Rainy Monday in New York but today gives four playoff games. A’s and the Tigers up first. Then Pirates, Cards. Tonight gives the Rays trying to extend their season and later, the Dodgers try to move on to the NLCS.

Have at it, folks.

Let’s Go Base-ball.

Nice start for the A's...Rooting for our man Ken, here!

2 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 1:47 pm

...and a nice comeback for the kittens.

i'm rooting for the Ken's, too! : )

3 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2013 1:53 pm

Listening to it on the radio, Michael Kay is doing the play by play.

4 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 1:57 pm

[3] i'm sorry. ; )

and the Ken Arneson's retake the lead!

5 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2013 3:30 pm

Man, tense one in Pittsburgh too.

6 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2013 3:34 pm

Dag, the Cards go ahead on a 2 run dinger.

7 Dimelo   ~  Oct 7, 2013 3:34 pm

Man Grant Balfour (Ball Four!) is a red ass.

8 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:04 pm

Just got home. Watched the Pirates go weakly in the 7th only to see a zero under the hit column before commercial. #$%# that noise!

9 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:05 pm

C'mon Pirates don't get no hit, c'mon!

10 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:15 pm

Kaboom! There's that.

11 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:16 pm

Russell!

12 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:20 pm

Jose Tabata.

Remember?

13 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:24 pm

When you steal you need to make to the base. Terrible slide.

14 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:25 pm

Plays.

Even in the NL, they suck.

15 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:34 pm

Damn, Pedro. Fine play.

16 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:41 pm

In case anyone is wondering: no, Trevor Rosenthal is not a Jew.

17 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:45 pm

3-0 Green Light!

18 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2013 4:46 pm

Fucking Bollocks! Oh well. It the Pirates need to rely on AJ Burnett in game 5 they are truly fucked.

19 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 7:05 pm

[16] Huh. So, no on Rosenthal and Max Scherzer, but yes on Danny Valencia and Jason Marquis...

20 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2013 7:12 pm

Geez the Rays are gagging.

21 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2013 7:19 pm

[16] And this year Thanksgiving falls on the second night of Hannuka. Won't happen again for 79,000 years. My sister usually hosts turkey day dinner (with a 5 pm dinner time.) As her family is Jewish (she converted) I wonder what they'll do. Potato latkes (yum) instead of mashed?

22 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 7:28 pm

[21] My paternal grandmother refused to celebrate Thanksgiving when my dad was a kid. It drove my dad crazy. One November he asked her why, and she said it was because Thanksgiving is a goyishe holiday. So he told her (as my dad tells the story -- probably largely fictitious), "It's not a goyishe holiday, it's an American holiday. And she gave in. But, no turkey. Goose.

Anyway, latkes, yeah!

23 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2013 7:31 pm

Tied up!

24 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 7:31 pm

Hey, Evan Longoria picks the Rays up off the mat!

25 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2013 7:38 pm

[22] My BiL has a similar attitude towards Christmas. Hates it, but really it's a commercial holiday and a minor one in the history of Christianity.

Nothing wrong with goose, we have turkey & salmon.

I hate having to root for the Rays.

26 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 7:42 pm

[25] I like Christmas, for kids, but I think it's hard on adults.

I'm pretty pleased it's Buchholz who's blowing it. Although, hm, it would have been maybe even better if it were Lackey. Tough call. I definitely dislike Lackey more, but RSN isn't too fond of him either. Hm. Anyway, I'm enjoying this game.

27 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 7:45 pm

Pulling Cobb.
Yanking Cobb.

Heh.

28 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 7, 2013 7:47 pm

[25] Christmas here is..well, 'interesting'. Less than zero Christian theological content, obviously.

[27] Potty mouth!

29 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:02 pm

[26] Yeah, Christmas is losing its glamour for me as I get older, single with no kids. Though the dogs like getting presents -- just as long as they don't leave me any.

30 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:09 pm

Good, no base runners for Papi...

