Warren's gonna be stretched out as a starter. I approve of this move.

We'll be lucky to have a healthy Eo for the playoffs...

2 MSM35   ~  Sep 8, 2015 4:20 pm

Jays have a real overmatch tonight. Young lefty at Fenway against Dickey, who has been great. But you can't predict baseball Susyn.

3 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 6:14 pm

Nice, quick inning. Man, possibly losing Mark & Nathan for the rest of the season sucks.

4 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 6:31 pm

Pretty good for Hiro so far.

5 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 6:32 pm

[2] Henry Owens, the kid we roughed up pretty badly a week or so back. But the run they got in the first was not exactly an Owens problem. HBP, WP, steal, groundout. Could be an interesting game.

6 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 6:33 pm

20 pitches for two innings is good. Pen needs a rest

7 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 6:37 pm

[6] Esp. with two Ks!

8 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 6:49 pm

31 with 4Ks!

9 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 6:50 pm

Now four K and 31 pitches through three!
Cross your fingers and hope he keeps it up.

10 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 6:57 pm

Ooh, cheap little infield hit for McCann.
Take advantage!

11 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:00 pm

Hooray on field equipment

12 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:00 pm

Another break as Wieters drops a pop!
Now Alex really must take advantage...

Nope.

13 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:07 pm

39 and 5 Ks!

14 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:08 pm

Wow.
This is Tanaka's best game in ages. I mean, the O's are definitely cooperating, but it's a beauty.

15 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:13 pm

Hey, here's a thought.
Since Eovaldi will be out for a goodly amount of time, how about giving some of his run support to Tanaka?

Maybe three? Two? Anybody? Bueller?

16 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:16 pm

[15] great idea

17 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:17 pm

Ohhhhhhh.
Oh well.

But keep it together, Hiro.

18 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:19 pm

Ah.
I guess he's okay.

19 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:20 pm

Jeez, I step away for a minute . . .

20 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:21 pm

Oh, man. Wow.
Just unfair.

21 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:22 pm

Oh come on. Are you kidding? That's a hit? Really?

22 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:22 pm

Crap

23 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:26 pm

Well, no damage. Still, a shame to lose the no-no on that garbage.

24 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:27 pm

Phew.

25 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:29 pm

Flash mob the press box and string up the official scorer. #tanakanono

26 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:31 pm

[25] I guess it was the right call by the scorer. It's just a dumb rule. And a shame.

27 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:34 pm

Come on, Carlos, opportunity knocks! Third time through, maybe getting to the pitch count limit, man aboard...

28 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:36 pm

Well, okay, I'll take that.

Come on, Brian, opportunity knocks! Third time through, pitch count in the 90s, two men aboard...

29 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:38 pm

Sigh.

30 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:41 pm

Just tuned in to the birds' tv feed. Blow Jays and sox tied in 5th.

31 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:42 pm

Argh.
Damn.

32 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:43 pm

Maybe I'll switch and watch the Nats beats the mets

33 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:44 pm

Modammit!

34 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:46 pm

It's one-nothing people. Tanaka is pissed. The Yanks would have to score one to win before this inning, now they need two.

35 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:49 pm

Hoo boy.

Maybe we could just not shift anymore.

36 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:49 pm

Challenge!

37 MSM35   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:50 pm

I thought he was safe. Hope I'm wrong.

38 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:50 pm

Yes!

39 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:50 pm

cespades just let a routine single to center with bases loaded go by him for a grand salami! 7-1 nats.

40 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:51 pm

Whew.

41 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:54 pm

Yay-Rod!!!!

42 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:55 pm

Is it my imagination, or does Tanaka get the worst run support on the team. I mean for his whole Yankee career.

43 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:55 pm

Now that's an A-Bomb. (Sorry, Boatzilla.)

44 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:55 pm

Thank you Alex! 30th of the year

45 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:55 pm

[42] I'm almost sure it's true this year, by a wide margin. I doubt it's true for his career.

46 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:56 pm

Alex! Remember when we used to criticize him for hitting meaningless dingers? Seems every one this year ties, takes the lead, or puts the stake in.

47 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 7:59 pm

[46] Yeah, that seems right.

(Only I don't think Banterers actually did criticize him for that. Maybe I'm misremembering. I thought we kind of made fun of people who criticized him for that.)

48 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:01 pm

[43] As long as you don't say it's for Tanaka. ;>)

49 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:02 pm

[46] I think there was some of that, but I always took it as tongue in cheek.

50 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:03 pm

[48] Oh, god, remember when Sterling said it for Matsui? Supercringe. Oof, I can't even think about it.

51 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:06 pm

So it's up to Stephen Drew.

That may be my least favorite sentence in the English language.

52 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:10 pm

Drew does as drew does.

53 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:13 pm

The Shift. Again.

54 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:15 pm

Oh that is beautiful.

55 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:15 pm

Helluva DP!

56 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:15 pm

Put a star on that one.

57 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:15 pm

That's one of the best fielding plays of the year for the Yanks.

