頑張れ、マー君!
Going to miss this live unfortunately, maybe make it by 5th or 6th.

2 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 6:36 pm

Nice lead off double.

3 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 6:38 pm

Now this is a good start.

4 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 6:45 pm

I approve of this new Yankee policy of scoring runs.

5 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 4, 2014 6:46 pm

Five hits! You just can't predict baseball! No one has yet!

6 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 4, 2014 6:50 pm

Few nice at bats here in the first.

7 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 4, 2014 6:55 pm

Good. He popped his cherry. Might as well get that out of the way and start over. It's okay, Tanaka. You're the man.

Give Melky credit for busting it out of the box there. Then take it back for the stupid facial hair. What is it about guys when they leave the Yankees? See: Cano, Robinson.

10 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:20 pm

Oof

11 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:21 pm

Nice job, Tesh.

Yeesh.

12 knuckles   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:22 pm

Please tell me this guy doesn't have Javy Vazquez where he gets ahead in the count then grooves one to the batter.

13 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:22 pm

So the wife is hostily indifferent to baseball this time of year.
Tanaka takes the hill and I'm bugging her to look up from her Facebook and check out our Christmas present in action.
The ball doesn't land before her eyes return to her iPad and she wishes me Merry Christmas.
I had to come here.
Shit two more runs and here's Melk. Fudging Jays.

14 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:23 pm

Fuggin Jays. Stupid iPad

15 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:24 pm

::facepalm::

Well, blargh.

16 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:25 pm

Well, at least it's likely only his hammy and not his wrist ...

sigh.

17 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:26 pm

Oh great.

18 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:26 pm

Uh oh. Teixeira hurt.

19 knuckles   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:26 pm

I meant Javy Vazquez Syndrome.

20 Chris   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:33 pm

Update on the Tex injury: He's a pussy.

21 SHU   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:42 pm

Not for nothing but....strike 2 and 3 on Bautista in the 1st inning were beyond nasty and 100% unhittable. Tanaka will be A-OK!

22 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:42 pm

Good challenge

23 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:43 pm

Well, that worked nicely.

24 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:45 pm

20) true

25 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:46 pm

Port Jervis!

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:46 pm

Soooooooolarte, oh woah ah oh!

Soooooooolarte ...

27 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:47 pm

Jervis!

28 mhoward120   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:47 pm

So-larte
Wo o o o

29 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:48 pm

Port Jervis indeed!

I mean, don't believe anything you see in April or September.

But still: Port Jervis, man!

30 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:52 pm

That Loop's a loopy LOOGY.

Alright, not really a LOOGY, but it sounds good.

31 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:55 pm

Strained hammy? I'm guessing a month.

32 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:58 pm

Wow! Port Jervis hasn't seen this much action since Roosevelt (Teddy). Port Jervis is where NY NJ and PA come together. You get your booze in NY, gasoline in NJ, and cigarettes in PA to begin that college road trip.

I'm liking this replay rule, hopefully Tanaka can hold the lead it gave him. Baseball is hard.

Tex is in trouble, I wish him the best.

33 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 4, 2014 7:58 pm

Jays putting down some good swings

34 Branco   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:01 pm

Yikes. Not to ring the alarm irresponsibly, but Tex ain't workin out so well anymore.

35 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:03 pm

I'm very optimistic about Tanaka.
Yes, they've got some hits off him, for sure, but he's striking out Jays like crazy, and not walking any.

36 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:04 pm

The split is nasty.

37 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:07 pm

Hellsbellbury!

38 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:08 pm

The Red Sox got their rings this afternoon.
Then Edward Mujica, pitching the ninth instead of Koji Uehara (who pitched the last two games) got rung.

39 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:08 pm

Oh, a play!

40 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:08 pm

Still not used to Ellsbury in pinstripes. Maybe next week.

41 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:09 pm

Hmmmm. In the fourth inning.
I don't get that at all.

42 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:10 pm

I guess the bunt and the IBB are offsetting stupids.

43 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:10 pm

And it worked.

44 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:11 pm

Ah, there ya go.

45 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:20 pm

Nice inning for Tanaka. You can tell, he's prime grade.

46 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:23 pm

Man, we are just going to wreck the Toronto bull pen tonight. In the first game of the series, that's always nice.

