One More Pin, Rodney

kreme

Wouldn’t you know, the Yanks belly-flopped the double header yesterday in Baltimore. Lost the first one 9-2, and the second one, 4-3.

I mean, you just have to laugh. But nuts to that. They win today, they play at the Stadium on Tuesday night. Lose, and its hit the bricks pal and beat it.

Jacoby Ellsbury CF
Brett Gardner LF
Alex Rodriguez DH
Carlos Beltran RF
Brian McCann C
Greg Bird 1B
Chase Headley 3B
Dustin Ackley 2B
Didi Gregorius SS

Yo Big Mike, consider this your first playoff start. How bout it, bout it, huh?

Never mind the scoreboard:

Let’s Go Yank-ees!

[0] That photo is from Ponce de Leon in midtown Atlanta. The building behind it my favorite edifice in the city. The top part is so cool when it's lit up. I've lived close to this area since 1999.

And, of course, I've never had a doughnut in my life...

From the last post, just in case ...
Hope for an Angels win and an Astros loss.
Here are the playoff scenarios with one game left, lifted from The Sporting News, by Nick Canelas.

Thanks to the Angels’ wild comeback win over the Rangers on Saturday, the final day of baseball’s regular season still means something out west.

The Angels, Rangers and the Astros, who beat the Diamondbacks 6-2 Saturday night, will all play on Sunday afternoon with postseason spots on the line. The Rangers, who have already clinched a playoff berth, and Houston are both in contention for the AL West, while the Angels still have a shot at the second wild-card spot.

Here’s the simple breakdown: Texas wins the division with either a win or an Astros loss. Houston clinches a postseason berth with a win over the Diamondbacks or an Angels loss.

However, an Angels win – regardless of Astros’ result – opens up multiple tie-breaking scenarios that would be sorted out in a play-in game Monday. An LA win and Houston win moves the Astros into a tie with the Rangers atop the AL West, while a Houston loss coupled with an Angels win moves those two teams into a tie for the second wild-card spot.

Here’s out the tiebreakers shake out:

What happens if the Astros and Angels tie for the wild card?

The Astros would host the Angels in a tiebreaker Monday thanks to a 10-9 season-series win. The winner would play the Yankees in New York in Tuesday’s wild-card game.

What happens if the Rangers and Astros tie for the AL West?

The Rangers would host the Astros in a tiebreaker Monday thanks to a 13-6 season-series win. The winner advances to the ALDS while the loser plays the Yankees in Tuesday’s wild-card game.

What happens if the Rangers and Astros tie, and the Yankees finish with the same record?

Sunday is also an important day for the Yankees. New York would finish at 87-75 with a loss to the Orioles, giving them the same record as the Astros and Rangers. Both AL West squads won the season series over the Yankees, meaning the loser of Monday’s game would host Tuesday’s wild-card game.

astros losing 1-0

21 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:33 pm

Perspective. The Yankees deserve having to win an away WC game. Why should they take advantage of any advantage?

The only bummer personally is that we have tickets for the game on Tuesday.

22 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:36 pm

that's one back!

i really like this Bird kid.

23 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:36 pm

[21] yeah, my brother has a ticket for tuesday also.

24 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:37 pm

nice hitting and running, sir didi!

25 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:38 pm

c'mon, rbj - tie the game!

26 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:39 pm

shoulda swung at the 2-0. why wouldn't he? perfectly straight and hit-able fastball.

27 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:40 pm

Bleh, I stink.

28 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:43 pm

Ellsbury, Gardner, McCann, Arod...in the top 10 worst batting average for the second half this year(200 minimum plate appearances). Wonder why this is such a struggle?

29 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:43 pm

nice play, bird.

30 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:46 pm

phew and whew.

that was better. fewer pitches.

31 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:50 pm

jesus, brett. just terrible.

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2015 2:50 pm

Atta boy, Brett. You're looking real sharp.

33 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:11 pm

This is some joyless bullshit.

34 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:12 pm

Get Dustin in!

35 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:13 pm

Nice hustle.

36 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:14 pm

Good eye, there, Didi, hang tough...

37 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:16 pm

We'll take it!

C'mon, Ellsbury. You're supposed to be the Man.

38 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:17 pm

C'mon, me.

39 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:18 pm

Mo fuck this fucking shit!

40 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:18 pm

Lame.

41 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:18 pm

Fucking horrible.

42 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:23 pm

Take your time, Carlos.

43 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:29 pm

Did we just see Chris Capuano getting loose? SMH.

I just don't get it anymore...

44 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:32 pm

that's a big strike 'em out.

45 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:35 pm

god fucking DAMN IT!!!

46 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:35 pm

49 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:36 pm

50 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:37 pm

[46] Them's got three of 'em.

51 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:38 pm

Big Mike came up small today. oi.

52 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:39 pm

oh my god. you've gotta be kidding me.

53 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:39 pm

No matter what, there is another game on Tuesday. Girardi's last for the Yankees?

54 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:39 pm

where the fuck is stephen drew?!?! ; )

55 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:40 pm

this IBB should draw out RI.

so, put a guy on base to face a dude who has like 7 hits in a row against us...

56 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:41 pm

[53] GI Joe isn't going anywhere.

57 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:41 pm

houston's threatening...

58 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:41 pm

[54] Concussion symptoms, chronic dizziness.