31 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:15 pm

The Rays are now (man on, one out, bottom of the seventh) 3:2 favorites.

32 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:23 pm

Now just 6:5.

33 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:27 pm

Damn. All even now.

34 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:28 pm

Will Myers: sometimes expereience DOES mean something. He's stinkin' up the joint this series.

35 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:37 pm

Oooooh. No Papi for extra innings. I can practically see Joe M. smiling from here.

"N-b6? Really, Mr. Farrell? Interesting. Well, we shall see..."

36 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:38 pm

"Check. Your move, Mr. Maddon..."

37 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:44 pm

BSOX TRAY
34. P - 2B. Jake x Nap.
35. Nava - e8=Gomes Jake bb Gomes.

Your move, Mr. Farrell.

38 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:45 pm

Oh, damn, my control spaces got squished. (It's supposed to look like a chess game score.)

39 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:46 pm

Jake k Jarrod!!

Well played, Mr. Maddon.

40 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:49 pm

Yeah, that's how you pitch to Stephen Drew. Just smoke him. Don't screw around.

41 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 8:55 pm

Ahhhhhhh.

I'm glad Farrell had a Lefty Specialist on staff.

42 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:00 pm

Now that's what I call a play.

43 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:01 pm

fucking pathetic.

44 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:01 pm

Argh. Goddammit. A successful bunt by Joyce would have lowered the Rays' chances.

Bad move, Mr. Maddon, bad move.

45 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:04 pm

[43] Genius.

46 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:05 pm

fucking beautiful!

couldn't have happened to an uglier squad.

47 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:05 pm

Okay, now don't screw this up, you big old Molina...

48 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:05 pm

Or you big old Young.

49 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:06 pm

yeah!

50 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:06 pm

Hey hey hey!

51 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:07 pm

One more hit? Please? Sean?

52 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:07 pm

[49] Re-Run?

53 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:08 pm

[51] fred berry!

i liked dwayne the best. in fact, i think it was his character who did the "hey hey hey" bit. but i'm not positive...

54 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:10 pm

Well, I'll settle for the one run.

RxQ+, your move Mr. Farrell...

55 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:12 pm

Of course, if the Sox get a couple of base runners, they will bring to the plate their fearsome DH: Quintin Berry! (No relation to Fred.)

56 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:14 pm

don't walk the leadoff batter.

fuck!

57 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:16 pm

I miss Mo...

58 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:16 pm

And don't ever walk Will Middlebrooks. Cripes. Well, he's Fernando Rodney.

59 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:16 pm

[52] Of course, it was Dwayne who had that line. I'm old and forgetful!

(Fun side note: if you look at the famous episode of the What's Happening crew when they befriended the Doobie Brothers, so much to enjoy there. ReRun gets bullied into bootlegging their concert but of course gets caught. The You Tube comments are hysterical, one guy asks 'Wait, the Doobie Brothers were popular in Watts in the 70s?' Which gets the reply 'Yeah man, brothers in the ghetto LOVED the Doobies!')

OK, back to baseball.

60 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:17 pm

jesus fucking h. christ.

i hate rodney and i HATE the shit sox.

61 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:17 pm

Oh, lord.

Fernando Rodney.

62 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:18 pm

The Sox now have two of the fastest runners in baseball on base.

Fernando Rodney.

63 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:19 pm

Can you hear the drums Fernando?

64 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:21 pm

... P-f4.
Good sacrifice, Mr. Farrell.

65 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:21 pm

feh.

66 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:22 pm

My Little Productive Out.

67 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:22 pm

[62] noooo. stop!!!

that's the SECOND reference today of my touring with them...

68 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:22 pm

Happy that Rodney blew it. Pissed that the sox tied it. Mind meltdown.

69 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:23 pm

Well, the bright side is, a blown save for Fernando Rodney.

70 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:25 pm

Phew.

71 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:29 pm

No respect for Rodney. He acts like he did something by only allowing one.

