I Remember the 35 Sweet Goodbyes

tumblr_n47kyoLA5c1r3owlzo1_500

Just as some lovers will always have Paris, C.C. Sabathia always has Milwaukee where he once pitched his ass off for half a season. C.C. made his name in Cleveland and will pitch for the Yankees for a long time but his brief stay over in Milwaukee saw him at his best.

We can only hope the comfortable surroundings bring good things tonightski.

We are also treated to the defensive stylings of Brendan Ryan. Welcome back, dude.

Carlos Beltran RF

Brian McCann C

ok! i'm not optimistic with CC going, but i'm hopeful. Let's Go Yan-Kees!

2 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:12 pm

Btw, I like Miller Park. The tailgating there was a blast the one time I made it there. We even sought out the Uecker seats and sat there for a couple of innings.

3 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 6:16 pm

Come on, formerly large man.

4 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 6:17 pm

Aw crap.

5 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:18 pm

cc, he destroyed that pitch. that is not good.

6 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 6:18 pm

Ugh.

7 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 6:18 pm

That's no way to say "Thanks" or "Welcome back" to the guy who carried your asses to the playoffs.

8 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:19 pm

ok that's one.

9 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:25 pm

ok, it was just one run. He settled down fine. Still, CC makes me nervous.

10 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:28 pm

ok, let's do this! nice hit tex!

11 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 10, 2014 6:30 pm

Just tuning in, are they playing in New Delhi or Beijing? Why does it look so hazy?

12 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:31 pm

huh? with mccann batting?

13 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:31 pm

[11] The sun is really bright in center field so I think it's just causing that hazy look in the center field camera.

14 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 6:31 pm

Oh good. A play.

15 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 6:33 pm

[11] Same with the Brewers feed? Looks like they closed the roof and then had a fireworks show. Don't know.

16 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:33 pm

solarte!

17 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 6:43 pm

Much better CC.

18 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:43 pm

Good inning CC!

19 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 6:45 pm

Good job Brendan.
Nice ovation for CC.

20 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 6:49 pm

Exactly, Michael. "The unfairness goes both ways." That's the kind of unfairness that we sometimes call: fair.

21 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 6:50 pm

Gritner!

22 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:50 pm

gardy! yes!

23 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 6:51 pm

Holy fuck. That was fast. Both of those guys.

24 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 10, 2014 6:51 pm

[20] Yes! The mutual unfairness likewise goes both ways, as does the complmentary score now!

25 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 6:51 pm

If we could just avoid those fucking double plays, we could have a pocketful of runs by now.

26 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 6:51 pm

Woo hoo! Two out hits.

27 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:52 pm

nice!

28 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 6:52 pm

Excellent!

29 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 6:52 pm

[25] We should do more to avoid outs. I think that would help a lot. :)

30 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 6:56 pm

[29] Fewer plays -> fewer outs.

31 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 6:57 pm

[11] I agree. The game was on different channel than YES and it looked like a grainy 70's movie. I figured it was the channel. Tonight it's not much better. Do they put cheese dust in the fireworks?

32 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 10, 2014 6:58 pm

[31] Shotz wort residue?

33 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 6:59 pm

Booooooooooooooootsy!

34 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 7:01 pm

Oops

35 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 7:02 pm

Good work, CC. Way to pick up your teammate.

36 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 7:02 pm

Oh fer crissake.

37 thelarmis   ~  May 10, 2014 7:03 pm

fuck, shit, piss, and...hell.

38 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 7:03 pm

Oh, Dear Mo. : (

39 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 7:03 pm

ugh. horrible.

40 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 7:03 pm

Fucking batting practice.

41 thelarmis   ~  May 10, 2014 7:04 pm

cc - what the FUCK???

42 thelarmis   ~  May 10, 2014 7:04 pm

these balls are being CRUSHED!

43 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 7:05 pm

What the hell? I leave for a minute and there are now 4 runs?

44 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 10, 2014 7:05 pm

That's 850ft of taters..

45 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 7:06 pm

Of course

46 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 7:09 pm

Ryan made an error but the bulk of this is on some real bad pitching.

47 thelarmis   ~  May 10, 2014 7:09 pm

cc has given up TEN homers already.

48 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 7:11 pm

[46] And yet, only one of the four runs is earned! (Although Gameday says two. That's obviously wrong. Only the first homer is an earned run.)

49 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 7:12 pm

[47] Today?? I thought just three.

50 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 7:16 pm

[48] yeah, i'm glad for that in a weird way. I want cc to right the ship and finish with a solid ERA.

51 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 7:17 pm

Boy, that sucks.

52 thelarmis   ~  May 10, 2014 7:17 pm

[49] well, we are only in the top of the 4th.

[...this season.]

53 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 10, 2014 7:27 pm

This Miller Park is kind of ugly. I liked the old County Stadium better.

54 jjmerlock   ~  May 10, 2014 7:34 pm

I am in complete despair over CC. Is there any reason not to be in complete despair over his utter uselessness? Other than this just being a game, but seriously, complete despair.

That contract is death. Please help me find something within this cloud. He's fucking killing this team.

55 coleman42   ~  May 10, 2014 7:39 pm

Beltran is looking a bit paunchy these days. Much more than in his Royals days, and even more than in Spring Training.

56 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 7:40 pm

Come on Kay, do that slide.

57 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 10, 2014 7:43 pm

Meredith Marakovitz is 6ft tall?

58 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 7:46 pm

Over the yellow line.

59 thelarmis   ~  May 10, 2014 7:47 pm

BOOM!

60 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 7:48 pm

Mark goes the other way!

