He Arrives

fantasticfour_galactus_1-756627[1]

The Fantastic Four handled Galactus with the Ultimate Nullifier. Here’s hoping Buck Showalter is no Reed Richards. Taking the series from Balitmore would be a sweet way to gear up for the World Chumps. And oh yeah, Tanaka’s in da Bronx on a night striped with tidings of Spring.

Haven’t gotten wind of a lineup yet, but I will try to post it when I do.

What, I'm first? I thought I was late.

2 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:23 pm

Dang. Good smack, too.

3 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:24 pm

[1] Was just at Aikido. Sensei was a no show, as was the guy who was supposed to teach, so it fell to me. And I haven't been on the mat much for the past year, but it went well.

4 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:29 pm

Uh.
Michael Kay thinks that in the United States, the baseball games are played in three different time zones.

I wonder which zone he thinks has no baseball games.

5 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:33 pm

Wowsers. yikes.

6 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:34 pm

Aw crap. Thought that was foul

7 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:34 pm

Sunuva...

8 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:34 pm

Wowzers!

9 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:35 pm

I REEEEEALLY don't like that the manager can stall until he gets a thumbs up

10 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:35 pm

Oh, I thought HRs were automatically reviewed. No?
I guess I don't understand the rule.

11 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:36 pm

[5] [8] Two wowzers! Wowzerses.

12 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:39 pm

Nice one, Carlos!

13 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:39 pm

Beltran bomb!

14 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:42 pm

Bronx Bombers!

15 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:42 pm

So it's gonna be one of those games.

16 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:42 pm

Good thing he didn't Jeter out of the box. ; )

17 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:44 pm

Kelly Johnson looks like a heavier Ted Mosby

18 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:45 pm

Who is Ted Mosby?
On train listening to O's radio fees ( they're very good). Is my man Ma-Kun getting shelled? Who is this Schoop that took him deep?

19 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:46 pm

Walks before homers. That's how it's done. Maybe Young Jarvis can show them how.

20 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:47 pm

Turn him loose on 3-0 please!

21 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:47 pm

Rats. Just missed it.

22 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:47 pm

[18] The main character from the How I Met Your Mother

23 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:47 pm

Bah.

24 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:50 pm

[18] Not killed, but big mistake. Jonathan Schoop, big young 3B. Looks good.

25 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:56 pm

(24) thanks RI. Tanaka is going to be tater prone it looks like bit he doesn't walk many guys so it's acceptable.

26 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 6:59 pm

[25] Sounds like Phil Hughes.

27 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:03 pm

This August FXX is going to do a 12 day 552 episode Simpsons marathon

28 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:04 pm

Wow, he just bamboozled Cruz. Nelson had no idea where the ball was going.

29 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:10 pm

[26] That's exactly who I was thinking about as Tanaka's pitch count creeeped towards 60 in the top of the third.

30 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:15 pm

Brooks and Frank Robinson is the answer to the quiz I'm positive.

They've also both won League MVPs (Frank won both leagues) and they're the only players to win league, all star and World Series MVPs at some point in their career

31 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:18 pm

[26] That's a horrible thing to say about someone

32 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:19 pm

Okay, there's a 1-2-3!
Now he can go six innings, should be no problem.

33 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:24 pm

Half way to the cycle

34 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:26 pm

I like and admire Derek Jeter, there's been it seems a piling on about his declining defense. His throwing does look a little rickety, I just hope he never has to make excuses or be embarrassed. He just needs to help the team win, and get through this year.

35 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:27 pm

Good base running.

36 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:38 pm

He does have 8 K through 5. Pretty damn good.

37 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:42 pm

This kid's bound to crush one. And soon.

38 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:43 pm

Port Jervis!

39 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:49 pm

Aw nerts.

40 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:50 pm

Too bad Porto didn't make it to second on that bloop hit. Tanaka would be winning.

41 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:52 pm

Oof. Watch those hands, Sori!

42 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:52 pm

Flashing some D!

At least our OF can do it ...

43 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:53 pm

[42] HA!

44 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:53 pm

Well that was quick.
So he'll maybe even go seven, after that rough start.

45 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:53 pm

The aging all-stars strike again. Now score some fucking runs.

46 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 7:57 pm

Ugh. Fuck the shift.

47 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:03 pm

Tanaka ain't no Hughes.

48 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:05 pm

[47] Wish JoeyJoeJoe would let him head to the 8th, 100 pitches for this guy is nothing.

49 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:06 pm

TanaKKKKKKKKKKa!

50 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:06 pm

Hell yes.

51 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:06 pm

[48] Eh, long season, save the bullets.

52 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:07 pm

Man, if he got a do-over for that one bad pitch this game would be a gem.

