It’s been getting late early for the Yanks for a long time now (g’head and check out the preliminary 2014 schedule if you’d like). They need to win almost every game in order to make the playoffs.

It’s Nova and you better you better you bet.

Brett Gardner CF
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Robinson Cano 2B
Alfonso Soriano LF
Curtis Granderson DH
Mark Reynolds 1B
Ichiro Suzuki RF
Eduardo Nunez SS

Have no fear:

we'll be more than fine.

2 thelarmis   ~  Sep 10, 2013 4:00 pm

OK, i'll play along.

[0] i saw the schedule earlier today. was hoping the Yanks would visit the ATL next season - this time on a weekend, for a change - but no dice.

[2] September callups... itizz what itizz.

5 thelarmis   ~  Sep 10, 2013 5:12 pm

[4] yeah, but these names haven't been bandied around at all. i recognize a ton of the names on the farm, but not these...

anyway, i'm off to teach.

GO NOVA! GO YANKS!!!

6 monkeypants   ~  Sep 10, 2013 5:38 pm

[2][4] Is he a really September call-up? He pitched in AAA before opting out of his contract a few weeks ago, floated around unsigned, and now the Yankees have re-signed him. To make room, Hafner was moved to the 60-day DL (surprise!).

7 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 6:11 pm

How about a repeat performance, Alex.

8 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 6:13 pm

Boooooo! Boo, A-Rod!

9 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 6:19 pm

Don’t even hear a murmur of a prayer
It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there

10 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 6:19 pm

Well that stunk

11 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 6:26 pm

Okay, well, we're winning the tie-breakers. (Hits, pitch count.)

12 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 6:49 pm

Good job, Alex.

13 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 6:49 pm

Yay, A-Rod!

14 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 6:50 pm

I love how Michael and Kenny have become connoisseurs of A-Rod Booing. "I don't think it's as vociferous here as it is in Boston..."

15 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 6:59 pm

Three innings, 30 pitches.
Knock on wood.

16 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:08 pm

Nunez stinks.

17 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:18 pm

Nuñez rocks!

18 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:20 pm

Oh, cripes.

NO PLAYS!

19 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:21 pm

Clearly the soil born pathogen was A-Rod's fault.

20 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:26 pm

I think it's "soil-borne". Carried, rather than birthed.

Booo! Boo, soil-borne pathogen!

21 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:30 pm

Ivan's first test now.

22 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:31 pm

Nune6 Stinks.

23 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:31 pm

Fail.

24 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:32 pm

[20] Thanks

25 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:33 pm

This inning is not going to end well.

26 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:34 pm

WTF IS GOING ON!?!?!?!?!?

27 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:34 pm

Boo A-Rod.

28 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:36 pm

[26] Sum booshit.

29 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:37 pm

[28] Boo got that straight.

30 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:39 pm

Quit hitting home runs, Chris. I want Miggy to go back to back.

31 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:44 pm

Ayyyyyyyyy!

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:48 pm

[30] Back to back. Wrong dudes but we'll take it.

33 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:48 pm

Day-um

34 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 7:49 pm

Whoops. Just realized Curtis was in between the two homers. D'oh!

35 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:10 pm

[34] Grandersandwich.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist that our next home run come with men on base.

36 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:19 pm

C'mon, Robbie. Time for your first hit.

37 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:21 pm

I predict Gausman is about to lose the strike zone.

38 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:22 pm

Tied!

39 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:22 pm

Tied game is tied at 4 says Kay. Whoo hoo!

40 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:22 pm

Jeez, that play at the plate was close. Much closer than I thought when I saw it skipping up the middle.

41 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:23 pm

Oh my god.
He's incredible.

42 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:23 pm

Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!! FONZIE!!!!!

43 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:24 pm

[35] Sori was listening.

44 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:25 pm

Every time I think I'm out they pull me back in.

45 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:28 pm

Tack 'em on, boys!

46 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:29 pm

Atta boy, Kid! Bucky Baseball!

47 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:30 pm

Machado doesn't do everything well, I guess.

