Jeez, this is a better start than many of us anticipated—winning close games (Aaron Judge with a walk-off homer last night against a cement-mixer; Gleyber Torres with 5 RBI this afternoon) and giving a promising and exciting Mets team a run for the town’s attention. Something good for the time being in this cockamamie world.
Didn't see any of today's game. Let the good times roll.
Napped during Gleyber’s homer, walked the terrorists during his other knock.
It's kind of strange. Since we, as a group, always seem to look for the worst in our beloved Yanks, it's hard to feel any confidence. OTOH, as pointed out in the WashPo this AM, every time the Yanks have started with the record they now have, they've gone on to hoist the WS trophy! Of course, for most of those times, the only round of playoffs was the WS itself. Nevertheless, it is encouraging to see them excel in virtually all elements of the game. (I would love to see them squeeze bunt, especially against the shift!).
Who are these "Mets" that you speak of?
Evening, Team.
I accept the two-run homer!
[6] I accept it too.
Okay, I think that's sufficient: it counts.
Hmm.
The Louis Gill Experiment.
Home just in time to see a 2 run lead vanish in 5 minutes. Sigh.
I am definitely accepting the triple.
Holy shit.
Although it seems like kind of a waste to homer right after a triple.
Still, I'm going to accept it!
Just needed to wait another 5 minutes. Unsigh. Whoo--hoo!
Stanton was all arms with that dinger.
Amazing.
I’m really starting to enjoy this season, despite some of the players on the team. Is Gallo at all tradeable? I like him as a person, but he seems like a definite Javy V type who’d excel more easily elsewhere.
Donaldson not impressing much to date, but the D is solid.
Booooooooooooooo! Catch the Fucking pop up. Little leaguers do it!
Kboooooom!
Bullpen fail.
[20] to be fair, they were due. It’s basically a 1.5 inning game right now. Or free baseball.
Jeez, pitchers are just going at Gallo right now.
WWWOOOWWW!!!
Two run IF single! Amazing.
A Rizzo bomb would ice this cake.
There's the icing!
Wow! Chapman proof.
Woooo!
That YES shot of the home crowd leaving in a hurry was savage/priceless.
Yes, that shot was brutal!
I love that overhead shot.
I say trade Hicks, and bring back Gritner...
Glad to see Gallo dink in that single. Every little bit helps.
[30] please no. Gardner earned every minute of his retirement.
That said, the fact that the only reliable OF we have are two tight end sized sluggers does give pause.
O'Neill is actually turning into a good broadcaster.
[33] Yeah, Paulie's all right.
Stanton's in monster mode.
I approve of Stanton hitting two run homers.
[36] I won't even call City Hall to complain.
That first inning was a whole novel.
Just bummed this was an 8pm start because I’m coaching six year old twins soccer at 8am tomorrow.
I know! That's exactly what it was.
Both this motherfuckers routinely hit monster shots the other way.
Breathtaking to behold.
Judge and Stanton locked in at the same time feels a bit like the old description of the Ruth/Gehrig teams: Score four in the first and then gradually pull away.
Apologies if I’m not typing that old bromide with complete accuracy.
[41] The tack-on runs just make me so happy.
Got tickets for Sunday's game. Last Yankee game that I went to, Nick Swisher (and 2 others) hit a homer at the stadium to beat the Phillies.
Great, Yankees going to lose 1-0
Paul O'Neill casually talking about hitting 500 in HS and then getting drafted. I wish. Lol...
This game is going slow AF.
I wish someone would do a study on why certain pitchers get little-to-no run support.
Monty has suffered this in other seasons as well.
Straight up shit luck. Or maybe nobody likes Jordan. ; )
[48] I was thinking it could have something to do with a pitcher's pacing. If they work slower, the guys are standing around longer and it's longer between at-bats, etc.
25 runs the last two games, tonight, bupkus.
Very interesting.
I hate Chapman.
Fucking Bollocks!
Terrible terrible AB by Donaldson.
So double digit runs today?
I’ll take that.
And that.
That as well.
Rats, shutout gone.
Gallo with the insurance!
Yay, nice win!
Nice and easy!
That was an interesting game to attend. We got to our seats at the end of the first inning. The Yankees only had base runners in the 2nd inning and 9th inning. Their pitchers looked really good. Fortunately Nestor was on fire and had a few nice plays by Donaldson. He looked a bit shaky in the eighth, but got through it. We left with 2 outs in the 9th but stopped to watch Gallo's ab. Glad we got to see that before we took off.
Stuck with the Orioles broadcast.
We better get that low strike too, Blue.
Evening, Team!
Let's kick some ass in Baltimore now.
[63] Donaldson was on fire yesterday, to be sure.
Bal'more hasn't been as as awful as predicted, certainly several other worse teams out there (hello Reds!). Always like games at Camden Yards, most beautiful place to watch a game alongside Dodger Stadium.
Nerts
You know what I love about playing Bal'more?
Ok, I'll tell you!
I've been rewatching The Wire so it's nice to see the two worlds coming together. :)
Joey!
