1939 world's fair
Opening parade of the 1939 World's Fair! Westside Highway.
Just think, it opened May 10th, 1939, By September 10th of that year the world was at war.
Er wait, not Where & When?
Where & When will be on tomorrow. This was a happy coinkidink >;)
One of my favorite mementos: an admission ticket to the 39 Fair that my mom used!
Fabulous photos! I'm in the middle of reading Chabon's "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay" for the first time, with the '39 Fair a feature in the story.
Eye opening to see in the arial shots of how undeveloped Queens was at that time. Thanks for the link.
My parents were married in July of '39. They went to the Fair on the city bus. So much for a honeymoon.