53 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:11 pm

[51] Well, yes but there is no proof that 100 pitches is 'safer' on the arm than 120 pitches. Every pitcher has his own body. Tanaka just doen't need any 'Rules'..(and I shudder just typing that damn word..)

54 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:22 pm

Very nice pitching!

55 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:26 pm

FFS!

56 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:26 pm

Argh. Hate that.

57 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:30 pm

[52] 7 ip. 6 hits 0 runs 11 k's (shouldawouldacoulda k'd Schoop)
sigh....

58 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:31 pm

Well this is fun

59 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:33 pm

Yay!

60 MSM35   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:36 pm

Jeter has been a wonderful player. Unfortunately, he is the anchor of a very poor defensive infield. There will be many extra hits given up by this group. Hope for more runs and many fly balls.

61 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:38 pm

GRITNER!

62 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:38 pm

Atta boy, Brett. Jeter bunt methinks.

63 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:39 pm

Ooooh, Gritner was likely dead to rights at 3rd.

64 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:41 pm

Squeeze?

65 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:42 pm

[60] I think Roberts is an average or maybe slightly plus 2B. We don't really know about Solarte. First base doesn't have a huge impact defensively. So I don't think it's going to be that bad.

66 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:43 pm

Boy does that suck.

67 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:43 pm

Grrr.

68 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:44 pm

Jesus christ.

69 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:44 pm

Shoulda squoze.

70 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:45 pm

More like ... Smellsbury ... amirte???

=(

71 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:46 pm

Fug. DAMMIT.

72 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:46 pm

Seriously people thought that 300 foot lazy flyball was going out? Even Kay didn't

73 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:47 pm

Have to check the stats, but I'd bet it's closer than it looks, Beltran really isn't strong against LHP.

Ouch, welcome to LCF in NYS, Brian McCann, you'll probably want to avoid that area in your future ...

74 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:50 pm

This lead off double will not go to waste. Or will it? dun-dun-DUN!

75 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:51 pm

Ouch. Not enough arm from Gardner, but Coney makes it sound like he might not have had any chance on it if the runner had been busting it all the way ...

76 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:53 pm

I have a feeling Kelly as the closer is not going to be a fun two weeks

77 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:53 pm

Oh, fudge.

78 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:54 pm

I HATE the $#$!@#$$!@$#!@#!$ o's. grrrrrrrrrrr!

79 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:54 pm

[77] Except ... I'd didn't say ... fudge.

80 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:56 pm

Some hard luck for Kelly here. Shame--another impressive performance for Tanaka after he wasn't crisp early.

81 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:56 pm

Kelley ain't been great, but he made good pitches on those last 2 hits.

Only way out is through, Kelley ...

82 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 8:56 pm

I think it was Cone who calls him "Big Game" Tommy Hunter, which completely misses the point of the nickname.

He also says James "Big Game" Shields, so he may be in on the joke

83 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:00 pm

Michael Kay just said that Adam Jones is gonna "take in every Yankee/Oriole game this year."Well no fucking shit. He'll be there.

84 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:00 pm

Jeez

85 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:04 pm

Sad Trombone ...

86 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:05 pm

They're worried that this inning may prevent Kelley from closing games against Boston.

Like Kelley is Rollie Fingers or something.

87 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:07 pm

Hmmm. Do we get an early clue into to the story of this season, tonight???

88 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:09 pm

Whoever said that Johnson reminded them like a LH version of Aaron Boone, was spot fucking on ...

89 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:09 pm

I'm not sure that's a base hit. I'm quick to award errors though

90 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:10 pm

Oh, come on, don't have Ichiro anchored to first

91 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:10 pm

I think I would have sacueezed, right there ...

92 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:11 pm

[90] You don't expect an old dog to suddenly learn new tricks, do you?

93 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:12 pm

I fucking HATE when we put in a pinch runner so he can stand on first and wait for the game to end

94 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:13 pm

Damn. Just not enough.

95 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:15 pm

I hate Joe Girardi. I really do.

96 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:16 pm

Holy frustrating. Good on Tanaka, though.

97 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:17 pm

Double fucking play, with an assist from Joey Joe Joe with another successful "pinch stand there" ... and that's how it goes.

98 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:18 pm

I mean seriously. Kelly Johnson couldnt stand on first and wait for the game to end? We needed SPEED to not run? I HATE THAT FUCKING MOVE.

99 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:27 pm

[98] We rarely agree on things, but ... I FUCKING HATE THAT MOVE.

100 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 9, 2014 9:36 pm

[98][99] We on&off agree on things but I too...FUCKING HATE THAT MOVE.

[100] What he said.

I also hate Girardi's 8th inning tactics. Why waste an out when you have a (supposed) base stealer, Gardner, on 2nd? Give him a chance to run and give the hitter a chance to get a goddamn hit, fercrissakes.
