I still like this stupid thing.

2 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 4:29 pm

At least it's only four games and not six.

3 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 6:14 pm

That didn't take long.

4 Chris   ~  May 12, 2014 6:15 pm

Quick question: WTF is up with those ridiculous white-brimmed hats?

5 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 6:16 pm

Oh, come on -- I'm six minutes late and this is what I find??

6 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 6:22 pm

Alright Derek.

7 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 6:30 pm

[4] special Subway Serious caps? Because the Yankees aren't making enough money?

8 coleman42   ~  May 12, 2014 6:31 pm

It's part of their deal with New Era caps per game day blog.

9 Chris   ~  May 12, 2014 6:34 pm

According to a tweet by YES, the Yankees are wearing the hats as part of their partnership with New Era. So, exactly what you said….

10 jfdrums   ~  May 12, 2014 6:36 pm

I am disgusted beyond belief by those hats. These are the Yankees, if other teams want to play dress up every night, fine. Not the Yankees. When they wore the cap last year, Jeter was hurt but on the bench and he refused, wearing the real hat the first few innings and none the rest of the game, after I assume someone from New Era complained.

11 coleman42   ~  May 12, 2014 6:37 pm

I could care less what hat they wear. Oops, McCann singles!

12 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 6:39 pm

Rally?

13 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 6:41 pm

No plays, please!
Hey, thanks!

14 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 6:42 pm

Uh.
Hurry back, Teix.

15 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 6:44 pm

Jesus H christ.

16 coleman42   ~  May 12, 2014 6:45 pm

Wow!!!

17 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 6:45 pm

Brettski!

18 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 6:46 pm

Wow is right. Damn.

19 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 6:46 pm

Say hello to my lil' friend!!

20 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 6:46 pm

Oh yeah, Colon. I remember now.

21 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 6:46 pm

Very Gritty

22 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 12, 2014 6:47 pm

I always miss out on the Grand Salami! Was distracted by some quakin' earth plates here a few mins ago..

23 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 6:48 pm

[22] Wow, really? Brett rocked YS2, but not that way. Should you go outside or something?

24 Bama Yankee   ~  May 12, 2014 6:49 pm

Put me down in hat hater column. Alabama football and the Yankees are my two favorite teams. Both have the best traditions in their respective sports and neither have changed their uniforms in forever...no need to start now.

25 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 6:51 pm

[20] Right? True outcomes working for the Yankees? Who knew?

[22] If you see this country rockin', don't come a'knockin...

Honestly, it's about time somebody got tired of all this LOB crap and did something about it.

26 coleman42   ~  May 12, 2014 6:54 pm

[24] But what about Robinson Day all wear 42, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Pink for Breast Cancer day (yesterday, I thought it was for Moms Day), Probably others I've left out.

27 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 12, 2014 6:56 pm

(23) Unless you're in some dilapidated old building it's probably safer indoors. If near any bamboo trees (unlikely in city) go there, safest spot to be in.

28 Bama Yankee   ~  May 12, 2014 7:00 pm

I'm not a big fan of the multiple 42s, pink stuff or baby blue stuff either.

29 coleman42   ~  May 12, 2014 7:03 pm

[28] As an "Ex Ad Man," I would freak out if/when they start putting brand logos on the uniforms, like NASCAR.

30 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 7:04 pm

The red hats on the Fourth is horrible. At least let the Yankees use the 1914 hat. It's histprical.

31 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 7:05 pm

[24] They both pay their players a lot too! haha couldn't help it. :)

32 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 12, 2014 7:06 pm

How or Rose just talked about 'In 1996 there were a lot debates in the sports pages about which new NY shortstop was better, Jeter or Rey Ordonez'.... Poor Mets fans!

33 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 7:12 pm

Kuroda Kruising.

34 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 7:16 pm

[32] Bill Daughtry brought up Kaz Matsui on Saturday. It's definitely a thing with the Mets.

35 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2014 7:17 pm

[24] both a little late embracing the beautiful mosaic

Nice catch by Hellsbells!

Hate the hats, if you wipe pine tar on the brim, ugh.

36 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 7:19 pm

This game is really moving along.

37 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 7:22 pm

OK actually watching game now. I can't believe I missed gritner grand slam. Oh yeah, gotta find that highlight (serious ADHD).

38 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 12, 2014 7:25 pm

This is not the first time this year I have tuned in to see something immediately shitty. Dammit!

39 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 7:25 pm

[38] same here. That was horrifying.

40 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 7:26 pm

D'oh!

41 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2014 7:27 pm

I wonder if d'Arneaud (sp) is the only small d beginning name in the history of the majors?

42 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 7:31 pm

[41] My cat's name is d'Artagnan...

43 coleman42   ~  May 12, 2014 7:32 pm

[41] That question is above my pay grade...

44 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 7:36 pm

3 hit night for Derek.

So far.

45 Bama Yankee   ~  May 12, 2014 7:37 pm

[41] Karim d'Garcia ;-)

46 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 7:39 pm

I predict that if Lucas Duda hits a home run, John Sterling will break out "Camptown Races" and I will be forced to stomp my radio flat. He and Suzyn just love saying his name.

