I wonder if Niese's little macho showdown with Doug Eddings on Friday will cost him some zone space tonight.

2 RIYank   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:12 pm

That's not a good start.

I kind of miss Curtis, though.

3 randym77   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:13 pm

Me, too. Always liked Grandy.

4 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:17 pm

Amazing catch.

But God, this is looking ugly.

They're all hammering the ball.

5 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:17 pm

Phew....nice catch.

6 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:17 pm

Even the out was loud.

7 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:18 pm

Man, thank God for the defense.

8 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:19 pm

Jesus.

9 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:20 pm

So if the Mets are simply going to sit on fastballs all night it's going to be a short night for Meat.

10 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:21 pm

God, they are just getting savage swings off him.

11 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:29 pm

Yaaay, Alex!

Sped his bat up there!

12 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:29 pm

Yay-Rod!

13 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:29 pm

Sweet! Atta boy, Alex!

14 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:30 pm

Give em 2 errors!

15 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:38 pm

hi, team.

that was a nice inning!

i need to see a replay of #659...

16 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:38 pm

Nice rebound.

Keep that up, Nate old boy.

17 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:42 pm

nice double, J.R.

18 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:44 pm

petit!

knotted up at dueces!

19 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:44 pm

Yaayy!!

Tied up!

Way to go from the scrubs!

20 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:45 pm

Bottom of the lineup getting it done!

21 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:46 pm

Brett!!!!

Yaaayyyyy!!!!

(I want this game so bad.)

22 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:46 pm

23 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:46 pm

Sweet!

24 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:47 pm

That was a nice swing. He looked so balanced.

25 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:47 pm

i dig chris young.

4-2

c'mon, Alex!

26 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:47 pm

C'mon Alex, tie Willie!

27 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:48 pm

4 XBH in less than 2 innings.

i wish they'd show #659.

28 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:49 pm

my dad won't be happy when alex ties - and passes - willie, but he'll like it if the yanks win.

29 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:49 pm

[25] He made an incredible catch in the first, racing back to track down a hard line drive over his head.

Alex!

Hahah!

Wtf was that throw?

30 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:49 pm

I'll take that

31 randym77   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:49 pm

Good grief, that was one horrible throw.

32 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:50 pm

Alex wanted a triple.

33 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:50 pm

wow. what a weird play!

alex with a double. what an awful throw by Cuddyer. C.Y. scores before A-Rod is tagged out, foolishly trying for three...

and i still haven't seen #659.

34 RIYank   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:51 pm

This game has drastically improved since I last dropped in to Banter.

35 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:51 pm

[29] i need to see a replay of that too!

cuddyer makes johnny damon's arm seem like vlad the impaler's!

36 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:51 pm

[34] that's because i showed up.

37 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:52 pm

Holy shit. I missed 4 runs!

38 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:52 pm

ESPN is terrible about replays. I wanted to see Young's hit again and then that last play.

39 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:53 pm

that's 3 K's in a row.

40 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:53 pm

Sit down, Curtis.

(I love you, but sit your ass down.)

41 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:54 pm

I kinda like Schilling in this role.

42 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:54 pm

[38] yeah. and i wanted to see cuddyer's throw like 73 more times!

43 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:54 pm

[40] exactly.

44 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:55 pm

4 K's in a row!

45 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:55 pm

Just a bit outside.

46 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:55 pm

[41] So funny, I was just thinking the same thing.

He's perfectly civilized, not obnoxious, and has interesting things to say.

47 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:56 pm

OK, Cuddyer is up. show the throw!!!

also, he looks a lot like McCann with a beard. holy crap. he's taller and not in a braves uni, but i had to do a double-take.

48 RIYank   ~  Apr 26, 2015 7:56 pm

[36] Oh, right, but also in other ways.

49 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:01 pm

Fuck.

Fuck.

Fuck.

50 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:01 pm

Ugh

51 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:01 pm

bollocks.

do NOT let them score one more.

52 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:01 pm

Why exactly was no one in any kind of rush to get that ball?

53 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:02 pm

(41) It's sitting next to Krukie..makes anyone shine.

What's happening team, what I miss??

54 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:02 pm

and there it is.

crap.

55 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:02 pm

I'm going to cry.

I can't take this.

56 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:03 pm

Wait til Yanks get up!,

57 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:03 pm

alex's double tied him with wille - 523

58 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:04 pm

I like Schilling in exactly zero roles.

59 randym77   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:04 pm

Eovaldi, I know you're Italian, but quit serving up meatballs.

60 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:05 pm

we're still winning.

61 RIYank   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:05 pm

Lead intact.

