This is big game for HIroki, man...

2 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 12:16 pm

I feel like today will see the return of HiroKi.

We win today and start a new roll!

3 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 12:45 pm

Well, maybe not.

4 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:05 pm

Ortiz needs to shut the fuck up.

5 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:22 pm

1-0 in the 4th?

Good!

80+ pitches in the 4th?

Bad.

6 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:33 pm

Way to go Mark. Nice hustle Alex!

7 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:34 pm

Reynolds wraps an rbi!

8 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:34 pm

Exactly, Ken, that's why he shouldn't have been bunting ...

9 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:47 pm

It's not so much how long Hiroki can go, it's who do you bring in.

10 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:52 pm

Man these are weird hits.

11 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:54 pm

[9] [10] What happened?
I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I'm watching football and following on Gameday. It says Vernon and Ichiro both singled on pop flies to shortstop.

12 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:57 pm

[11] A couple of Bermuda Triangle pop ups to shallow LF, sandwiched around a pop up to short that was just out of reach. Hiroki is already over 100 pitches through the 5th.

13 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:57 pm

Robinson!

14 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:58 pm

Robbie FUCKING Cano, dontcha know?!?!?!?

15 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:59 pm

[12] Thanks.

16 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 1:59 pm

Robbie with a 2 rbi double.

17 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:04 pm

Well, it's going to take some non-horrible relief pitching to win this game.

18 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:19 pm

Yup, now the nail biting begins ...

19 el3men2lokot   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:24 pm

Haha why r u all acting like the Sox aren't going to come back and embarrass u all at home AGAIN! lol...pray Mike Napoli doesn't get in the game..or Victorino.

20 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:29 pm

Hmmm, me no like

21 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:31 pm

Way this series has gone, Dusty gets a hit here.

22 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:31 pm

Phew!

23 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:31 pm

Ha Ha! Glad I was wrong. But tell me you didn't just hold your breath on that ground ball to Nunie.

24 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:32 pm

Good job, Shawn. Or, non-horrible job.

25 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:32 pm

[23] Yeah, a little.

26 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:39 pm

I can't see giving Vern the green light on 3-0.

27 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:45 pm

Yikes.

2 inning Mo time?

I'm not so sure about this ...

28 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:47 pm

Prove me wrong, Mo!

29 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:53 pm

What the hell, Blue

30 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:54 pm

Well, that was the easy one. Although it was the tough part of the line-up, so maybe not.

31 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 2:55 pm

Well, that took 20 pitches, not sure if Mo has another 20 in him at this point ...

32 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:05 pm

Shit!

33 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:06 pm

Well, that didn't take long ...

34 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:08 pm

Shit, I missed it. Middlebrooks?

35 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:08 pm

[34] Yup.

36 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:10 pm

If ifs and buts were chocolate and nuts the world would be a candy store.

37 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:11 pm

Well we'd better win it now, because we've got shit for a chance if it goes extras ...

38 el3men2lokot   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:13 pm

Wat did I tell u....u all ain't winning this its the Bronx massacre

39 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:14 pm

Pettitte if it goes extras?

40 mhoward120   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:14 pm

Why no Joba for the 10th?

41 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:17 pm

Ichi!

Now steal

42 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:20 pm

[40] THAT'S NOT FUNNY.

43 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:20 pm

See?

44 mhoward120   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:22 pm

(42). Oh right - forgot he's the closer the next 2 games

45 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:22 pm

[44] Please, you must not use the number 42 when making remarks like that.

It's sacrilege.

46 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:23 pm

lol....

47 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:23 pm

How about that!

48 mhoward120   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:24 pm

(44). My reverse psychology worked at least. All apologies to Mo, who will easily be SI's Sportsman of the Year.

49 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:24 pm

Unbelievable!

I'll take it.

I'll take it!

50 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:25 pm

Not. Dead. Yet. Bitches!

51 mhoward120   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:27 pm

(50). Yeah, Pinkman!

52 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:28 pm

Just a little luck! Yippie!

53 Jon DeRosa   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:29 pm

I think we may have just narrowly averted the worst regular season weekend in Yankee history (just games wise, not including Thurman).

4 game sweep? 2 blown Mo saves? Three blown leads? To the Sox? Likely ending any chance of the playoffs? Yeah, I think that would have been the worst ever, and I don't think it would have been close.

54 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:32 pm

[53] I believe you.
I am very bad at remembering things like that, because I tend to block them out.

Hey, did you hear -- John Sterling predicted the walk-off WP! Guy's good.

55 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:40 pm

[53] You are probably right. I can't remember anything like this since (gulp) 1964. The lost years were just numb. The win today continues the season.

56 Chyll Will   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:40 pm

Love how someone farted on the thread and everyone's trying not to notice...

57 Chyll Will   ~  Sep 8, 2013 3:48 pm

[54] no, he's a hypocrite, a walking-talking contradiction. Apparently you CAN predict baseball. What a maroon! On a similar note, I wonder if he and Foghorn Leghorn are related.

58 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 4:40 pm

[57] No, I was just joking. Ha!
[56] Right, that's the difference between us and RSN. Seriously.

59 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2013 4:41 pm

Hm, he really does sound like Foghorn Leghorn.
Have you mentioned that before? It suddenly sounds familiar.

60 Chyll Will   ~  Sep 8, 2013 6:32 pm

Maybe I did a season or two ago. Somebody else, maybe. Ken would know. But it's familiar because it's so true. His mannerisms, especially with Suzyn, are the same. The only thing missing is the stop-and-start-over speech pattern. How annoying would he be if he spoke like Das Efx or Snoop Lion (née Dogg)....