I could see that happening in slow motion the way he was bumbling towards that ball.
sigh
[70] I watched The Wire for the first time just a couple months ago! It finally hit the streaming services here in Japan, was incredible! (except season 5, that was big mistake..)
Gleyber! Noice.
Wow, not even a run.
[73] Yeah, it's amazing. The writing is just incredibly tight. And it's so funny.
Season 5 was the newspaper season, right? Yeah, that was the weak link, for sure.
[73] The whole season? Frankly, I can't remember...the all run together to me.
Omar Little was the best character, IMHO.
[75] Not even a run.
[77] RIP
Wowza! What getting out of that inning scoreless just lucky?
(or good Karma?)
Hicks is just awful.
Huzzah to The Wire.
Go Yankees!
[81] Should I call Gritner?
Why did the O's make that huge change to LF?? Looks strange.
[84] They thought the juiced ball was here to stay.
Giancarlo!
...but learn how to run the bases.
Anyone else notice that Stanton was running with his eyes closed?
Check out Trevino!!
HA!
(laughing--remember back in the olden days? When Alex yelled "HA!"? those were fun times.)
Cameron needs to talk a little less, IMHO. He has insightful nuggets, but he blathers on about each point until it's worn out.
[90] He'll learn. :)
[89] Ha! I remember it well. The zaniest narrative from that scenario was that he somehow interfered with the player. Imagine an NBA player suggesting something similar.
5-30-2007 lol...
https://youtu.be/x9NSSCzrnRw
[89] In retrospect, everyone was way too hard on A-Rod. Guess he brought some of it on himself, but still..
[93] Thanks for sharing. He probably said more but so what? Own your fuck up.
The Yankees don't win the 2009 Serious without Alex. He is, was, and will always be a goof. Doesn't bother me any. : )
[94] He tried to glean his image too carefully and it came across as affected, and that irked people.
Harold Reynolds when he started at ESPN was awful. But he’s turned into a very good in studios analyst. Not very good in the broadcast booth.
Joey Gallo is not very good at baseball.
I guarantee you, next time he hits a homer, everyone at YES will talk about it like it's the second coming and he's turned a corner, blah, blah, blah....
Question to Banterites.
Jose Trevino.
In the booth they are pronouncing it "Treviño" but I haven't seen a tilde over the "n" in print.
What gives?
Batters looking for heat on 3-2 and he's dropping hooks. No chance.
[93] Omg, it's as funny as the day it happened.
God, that was so fucking funny!
And hats off to Kenny! How the hell did he know what happened?
[94] Commission a portrait of yourself as a centaur and people are going to get the creeps a little bit maybe. :)
[100] I'd tell you but I'd have to kill you.
Oh no, the 'running out the ground ball is real hustle' BS...really hate when the announcers go on about that.
Hahahahahahahah!
[105] That's a Kay Trope.
They'll never touch the real Charlie Hustle. Pete used to sprint to first on walks.
[104] This is the kinda stuff that keeps me up at night.
Damn! Rizzo is good!
Cameron is kindly saying, "anyone but Chapman."
Hey Weeping, David Simon has a current show on HBO titled, "We Own this City." It's no "The Wire" but it's damn good. Catch it in 10 years!
; )
Yaayyyyy!!!
Donaldson en fuego!
We sometimes forget...
https://youtu.be/XX2sA4wS-g8
[108] laughing
[109] That was a nice, short swing.
[11] I know! I'm looking forward to watching it! (In ten years. Hahahahah!)
Chapman proof?
[113] Great stuff.
Another great win, Team!
Yankees - Angels ALCS? Then a Subway Series? Sox in last place at home with management counting their Liverpool FC trophies?
Alright, let’s win tonight.
I don’t mind trying to stretch that to a triple.
No one on Baltimore can even reach the warning track, so why not move the fences back so the opponents have a harder time.
[120] I mind. You do that with one out, not no outs.
He was only out because he overslid.
Dammit.
Evening, Team.
Damn. Nice hitting, Urias.
Don't worry. We'll get it back.
Much better, Judge.
Hot garbage double from Odor. Grrrr....
Sigh.
Grumble
That Judge out looms large at the moment.
For no reason other than that it never gets old:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6cmqUTPn08&t=4s
Dear non Judges, get on base before him.
Amazing. Kabooooom!
Omg, Judge.
Can you believe this fucking guy?
I’ll take that
Me too.
We have the lead.
Back in the day, infielders got in front of the ball, and if there was a bad hop, took it off the chest. These days, it seems guys are afraid of getting in front of the ball, even when they have time.
I hate Chapman!
JFC, Chapman! Get it it over with already. Hang another slider since you don't know where the fastball Is going.
Had it all the way. Lol....
Interwebs problems today.
Evening, Team.
It's going to be a good night.
Ya don't see that every day.
No. You don't.
It's really really fun to watch so many of our guys going up there and actually hitting. Bringing the hands in, going down and getting the ball, hitting it the other way...
They're not just swinging wildly hoping to run into one. They're actually hitting up there. And it's beautiful.
Lame. 3-2 game in 6th with Cole on the bump. Blech.
Cole looked sharp heading into the sixth, struggled a bit.
This is basically a four man lineup for the Yankees tonight (2-5) with Hicks at the top and then Gallo, IKF, Marwin, and Trevino to round it out.