58 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:17 pm

Jesus.
Thank god for that DP.

59 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:17 pm

Double play looms large there

60 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:18 pm

C'mon, Masahiro, just one more big out here.

61 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:19 pm

This game is killing me. No margin for error.

62 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:19 pm

Long foul. Yipe.

63 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:19 pm

Excellent.

64 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:20 pm

Hoo boy. He's just about out of gas, looks like.

お願いもう一つだけ!

Got him.

Whew!

65 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:21 pm

Meanwhile, they're still tied at Fenway and into the bullpens. So, no more Dickey, but on the other hand, Boston's bullpen. So I make the odds 3 to 1 in favor of Toronto.

66 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:26 pm

[64] Where'd you learn Nihongo?

Unfortunately, I have to get on a train soon. Looks like I will miss the rally.

67 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:27 pm

[66] I learned it at Google Translate. :-)

68 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:28 pm

Serena won the first set, Venus up 5-1 in the second. Would love to see a Serena Slam.

69 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:32 pm

Oh, right, Serena won the first three this year, didn't she?

When was the last single-year, genuine grand slam in tennis?

70 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:34 pm

Oh, Steffi in 1988, wow. And a long time before that.

71 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:35 pm

[69] Seffi Graff?

72 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:35 pm

Sheffield, 1998? IIRC

Steffi, autocorrect

73 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:35 pm

[70] Grrrr. A second too late.

74 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:36 pm

Yeah, but 1988.

75 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:36 pm

[72] Oooops.

76 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:37 pm

WTF with the infield hits today? Kind of irritating, to say the least.

77 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:38 pm

Hats off to Didi.

78 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:39 pm

Sick play, Didi. Hot Damn!

79 MSM35   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:40 pm

The Sox are showing up. Playing hard with nothing on the line.

80 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:41 pm

Interesting how the "Grand Slam" in golf or tennis doesn't really exist, except in the hearts of the public and media. There's no award that I know of. Is there? Actually, there's no award for most baseball slams (in a season or year) either.

That's why it kind of made sense when Tiger claimed his "Tiger Slam" was still a GS. The year change in Janaury shouldn't interrupt his run if he's still playing golf.

81 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:45 pm

No, I'm sure there's no award or anything. As it should be. Like an undefeated NFL season, or maybe sweeping the MLB playoffs if anyone could ever do it. Your reward is a place in history.

82 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:46 pm

[74] wow, I feel really old.

83 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:46 pm

Oy, this game has heartbreak hotel written all over it.

84 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:47 pm

Wow, there haven't been a whole lot of them in tennis. Steffi, Margaret Court (whom I despise), not even Martina! And for men just Budge and Laver.

85 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:49 pm

[83] Oooh, Belth pessimism is usually good for a run or two!

But it's a drag that having saved our bullpen by going 8 innings, Tanaka can't get the W and might not even have really saved the bullpen. I could see this going 14 innings, yeesh.

86 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:50 pm

Budge & Laver? Talk about old.

87 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:50 pm

Hooboy.
Damn.
Chris Davis, yep.

88 MSM35   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:50 pm

Both games going to the ninth. Both win, both lose. Home teams have the advantage.

89 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:51 pm

Fuck

90 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:51 pm

You could see that coming.

91 MSM35   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:51 pm

Put him to face Davis. Go Sox.

92 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:53 pm

Are you kidding, ANOTHER infield hit?
Maddening.

93 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:53 pm

[83] Thanks a lot Alex.

I was about to say "the reverse jinx is on." Now we'll have to go to "double secret probation."

94 MSM35   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:55 pm

Sox up in ninth. Walkoff please!

95 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:56 pm

Well, Sox go to the bottom of the ninth still tied. Ortiz will bat second...

96 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:56 pm

Getting ugly now.

97 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:56 pm

Can't frickin believe nats have blown 7-1 lead. Now 8-7 mutts

98 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:57 pm

That's it, I'm switching to the Mets. ;>)

99 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:58 pm

Wow, a cool strikemout DP.

Maybe we still have a shot...

100 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:58 pm

Uh. Spoke too soon...

Show/Hide Comments 101-110
101 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 8:58 pm

Strike 'em out, throw 'em out DP!

Walk off win in the cards?

102 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 9:00 pm

Huh. Caught a break there, I'd say.

103 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 9:01 pm

Papi walks with one away.

104 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 9:02 pm

I wonder, pinch run for him? Probably not.

105 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 9:02 pm

Yes, Castillo in to run for Papi!

106 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 9:04 pm

Castillo CS.
Fucking plays.

107 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 9:05 pm

Not looking good.

108 rbj   ~  Sep 8, 2015 9:06 pm

Blergh. Night all.

109 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Sep 8, 2015 9:06 pm

Nite all

110 RIYank   ~  Sep 8, 2015 9:06 pm

Oh well.
What a waste.

I will not stay up for Fenway extras, that's for sure.
Win tomorrow!
