The Yanks meet the Rays. Last year, C.C. was no bueno against Tampa. Let’s hope that changes, starting tonight.

Never mind the lousy dome:

Let’s Go Yank-ees!

From lohud:

"Scott Sizemore has never played first base. Not once. Not in Detroit. Not in Oakland. Not in the minor leagues. Not in college. Not at Hickory High School in Virginia.

He’s playing first base tonight."

Oy.

1) Keeping it interesting.

3 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:14 pm

That's a hit.

4 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:25 pm

McCann can! Phew, I was worried we were going to squander that start.

5 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:26 pm

Shift that!

6 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:28 pm

Good job by Price getting out of it.

7 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:30 pm

Got a run, made Price work a little. Good start.

8 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:35 pm

Nice, CC!

9 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:35 pm

Wow. Good man!

10 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:41 pm

Way to break out of your slump, Brian.

11 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:41 pm

Brian Roberts!
I'll take it.

12 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:42 pm

Geez, I didn't realize how many Yankee fans were in the park till now.

13 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:44 pm

Me!

14 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:44 pm

I don't remember the last time I saw back-to-back triples.

15 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:46 pm

Cap gets it done!

16 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:46 pm

[14] Ichiro was in between. Cap'n getting it done.

17 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:50 pm

Did Carlos dog it there? Rays' radio team shocked he didn't run..

18 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:50 pm

Oh, right, of course. Not back-to-back.

Okay, so that's a very good start against David Price.

Time for the Formerly Fat Man to do his thing.

19 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:54 pm

[17] I couldn't tell. It's possible he thought he was out on the caught line drive and stopped running, then started again. He was definitely slow to first.

20 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:56 pm

Hm. Not what we were looking for.
How about a nice GIDP.

21 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:57 pm

TRIPLE PLAY!!!!!

22 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:57 pm

Holy shit.

23 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:58 pm

I guess I was [20] not greedy enough!

24 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:58 pm

When I saw the ball hit and Solarte field it I yelled, TRIPLE PLAY, TRIPLE PLAY" and by the third "Triple Play" they'd completed it.

NICE!

25 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2014 6:59 pm

Wow!! Destiny now for Yanks to win the Serious, Baseball Gods are smilin'!

26 MSM35   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:00 pm

Scoop by Sizemore wow!

27 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:01 pm

[25] Has she replaced Aura and Mystique?

28 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:03 pm

Dang, missed the triple play.

29 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:03 pm

[27] Aura had an accident while pole-dancing and Mystique ran off with A-Rod. But Destiny is still around!

30 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:16 pm

Dammit.
No walks with a four run lead, please.

31 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:18 pm

Careful, Carlos

32 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:20 pm

Well, there are a lot of smiles out there, so maybe he's fine.

33 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:20 pm

And CC takes care of business. (Also McCann holds it.)

34 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:21 pm

Yikes, that was scary.

I wonder how many times Beltran has played in Tampa. There is that second fence and I wonder if that's what he saw in his eyeline because he clearly didn't know the wall was there when he went over it.

35 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:31 pm

Are you fucking kidding me?
WTF was Roberts thinking? And Sizemore. Geez.

36 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:31 pm

Tailor made double play has the threads unravel.

37 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:32 pm

I would have challenged that one. Close, but worth the challenge.

38 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:32 pm

[36] Bad tailor.

39 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:32 pm

There's the double play

40 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:33 pm

Damn.
Well, the IF defense may not be great, but they've made some nice plays too.

41 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:34 pm

Freaking circus.

42 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:38 pm

Oh good, Big Papi got robbed.

Now get that run back.

43 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:43 pm

Price is getting low strikes that Sabathia isn't.

44 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:44 pm

Evening all ... what'd I miss?

[scans comments] A F&*^$^G TRIPLE PLAY?!?!?!!?

Wow.

45 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:45 pm

BACK TO BACK!!!!!

46 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:45 pm

I'll take that

47 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:46 pm

Good.

