Absolute classic. Max Roach killin' it on the kit! I've played "St. Thomas" with many different Jazz combos.
1956, OJC.
Can't forget about the album he cut barely one month earlier - Tenor Madness. Personally, I prefer that record.
A little over a year later, he recorded Newk's Time, on Blue Note. Amazing album. The title is a baseball reference hinting at Sonny's resemblance to Dodgers' pitcher Don Newcombe.
Classic. I saw Sonny ten years ago, he looked old shuffling on stage and then just blew the whole place apart. People were screaming at the end of his first solo.