62 RIYank   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:06 pm

[58] I think I'll sign on for that one too.

(He's not wildly popular in Rhode Island.)

63 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:06 pm

Teix has to hit another couple of dingers.

64 RIYank   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:07 pm

The Red Sox "pitching staff" coughed up 18 runs this afternoon, to the Orioles. Just sayin'.

65 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:10 pm

Carlos, Carlos, Carlos.

66 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:10 pm

[64] That's no small tally of runs.

67 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:13 pm

(64) But they're projected to run away with the AL Least..!!

68 RIYank   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:13 pm

[66] It is a Great Tally, in fact.

69 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:16 pm

Beli has struck out twice today...

[64] nice! we were at a festival this afternoon; when i checked it was 11-zip.

70 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:16 pm

Krookie waxing eloquent about everything Mets...

71 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:17 pm

oh, but now i'm seeing the shit sox came back to score 7 runs. that's no small tally either...

72 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:17 pm

I think this season (and maybe even this game) we're seeing why people dream on Eovaldi but why he's never been very good.

73 RIYank   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:19 pm

[71] Yeah, after 11-0 each team got a touchdown.
They can score runs (although the Orioles wasted no good relievers), but their pitchers suck. They also lost a beauty last night: scored in the ninth to send it to extras, scored in the tenth, then gave up two in the bottom of the tenth to lose.

74 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:21 pm

safe!

75 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:21 pm

Very nice.

That Duda guy sure has trouble with the scoops. Kind of reminds me of Giambi on that score.

76 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:21 pm

Damn it.

77 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:22 pm

[73] yeah, i saw some highlights of last night's 9th & 10th innings. i approved of the outcome!

not so much of the DP that just happened.

78 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:23 pm

We need more fucking runs.

79 randym77   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:29 pm

Oh, jeez.

80 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:30 pm

Is there any chance we win this game?

81 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:31 pm

Get em next time, Eovaldi. FFS!

82 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:33 pm

Agggggghhhhh!!!

83 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:33 pm

Double play please.

84 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:33 pm

Aren't lefty specialists just so much fun to watch?

85 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:34 pm

nice DP!!

86 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:34 pm

Oh, thank God.

That was huge.

87 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:34 pm

Thank you

88 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:35 pm

90 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:37 pm

91 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:37 pm

They're better DPcombo than Drew at second and Didi at short.

92 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:39 pm

Damn it.

God damn it.

93 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:39 pm

wow. i thought he was out, but via replay he was safe.

94 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:40 pm

Safe!

95 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:40 pm

Fabulous.

96 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:41 pm

don't bunt, dude.

97 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:41 pm

I wish Brett could steal.

98 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:43 pm

99 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:43 pm

i agree with the homer bonus money going to charity. i've thought that for awhile...

100 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:43 pm

love it!

see. don't bunt!

Can they really not pay A-Rod when it's in his contract?

102 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:44 pm

The Mets middle infield kinda sucks, huh?

103 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:44 pm

Man, what a big break.

Come on, Alex.

Let's get some runs.

104 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:44 pm

That's a nice break. C'mon, Alex. Do some damage (and don't hit into a double play!).

105 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:44 pm

Jeez, this milestone home run thing sounds like a dead horse still being beaten.

That's a weird bounce

106 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:44 pm

Nice time for a HR

107 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:44 pm

[97] Indeed!

108 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:44 pm

I like good bounces.

109 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:44 pm

[101] I think the deal is that you're not allowed to put "milestones" in a standard player contract so this was some kind of side deal

110 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:45 pm

Why take that?

111 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:45 pm

[104] Even a double play scores the run

112 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:45 pm

Settle down, Alex. Don't get jumpy.

Nice solid contact.

113 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:45 pm

We'll take it.

114 randym77   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:46 pm

Gawd, their defense is brutal.

115 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:46 pm

The MUTS!!!

i love it.

Alex should get an RBI though...

116 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:46 pm

Run in, Keystone Mets!

117 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:46 pm

Wow!

Wow!

Man, thanks, Mets!

I'll take it.

118 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:47 pm

Holy clown show.

119 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:48 pm

OK, Beli.

it's time, dude. get your act together. 3-run bomb time!

120 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:48 pm

Carols is killing us.

121 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:49 pm

And there's Beltran

122 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:49 pm

jeez, carlos.

why is he hitting ahead of chase? they're both switch-hitters...

123 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:49 pm

glad we got another run.

let's a have quick and clean frame and get the bats back in the box!

124 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:49 pm

Fucking Bollocks!

125 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:50 pm

[108] that is true. It's not part of the main contract, however can be denied based on violation of some good behavior clause in the main contract (I.e., the suspension).