48 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:47 pm

Pip Jervis! Get into that bullpen to start the series

49 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:48 pm

McCann, yes you CanCan!!

50 RagingTartabull   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:50 pm

Too Many Homers

51 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2014 7:51 pm

[50] Not team players. 'Puig-ist' is the correct term I believe.

52 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:02 pm

CC!

53 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:07 pm

The Heath Bell Experience?

54 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:10 pm

Productive.

55 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:11 pm

Fun fun fun! I just saw the "tailor made" triple play on mlb.com. Back to back HRs, lots of extry base hits, CC pitching well. Nice game to come home to.

56 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:11 pm

Good job.

57 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:11 pm

This is starting to get close to CC meltdown proof

58 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:13 pm

Cap'n!

59 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:13 pm

Cap'n!

60 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:16 pm

Every time Jetes has to turn on the speed, or slide, or take a throw with a runner bearing down on him, I worry that this will be the last injury and play of his career. It's just too precious.

61 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:18 pm

CC being crafty. I don't believe the run against is earned.

62 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:18 pm

[60] He looks pretty good running

63 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:18 pm

[61] Tis not

64 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:20 pm

Ichi-san

65 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:21 pm

Nice outing from CC

66 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:27 pm

Rapist warming up.

67 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:27 pm

Port Jervis continues to impress.

68 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:27 pm

[66] Beat me to it ...

69 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:28 pm

Lueke in the pen. IIRC he has a sexual assault conviction.

70 coleman42   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:28 pm

Fun Fact: 6 of the Yankees playing tonight are hitting above .300, who says we don't have good offense?

71 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:29 pm

Port Jervis ! I'm digging his continued success.

72 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:34 pm

Can we get double digits?

73 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:39 pm

[69] He's a really bad person. He should be in jail, but short of that should certainly be run out of the game.

74 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:40 pm

[73] White Guys who 'play the right way' can remain no matter what they do, right? Hit their wives, drunnk drive, sexual assault, etc.

Double No-No in Sox-Sox game now by the way..

75 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:48 pm

[74] Jameson Whitson Florida State QB also had a rape investigation squashed, he went on to win the most recent Heisman. He's black. Athletic talent is the passport. Awful.

76 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:54 pm

[74] [73] in the Bible Belt, you just have to ask forgiveness, accept JC as the lord and savior, brush yourself off and start all over again.

77 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:54 pm

[75] Really? That's awful! I don't follow college sports so had not heard that..
Was thinking more about Tony LaRussa, his rings came from playing 'juicers'. He gets in the HOF while Bonds & A-Rod look from the outside..

78 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:54 pm

Dancin' Betances!

79 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:55 pm

[77] NY Times (I think) had a big story about the "investigation" within the last week.

80 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2014 8:55 pm

Well this is fun

81 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 9:02 pm

[77] There are some inconstistancies in the woman's testimony, so it was a hard case to prosecute, so it's unknowable what happened. But the investigation, yeah read the Times article apparently in the 2010s the QB gets what he wants. Fucked up priorities.

82 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2014 9:02 pm

Where was that pitch? Betances is just too stressful in high leverage sitchiations.

83 MSM35   ~  Apr 17, 2014 9:11 pm

Hasn't pitched in a week. He needs steady work to be effective.

84 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2014 9:12 pm

Fonzie!

85 Bobtaco   ~  Apr 17, 2014 9:18 pm

Yan Solo!

86 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2014 9:19 pm

This Port Jervis has more significance than the original.

87 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2014 9:20 pm

Double digits!

88 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 18, 2014 4:38 am

[81] I agree that, these days there is as much "win potential" in it as as race (to some extent), but Micheal Vick ferchissakes, the dude was running a dog fighting ring, had the book thrown at him and lost the peak of his career.

Honestly, nothing against dogs, but who gives fuck? Dogs fighting = public enemy No.1 Sport fishing = TV hero. Makes no sense at all. Kill a shark, you are on the front page. Zero logic.