61 Mattpat11   ~  May 10, 2014 7:53 pm

I'll say it again. I just don't see what everyone else sees with Brendan Ryan. People get so excited about range that they're willing to overlook when he makes silly mistakes on easier plays. And he makes *a lot* of them

62 jjmerlock   ~  May 10, 2014 7:57 pm

[61] I don't understand people seeing anything in Ryan, period. He can't hit. Isn't that kind of disqualifying? It makes me sick to see him on a lineup card.

63 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 7:58 pm

[57] like most statuesque women, she's 5 foot 12.
[54] someone has to pitch 200 innings this season. CC has I believe this year and next left on contract. If he can get through 6 and give up 4 runs, that is marginally acceptable in the regular season. I hope he gets better soon.

64 jjmerlock   ~  May 10, 2014 8:02 pm

[63] I believe we're stuck watching him in 2015 and 2016 - AND - there's a vesting option that's likely to vest in 2017. The contract is death.

65 Mattpat11   ~  May 10, 2014 8:03 pm

[62] You know what? If he was Ozzie Smith in the field you could overlook it. And people want him to be so badly. But he's scatterbrained or something. Remember when he allowed a runner to score from second on a groundball to shortstop last year? I've never seen any shortstop, good or bad do that.

He's also no Ozzie Smith with the bat either, but that's another matter entirely

66 jjmerlock   ~  May 10, 2014 8:04 pm

I can't take it. He is HORRIBLE.

Seriously, is there a worse contract in the major leagues?

I don't think there's any way out, and I see absolutely no signs to indicate anything is going to change.

67 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:04 pm

CC looks like toast at this point
[62] totally agree. The pressure for him to be great in the field, and he boots easy ones. He doesn't have many productive outs either.

68 jjmerlock   ~  May 10, 2014 8:05 pm

[65] I've certainly never bought the idea that he is in any way exceptional in the field.

69 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:06 pm

[66] Arod's?

70 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 8:07 pm

Nice job, Kid. 1 more out.

71 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 8:07 pm

betances! one more man...

72 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 8:08 pm

Nasty!

73 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:09 pm

Nice stuff for DB!

74 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:09 pm

Holy smokes, this kid is the real deal.

75 seamus   ~  May 10, 2014 8:09 pm

this kid owns!

76 jjmerlock   ~  May 10, 2014 8:09 pm

Freaking awesome by Dellin, but man, CC is a HUGE problem, figuratively, if no longer literally.

77 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 8:09 pm

Betances dances out of trouble again!

78 thelarmis   ~  May 10, 2014 8:09 pm

Dellin!

79 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:10 pm

So, not for nuthin but, CC gets one earned run for that performance.

80 jjmerlock   ~  May 10, 2014 8:10 pm

[69] The suspension gives my ears a temporary reprieve from all the steam caused by that one.

81 coleman42   ~  May 10, 2014 8:10 pm

Dellin tto the rotation! Dellin to closer!

82 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:12 pm

One of these Yankees short relievers has to be valuable trade bait ...

83 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:13 pm

Alfredo Aceves is getting his gun hot in the Yankee pen???

Did Flash really say that?

84 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:15 pm

[82] Interesting idea. I like it.
I would trade any of them except Betances. (And I like D-Rob a lot, but I just think relief pitchers not valuable except for the handful of truly great ones.)

85 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:16 pm

[83] with that lisp...

86 coleman42   ~  May 10, 2014 8:18 pm

[85]??

87 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 8:18 pm

Well that was a gigantic fucking waste of an at bat.

88 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:19 pm

Shoulda bunted.

89 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:20 pm

Hellsbells should have bunted there, he might have legged it out.

90 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 8:22 pm

Whoo-hoo, Sori!

91 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:22 pm

[86] Flaherty does have a slight lisp.
And Fonzie hits one 50 feet to tie the game!

92 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:23 pm

Michael said "a base hit" before the ball got through the infield!

93 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 8:23 pm

Shift that

94 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 8:24 pm

Nerts

95 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:24 pm

DAMMIT.

96 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:25 pm

Bellie might have been safe at first there.

97 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:28 pm

Ace had "an innate ability to pick up victories."

I wonder what Michael's first language was.

98 coleman42   ~  May 10, 2014 8:30 pm

You have to catch that ball, Carlos!

99 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 8:33 pm

Balk?

100 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 10, 2014 8:33 pm

[97] Bronx-ese?

Muthafugger.

[97] NY Post prose

Lucroy is the 2014 edition of Yankee Killa.

104 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:37 pm

So, the pitching and the defense are costing us this game. The hitting is fine, although the timing could have been better.

105 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:43 pm

Every time Kay says Lucroy's name, it reminds me a Jerry LaCroix who played with Edgar Winter's White Trash band. That Road Work album is indelibly stamped on my brain (that sounds like something Michael Kay would say).

106 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:46 pm

[105] He'd say it was stamped inedibly on your brain. Or innately.

107 Mattpat11   ~  May 10, 2014 8:47 pm

[105] I always think of Matt LeCroy, the man that made Frank Robinson LeCry.

108 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 10, 2014 8:47 pm

Losing a game to shitty defense is unacceptable. At least I didn't get to hear Kay talk about his fallacy of pre-determined outcomes.

109 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:48 pm

[105] a lot of Yankees will be losing sleep tonight. Ryan, CC, Beltran, and more.

110 rbj   ~  May 10, 2014 8:50 pm

Well then, let's give K-Rod an era

111 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:52 pm

109 for 104.

114 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 10, 2014 8:58 pm

[113] yes! but without key feedback, it just leads to one finger hunt and peck.

115 Mattpat11   ~  May 10, 2014 8:58 pm

20 years in and Kay still can't read an outfielder.

116 RIYank   ~  May 10, 2014 8:59 pm

Ah well.
Crappy game. Some bright spots.
Win the series tomorrow!