126 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:52 pm

Can we take Carlos into the woods and promise him a bread crumb trail?

127 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:53 pm

Lead off walk = booooooo

132 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:55 pm

[124] it would make for an interesting sports/contract law case, but I suspect there will be a settlement.

133 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:58 pm

He was safe, wasn't he?

God.

134 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 8:59 pm

Three outs!

The Mets are gift-wrapping this game for us.

144 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:00 pm

I'll take that, too.

145 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:00 pm

[134] Yankees have loved tall pitchers for years

Well, that was no good by Campbell

146 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:00 pm

Benny Hill time..Terry Collins is going to go Billy Martin on his team soon.

147 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:00 pm

[133] Wall St Journal had an article about this yesterday.

148 randym77   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:01 pm

[124] Interesting. Maybe A-Rod wouldn't even contest it?

149 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:03 pm

Assuming he still enjoys his work, its cool to see the 70 year old camera man.

If he's doing it only because he has to, alot less cool.

150 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:04 pm

i dig chase.

definitely want more runs!

151 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:05 pm

Way to go, Chase.

All right, boys, cash this the fuck in!

152 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:06 pm

[146] oh yeah? cool! do you possibly have a link? (no worries if you don't...)

153 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:06 pm

154 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:07 pm

shoulda bunted! ; )

155 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:07 pm

156 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:08 pm

i think you might need an account to read wsj online, unless you have a link...

157 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:09 pm

Commentators are unendingly talking about how wonderful Mets are, even though they're losing.

158 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:09 pm

[154] totally cool! there may have been a link on the twitter feed on the side of the lohud blog..

162 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:10 pm

[166] same here.

171 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:20 pm

Wow..a LOT of A-Rod hatred still out there on Twitter. I wonder what it's like inside the minds of people obsessed with putting asteriks on Bonds/Clemens/A-Rod's stats..no disrespect intended, I just find it curious to feel so intense about such things.

172 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:21 pm

I wouldn't be entirely opposed to a lot of insurance runs here in the bottom of the seventh

174 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:28 pm

Hit a homer Alex!

175 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:29 pm

A dud of an inning.

176 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:29 pm

Nerts.

177 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:32 pm

[173] Guess we ain't gonna see it tonight/this morning. It would have been nice for him to get it against the Mutts.

178 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:33 pm

98 - siddown!

179 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:34 pm

another nice k!

180 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:34 pm

God.

Jesus, that was a filthy pitch.

181 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:36 pm

[170] i know. it's not like alex hit his wife and threw down an old man in the organization. but, of course, manny was celebrated as "fun." bollocks.

another K, of sorts...

182 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:36 pm

it's like he swung after it bounced!

183 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:36 pm

[170] Dude, there are way too many people with WAY too much time out there. I'm have to keep reminding myself, "never look at the comments, never look at the comments…" at that's for the NY Times!

184 coleman42   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:37 pm

I want this ump at all our games

185 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:37 pm

Nice inning.

186 rbj   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:38 pm

[180] or campaigned to keep certain people out of baseball based upon their skin color like Cobb & Hornsby did.

187 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:40 pm

That was one of the most impressive innings I've seen

188 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:40 pm

That was filthy.

189 randym77   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:40 pm

Too bad Betances didn't work out as a starter. Imagine 200 innings of stuff like that.

190 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:41 pm

[182] Boat! Been too long..we need to get a Yakult game in soon.
'Never read the comments' is indeed great advice.

191 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:41 pm

that's a deflating at-bat.

i dig the big hat. the wrap-around - haven't seen that before. doesn't make the hat itself bigger and doesn't affect vision. just an additional support pad.

192 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:42 pm

Dig that crazy chapeau!

193 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:44 pm

Kinda looks like a Daniel Boone hat or a Raccoon hat ("Woo-woo, Norton.").

194 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:46 pm

Quick music diversion: Pat Benatar tuened 62 last January..just came on the radio here.

195 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:47 pm

i imagine the padding barely weighs anything. prolly just a coupla ounces. yet somehow can protect against high velocity...

196 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:47 pm

that's one!

197 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:47 pm

198 thelarmis   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:48 pm

Excellent, just in time for mid-day grub. First Place!

208 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:54 pm

I won't say "nice win," because the Mets kind of gave the game away, I'll say it's nice to win.

Either way, I'll take it.

209 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 26, 2015 9:56 pm

Ah, sleep will be sweet tonight.

210 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 26, 2015 10:04 pm

211 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 26, 2015 10:06 pm

[189] Yesh. I could do for a game. Maybe June is better. Got a brief Hawaii trip in May.
