Sucks, just got laid off this afternoon, due to budget cuts

2 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:12 pm

rbj, that does suck!
Sorry, dude.

3 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 9, 2017 6:12 pm

1 Oh man, so so sorry to hear that...hope you find something else soon. Looks like someone else lost their job today too as I open my Twitter news feed this morning...

4 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:14 pm

Gary Franchise!!!

5 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 6:16 pm

Thanks guys.

Nice, Gary

6 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:17 pm

[3] Well, yeah, but that was well-deserved, and self-inflicted. I am just going to assume that rbj didn't cause the budget problems leading to his own layoff...

7 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 9, 2017 6:19 pm

6 Hah, I am not up to date on the minutia of everything going on, seeing a lot of Nixon-Trump photos on Twitter now though, which is funny. Anyhoo...SANCHIZE! Man, if he is back, this lineup...

8 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 6:19 pm

Rbj - sorry to hear that! Hipefully you land something soon. I was laid off two years ago and still looking for a solid landing spot.

9 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 6:20 pm

[6] Yeah, just low enrollment

10 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:21 pm

E4.

11 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:23 pm

[7] Yeah, well. We're not supposed to talk much about stuff like that here, but you can take my word for it. (As I recall we tend to see eye to eye about this kind of thing.)

Man, I just take my continued employment for granted. I should stop from time to time and remember how lucky I am in that respect.

My wife has been laid off twice, but temporarily both times.

12 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 6:24 pm

I guess with headley sitting Castro felt somebody had to whiff on a ball.

13 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:26 pm

This is a little scary considering CC's long ball tendencies this year.
And just as I was typing that, yikes. Just missed an Earl Weaver Play.

14 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:27 pm

Yay!
Okay, Torreyes can be useful, I admit it.

15 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 6:28 pm

GAB is a small park

16 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:32 pm

Gre-glorious!

17 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:33 pm

Base runners for the next one, please.

18 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 6:35 pm

Happy to see didi get a dinger. Strange game so far. Nothing or home run it seems.

19 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 9, 2017 6:40 pm

15 Something about this park I dont like, maybe that it faces the country rather than a city view? *BTW, I&M not making typos, this keyboard am on is doing Exorcist things with weird malfunctions..()

20 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:41 pm

Hm.
We may need a lot of solo homers tonight.

21 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 6:45 pm

Shit

22 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:46 pm

Inevitable.

23 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 6:48 pm

CC really struggling lately.

24 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:50 pm

We're witnessing the ungreat end of a great career.

25 Greg G   ~  May 9, 2017 6:53 pm

I wonder if CC is hurt?

After a hot start, he has been pitching like crap. He might not get out of the 2nd.

26 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 6:56 pm

Finally

27 Boatzilla   ~  May 9, 2017 6:56 pm

Sorry to hear your news RBJ. I hope you find something soon.

Looks like the Bombers are lined up for another miraculous comeback.

28 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 9, 2017 6:57 pm

24 A shame, I wanted to see CC in the HOF. Great career regardless...maybe still time to go Frank Tanana for a few years, crafty finesse-y lefty?

29 Boatzilla   ~  May 9, 2017 6:58 pm

[3] What's happening? I'm avoiding Twitter.

30 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 6:59 pm

Hah!

Steal!

31 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 7:00 pm

[29] FBI director out

32 Boatzilla   ~  May 9, 2017 7:00 pm

That was ball 4, CC.

33 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 7:01 pm

[29] James Comey was fired.
If I start going into the story I will inject editorial comments, which Alex has specifically asked us not to do, so I won't.
But the 538 blog has a little podcast to fill you in, if you feel like it.

34 Boatzilla   ~  May 9, 2017 7:02 pm

[31] Holy Fuck! Well, we can't talk about this. Thanks for the info.

35 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 7:02 pm

Bleh.

36 Boatzilla   ~  May 9, 2017 7:05 pm

[33] Cheers. Will check it out.

37 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 7:09 pm

Easy inning.
Can't predict baseball.

38 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 7:16 pm

Put one in the river, Aaron

39 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 7:17 pm

This must not be Judgment Day.