And about the Doobies, after all; they're "takin it to the streets".

72 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:30 pm

Well that was good. Eat shit, boston.

73 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:30 pm

HOLY FUCK!!!!

that RULES!!!!

and, see, a Molina had to do with it! ; )

74 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:30 pm

Wow!!!!!!!!

75 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:31 pm

What a time for Uehara to throw a bad pitch. Do you know how good he's been? Just look at his numbers.

76 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:31 pm

Yay! Lobaton? His name should be for a psycho-tropic drug.

77 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:32 pm

visions of the shit backs' Kim there...

78 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:33 pm

[75] Ask your doctor if Lobaton is right for you.

79 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:34 pm

[76] Totally! Love that name.
[75] Amazing, ya know Suzyn, ya just can't...

80 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:34 pm

Uh, sorry, my numbering is screwed up because I have one of those utterly mysterious 'awaiting moderation' things. I really can't guess what's holding it up. Am I not allowed to use the word... I won't try.

81 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:35 pm

The Chief is the starting pitcher from the Bravos in an elimination game. Amazing...

82 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:35 pm

No, wait, huh, now my numbering is right. Oh, it went through. [41].

83 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:36 pm

Lobaton was endearing in the post game interview. Nice kid.

84 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:36 pm

So is it the last word in [41] that got it hung up???

85 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:37 pm

Staff.

86 RIYank   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:38 pm

Nope. Maybe the long sigh/moan?

Anyway, it's nice to have a good game, been a while. Later!

87 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:43 pm

[82] i can totally see why that was awaiting moderation.

atlanta threatening...

88 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:44 pm

[87] I don't get it..

Hunger Pains, must go for grub. thelarmis, hope you'll be Banterin' for a while!

89 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:45 pm

Dodgers doing just about all they can to give it away. Let's see if Kershaw can take the pressure.

90 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:47 pm

[88] Lefty specialist on your staff? Sounds like a change of pace from the norm?

91 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:47 pm

[88] braves just scored and have a runner on 3rd with 1 out...

as far as the moderation comment, i was just kiddin' : )

bantering...nah - i have waaay too much work to do and the new quarter at school begins tomorrow. i'll be outta here in a minute...

92 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:48 pm

tie game!

knotted at deuce.

93 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:49 pm

Now my last comment is awaiting moderation. Silly that the word staff is a word press controversy. Dodgers infield looks a little pathetic.

94 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:53 pm

Is word press edited with a 14 year old perspective. Let's see if this gets moderated-The pitcher rubbed down his balls before the game. Tee hee.

95 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2013 9:56 pm

Fab Freddy is like a bad penny. I hope he does well. But I hate McCann, sorry thelarmis.

96 thelarmis   ~  Oct 7, 2013 10:00 pm

[94] doesn't bother me at all! but you might be hating on your starting catcher next season. he's a free agent and he'd be better off in the DH league...

i do like freddy and freddie. fredi, not so much, but whatevs...

97 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2013 10:07 pm

Don't know what the real comment numbers are because evidently saying lefty combined with staff causes word press problems. I guess I could learn to like McCann, but a little dicky.

Do the Freddy!

98 MSM35   ~  Oct 7, 2013 10:47 pm

Can I say this before we all retire; Jets,Jets,Jets?

99 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 7, 2013 11:25 pm

[96] Very dicky, I'd say 'Pass'.

100 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 7, 2013 11:32 pm

McCann, 4 SOs tonight, I say pass too.

I wanted to say something about that (Jets) too, but was 'fraid to on our baseball blog.

Who would have thought that the best football team in NY is the...

Say what you will about Torre, but he would've had Mo in for a two-inning save. Meanwhile, Kimbrel had a nice warm up session in the bullpen. I would've loved to have seen how the kid handled it, but Gonzalez didn't risk it.

102 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 8, 2013 12:02 am

Congrats to the Dodgers, one more round, and Mattingly might just might get his WS wish.
