Huzzah! The best day of the year! How's everyone doing?

7 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:04 pm

Happy Opening Day.

Took Friday & today off. Spent the weekend cleaning, especially steam cleaning the carpets (dogs didn't always make it outside the past couple of winters, and given how cold the winters were, can't blame them.) Knew I was going to be exhausted this morning. And I get to watch opening day.

And yes, they are both shelter dogs.

8 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:05 pm

Let's go Yan-kees!!!

9 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:06 pm

i've got hot dogs, chips, and nacho cheese dip for the game! Also breaking out the Baseball Highlights 2045 game for some in game gaming!

God I missed baseball

[13] hey thelarmis! That's a bummer but thankfully there are 162 games!

16 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:10 pm

Dammit, he may be a Pariah, but he's our Pariah. Nobody outside of NY better mess with our Alex.

17 thelarmis   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:11 pm

Torre.

18 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:11 pm

first pitch tips. Good to know.

19 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:13 pm

Does our season hang by a thread ( the shredded thread of an elbow tendon)?

20 thelarmis   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:13 pm

i'll take that strike!

21 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:13 pm

26 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:15 pm

How great would it be if the Rays moved to Montreal?

28 thelarmis   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:17 pm

Joey Bats recently wrote a good essay on education at Jeter's Player Tribune site.

29 thelarmis   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:18 pm

i love baseball.

30 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:18 pm

Sweet first inning.

31 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:18 pm

striiiiiiikee!

32 Jon DeRosa   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:19 pm

200 more innings like that please.

33 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:19 pm

If we can extrapolate that first inning to 162 games, "sigh" I can dream.

34 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:20 pm

[32] Yes - and another 20 or so in the playoffs!

35 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:20 pm

Nicely done.

36 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:22 pm

[35] Hello Good Alex. I thought you didn't like "ly" adverbs?

37 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:24 pm

Awww . . . I thought that was going out! Early in the season for us fans, too. :)

38 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:33 pm

Aw nerts, there goes the no-no.

39 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:35 pm

Phew

40 YankInEugene   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:36 pm

Yay! Baseball is back and Tanaka looking good!

c'mon chase, wanna see alex this inning!

43 coleman42   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:42 pm

Which Yankee will get the first hit?

44 thelarmis   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:43 pm

[43] A-rod of course!

i'll prolly miss it...

45 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:44 pm

Happy Opening Day, y'all! Stuck at school but I finally found an online radion station.
Go Yankees!

46 thelarmis   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:45 pm

nice play by gritner.

47 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:46 pm

nice work gardy!

48 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:49 pm

Crap

49 thelarmis   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:49 pm

this inning sucks.

50 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:49 pm

I suddenly regret finding the game on the radio.

51 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:51 pm

Headly not having the best of games.

52 thelarmis   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:51 pm

this is not what you want.

53 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:51 pm

oh man. c'mon tanaka.

54 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:51 pm

double crap

55 coleman42   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:52 pm

OK I'll say it. Kay jinxes Tanaka by exclaiming at top of this inning how he's been good in first two innings vs last year when his ERA was much higher in innings 1-2.

56 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:52 pm

I blame A Rod.

57 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:55 pm

Dammit!

58 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:55 pm

Fuck Toronto.

59 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:56 pm

Just keep saying, 161 more games.

60 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:56 pm

Ugh.

61 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:56 pm

grrrr

62 thelarmis   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:58 pm

if alex doesn't tie it up with a 5-run homer leading off the inning, release him. ; )

63 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 6, 2015 12:59 pm

[56] In homage to the great HBO Sinatra doc, I blame Eva Gardner.

64 thelarmis   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:02 pm

huge ovation and good AB for Alex.

65 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:04 pm

and of course, we take the player with those batting stats and we make him a starter.

66 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:07 pm

We got 'em right where we want 'em...

67 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:15 pm

there we go. one more Tanaka!