48 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:36 pm

Well that was pretty pathetic.

49 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:43 pm

No two inning Mo!

50 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:44 pm

Gift K.

51 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:46 pm

Jeez

52 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:46 pm

Oh lord.
Well, J. R. gets to play!

53 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:47 pm

[50] It was. But on the other hand, it was just about the perfect pitch to get Adam Jones. The swing was predictable.

Man, when I saw him play his rookie year (might have been his second year), I thought he was going to be Ken Griffey Junior Junior.

54 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:50 pm

WP is generous

55 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:50 pm

I wish Girardi was back there instead.

56 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:51 pm

For fuck's sake. Way to whiff the tag.

57 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:52 pm

Yeah, missed the tag.
Come on Shawn, fer crisake.

Attaboy. Don't need that run anyway.

58 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:53 pm

So basically it's SWB vs. Baltimore.

59 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:53 pm

The binder!

60 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:53 pm

Mo time!

61 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:53 pm

Ooooh. I dunno. I wouldn't go to Mo here, honestly. If for no other reason than that it means he can't pitch tomorrow.

62 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 8:58 pm

Murphy picks up a put-out.

63 monkeypants   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:00 pm

[61] Yeah, normally I like the idea of using relievers for more than one inning and not forcing them into fixed roles like "closer." In this case I would probably have gambled that the the BP could hold a two or three run lead for two innings and save Mo if possible for a tighter spot tomorrow. We'll see how it plays out.

64 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:03 pm

Not sweeping the leg when we had the chance has hurt us (and could cost us).

65 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:04 pm

[63] One more out for Kelley probably makes the difference between No Mo tomorrow and Mo tomorrow.

Well, I shouldn't say 'probably'. Could well make the difference.

Or put it this way: two out and nobody on with a two run lead in the eighth, that is not exactly a high leverage situation.

66 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:04 pm

Meanwhile, Dos a Cero! Pack your bags boys, it's Brazil 2014!!!

67 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:08 pm

3 for sori?

68 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:08 pm

I didn't realize Showalter was of the Girardi school of "Bring in the lefty to walk a lefty" managing.

69 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:09 pm

Alex went out grabbing his hammy?

Sigh.

This year won't quit ...

70 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:11 pm

[69] And Romine left as well. Honestly, I expect lots of sleep in October.

71 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:12 pm

[67] Sorry.
[69] Not really. It's a little mysterious. He went out after sliding home, but no obvious grab.

72 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:13 pm

[70] But that was probably precautionary -- a little dizzy after taking a pop in the mask.
The one that worries me is Nova...

73 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:13 pm

Let's go mo!

74 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:15 pm

[72] Instead of everyone goes for ice cream, it's everyone goes on the DL.

75 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:17 pm

[74] Joe's taking everyone out for Advil!

76 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:18 pm

Oh shut-up, Brian Roberts. You got lucky on one call, don't get all uppity.

77 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:18 pm

One more

78 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:19 pm

[75] LOL!

79 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:19 pm

Thanks be to Mo.

80 rbj   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:19 pm

Ah, Mo!

81 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:19 pm

All haul no!

82 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:20 pm

Well that one was easy. : ) All Rise. Praise be to Mo.

83 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:20 pm

[72] Wait, what happened with Nova?

[71] I thought it was pretty clear on the replay that YES showed last inning while talking about it. Alex grabbed the back of his left leg right above his left knee immediately after sliding through the plate. Hopefully, it's just a coincidence, but who knows.

And ... exhale.

Mo es bueno!

84 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:22 pm

[83] Well, he left after throwing 79 pitches. Makes me worried.

85 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:26 pm

Way to go, Red Sox!
And KC, if it holds up.

86 RIYank   ~  Sep 10, 2013 9:45 pm

Yeah, A-Rod hammy tightened up rounding third.
Nova's arm doesn't feel too good, right above the elbow. Hurt the whole game in fact. He said he's been pitching with this problem for a while.
Yikes.

Austin Romine got dizzy and nauseous.

So, that's not such great news.
