Slow day here at the Banter. But the Yanks remain in Chicago for the weekend. They begin a 4-game series against the White Sox this evening. Their prize? They get to face Chris Sale.

Either way, we’ll be root-root-rooting them on.

Never mind the deep dish:

Let’s Go Yank-ees!

Hmm, what building is that?

2 Sliced Bread   ~  May 22, 2014 1:41 pm

1) and when was it taken, Chyll? Don't forget when!

3 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 6:19 pm

Is it Chicago?

4 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 7:03 pm

blue colored & blue sided skyscraper new york & Chicago didn't return the building.

5 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 7:16 pm

On the one hand, he struck out the side. On the other hand, it did take Sale 18 pitches to do it.
But he fucking struck out the side in order. Could be a long night.

[5] 1st inning profanity..you listening to the Hawk?

7 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 7:30 pm

[5] was thinking the same thing. Split the 4 games on the road with Sale getting one of the Ws?

8 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 7:30 pm

El Duque did it better Dunn.

9 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 7:32 pm

I think we're starting to tire him out. The Flailing Strategy is excellent.

10 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 7:34 pm

[6] Oh god no. I'm not that much of a masochist.
But you meant 'obscenity'. There's nothing profane about 'fuck'.

[10] Hmm..maybe I like the torture but I will tune in to the Hawk for an inning or two. It's quite awe-inspiring, really.

12 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 7:46 pm

I can't believe the Yankees hired Hawk for a year.

13 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 7:46 pm

Big batter here. If Eaton smacks it, the game could be out of reach.

14 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 7:49 pm

Doubleplus ungood

15 MSM35   ~  May 22, 2014 7:54 pm

I love the Hawk's home-run call. And you can "Put it on the Board". Sorry I lost my head.

16 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 7:54 pm

Even the two runs might be out of reach, huh?
I think the third inning is a write-off, so let's hope they work the pitch count, and maybe get to Sale the second time through the order.

Uh, yeah, John Ryan. Like that. Not.

17 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 7:55 pm

Yup, a long night.

18 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 7:59 pm

At least Zoilo got my "Everyone strike out on nine pitches" memo.

19 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 7:59 pm

Sales is perfect through 3. (gotta pull it out early tonight)

20 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 8:06 pm

[19] If he can throw a 147 pitch perfecto, I'll be extremely surprised.

21 MSM35   ~  May 22, 2014 8:10 pm

Lack of runs reminds me of last year. Can we do something about Roberts and maybe Kelly Johnson? They don't have much left.

22 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 8:10 pm

[20] Nolan Ryan would approve. But he gave a nudgie to WS manager Robin Ventura.

23 Mattpat11   ~  May 22, 2014 8:14 pm

I'm not sure the Yankees even have a good swing tonight.

24 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 8:30 pm

No damage

25 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 8:31 pm

I'm not a Phelps fan, but the De Aza at-bat impressed me. He's doing okay.

26 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 8:35 pm

Through 5.

27 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 8:36 pm

Yeah, way to go fellas, way to work those counts. Eight-pitch inning.

28 Mattpat11   ~  May 22, 2014 8:42 pm

[27] Working the count wasn't exactly working either.

29 RIYank   ~  May 22, 2014 8:44 pm

[28] But it gets Sale out of the game sooner. Eight-pitch innings will mean a CG.

30 Mattpat11   ~  May 22, 2014 8:46 pm

I have a feeling the Yankees are gonna trade for Hammel and I really think they're gonna regret it

31 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 8:46 pm

Never has been a combined perfecto

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 22, 2014 8:48 pm

[22] What the hell's a nudgie? lol.. Noogie, perhaps.

33 Mattpat11   ~  May 22, 2014 8:48 pm

Oh thank Christ.

34 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 8:48 pm

A hit! Ventura's managing job just got easy

35 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 8:49 pm

[32] Yeah. Haven't remembered the term in 30 years.

36 rbj   ~  May 22, 2014 8:54 pm

Early morning, night all.

37 Mattpat11   ~  May 22, 2014 9:23 pm

Aceves really is awful

38 coleman42   ~  May 22, 2014 9:39 pm

He was significantly better the first time around...

39 coleman42   ~  May 22, 2014 9:46 pm

Hard to believe Ellsbury OBP remains at .341 after his month-long struggles.

40 coleman42   ~  May 22, 2014 9:54 pm

Yankees offense anemic. They should have gotten to Sox pitchers as soon as Sale left.

41 Boatzilla   ~  May 22, 2014 10:06 pm

Guess it's gonna be one of those days. ("Three O'Clock High")

I woke to found I was out of coffee, so rather than walk to the convenience store in my jammies I had to succumb to the Old Man's instant (bleah). Then I tuned in just in time to hear the ill-fated rally in the 9th. I was actually, pounding the table after Tex's hit.

Do I regret any of it? No, I'm alive, and that says it all.

blue colored & blue sided skyscraper new york & Chicago didn't return the building.

Regarding the building, that's the Helmut Jahn-designed State of Illinois building, built in the 1980s in Chicago's Loop.

The reason your search didn't hit is that the building is only maybe 10-12 stories, and because it fills a city block the impression is more squat than skyscraping.