68 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:22 pm

The ESPN announcers are great, except that their comments on Tanaka are giving me the shakes. "He won't throw the fastball" "he isn't throwing the fastball" "he's trying to throw anything other than the fastball" - any it isn't idle speculation, either - the data backs it up.

69 mhoward120   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:22 pm

(56). Ava Gardner. Eva Gabor.

70 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:26 pm

[68] What's the pitch distribution? Because they've been noting on YES that he has been throwing 90-93 consistently with his fastball. But I don't know how many have been thrown.

71 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:28 pm

[69] Yup, thanks.

72 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:29 pm

I can't believe the Yankees are being no hit.

73 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:30 pm

There ya go!

74 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:31 pm

nice!

75 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:31 pm

[72] nice work!

76 YankInEugene   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:46 pm

[55][40] I blame myself.

77 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:47 pm

A hit for A-Rod!

78 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 6, 2015 1:53 pm

[70] I don't recall the exact numbers now, seamus, but I believe it was around only 30% fastballs when they brought it up.

79 coleman42   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:00 pm

Torre making me pine for the 90s

80 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:05 pm

Gritner!

81 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:05 pm

[78] Thanks Shaun.

yes! Gritner!

82 randym77   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:05 pm

Gardy! Remember when he had no power and people wondered if he could stick to a big league roster?

83 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:13 pm

These games happen.

84 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:13 pm

horse shit.

85 RIYank   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:29 pm

Damn, missing the whole thing.
Although, maybe just as well. Ugh.

86 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:32 pm

Not a [John] Sterling way to start the season.

87 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:33 pm

David Price comes within an out of a complete game shutout.

88 coleman42   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:34 pm

Carpenter looks good

89 seamus   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:38 pm

let's rally!

90 mhoward120   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:47 pm

In his whole career, Jeter never did anything as dumb as Gregorious in his first Yankee game.

91 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:50 pm

Nothing Glorious about that Didi.

92 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:53 pm

There's a great way to introduce yourself to a new fanbase Didi.

93 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:55 pm

The bullpen looks solid, so far, if nothing else.

94 Start Spreading the News   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:57 pm

I was listening to the early innings (I bought the MLB gameday so I can listen to the away announcers and avoid Sterling and Waldman). Tanaka was pitching well and things seemed good. I step away for a few hours and now it's all bad. SERENITY NOW!!!

At least Arod seems to be ok.

95 Greg G   ~  Apr 6, 2015 2:59 pm

If the Big Stein were alive today, after he was done parking all the cars, he would fire Joe Girardi and hire the corpse of Billy Martin.

We'll win the next 161! Who's with me?

96 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 6, 2015 3:05 pm

In a stunning development, the guy that walked everyone last year continues to walk everyone this year.

97 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 3:09 pm

Born in 1994? Boy do I feel old now.

98 rbj   ~  Apr 6, 2015 3:12 pm

Nerts. Oh baseball is back.

99 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 6, 2015 3:12 pm

I literally just turned on the tv to see the final pitch.

I guess I didn't miss much.

Everything ok with Tanaka?

(And all the same, Happy Opening Day, Team!)

[99] And Happy Opening Day to you, weeping!

[100] He was on second, Beltran on first, Tex at the plate, 2 outs. Fireballing reliever was just brought into the game. On the first pitch, for some reason, Didi took off for third and was out (not close).

I wonder if he went on his own initiative, or if this was the new third base coach's fault?

102 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 6, 2015 3:28 pm

Looks like I didn't miss much, huh?

103 Shaun P.   ~  Apr 6, 2015 3:47 pm

[102] Nope.

104 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 6, 2015 4:49 pm

Ohayo, everyone! I'm so excited to cue up the game and watch another Opening Day Yankee victory!

105 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 6, 2015 7:21 pm

[101] laughing

Oh, dear.

Please let that be chalked up to a case of the yips and not be prologue of things to come.

106 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 6, 2015 11:32 pm

[imagine of Charlie Brown ball cap on, head hung]

"I can't stand it. I just can't stand it."

It's going to be a long season.