40 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 7:17 pm

Okay, well, one is better than none.

41 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 7:18 pm

Good, Didi

42 Boatzilla   ~  May 9, 2017 7:19 pm

We'll take it!

43 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 7:19 pm

all i want is for carter to get on so CC can be the last out. Actually CC can hit a little, but still. Pitchers batting...

44 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 9, 2017 7:20 pm

[1] That sucks. Best of luck to you.

45 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 7:21 pm

oh well.

46 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 7:28 pm

[27], [44] Thanks, it's a bit unreal at the moment but I'm already updating the resume and will be applying to a couple of places by early next week. Have three months severance

47 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 7:33 pm

Boo, blue

48 Boatzilla   ~  May 9, 2017 7:34 pm

Man, those jalapeños on my pizza last night were a mistake. I blame Jazz!

49 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 7:39 pm

gary is just pounding that guy

50 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 7:55 pm

Ouch

51 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 9, 2017 7:57 pm

In Ronald I trust.

52 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 9, 2017 7:57 pm

Shite.

53 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 7:58 pm

ugh not a great at bat there from Ronald. Bummer.

54 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 8:15 pm

Dang, that was ball four and it wasn't close, Gary.

55 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 8:18 pm

[54] mostly annoying because wasn't that the same pitch that was ball 3? Maybe not?

56 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 8:18 pm

A 5-1 road trip isn't bad

57 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 8:22 pm

Dellin looking a little lost.
Eight straight balls.

58 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 8:26 pm

Rothschild is obviously a genius.

59 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 8:29 pm

If only Larry had gone out to the mound with Dellin at the beginning of the inning!

60 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 8:30 pm

Yeesh.
That was a Sterling inning. Can't predict baseball.

61 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 8:30 pm

Haha omg let's go dancin!

62 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 8:31 pm

Three Ks!

63 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 8:44 pm

Oh, Jake.
Well, it's an H. Still.

64 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 8:50 pm

Two bloops and a blast

65 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 8:51 pm

O's have tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, dammit.
Too early to start worrying about first place, I guess.

66 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 8:57 pm

[64] How about BBs instead of Bloops?

67 Boatzilla   ~  May 9, 2017 8:58 pm

This is what we want.

68 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 8:59 pm

[68] I'll take it, it's not like I have a job to go to in the morning.

69 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 9:00 pm

Er, [66]. Yes, I have been drinking

70 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 9:00 pm

Ooooooh.
Well, good swing, Sanchize.

O's in extras. Maybe we hold on to first place...
BoSox getting beaten up by the Brew Crew.

71 seamus   ~  May 9, 2017 9:01 pm

Damn. Hammered that.

72 RIYank   ~  May 9, 2017 9:02 pm

[69] Bottoms up!

See you tomorrow. Or, no, Thursday, in Houston...

73 rbj   ~  May 9, 2017 9:02 pm

Blergh.

74 BobbyB   ~  May 9, 2017 9:03 pm

CC is going to be an albatross all year.

75 thelarmis   ~  May 9, 2017 10:43 pm

rbj - so very sorry to hear : (

I teach at a small music college and our enrollment is dangerously low. Scary...

Best of luck, mate!

76 thelarmis   ~  May 9, 2017 10:44 pm

I was pretty confident we were gonna come back and win tonight. It's kinda cool that this team is making me feel that way...

77 seamus   ~  May 10, 2017 8:11 am

[76] I felt comfortable until the end. And to be fair, that liner is 3 feet away and that's bases loaded if not a run with Castro coming up. What I liked about that game is that we gave ourselves a number of chances. And while we didn't drive in the runs last night, I walk away believing in this team (with tempered expectations ha!).

78 seamus   ~  May 11, 2017 7:59 am

We are back to having best record in baseball as well as the best run differential. There is nothing like a day off apparently!

79 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  May 11, 2017 12:26 pm

I was at the Nats game last night vs. the O's. O's dominated, Nats looked so bad I left in the bottom of the 7th, only to see that the Nats won as I arrived back home. Of course, that didn't really help us DC fans, with the Caps committing their usual spring suicide, and the Wiz playing like they usually do in Boston.