47 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:23 pm

Ichi ... NO!!!

48 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:25 pm

Goddamshizzofuggit.

49 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:32 pm

Tanakawakaboomboom!

50 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:44 pm

Jeez, a-hole.

51 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:53 pm

Uh oh, 3-0 on Lind.
Get it together, dude.

52 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 8:54 pm

Well done, Hero2.

53 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:00 pm

Kelly Johnson. Who knew?

54 mhoward120   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:06 pm

Knicks lost by 1. Melo as usual fucked up big-time in the clutch at the end of the game.

55 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:06 pm

Tanakkkkkkka!

56 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:10 pm

Tanakkkkkkkka!

57 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:10 pm

Nice. K to end his day.

58 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:17 pm

Don't think you're going to win this one, Joeyjoejoe ...

59 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:17 pm

Out

60 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:20 pm

Gritner!

61 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:20 pm

I missed it -- what was the challenge? (I saw the first one.)

62 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:22 pm

[60] whether the Toronto first base man was pulled off first on a bad throw. He had the ball in glove and foot on the bag.

63 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:23 pm

Gritty theft!

64 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:25 pm

Ohhhh.
I thought it was the Blue Jays who challenged. (GameDay is wrong on this one -- it might take them a while to get those right.)

65 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:26 pm

Okay, I saw the replay. Yeah, Gameday got it badly wrong, actually. They also left Anna on first base! Jeez, Ellsbury almost got his fourth hit. Shoulda.

66 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:36 pm

If Betances looks okay, does he get to pitch the ninth too?
My advice: yes.
My prediction: no (unless we score again).

Looks a little wild, anyway.

67 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:38 pm

[65] Betances *doesn't* look alright ... waaaaaay too wild right now.

Start dancin', Dellin!

68 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:38 pm

Dancin'!!!

69 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:39 pm

Port Jervis with the leather.

Ah Mo time!

70 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:39 pm

Nice.

How about another run, boys, just for entertainment?

71 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:45 pm

[68] Ah Mo amamus.

72 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:46 pm

Ichiro is hitting .556.
I doubt he can keep it up, but that would be something.

73 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:47 pm

Just got home. Teix is hurt? Again? Fucking A. His season is going to be another train wreck. Atta boy, Kid!

74 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:48 pm

Port FUCKING Jarvis!

75 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:48 pm

Sunofabitch. Holy shit.

76 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:48 pm

Not a save, no need for Mo. Jervis strikes again.

77 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:49 pm

Ahhhhhhhh Shite!

78 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:50 pm

1.467 OPS for Solarte. He's positively Bondsian!

79 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:51 pm

But a hit for Anna! Two Yankees get there first ML hit opening week, when did that happen -- when they both started games?

80 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:53 pm

A lime? Tequila shots after the game!

81 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:53 pm

AAAA pitcher? Fucking horseshit!

82 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:56 pm

Yeah, couldn't leave him in. Hate to waste D-Rob, but it's just not good to walk guys with a four run lead in the ninth. Bad sign.

83 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:58 pm

Heh, Chad Jennings wrote,

Betances gets a chance in a high-leverage situation.

But two outs in the eighth with nobody on and a three run lead is not exactly a high leverage situation! One of the lowest.

84 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 9:59 pm

[82] Shush, you ...

85 rbj   ~  Apr 4, 2014 10:00 pm

Grittner!

86 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 4, 2014 10:01 pm

Hammer to Gritner for the assist.

Sweeeeet!

87 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 4, 2014 10:01 pm

Nice catch, Brett. .500 baby!

88 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 10:01 pm

Hammer Come Down!

Good game, all.

89 jjmerlock   ~  Apr 4, 2014 10:03 pm

That was a generally pleasing effort. Hate having to use the closer when there's a chance that he won't be needed, and Mark's injury is worrying, but otherwise, that was an enjoyable game.

Ellsbury was terrific tonight.

90 RIYank   ~  Apr 4, 2014 10:06 pm

[88] So, are you gonna get a pink Yankee cap?
(Jacoby was a favorite with Boston Pink-hats.)

91 jjmerlock   ~  Apr 4, 2014 10:20 pm

[89] LOL. How vile. I actually was a bit physically uncomfortable as I noted, "hey, I'm really enjoying watching this guy named Jacoby play."
