Exit Light

SSv2_1_Satriani

Andy Pettitte’s final regular season start at Yankee Stadium comes on Marian Rivera Appreciation Day. Nobody does self-congratulatory schmaltz like the Yankees. But still, for one afternoon, I’ll play along since it’s for a good cause–giving thanks to a peerless career.

It’s gorgeous in the Bronx. Blue sky, no clouds, autumn chill in the air.

Ichiro Suzuki RF
Alex Rodriguez DH
Robinson Cano 2B
Alfonso Soriano LF
Curtis Granderson CF
Eduardo Nunez 3B
Mark Reynolds 1B
Brendan Ryan SS
Chris Stewart C

Never mind the preamble, enjoy the festivities and:

Let’s Go Yank-ees!

The opposing pitcher is missing a couple of "t's" and an "e" in his surname.

The Greatest Of All Time is missing an "o" at the end of his name, in the above preview...

GO MO!!! GO ANDY!!! GO YANKS!!!

2 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 22, 2013 11:28 am

Go Mo!

3 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:08 pm

It's like a mini-Old TImer's Day.

4 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:10 pm

They're getting the band back together!

5 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:17 pm

My woman's sick, so we're at the doctor. Is the pregame ceremony being aired on tbs? I sure hope so...I'm dvr-ing it. If not, I hope there's full video online later...

6 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:20 pm

Metallica Live is bit over the top. lol... Whatever...

7 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:21 pm

God this is corny. But okay, fine...

8 mhoward120   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:24 pm

Which is gonna be higher - the # of Yankee hits or the # of times Eli Manning gets sacked?

9 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:26 pm

Wow ... It's STILL going?

I just watched 20 minutes of the RM match ... This is a bit nuts.

10 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:43 pm

Bloated even by pompous Yankee standards.

11 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:47 pm

Can we have a game now

12 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:48 pm

Alright, that's all out of the way, let's win the damn game.

13 mhoward120   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:56 pm

6 sacks and counting

14 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 12:59 pm

David Pinto pointed out that in binary, Andy is going for win # 100000000.

15 edoubletrouble   ~  Sep 22, 2013 1:01 pm

Is anyone else feeling that Andy could pitch a perfect game through 8 innings today?

16 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 1:18 pm

[15] Hm, and then Mo? Now that would be something.

17 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 1:34 pm

Reynolds!

18 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 1:34 pm

Kablammo!

19 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 1:35 pm

Let's get base runners for the next one though.

20 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 1:56 pm

Atta boy, Robbie. 3-0 single

21 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:02 pm

[20] Yeah but then no homer.

Come on! Base runner, then homer! How hard can it be?

22 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:11 pm

[21] Patience, RIY, patience.

23 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:11 pm

Imperfect.
Past perfect.

24 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:17 pm

[23] This way Mo can enter for the save. Much easier to bring someone (or five) in in a no hitter than a perfecto.

25 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:22 pm

Shit!

26 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:23 pm

Fucking Bollocks!

27 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:32 pm

I just thought about not seeing Robbie in Pinstripes after today. I might need a drink.

28 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:34 pm

Now a home run please.

29 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:36 pm

Curtis is struggling.

30 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:44 pm

Andrew. Eugene. Pettitte.

Golden God

31 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:52 pm

Double steal!!!

32 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:52 pm

Runs, please!

33 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:57 pm

C'mon, Vern!!!

34 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:58 pm

Nice.

Base hit. Thank you, please!

35 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:58 pm

It always comes down to Vernon.

36 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:58 pm

I'll be satisfied with a single. Even a sac fly.

37 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:59 pm

Yeah, that was more likely. Fuck.

38 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:59 pm

I actually called the whiff on the curve. My bad.

39 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 2:59 pm

Boo, Vern.

40 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:02 pm

Mo damn it!

41 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:02 pm

Those were 2 useless at bats. Shite!

42 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:02 pm

What a bunch of fuckin bollocks.

43 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:05 pm

44 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:05 pm

Andy.

45 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:06 pm

Where's weeping?!

46 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:06 pm

Thank you Andy!

47 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:09 pm

C'mon, Hamma. Nail 'em all for Andy!

48 Start Spreading the News   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:09 pm

Really hoped that Andy would have gotten the win today. He has never had a losing record in his career. This would be a terrible way for that to change.

