Does every former player have to cash in by writing a book? Of course, a headline about some controversy has to be the lead. What a waste of print.

Gosh, that's a beautiful building. Or maybe it's just a beautiful picture.

4 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 6:07 pm

And happy birthday Yogi.

5 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 6:12 pm

Now get me home.

6 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 6:13 pm

[4} Another hit! You remain en fuego!

7 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 6:18 pm

Look at all these yummy hits!

8 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 6:18 pm

Thank you Brian!

9 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 6:20 pm

Carlos!

10 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 6:20 pm

I love these hits!

11 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:23 pm

Homers are fun, but it's nice to bag some runs by singles too.
Although four would have been nicer.

12 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 6:24 pm

[11] Why are you speaking in the future perfect? The inning is still unfolding!

13 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:25 pm

Oy.
A-Rod's legs, very short fly...

14 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 6:26 pm

Rats!

15 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:26 pm

[12] Because I'm prescient.
I can predict baseball.

16 mhoward120   ~  May 12, 2015 6:27 pm

Someone please tell me once again - why did we get Garrett Jones???

17 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:27 pm

Also, was that really future perfect? I think "will have been" is future perfect. Or would have been future perfect.

But then again, English, am I right? Does it even have a future tense?

18 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 6:33 pm

Ha!

19 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 12, 2015 6:33 pm

[17] Good question. I will look it up later at the office.

20 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:33 pm

Oh, very nice!

21 mhoward120   ~  May 12, 2015 6:35 pm

Ya know what? Sometimes the umps are pretty damn good!

22 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:38 pm

Another hit!
Jeez.

23 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 6:38 pm

Another hit!

24 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 6:39 pm

Damn I'm hotter than the sun.

25 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 6:39 pm

[17] Yeah, the second I said it I thought it was wrong. "Shall have been" is probably future perfect.

"Would have been" is maybe perfect subjunctive?

Who can remember these things anymore.

26 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:40 pm

Grrrrrr.

I believe our steal attempts have been counterproductive this year, on the whole.

27 coleman42   ~  May 12, 2015 6:40 pm

[17] What about pluperfect?

28 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:41 pm

[25] Maybe. But does English really have subjunctive nowadays?

(These are rhetorical questions, by the way.)

29 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 6:43 pm

Sigh.

30 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:43 pm

Good lord.

Okay, NO MORE FUCKING STEALS.

I blame Mattpat for this bullshit.

31 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 6:43 pm

I think pluperfect would be "Four had been nicer."

32 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 12, 2015 6:44 pm

[28] we should adopt Chinese grammar. I watch baseball; I watch baseball yesterday; I watch baseball tomorrow. Nice and easy!
Japanese grammar though...yikes..

Maybe they shouldn't be running on Rivera?

33 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:44 pm

Yeah, pluperfect is like perfect but with past tense 'had' instead of 'have'.
It's looking at the past from a past point of view.

34 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 6:45 pm

[30] Laughing

35 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 6:46 pm

[32] Hahahaha! Yes. Nice and easy.

36 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 6:48 pm

John, while Mary had had had had had had had had had a better effect on the teacher.

37 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:50 pm

Someone sprinkled magic pixie dust on our pitchers.

38 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:50 pm

Oh, my apologies.

Someone has sprinkled magic pixie dust on our pitchers.

39 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 12, 2015 6:54 pm

[38] 誰かが私たちの投手にマジックピクシーダストを振りかけました
'someone out pitchers on magic pixie dust has sprinkled.'

40 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 6:57 pm

That play does *not* go "5-3."

Ok, this is getting out of hand.

If they are going to continue to shift the scoring needs to change to reflect that.

To say that play was 5-3 is utterly meaningless and unproductive.

You might just as well score it 12-3.

They need to refigure the scoring system to account for where the ball was actually hit.

41 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:57 pm

Ooooh.
But is there a word corresponding to 'has'? Do you make the perfect tense with an auxiliary verb?

42 RIYank   ~  May 12, 2015 6:59 pm

[40] Yeah, it's an interesting problem, I agree.
The only player on the field who has an official position is the pitcher. For everyone else, it's just score-keeping convenience. The point of scoring the games is to have a record of what happened, which you don't have when you say which guy fielded it, with no correlation to the part of the field the ball traveled to.

43 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 7:02 pm

Positive outlook on Tanaka, according to Meredith.

44 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 7:07 pm

[41] Don't think so.

So now Jones gets a hit.

45 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 7:10 pm

Wow!

Brett!

What a catch!

46 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 7:30 pm

Almost, Didi

47 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 7:35 pm

Phew

48 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 7:57 pm

Game is moving quickly.

49 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 12, 2015 7:59 pm

Seems like they've already played 50 games this year in Tampa Bay. Such a dreadful, depressing stadium.

50 coleman42   ~  May 12, 2015 8:02 pm

Eovaldi is NOT Carl Pavano. Not Carl Pavano. Not...

51 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 8:04 pm

Shit.

52 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 8:04 pm

Dammit!

53 Mattpat11   ~  May 12, 2015 8:09 pm

Garrett Jones fields nothing cleanly, huh?

54 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 8:13 pm

Boo

55 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 8:16 pm

Do not steal Brett.

56 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2015 8:28 pm

I kinda glad Eo started the eighth, but I think he needs to leave the game now.

57 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 8:28 pm

Aggghhh! Fuck.

I don't want to lose this game.

58 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 8:29 pm

(Though I do dig the Hendrix, to be sure.)

59 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2015 8:29 pm

Let's see what Dellin can do with men on base.

60 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 8:31 pm

Aw fuck!

61 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 8:31 pm

sigh

And there's your ballgame, folks.

62 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 12, 2015 8:31 pm

[58] Where did you hear the Hendrix? I got the Rays radio feed, the usual 92.3 K-Rock selection.. The Doors, Faboulous Thunderbirds, etc.

Damn..losing to this team is annoying.

63 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2015 8:32 pm

Remember bases loaded no one out?

64 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 12, 2015 8:32 pm

I got home just in time to see Eovaldi's worst two innings.

65 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 8:34 pm

Oh, for fuck's sake.

66 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2015 8:34 pm

[62] at the stadium, they played "Hey Joe" on the PA when EO left the game.
Circus music time

67 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 8:35 pm

Good Lord!

68 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 8:35 pm

[62] They played "Hey, Joe" when Joe came out to yank Eovaldi.

69 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 12, 2015 8:35 pm

Ugh..

70 Alex Belth   ~  May 12, 2015 8:39 pm

Yanks were due to lose one like this. I think it might be harsh to say that Eovaldi pitched good enough to lose but he did unravel at the end. But the blame here goes on the offense for only getting 2 runs in the first.

71 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 12, 2015 8:39 pm

Brad Boxburger..no relation to Bruce Boxleitner (ex-husband of Laura Ingalls, if I remember correctly?)

72 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 8:40 pm

[70] A-yup.

73 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 8:43 pm

That's a tough loss.

74 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 12, 2015 8:43 pm

Two tears in a bucket then you say fuggit. EO pitched well, and the Rays runs were mostly bad Yankee luck. Just win the series.

75 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 12, 2015 8:44 pm

[70] I blame you for cursing the game before it even began.

76 rbj   ~  May 12, 2015 8:44 pm

Meh. Night all.

77 Alex Belth   ~  May 12, 2015 8:55 pm

75) I'll take the hit. LOL

Just had that bad feeling though I thought Eovaldi was going to be terrible and he was far from it.

78 Alex Belth   ~  May 12, 2015 8:55 pm

3) Bags, a fellow Banterite, is the MAN.
