I *think* the Yanks-Sox game is on tonight here in Canadia, so maybe I'll actually tune in to watch the Vernon Wells Train Wreck.

Delayed. Looks like NY is dealing with what I dealt with last night, isolated cells passing through. The Hens did play through it, though it looked grim a couple of times.

Today's working out to be a great sports day ... USA v Germany, England v Brazil and USA (women) v Canada were all entertaining matches, and Yankees v Boston will kill enough time that I won't be climbing the walls waiting for a torrent of this week's Game of Thrones episode to become ... "available".

On the downside, my housemate, Lord Greystoke, managed to scrape along the entire driver's side of my new (as in 2-week old) car pulling out of the driveway this afternoon ...

ESPN announcer: "...a delay situation."

AKA, a "delay," or even a "rain delay."

My God, what has happened to the English language?

6 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 2, 2013 7:07 pm

[5] George Carlin died. His bit on the language of airlines is classic.

At least they are actively announcing the delay situation.

Right now the situation is we either will or will not play the game.

But it's all good.

7 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 2, 2013 7:35 pm

It's raining up by me in the BX now but they say the game will start in 15 minutes...

8 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:00 pm

Jinx aleart:

Hiroki is ON tonight, boy.

9 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:09 pm

Teix hitting like Tesh.

*John* Tesh, that is ...

10 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:10 pm

[5] The English language? It's out with a knee so probably can't medal..

5 mins in and already sick of Kruk & Hershiser.

11 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:16 pm

[10] Frankly, I was sick of Kruk and Hershiser 5 minutes *before* I started watching them ...

12 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:20 pm

Jesus, "went to hospital"?!?!?!? What did the English language ever do to you, ESPN???

13 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:24 pm

Kruk/Hershiser: "The way Vernon Wells went after that ball, it looks like he got a much better read on it than I did...it sure looked to me like it might drop fair."

Uh-huh, that's one explanation for Wells' lumbering effort in LF.

14 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:25 pm

[12] To be fair, in the UK they don't use 'The' for hospital so 'went to hospital' would be correct..perhaps ESPN has implemented a program to use British English?

15 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:28 pm

[13] Yeah, Wells has has some dubious moments in LF of late.

16 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:29 pm

I absolutely luvvvvv that Vernon Wells deal.

17 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:32 pm

[14] I like the way the British say, "I'm moving house" instead of "I'm moving."

However, how in the hell can a pro athlete get dehydrated? Hydration is a basic element of getting ready to play. They're constantly drinking something in the dugout.

Sounds fishy to me, unless he's a boozer.

18 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:35 pm

[17] Stewart has found many ways to amaze and astound this season. Perhaps this is just another arrow in his quiver.

19 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:35 pm

[17] Boat, I was thinking that too..it's not like they're playing day games in Arlington in July right now.

Kruk's an awful announcer but good job with his cancer awareness work.

20 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:37 pm

No Orel, everyone does not get "the big C" somewhere in their [sic] family.

21 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:38 pm

[17] Maybe the Yanks are trying to work some DL jujitsu to avoid deciding on Overbay? Then again, that would mean going with one catcher, which I doubt the Yankees have the balls to do.

22 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:39 pm

[19] And not two days in a row. That's almost impossible unless he went home and ate a bag of salt, and drank a 5th of vodka last night.

23 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:45 pm

i finally get to watch a yankees game - in new york, no less - and i'm stuck with e.s.freaking.p.n.

horseshit.

GO HIRO!!! GO YANKS!!!

24 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:47 pm

holy crap, is napoli ugly as fuck!

wow. boston definitely has a monopoly on the scuzziest ballplayers in the game.

25 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:52 pm

damn.

lucky catch.

26 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:55 pm

fuck this shift.

27 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 2, 2013 8:59 pm

Got to say I do enjoy watching Dusty McVittles swing.

28 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:04 pm

Can the Yankees ever get Skippy out? This is worrisome.
And, Miami Sweeps the Mets. Who dosed the Yankees last week?

29 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:05 pm

Fucking Ball Saxbury.

30 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:06 pm

Well, that run probably seals the deal tonight.

31 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:07 pm

jesus fucking h. christ.

i hate BOTH of those disgusting looking fuckers.

great. now we're losing and couldn't even turn two.

and laptop leads the majors in era (and pilfering).

