"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

How About Another?

Dave Phelps got his ass kicked last time out against the Mets. Here’s hoping he returns to his reliable good form tonight.

1. Suzuki CF
2. Nix SS
3. Teixeira 1B
4. Cano DH
5. Wells LF
6. Youkilis 3B
7. Adams 2B
8. Overbay RF
9. Stewart C

Never mind the setbacks:

Let’s Go Yank-ees!

Hey, David Phelps, that did not suck.

2 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 6:12 pm

Two outs, already a better game than his last start.

3 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2013 6:39 pm

Attaboy, Phelpsy.

4 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 6:42 pm

Dang, Swish.

This Overbay-RF thing has opened up a whole new range of Chessmaster possibilities!

Just saw this on Twitter from Mark Feinsand:

BREAKING: MLB will seek to suspend A-Rod, Ryan Braun and about 20 players connected to Miami clinic. Founder Tony Bosch agreed to cooperate.

Glad Jorge is back.

8 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 7:05 pm

[6] Wowsers. Apparently seeking 100 games for Alex & Ryan.

9 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2013 7:07 pm

Ooh, a Teix message. Yes!

10 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 7:20 pm

Cleveland announcers called the strike em out throw em out dp one the pitch before.

11 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 4, 2013 7:21 pm

I hope this doesn't go anywhere. It would break my heart (from the ESPN story):

Also sure to be on MLB's list of questions is whether the Yankees' Robinson Cano, who could sign a lucrative free agent contract after this season, had any connection to Bosch or the clinic. The spokeswoman for Cano's foundation, Sonia Cruz, was listed in Biogenesis documents, as ESPN reported, and MLB officials have investigated whether she might have been a conduit for Cano.

The recent comments about A-Rod from Hal & Brian make sense now.

13 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 7:42 pm

Come on David.

14 The Mick536   ~  Jun 4, 2013 7:50 pm

So, will A-Rod return? No. No. No. No. All scum. Just horrible. This blog lacks heart on the subject. Please don't give me the innocent until proven guilty nonsense. The whole sport deserves attack, disrespect and rejection. To those of you who attend, your share responsibilty. For those of us who watch, read and blog, shame on us. All bullshit.

[11] Let's hope Cano's foundation publicist was only looking for donations to the foundation from a sports affiliated vendor. Vendor sounds funny in this case, but could be true?

[14] That's right TheMick. Not like the stand-up guys in your heyday! Who never brawled, drank, raped, took greenies, racially abused minorities or cheated on the field! Wish we could go back to those white-bread clean 1950s!

17 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 7:59 pm

[14] You obviously have not read any of my entries on the subject for the last four years. I do get grief sometimes, but the forum has discussed all aspects.

At this point i look at Arod as a broken man, but how much sympathy can we really have for someone with virtually unlimited wealth. His story is worth mining for a book. I blame the Stein Jrs. who needed to make an "ownership statement" early on their watch with that contract. Arod "should" be too broken down to return, quietly settle with the Yankees and the insurance company and keep out of view. He should come back next year for his day at the park.

18 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:01 pm

[15] I like it. We need Robbie to be untainted.

BTW, regarding this "list," who keeps hand-written ledgers anymore? Very strange way for a business to keep records.

19 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:04 pm

Go Irish!

20 Simone   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:20 pm

I am surprised by the news of the possible suspensions although it could not happen to a group of more deserving cheats. Unfortunately, Alex suspended for a 100 games would kill the Yankees. I see the union fighting this tooth and nail.

Steinbrenner is ridiculous. No one told him to sign Alex to that stupidly enormous contract when there were no other bidders. Alex is his big ole booby prize.

21 Dimelo   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:20 pm

[14] That's quite the sanctimonious bs. Let me guess what you'll write next: what about the kids?

22 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:28 pm

Atta boy, Joba.

23 Dimelo   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:29 pm

FU JOBA!!!

24 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:29 pm

Oh Joba. How can one so talented be so thick headed.

25 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:31 pm

Joba, dammit.

26 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:34 pm

I predict Joba won't be back next year. Shocker, I know.

27 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:35 pm

Joba kinda put a stink on the game after a one hit performance by Phelps. I hope the team can preserve his win.

28 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:36 pm

[26] Trade him to the Royals.

29 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:38 pm

[28] What do they have? A bucket of used balls?

30 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:38 pm

Joba The Unshushable

31 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:44 pm

Ichiro might be declining from the ultimate slap hitter, but he will do something this year that will save a game that the season pivots on. I still like him on this team.

32 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:47 pm

Wow! Nice AB from Tex!

33 Evil Empire   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:47 pm

"Unfortunately, Alex suspended for a 100 games would kill the Yankees"

How is that true? Have you looked at his numbers from last year? He sucked in the playoffs. He's been hurt this year.
What's killing the Yankees is having to pay him over $25 million for 16 homeruns.

I'm often chastised for wishing the Yanks would find a way to get rid of him but I still feek that way. I didn't like him getting 10 years at 32 and I still don't.

Yeah I know I don't have a clue. I'm naïve. The Yanks can't unload this turd under any circumstances. I know its pointless to even discuss it. But dammit there has to be something to do to get rid of this albatross.

34 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:50 pm

Time to do some damage Robbie.

35 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:51 pm

Yup.

36 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:51 pm

Crap.

37 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:51 pm

Could Robinson be preoccupied tonight?

38 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:52 pm

[26] I hope he won't be back tomorrow.

39 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:53 pm

[31] No matter what the statistics say (many of you guys will hate this), I like him for irrational, sentimental reasons.

1. He's Japanese
2. He's cool
3. I love to watch him play
4. He turned my elderly Japanese father-in-law, who lives next door, into a Yankee fan, and that gives us something to share.

Don't hold it against me.

40 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:54 pm

That inning really bites. A worst possible outcome.

41 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:54 pm

Bollocks!

42 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:57 pm

This could set up as a vindication moment for Swish. Hope not.

43 Capital Yank   ~  Jun 4, 2013 8:58 pm

[14] I couldn't agree more. For shame all to of us who partake in the enjoyment of these Yanks! Even those who claim to be catching whatever games they can to once more see the Great Mariano, have you so quickly forgotten his unforgivable shush of the inimitable Joba? And don't even get me started on that other alleged core four, God-fearing, PED taking, truth telling, sumbitch Pettitte. Suspend them all!

44 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:02 pm

Phew.

45 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:02 pm

Thanks Nick.

46 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:02 pm

Swishalicious!

47 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:03 pm

John Sterling still talks about Joba like its 2007 and not every other year of his career. He's legitimately surprised when he fucks up

48 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:03 pm

Where the fuck is Cano?

49 Capital Yank   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:06 pm

The Hammer with another Houdini escape...I'll take it.

50 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:08 pm

[48] DH

51 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:09 pm

Speaking of how terrible Kay is, I've seen a bunch of games in recent weeks where that Youklis edge of the warning track fly would not even get a hint of excitement.

52 Chyll Will   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:10 pm

[50] PB&J

53 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:10 pm

[50] lol.. Thanks. And I've been watching the whole game. Oi!

54 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:11 pm

Looks like some chess is going on.

55 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:16 pm

Mo won't have to shush Joba tonight after he saves it. Joba should be VERY soft spoken.

56 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:21 pm

High cheese!

57 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:23 pm

All Rise. Holy fireworks.

58 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:25 pm

The Mo is our Mo. The Mo is one.

59 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:25 pm

[55] He walks the walk. Joba talks the talk.

60 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 4, 2013 9:29 pm

Could have been an ugly game after a beautiful day (the best this year) in NY. All's rosy now.

Good night.