Another win.
Unearned, but a win nonetheless.
The juggernaut keeps rollin' on.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxGEVIvSFeY
At this point I'm always surprised when the bullpen falters, but I'm never surprised when Chad Green falters.
Wow. Maybe it's not a bad thing for multiple relievers to struggle in the same game. At least it's only one loss.
I just decided I'm going to zip on over to the Stadium to check out Nestor today. I haven't been to a game in years and I'm excited!
Going to be a scorcher out there. I was already sick yesterday from the heat.
Ah, Armed Forces Day.
Yay, Falafel!
Le Machine!
At the Stadium. That salami was awesome. The crowd went nuts!
Boo
Nestor’s off-speed pitch looks sweet from up here.
Uh oh, no need for that
Man.
Somehow we still have the lead, though.
It’s suddenly a ballgame.
I had a thought:
Next year, they may implement automated Strike/Ball calls.
If so, the whole concept of 'Catcher framing pitches' goes out the window. Certain guys will lose value, and certain guys (like Gary Sanchez) will be on equal footing. Is this a big change to the game... and does that render our Catchers useless????
Wanted more than one there.
[161] interesting thought.
My, how Chapman has fallen.
Nice!
[161] I heard someone on MLB radio yesterday talking about the problems with robo calls in the minors. Pitches in the dirt and head high being called strikes because they crossed over the plate. Yikes. I always think about the amazing technology tennis utilizes on close line calls. It happens instantaneously and leaves no doubt as to whether a ball was in or out. WTF can't baseball have something like that?
[151] Weeping, I've never been to the NYS, what did you think of it?
[152] When isn't it in MLB?
Catching up on the Josh Donaldson - Tim Anderson kerfuffle. Like to give people fair hearings always, but JD does seem to get into a lot of isht with opposing players..
I'm going full out crazy here.
Hicks has 3.8/$38m left on his contact.
Let some team have him for 3.8/$8m.
He can be moved to a shit team for that.
THEN BRING BACK GARDY.
Even if he has a .600 OPS, his still well above average
speed and defense, and clubhouse presence, make him a better choice than Hicks.
PLUS... I love the guy.
YANKEE FOR LIFE!
Doesn't happen often these days.
Hicks has been a black hole thus far, but I would far rather have him on the roster for the next 3.75 years than see one more Gardner at bat in pinstripes. Gardner, much as he contributed and spanned Yankee eras, was DONE. He overstayed by a year but thankfully given the Yanks lack of real challenge for a WS, it was not super apparent/important that BG was not a contributor anymore.
Afternoon, Team.
I am with knuckles, Gardner was a good Yankee for a long time, but having him on the roster makes Boone do stupid things like batting him 1st or 2nd. He was fine when he was batting 9th and playing 1/3rd of games, but he was often batting much earlier and playing a lot more.
Not impressed by Donaldson if what Anderson says is true.
Green going down is no bueno.
Judge is locked in. Let’s snag this win and the nightcap.
Crazy finish to the English soccer season today. Not sure if anyone here are following.
I root for Man City (Pep is the most inspirational coach I’ve ever seen) and Leeds (my wife is from York), so today was a wild one.
Gary Lives! Wtf! Chapman is toast.
Bad Chapman today. I liked our chances going into the ninth tied.
Good start, Sevy.
Give Judge the money, just not the years. 8 max.
They can't challenge that?
I guess not.
Hmm, possible Achilles injury for Chapman.
Nasty Sevy!
[172] Followed in and off in years past but not recently. Man City with the miracle comeback today is what you mean? Was all over BBC news this morning.
Is Kopeck going to through and perfect game tonight??
Houdiniesque.
How about some runs?
A hit! And now I have to go walk the terrorists.
Rbj, me too, my little dauchs has a loose stomach last few days
[184] Ugh. They got some filet mingion tidbits and broccoli a long with their Sunday dinner kibble. Hannah puked three times, on good oriental rugs. Steam cleaning should get the stains out, but I think the heat got to her. I was nauseous all day Friday. 90+ isn’t pleasant.
Le sigh.
2 great pitching performances going up in smoke today due to offense going into hibernation mode. Fucking Bollocks!
12 base runners is bound to blow up at some point.
Now the number of runs matches up with the base runners.
Well, it’s over. Night all.
Evening, Team!
All rise
It's amazing how fluid that motherfucker's swing is. And it's like all upper body.
Well, there goes that lead
Not a fan of that inning. Yeesh.
Brutal.
Truly brutal.
Beautiful, Judge.
Here comes The Judge! X2
Un-fucking-believable.
Show him the money!
Le sigh .
Cole is killing us tonight.
Killing us.
Why bring up Andujar and not let him it in this situation? It's mind-numbing.
Bullshit
Let’s go Gumby
Rizzo! Upper deck
Slugging Trevino
Gleyber joins the party. Psst, have some guys on base next time
This is all such horse shit.
Um, taking the terrorists out for their last walk shouldn’t invoke a jinx.
Oh, goodie. Hix with a chance to win it.
He looks like complete garbage swinging right handed. Egads.