32 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:08 pm

[27] oh man, i fucking HATE his swing. it's as ugly as he is. and i can't stand Fat Liar's violent swing...or his highly annoying spit and clap act.

33 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:09 pm

See? See what you're doing Yankees???

You're making Nostra angry!

Stop that!

34 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:10 pm

Tell 'em, Cult!!!

35 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:10 pm

[32]

Ortiz > shift
Teix < shift

36 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:11 pm

very true, MP.

37 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:12 pm

What?

74!!! pitches?

To get through 4???

Sigh.

38 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:12 pm

i'd really like a score truck homecoming...

39 randym77   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:12 pm

[19] I was wondering about that. It did get suddenly hot in the northeastern U.S. I was in Scranton checking out the RailRiders, and I swear it went from 40 degrees with actual sleet to 95 degrees and sweltering overnight.

But I'd expect a pro athlete to be able to deal with that.

40 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:15 pm

[37] It's amazing...a 1-0 game featuring two of the best starters in the league, and the pace is still torturously slow.

41 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:16 pm

ooh. tough pitch to take, 0-2.

Damn it, Tex.

42 randym77   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:17 pm

I see Ramiro Pena hit another home run today, and seems to be working his way into the starting lineup, perhaps as Chipper Jones' replacement.

Jeez. Pena's not really a .875 OPS player, is he?

43 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:18 pm

how the fuck do you take that pitch, 0-2?!

jesus fuck.

44 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:18 pm

[42] he - and his soul patch - have been kicking ass in my adopted city.

45 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:20 pm

The only question now, should I stay up late and try to catch one more Vernon Wells AB, or turn in once I finish this beer?

46 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:20 pm

A one run deficit seems like five for this Yankee team.

47 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:22 pm

fucking *horseshit*!!!

: /

48 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:23 pm

[46] so, now we're down by 10.

49 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:23 pm

Jose Iglesias?

Seriously???

50 randym77   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:23 pm

Now a two run deficit. :-P

51 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:23 pm

[45] whachya drinkin?

52 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:25 pm

[51] DAB...Dortmunder Actien Brauerei Bier. Picked up two 500 ml cans today. Just wasted one on this game.

53 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:27 pm

Nice shot of the bored asshole wearing a Canada knit cap while sitting in $1000 seats.

54 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:28 pm

[52] mmm, sounds good!

55 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:28 pm

[53] well, at least there was a Mariano patch on the Canada "skully"...

56 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:29 pm

[52][53] The Bier is contributing to the spicy commentary, keep it going!

Had Erdinger Dunkleweiss last night...Ahh....

57 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:29 pm

i can't stand that little ugly midget fucker

58 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:30 pm

last night, i imbibed a sixer of Full Sail Pale Ale.

59 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:31 pm

[54] Not bad. After a year in Germany (wow, is that already a year ago?), I need my periodic deutsches Bier fix.

60 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:32 pm

c'mon Pyouk!

[man, that feels weird...]

61 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:34 pm

these scumbags are gross looking!

62 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:34 pm

The one bright spot is that the Yankees are really working the count.

63 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:36 pm

Buchholz looks like a different guy this year. Confident and totally in command. You know, like Phil Hughes!

64 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:41 pm

Man, Hiroki deserves better. What are they giving him like 0.5 runs a game?

65 thelarmis   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:41 pm

fuck you, fat liar.

and a giant huge FUCK YOU to anybody at the stadium cheering that.

this game sucks ass.

66 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:41 pm

Rain. Just what this game needed.

Also, a BOMB from Ortiz, also what this game needed.

This team needs an enema ...

67 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:41 pm

With that, I'm outta here. Sorry Vernon, I'll have to read about the rest of your night in the box score.

68 monkeypants   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:42 pm

[66] This team needs an enema ...

No, they need a few players who can hit. You know, more like Nick Swisher and less like Ichiro and Vernon Wells.

69 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 2, 2013 9:48 pm

Wow, the "pulling out the tarp" soundtrack is Bruce's "Cover Me." Cool.

70 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 2, 2013 10:05 pm

[68] Agreed, but Swisher is not a good example, IMHO.

He has 3 more hits than Ichiro, although a ton more walks. He has 3 less homers and 4 less RBI than Wells. Unless his 26 walks count as "hitting." Of course his OBP and OPS are a lot better than Ichiro's, but just a bit better than Wells'.

I wonder how he would have done in our line-up this year. I imagine hose extra walks would just be more DPs or stranded runners on this team.
