Game Two gives a rare afternoon playoff game in the Bronx.
Yanks looking to stay ahead of the Guardians and not turn this into some kind of soggy, misbegotten weekend of horrors in Cleveland.
Never mind the doubts:
Let’s Go Yank-ees!

I don't even really know how much I pay for the MLB package, but I feel like it should be enough to include the postseason. In fact, if they raised the price another twenty-five bucks and included the postseason (probably a better financial decision for them) I would neither notice nor care.
But instead they've put the playoff games behind another paywall and asked me to pay $24.99 to watch on-line. (I'm at work.) That's bothersome enough, but you know what else they're offering? If you buy the postseason package, they're also throwing in (wait for it) the 2023 preseason games for free! I mean, I don't even know where to begin with that.
That's like...
That's like dining at Tavern on the Green and being handed a coupon for a free 7-Eleven hotdog on the way out the door. It's not surprising that MLB does stupid things like this, it's surprising that apparently no one in the decision-making circles realizes that it's stupid.
RIP Bruce Sutter.
What a fucking asshole. I hate that kid now.
They better get a triple fucking play right here. I don’t have time for this bollocks today.
I’ll take it!!!
Gleyber with an ugly ‘excuse me’ type swing with no legs resulted in a hit and Darling called it a ‘nice swing’. Oy.
Wow. Fuck guy, Blue.
Ha!
Atta Boy, Stanton! Better than the walk!!!
2-0
Ump should miss more calls.
I like how this is going now!!
[1] Hank, I could not agree more. MLB has an amazing product with MLB.TV but wow are they equally amazing at screwing over their most dedicated customers in the dumbest ways. The message I'm hearing from MLB is simply, "We don't care about you." Craig Calcaterra pointed out in his newsletter last week how they let a clip run on MLB Network that totally botched the facts around Hank Aaron's 715th home run. Pride goeth before the fall.
Tough to hate Mackenzie after those miked moments.
Sticks is the guest on R2C2 this week and was great. He was awesome on Coney’s Toeing The Slab pod earlier on the season. He’s originally from Brooklyn, though he grew up in Florida. Was originally going to be a doctor (surgeon)! All that said, I hope we knock him out early in Game 3!
For those watching, any thoughts on what you're seeing from Judge so far?
Darling - Rizzo beat the throw by quite a bit. Not ‘just’ made it. Want game is he watching?
Would love to plate these runners…
Fuck off, Blue
DAMMIT!!! He laced that. Fuck that kid. He’s a really good player.
Injury delay???
Let’s go. Bad throw. Get a DP quick
Naylor’s foot. He’s taking too long…
thelarmis, you are doing the lord's work.
That sucked. I blame Costas. Guess Naylor’s foot is fine. Judge’s throw was terrible. What’s up with him…
Hank - I have to get ready for an early outdoor gig, so I won’t be able to watch or post the whole game.
Ha! No problem at all. Thanks for all these updates!
With 2 strikes, Costas talked about how Cleveland hadn’t had a hit with RISP. I got pissed. Next pitch, run scoring single.
Phew, could have been bad.
Now more runs please.
Add that to the Nestor highlight real
My biggest issue with John Sterling is that he loses his mind when something positive happens ("It is high... It is far..."), but when something negative happens, it's as if he's telling us about a foul ball. ("And that's a homer to left, and now the Yankees are down by five.") It's maddening.
NASTY NESTOR!!! Athletic play if the year!!!
Bases juice. High ground ball back up the box. He jumps and reaches high off the slope of the mound. Didn’t even finish his follow through. Gloves it beautifully, falls on his side, bounces a perfect throw to Rizzo. Inning over!!!
And now -- shocker -- he's talking about predicting baseball. "I'd like to see the people who think you can predict baseball!" In general, I don't mind him, but these are the things that grate on me a bit.
[30] Yeah, Sterling didn't tell us about any of that. He mentioned that it was a hard hit ball, he told us about the bounced throw, but don't you think he'd include something about LEAPING TO MAKE THE PLAY?? Crazy.
Bieber is now settled. I wonder if Nestor goes back out…
That Kwan catch on JD’s liner really sucked. Two runs right there…
Nestor in to face the top of the order for the third time. One down.
Shit
FUCK. Rosario just tied the game with a shot to dead center. FUCK
Sigh.
I can't watch or even listen.
Hank, I get mlb.tv free from my T-Mobile phone plan, so I don't feel like I can complain... but it really does seem nickel-and-dime to charge extra for the playoffs. Maybe next year they'll ask us to buy a special enhanced package if we want to watch extra innings.
J-Ram 0-3
[30] So I just saw the highlight of Nestor's play. He threw while on the ground??? Sterling didn't mention that either.
Yeah, I’m really handcuffed not being able to watch this game on my phone. I have sooo much to do in the next hour before heading to my gig, but have to be by the tv downstairs. Gonna have to switch to Sterling soon…
How did he hit that? Jeez
Please get through this inning tied…
Strike this fucker out
I’ll take it. Nestor through 5. I’m out for a bit…
hello! iet's go yankees!