47 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 7:39 pm

[45] Who?

48 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 7:40 pm

espn gamecast is terrible. I decided to try NBA.com and lo and behold the Nets are winning!

49 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 7:40 pm

[45] I was trying to figure out a way to work that in back when we were talking about Mets flameouts >;)

50 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 7:40 pm

[45] [47] d'Who?

51 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2014 7:40 pm

[44] we've been giggling about those hits. They could be hired out as service animals.

52 coleman42   ~  May 12, 2014 7:43 pm

The GrandyMan can!

53 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 7:43 pm

Race ya to the bottom!

54 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 7:44 pm

Good old Curtis.

55 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 7:44 pm

62 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 7:57 pm

No way! Green lighted! And delivered!

63 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2014 7:58 pm

So l'Arte! A real artist! ROY?

64 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 7:58 pm

And the thing is, with Sori on second and one out in a tie game, I was actually thinking: this is the guy I want up out of everyone in the lineup today.

65 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 7:58 pm

nice play! haha. Solarte has been delivering for my fantasy team thus far. I figured what the heck.

66 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 8:00 pm

woot! nice!

67 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 8:00 pm

OMG.

Relax, Teix. Get that leg looked at, we'll be fine for a couple days.

68 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 8:01 pm

Kelley!

69 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 8:02 pm

omg that's like the third run down this week.

70 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 8:03 pm
71 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 8:04 pm

And B-Rob's baserunning blunder costs us.

72 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 8:09 pm

Or maybe it costs nothing!
Awesome.

73 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 8:09 pm

ok that works.

74 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 8:11 pm

Hm.
So, how do you score that?? (Jeter's out, I mean.)

75 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 8:11 pm

Well d'Arn... that was cool.

76 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2014 8:12 pm

[71] not so much.

With Aceves warming up in the bullpen, that means he will not be starting the game on Thursday, and someone coming up from Scranton will start.

77 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 8:14 pm

That's a canyon

78 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 8:15 pm

[74] hmm. good question. brib (batter run into ball)?

79 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 8:16 pm

[74] According to play by play: "D Jeter grounded out to catcher."

80 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2014 8:16 pm

[78] error on the batter? That's kinda funny.

81 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 8:16 pm

[74] Unassisted put-out; nearest fielder (catcher)

82 Bama Yankee   ~  May 12, 2014 8:17 pm

[74] Scored as a Put Out to the nearest fielder (the catcher), I believe.

83 coleman42   ~  May 12, 2014 8:17 pm

6U

84 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2014 8:18 pm

d'Arn he walked.

85 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2014 8:19 pm

So...if this keeps up could Solarte be Rookie of the Year?

86 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 8:21 pm

Jeez

88 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 8:22 pm

ugly game.

89 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 8:24 pm

[82] Not quite. The catcher gets the put-out.

10.09 (b) The official scorer shall credit an automatic putout to the catcher when a… (4) batter is called out for being touched by his own batted ball...

90 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 12, 2014 8:24 pm

94 Chyll Will   ~  May 12, 2014 8:30 pm

95 rbj   ~  May 12, 2014 8:32 pm

Thank you Mutts!

96 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2014 8:32 pm

Well that was impressive. Good play.

97 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 12, 2014 8:32 pm

Kay is such a douche. He's so sure they "got him" and the angle doesn't even show The Kid's glove on the leg. SAFE!

98 seamus   ~  May 12, 2014 8:33 pm

[97] he looked very out to me. On second view you can see glove on inner part of leg before foot touches base.

99 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 12, 2014 8:36 pm

I guess it doesn't matter now. Oh, well. Good.

Good thing we have those Lefty Speshalists on the team.

115 Mattpat11   ~  May 12, 2014 9:09 pm

I think Kay thinks if he keeps saying the Yankee bullpen had been great it will make it so

116 Boatzilla   ~  May 12, 2014 9:12 pm

Picked a bad day not to give up on the Yanks.

Now I have to makes some boring Fuso utility van sound exciting. My Japanese client has the audacity to suggest my copy is not in the "working man's vernacular. I got yer vernacular right heah!

117 NYYfan22   ~  May 12, 2014 9:13 pm

I mean, we knew this bullpen was a liability coming into the season. (btw, "liability" looks wrong in this font - too long or something)

118 Boatzilla   ~  May 12, 2014 9:13 pm

[113} When you're the boss, you can do that. Keep working hard, my son, and you too may get there.

119 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2014 9:20 pm

Why does Leiter keep naming Brad Roberts for Brian Roberts? Brad Roberts was the croaker in Crash Test a Dummies.

120 Mattpat11   ~  May 12, 2014 9:20 pm

What on earth was Gardner waiting for?

121 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2014 9:22 pm

GrandyMan can't.

123 Boatzilla   ~  May 12, 2014 9:30 pm

For awhile now, these games have been like watching a bad "B" movie. It's cheesy along the way, you know the ending is gonna suck, but there are a few hot topless chicks and there's nothing else on TV.

Going to be a long season. Fortunately the rest of the division is not very good either. Stay close until healthy then win by one. If anyone was thinking that winning is the birthright anymore get used to a new paradigm.