49 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:10 pm

Ugh.

50 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:11 pm

Wrong kind of hammered.

51 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:11 pm

Fuckitty.

52 mhoward120   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:11 pm

Goodbye Andy. Goodbye Mo. Goodbye 2013

53 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:12 pm

Robertson hasn't been quite right recently.

Well, here comes Mo, sure wish it was for a save.

54 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:15 pm

Good call by Girardi, though.

55 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:16 pm

Nice catch, Curtis!

2-run minimum.

56 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:17 pm

Let's hope Mo gets the W and Andy's record stays in tact. I imagine he'll get another shot against Houston next week...

57 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:19 pm

There's a start.

58 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:20 pm

Promising start.

59 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:20 pm

Good start

60 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:20 pm

The Z-man is back!

61 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:20 pm

Smart. Another good move by Girardi.

62 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:20 pm

Yup, you have to PR for the Centaur here.

63 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:20 pm

Let's go Robbie!!!

64 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:23 pm

Robbie!

65 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:23 pm

RIPPER!!!!!

66 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:24 pm

Whoo-hoo, Robbie! Now don't fuck it up!

67 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:24 pm

C'mon, Sori!!!

68 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:24 pm

Bang.
I was just thinking, "Yeah, try to sneak one of those curves past Rob inside again."

Really.

69 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:25 pm

GET. THIS. RUN. IN.

70 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:26 pm

Shit.

71 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:26 pm

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

72 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:27 pm

Grrrrr.

73 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:27 pm

Noooooo!!!!!

Fucking brutal

74 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:27 pm

What a huge mistake by Almonte.

75 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:27 pm

UnFUCKINGbelievable.

76 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:27 pm

Awful, just fucking awful.

77 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:28 pm

Curtis, what the fuck are you looking at?

78 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:28 pm

"I don't think umpires realize what one pitch can do in a count..." Yeah, they probably do, Paulie.

79 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:28 pm

Awful

80 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:29 pm

This is the worst I've seen Curtis, I think. He just looks helpless.

81 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:30 pm

Mo fucking damn it!!!

82 RIYank   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:30 pm

Sigh.

The outlook isn't brilliant.

83 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:30 pm

Kind of sums up the season that inning. Drat.

84 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:30 pm

Holy Moly. Agonizing to the very end.

85 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:30 pm

Sigh.

86 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:31 pm

I hate that kid like he plays for the shit sox...

87 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:34 pm

After Panda's double, I figured we'd lose. Actually, it was when we didn't score the frame before.

But then I was feeling pretty good with those two hits...

Now, Ryan can't even field the ball. And Robbie was a little shaky getting up and now a bad throw. Keystone cops fail.

88 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:38 pm

OK, good.

Now fucking *win*!!!

89 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:39 pm

Nice.

90 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:40 pm

Bloop and a blast here fellas.

91 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:47 pm

What a kick to the nuts. Mo Speed Mo and Andy.

92 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:47 pm

That's the ballgame.

93 thelarmis   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:48 pm

Fuck and Shit

94 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:52 pm

Well, at least you picked the right headline, Alex.

Exit light, indeed ...

95 rbj   ~  Sep 22, 2013 3:55 pm

[8] Nine hits to seven sacks. NY Giants are Mo damn awful this year.

96 edoubletrouble   ~  Sep 23, 2013 12:47 am

What I enjoy about baseball holds true in backgammon as well. At any and every moment fortune can shift. That bottom of the 8th inning - men on 2nd and 3rd - 1 out - just get in one run - two would be great - it could actually be the beginning of their rise toward another go at the post-season! This is the end and yet could be the beginning of a new era! It could be with every roll waiting in the cup - every ball in the pitcher's mitt. Andy was great again - hard to see him get upset when he saw Joe comin ' to get him - he woulda gotten out of it without letting that man on second get home! He knows it and I know it too. I don't think Joe G is Joe T and that may be the difference between now and 1995. I moved to New York in the Fall of 1994. I don't know what the City will feel like without Andy or Mo on the mound. I guess it's got to suck a little bit more before it gets better again. Great to see Bern, Paulie O and Jorge on the field. Those were the days, huh? For now ... I'm just glad Bronx Banter is still here. Peeeeeeeeeeace. Thanks to Al and the gang.