Well walking the terrorists didn’t work.
Maybe a lot to expect Carp to suddenly produce. But I was hopeful.
the IKF inning
Nice leap, Falafel
c'mon Judge!
Late to the party. Judge needs to call that old guy who figured out how to get his swing in orde.
[47] I was thinking the same thing. Pinch hitting must be hard enough, but imagine doing it after a two-month break! And in case you're wondering, stealing glances at Gameday on my phone during breaks in class is NOT the ideal way to watch this game.
Nice, Gleyber.
Tight game, Team!
[52] I was watching on my laptop as my students were doing the pair work I assigned them. :)
I'm home now and this is much better.
Walk beats a K
Boo is made a good call.
Crowd getting into it
Let's do this Oswaldo!
damn.
C’mon Higgy!
Rats
Error from Rizzo? Could be a backbreaker.
Damn it.
[63] It sure could.
Phew!
ok let's finish this!
[55] My students were taking a quiz for the first fifteen minutes of class, so I was able to stare more intently at Gameday during that time. My conference period is coming up, so I should be able to watch for a bit, but I foolishly agreed to cover part of another teacher's class.
Say what you want about teacher salaries, but THIS is the true indignity!
[68]
laughing
And yes. That was foolish indeed.
That'll teach you to be a good samaritan.
[69] In my defense, I wasn't expecting a four-hour game. But perhaps that was foolish also.
Beautiful piece of hitting by Ratso there.
Gleyber too, but wrong spot.
Damn.
[76]
laughing
Live and learn, my friend. Live and learn.
I spent all day looking forward to tonight's game! D'oh!
Aw fuck Little League defense.
Finally got the kids out of the room and an actual video feed on my phone. I have to say I don't feel good to see Taillon on the mound right now.
Oh, fuck.
Fucked again by Taillon 1st inning
[74] My video feed is obviously a few minutes behind -- now I see what you're talking about.
Unbelievable.
Of course
What a fucking joke.
Why wasn’t a real reliever like Schmidt in the game???
crappy break on those flares.
Well, Ramírez probably would've scored on that anyway. Still sucks.
[82] That'll be the first question after the game.
I suppose Boone didn't want to completely burn his bullpen if things went deeper, but considering Clase is kind of unhittable, his priority should've been keeping the Guardians down at all costs.
[82] I mean, it's two bloopers, in the end.
Nice throw, Bader.
[82] And a blistering line drive over Bader's head.
F*ck. Looks like 2 of 3 in Cleveland
Fuck. I take full responsibility for this, by the way. Turning the phone off now.
Outstanding managing, Boone. Did he ever watch Taillon pitch during the season?
crap
Too late to bring in Schmidt now.
Off to dinner with some work friends. This was the only inning I saw. Mother fucking Bollocks!
I'm not down on Boone, but let me tell you exactly what he'll see afterwards:
"We felt like we had a good lane for Jaymo there, and we really wanted him to start a clean inning. We had Schmidt in back of him if things went a different way, so that was the move."
Is anyone else noticing this?
It used to be players would never go from second to third on a grounder to third, but it seems like I've seen it five times (against the Yankees) in the past month.
Three ground outs from Schmidt. Whaddaya know about that?
the ump scorecard should be interesting
Oswaldo's coming up big here!
I can fucking feel it...
This team is fast becoming the shitty Yankees again. Bad timing
Well losing to Cleveland would justify firing Boone and hiring Mattingly.
I feel like crying.
I feel like that's the season.
And there you go. But I have faith in Sevvy.
At least I get to see the B-52s tonight. That's something at least.
By the way, even though I didn’t watch, I still think it’s a stretch to declare the season over because the Yankees are shitty again. This is baseball. This is the playoffs. Like I said, I’ve got faith in Severino, who has looked like the team’s best pitcher, and I have faith in the offense.
[105]
Have fun
[106] Agreed. I just feel dread in my soul, that's all. :)
[107] Thanks!
As for the B-52s, that sounds amazing. I like the ones you're supposed to like, but my secret favorite is probably "Legal Tender." Oh, and "Private Idaho." I'd say that's my favorite.
1. Private Idaho
2. Legal Tender
3. Quiche Lorraine
4. Strobe Light
5. Dance this Mess Around
And the obvious ones. Enjoy the show!
All right, Coney's just talked me off the ledge.
[108] Thanks! I can't wait!
This was unplanned, too! A colleague's wife took ill so he gave her ticket to the first claimant, who was me!
No fucking questions for Boone about Taillon?!? WTF
Bob Marley in the Yankee clubhouse!
RIP Bruce Sutter.
Don’t like matinee games! I’ll review the game thread, seems a disappointing result..:(
Looks like I logged in to the wrong string last night (early this morning). Bombers will will the next two.
If you want a laugh check out my comments on "Flip Side". I was talking to myself the whole game.
[105] BTW, I've seen the B-52s. New Year's Eve, San Diego Sports Area, 1898, I think. I was rolling around in the aisle during the drop in Lock Lobster.
[116] [105] Uh, 1989 on that concert. Doh.