59 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:44 pm

Of course.

60 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:44 pm

Train is off the rails. Fucking Orioles. Go diamondbacks.

61 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:44 pm

good job, cappy.

pretty terrible frame for dustin in the field too.

this is an incredible bunch of fucking bollocks.

62 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:45 pm

[46] Check that...they got 5.

63 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:45 pm

[58] oh, i know. i was being facetious...

he has good #s vs. tillman and would've been better afield that frame.

64 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:46 pm

Parra was safe.

65 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:46 pm

oh, review. great.

i thought he was safe live. the way this is going, it'll get reversed and they'll score two more...

66 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:48 pm

i'm surprised.

also, astros have the bases loaded w/ 1 out...

67 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:49 pm

he was totally safe...

houston now tied it up. fuck.

68 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:53 pm

Why does it seem every Yankee AB is about lifting the ball for the fences. Even Gardner, what happened to his long at bats, slapping the ball, using his speed? The team seems to have lost the plot at the plate.

69 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:57 pm

that sucked.

70 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2015 3:59 pm

I'm running out of fucks to give.

71 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:00 pm

The fucked up thing is that nobody gets mad. No emotion. This team is a bloodless, joyless, amalgamation. It starts at the top.

72 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:05 pm

normally, i would be pissed about the leadoff walk but i figured machado would go yard, so i guess this is a better alternative.

73 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:05 pm

You know that empty feeling of the end of the season after investing hundreds of hours following the team. The Yankees are making it easier to let go this year.

74 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:06 pm

Get the plane tickets.

75 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:07 pm

not shocked at all by that.

snakes up 3-2. i really hope they win. i am certainly not above backing in to home field.

76 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:12 pm

Obviously, Joe is saving Warren for Tuesday's game.
Conceding this game, if the DBacks can't hold on to win over Astros, not having the WC game in NY costs the Yankee Organization millions of dollars.

77 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:14 pm

I am assuming that Joe is saving the bullpen for the game after the next one - which will be the first Spring Training game.

78 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:34 pm

Finally...someone gets mad. Gardner frustrated by his lousy hitting or his perceived bad strike call by the umpire?

79 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:44 pm

of course, houston tied it up...

fuck.

80 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:48 pm

It's still doable, but the team is lifeless.

81 MSM35   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:54 pm

Paul Goldschmitt is that it. Love him for now!

82 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:54 pm

Me love Goldschmidt

83 MSM35   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:55 pm

Can we borrow him?

84 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:55 pm

It's only a flesh wound.

85 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:55 pm

Goldy! he is so awesome. watched him destroy a pitch last night.

86 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 4:58 pm

John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt!

And let's go...

87 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:00 pm

Tying run at the plate

88 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:01 pm

a game tying granny would rule.

ack is just the guy to do it!

89 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:03 pm

remember all those 3-run jacks we hit?

let's do that again right fucking NOW!

90 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:06 pm

Crud. Still, a three run jack next inning would be awesome.

91 MSM35   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:20 pm

Arizona has a player named Socrates Brito. All-name team.

92 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:32 pm

well, we don't have to go to Houston but we will be facing Dallas on Tuesday. he'll be pitching on 3 days rest.

93 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:33 pm

we can't get this fucking guy out.

94 MSM35   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:34 pm

Home against Astros. Please either Ellsbery or Gardner not both against the Houston lefty. I know $ talks but show some guts sir.

95 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:34 pm

I always had faith. I knew the Yankees could back door into winning WC home field advantage.

96 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:34 pm

8 pitch tune-up for andrew.

97 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:39 pm

good job with the pitching change.

98 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:39 pm

Wonders! A game in the Bronx on Tuesday. Back that Bus in the spot!

99 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:43 pm

unbelievable. what a bad at-bat by noel.

100 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:45 pm

and a terrible a-b by sanchez.

101 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:46 pm

Don't have to worry about the offense cooling off by Tuesday. yay.

102 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:50 pm

Hey yose.

I couldn't banter, and I could barely even follow the game this afternoon. Just as well.

The team appears to suck now. But, you never know.

And can I just say, I really don't give a fuck whether they deserve to have a home game. I want the fucking home game, I'm glad they get it. There's no desert in baseball. Or dessert, there's no dessert in baseball either.
Or crying. Or "I", there is no "I" in "baseball".

See yose Tuesday!

103 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2015 5:55 pm

Ah, thelarmis has never eaten a doughnut.
What a surprise.

104 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 6:03 pm

[103] i also won't be here on tuesday. well, i will in spirit. first day of the new quarter. as of now, there's a slight possibility i'll be able to check in toward the end from my phone, but we'll see...

105 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2015 7:02 pm

[102] hmmm. Who youse talking too, perfesser?

I'm happy, one more game I get to go to Yankee Stadium. I was privileged to attend the Aaron Boone game. You think it will be like that?

106 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 4, 2015 8:39 pm

[104] In the meantime have a doughnut. It won't kill ya. I recommend a jelly doughnut, or your basic glazed, French cruller.

Oh man, that does it. I'm going to Krispy Kreme today. There's one near my office that never crowded. In fact, Krispy Kreme is so popular in Japan that nobody goes there anymore. (RIP Yogi).

107 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2015 9:15 pm

[106] you can have mine, boat! seriously, they just don't appeal to me in the slightest.
