Cheap hit. Throw it back, it's undersized.

4 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:18 pm

Heh.
Cool hit, I must say.

5 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:22 pm

Phew

6 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:26 pm

Whew.

7 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:28 pm

I couldn't tell, but it must have hit his toe, because otherwise he would have run.

8 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:28 pm

Thief!

9 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:29 pm

Wow. Crap.

10 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:29 pm

"Where triples go to die."

11 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:42 pm

Whew!

12 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:42 pm

Phew again

13 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:43 pm

And yes, Wordpress, I did already say that. And it's pretty damn likely that I'll say it again.

14 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:46 pm

[13] Yeah, I got that too. Have to get creative.

15 coleman42   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:48 pm

Whew!

16 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 6:59 pm

Hard to walk Ichiro.

17 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:03 pm

Good.
Now score, for gods' sake.

18 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:05 pm

Good. No DP

19 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:05 pm

Brett channeling his inner Jacoby.

20 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:06 pm

Yes!

21 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:06 pm

Wow!
I guess Jeter does still care after all.

22 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:08 pm

Me!

23 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:08 pm

Uh oh.
We get penalized for scoring more than one run in an inning, right?

24 coleman42   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:09 pm

Wowza!!

25 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:15 pm

Of course

26 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:16 pm

Well, I don't mind trading homers as long as ours are three times as valuable.

27 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:19 pm

Nope, I don't see this Jeter kid having any career past this year.

28 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:21 pm

That's better

29 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:22 pm

And, that's a whew.

30 coleman42   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:22 pm

Interesting, no slo-mo replay of the grounder to Jeter

31 coleman42   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:35 pm

Slo-mo of Jeter called strike3 though

32 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:41 pm

Uh oh.

33 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:47 pm

Okay, that's acceptable.

34 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:47 pm

Lifting Nuno?

35 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:49 pm

[1] Thornton next?

36 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:51 pm

Okay!
Good job by Nuñy.

37 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:54 pm

[35] AhhhahahahahhhhH!
Oh, you meant following Aceves, not next into the game.

To me, Thornton is just an ordinary relief pitcher. MattPat despises him, but MattPat despises a lot of relief pitchers.

38 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:54 pm

[36] I remember someone referring to Mike Hampton as 'Hampy'..made me a bit nauseous..

39 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:55 pm

[38] Girardi used to call Eduardo Scissorhands "Nuñy". I find it particularly ridiculous. Probably because of the ñ, I dunno why exactly.

40 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:59 pm

Hoo boy.

41 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 4, 2014 7:59 pm

[39] Would be fun if they called Johnny Gomes 'Gomey'. 'gomi' means trash in Japanese..

42 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:00 pm

Oh, man.
WTF happens to this team in the second half of the game? It's excruciating.

43 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:03 pm

[41] I think the formula yields "Gomesy".
I wonder what he would call someone named "Lee".

44 MSM35   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:03 pm

Bad teams lose games late. Just like the 62' Mets.

45 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:04 pm

Twitter comments that The Gerbil, Don Zimmer has passed away...one of the many to play such important roles for both the Red Sox and Yankees..

46 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:05 pm

Oh man, bummer about Zim

47 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:06 pm

We're still favorites, but if Norris steals third Oakland becomes the favorite, it's that close.

48 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:06 pm

Oh, wow.
I kind of thought he'd never die, Zimmer.

49 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:07 pm

Now Oakland is the favorite.

Okay, I'm starting to hate Matt Thornton.

50 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:11 pm

[49] Thornton is the most useless player on a bad team. He really needs to be the next to go.

I hope baseball does something nice for Zimmer

51 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:11 pm

WHEEEEE-EEEEW.

52 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:12 pm

Um, phew?

53 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:12 pm

This team still needs an enema ...

54 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:13 pm

Yikes. Real impressive, Thorton.
And RIP Zimmer. My favorite memory of him will be wearing the Army style Yankee helmet the day after he was almost brained in the dugout. Jeter and the gang got a good laugh at of that one.

55 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:14 pm

[54] I remember that one! I think we got the older, mellowed-out 'statesman' Zimmer on the Yanks. I read somewhere that his Sox players all hated him in the late 70s :)

56 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:14 pm

And with that strikeout the Yankees become the favorites again.

57 MSM35   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:15 pm

(49) He has a lot of competition. RIP Zim.

58 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:15 pm

[56] How so in a tie game?

59 coleman42   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:16 pm

My vivid Zim memory was when Pedro decked him, though I remember him as a Dodger backup player in mid-50's

60 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:16 pm

Wow! I thought The Kid's only play was at home. Great play!

61 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:17 pm

He's out.

62 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:17 pm

Damn.
'Whew' doesn't do justice to that one.

63 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:18 pm

[58] (Because we had more outs to use -- the bottom half of the inning.)

64 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:19 pm

[63] It must not take into account that the Yankees already scored twice their daily allotment.

65 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:21 pm

[64] Heh

66 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:23 pm

It is funny, actually, that nobody who uses Win Expectancy worries about the 'scoring environment' of the day. Being ahead 12-10 in the eighth gives you the same Win Expectancy as being ahead 2-0 in the eighth. I bet that's not realistic, but all the tables and calculators do it that way.

67 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:27 pm

I sure am glad Roberts stood there and waited for Ichiro to hit a homer. That worked out

68 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:27 pm

[66] Also that the bench includes pinch 'hitters' like Johnson and Ryan...work calling, hope I don't miss an exciting finish!

69 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:30 pm

"The numbers just tell ou run ever time you can!"

So of course we don't. Jacoby Ellsbury took something like nine pitches to run last night and we just wait around today.

70 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:31 pm

[68] And Soriano!
Yeah, the bench is really, really weak now.
Beltran returning soon though.

71 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:32 pm

[69] Who said that? I wasn't listening. It sounds like a dumb comment so I'll guess Leiter.

72 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:33 pm

Alright kid, just play catch!

Go get 'em, rook!

73 RIYank   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:34 pm

Hm.
So, Ramirez is probably not The Answer. On the other hand, he's fitting right in!

Now according to form the entire relief corps should collapse.

74 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:35 pm

Well, poo.

75 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:35 pm

aw fuck

76 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:40 pm

[71]The Oakland A's catching corps couldn't throw me out.

77 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:53 pm

Weird. Need a clean hit here.

78 rbj   ~  Jun 4, 2014 8:54 pm

blergh!

79 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 4, 2014 9:04 pm

Meh.

80 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 4, 2014 9:04 pm

C'mon, rook!

81 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 4, 2014 9:14 pm

Well, that blew whale chunks ...

82 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 4, 2014 9:15 pm

The Kelly Johnson experiment has been another complete swing and miss in an off season seemingly full of them, huh?

83 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 4, 2014 9:24 pm

Okay. I've seen enough. Cut LeBlanc.

84 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 4, 2014 9:25 pm

Well, so long and thanks for all the fishes ...

85 MSM35   ~  Jun 4, 2014 9:25 pm

Are they having tryouts? Who is this guy?
