And Marcia Wallace died today too. Edna on The Simpsons, and the secretary Carol on the Bob Newhart Show.

[1] this has been a pretty rough weekend, huh...

Not for nothing, but I haven't really watched The Simpsons for several seasons, so I didn't know that Edna Krabappel and Ned Flanders had married. Now this will be two wives that Ned has lost; though ironically as opposed to Maude, the second is due to real life loss. I'm kind of curious how the creatives will handle this, knowing that they will retire her character from the show. When Doris Grau and Phil Hartman passed away, they just stopped writing their characters into the stories. But Edna is an important character dating back to the show's inception, and one tied to other major and supporting characters, so it'll be interesting to see what they do with this circumstance.

[2] Yeah, that'll be interesting. Glad they're retiring the character instead of looking for another actor. More respectful.

So who's going to be the third?

[3] With all due respect to Marcia Wallace, can we put her life and generational influence in the same triad as Lou Reed?

5 rbj   ~  Oct 27, 2013 7:14 pm

No, but she has been part of two iconic tv series. Which is pretty good, even if it's no Velvet Underground or Rock and Roll Animal.

[5] true

I hate these Boston Clams. And, nice to see my wee equine strike out.

"Lothargic": Of or pertaining to the literary character Lothario, best known for taking a long time between pitches.

Proud to the end, Timmeh.

[7] Or, it could mean resembling the lead of the Hill People. Who knew the hill was a pitcher's mound?

9 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 7:46 pm

[7] Not to pile on, but his explanation of why the obstruction rule needs modification was wincing. I'm almost feeling sorry for him

10 RIYank   ~  Oct 27, 2013 7:48 pm

[9] But nothing compared to Jake Peavy's whining.

I think I may dislike him more than Lackey now.

11 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 7:59 pm

i remember when Peavy shot his mouth off several years ago at an airport after his behavior got him in trouble. i don't remember what he did. this was back when he was with san diego...

12 RIYank   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:06 pm

[11] Yeah, in Alabama. My friend was just talking about that recently. Peavy parked illegal at the airport to go inside. The police told him to move, and he told them to give him a ticket and he'd just pay it.

So they cuffed him. Awesome.

13 RIYank   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:07 pm

"illegal" = "illegally" in [12].

14 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:09 pm

[13] I just thought you were using the Alabama vernacular.

15 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:10 pm

Beli!!!

16 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:11 pm

[12] yeah, that was it! i knew it was in 'bama. he's from Mobile, iirc.

My Little Whiffy!

18 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:27 pm

[17] Has the bearded pony ever strike out three times in a game? It seems like he rarely strikes out.

19 RIYank   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:33 pm

Isn't it kind of early for an IBB?

20 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:37 pm

Man, the Cards need a big inning, man.

21 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:41 pm

Jesus H Christ.

28 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:50 pm

29 RIYank   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:50 pm

I bet Lance gets out of this without another run scoring.

30 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:53 pm

I'm a little surprised Papi scored so easily on a pop down the line tagging up. Did he leave early?

31 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:56 pm

good. more of that.

32 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 8:57 pm

thank you!

now, score some fucking RUNS!!!

C'mon Cards!!!

33 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:02 pm

[32] I know the Yanks are your number 1; but your support for your now hometown Braves has got to make pulling for the Cards a little tough. But I guess it's ABB.

34 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:02 pm

no more laptop. i really wish the cards would've battered him...

35 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:05 pm

I now realize what the Sox remind me of. They kind of look like the Chilean miners after they were rescued.

36 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:08 pm

35) Good one. My vote is for a Civil War Reenactment platoon.

And…this shit is not going to end well tonight...

37 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:09 pm

[36] i know, but stop it!!! ; )

38 RIYank   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:09 pm

[25] [36] Deliverance.

39 RIYank   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:16 pm

This is Lance Lynn's final test.

40 RIYank   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:17 pm

Oh god he's going to walk him.

41 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:24 pm

and there it is.

: /

42 RIYank   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:25 pm

Yeah, intentional (or semi-intentional) walks.

Fuck Mike Matheney.

43 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:26 pm

i would've preferred the walk...

44 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:31 pm

[40][42] oh, i see what you mean.

i'm not watching...

45 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:34 pm

weak.

46 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:35 pm

Taking out Lynn had catastrofuck written all over it.

What's left of this isn't worth the hour of sleep it will cost me starting out the week. Night all.

Fucking shitsox.

47 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:44 pm

LET'S GO CARDINALS!!!

48 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:50 pm

[47] We can use that chant during the Conclave for a new pope.

49 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 9:54 pm

bring that runner home, dammit!

50 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:02 pm

51 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:05 pm

52 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:07 pm

54 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:22 pm

more runs are in the cards!!!

55 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:24 pm

Bogaerts and (Be)call(ed) strike three.

56 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:31 pm

Friggin John Jay. No justice for him.

57 JeremyM   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:31 pm

The Cardinals are embarrassingly bad with a runner on third and less than two outs. Weak pop ups and Ks looking galore.

58 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:32 pm

c'mon, freese. be a hero again!

59 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:32 pm

nope...

60 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:33 pm

What a waste, that run had to score.

61 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:51 pm

C'mon Beltran - tie the freaking game!!!

62 JeremyM   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:52 pm

What a moron.

63 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:54 pm

No words for that mistake. Picked off at first for the last out, down by two with Beltron at the plate? That is now a top 5 in the WS follies.

64 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:55 pm

fucking boo.

65 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2013 10:55 pm

OMG. brutal.
