16 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2014 12:45 pm

Standing Room seats at Fenway were going for over $300 on the secondary market.

17 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 28, 2014 12:47 pm

Welp, at least he hit it on the screws.

18 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2014 12:55 pm

19 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:03 pm

I think Mookie is Dickey's son.

20 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:09 pm

Mike's mowing down the PawSox today.

21 mhoward120   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:16 pm

Tyler Kepner in the Times today wrote that Russell Martin was the 6th most valuable player in the NL this season. Wow!

22 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:23 pm

Well that was cool!

(I would have preferred a walk, honestly.)

23 rbj   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:23 pm

Nice hit Ichiro!

24 rbj   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:24 pm

[22] Yeah, a salami would have been nice.

25 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:25 pm

30 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:27 pm

31 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:28 pm

Ok, I'm crying a little.

32 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:28 pm

Just like that.

Farewell, Derek.

33 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:28 pm

34 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:29 pm

[31] At last we understand your tag!

Excellent finish. I was ready. I know he was.

35 mhoward120   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:29 pm

As Dylan once said, "Now is the time for your tears."

36 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:29 pm

[21] he's had a great year. so has phil phranchise.

37 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:29 pm

Sweet.

38 coleman42   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:30 pm

And he beat out an infield hit to cap it!

39 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:31 pm

[35] bury the rag deep in your face...

40 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:32 pm

[19] I think your thinking needs to be thought about.

I'm about to head to rehearsal with Butch's son...

41 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:33 pm

speedy gonzalez!

42 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:33 pm

can we add that run to derek's ledger?

43 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:34 pm

.310 with 3,465 hits.

44 rbj   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:42 pm

Including the post season, Derek has played in 2905 games. 2901 of them had World Series win implications. 99.86% That's probably the most remarkable statistic.

45 randym77   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:47 pm

I guess that's one good thing about the Yankees being out of it this year. They could give a proper sendoff. It wouldn't be possible if the Yanks were still on contention.

46 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 28, 2014 1:52 pm

Now I'm finding myself thinking, again, "Who are the Yankees now?"

I'm sad.

47 rbj   ~  Sep 28, 2014 2:06 pm

Crazy playoff scenarios.

48 monkeypants   ~  Sep 28, 2014 3:16 pm

Jeter probably held on a year too long, and I know I am in the majority saying I'd rather have a great player play a season ot two too many than try to end on a storybook high note and maybe call it quits too soon.

49 rbj   ~  Sep 28, 2014 3:50 pm

One down

50 rbj   ~  Sep 28, 2014 3:52 pm

Two down

51 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 28, 2014 3:53 pm

A little melancholy this season be. Even with all the injuries, the Yankees had a chance...probably needed to score on average one more run per game. Scrubs and whose that pitcher? were the norm.

And the end of an era, an all time great retiring. Just feel a little sad.

Thanks Alex and all who post here for another great baseball season with the Banter.

52 rbj   ~  Sep 28, 2014 3:54 pm

Three down

And curtains.

53 MSM35   ~  Sep 28, 2014 6:26 pm

Can't say this was a great season. However it's nice to be among fans who do not boo and are not looking to fire the GM, manager and owner after every loss. Enjoy the off season. We will enjoy the site for wit and wimsy in the coming months.
