Play Ball!

tumblr_n5ac9rgUKC1qzniimo1_500

Odd that the first time Tanaka faces a team for the second time it’s the Cubs.

Go figure with this weirdo scheduling.

Brett Gardner LF
Derek Jeter SS
Jacoby Ellsbury CF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Brian McCann C
Alfonso Soriano RF
Yangervis Solarte 3B
Brian Roberts 2B
Masahiro Tanaka RHP

Never mind the ivy:

Let’s Go Yank-ees!

Surprised he's staying in.

3 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 7:13 pm

Very close, could have gone either way

4 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 7:21 pm

Weird top half.
HBB hit by batted ball
Sac bunt that wasn't really a sacrifice & could have gone either way.
I continue to slump

Sit down Yanks

7 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 7:47 pm

Cap'n with a hit

8 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 7:53 pm

Ah, the rain has started

9 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 7:57 pm

Hmmm weather radar not looking good.

10 coleman42   ~  May 20, 2014 7:57 pm

OMG they scored a run!

11 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:00 pm

I'm blaming the rain.

12 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:03 pm

Ah, mound issue

13 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 20, 2014 8:07 pm

[11] "one...two...one,two,three,four 'Blame It On The RAIN..'"

14 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:08 pm

But that's it

15 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 8:14 pm

Slugfest in Fenway.

16 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:19 pm

[15] no lead is safe in Fenway

17 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 8:21 pm

I've had about enough of this Cy Hammel bullshit

18 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 8:22 pm

[16] It was 7-2, but the Sox started their half of the sixth with four straight hits.

19 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 8:23 pm

Uh oh.

20 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 8:23 pm

The Yankees are the worst positioned team in baseball.

21 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:26 pm

Coise you, rain

22 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 8:27 pm

What the fuck was that?

23 coleman42   ~  May 20, 2014 8:27 pm

Hammel was good against Yanks when he was on Rays, as I recall.

We may be seeing T's first unsuccessful outing.

Nice play on the squeeze.

24 coleman42   ~  May 20, 2014 8:28 pm

Nice play on the squeeze.

25 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:28 pm

Why thank you Cubbies. No wonder you haven't won a World Series in a hundred years.

26 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 8:36 pm

Nice to get the top of the inning over so quickly.

27 coleman42   ~  May 20, 2014 8:38 pm

Umps should stop play when there's visible lightning plus thunder, which happened in top of 5th.

28 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:39 pm

Mets knock!

29 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 8:39 pm

[26] Like it matters. We're facing career mediocrity Jason Hammel, so why would we expect to hit?

30 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:44 pm

I thought balls & strikes couldn't be reviewed. It's a strike.

31 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:45 pm

Baseball Gods prevail.

32 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 8:46 pm

These umpires are just the fucking worst

33 coleman42   ~  May 20, 2014 8:46 pm

Hammel was 2-0 against Yanks last year per Yes super.

34 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 8:46 pm

[33] I could have gone 2-0 against that Yankee team

35 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 8:48 pm

[30] I guess you can challenge foul vs strike. Makes sense, in a way -- it's the kind of thing you can get right by watching the replay. But then again, it slows the game down on a trivial difference.

36 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:51 pm

[35] We'll have to get clarification in the morning.

Gritner! Now plate him.

37 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:52 pm

Young kid with the nice snag

38 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 20, 2014 8:57 pm

Holy fucking bollocks!

39 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 8:57 pm

Oh, man.
Goddam Castro.

40 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 8:58 pm

Thank you Mark.

41 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 9:01 pm

Cubs bullpen!

42 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 9:03 pm

Whoa. John Farrell just had Brock Holt bunt with runners on first and second and nobody out in the eighth... with the Sox trailing by three runs.

That could be the worst sacrifice call I've ever seen. Well, except Brock Holt is really bad at batting, so maybe not the very worst. But it dropped the Boston Win Expectancy from 20% to 15%.

43 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 9:07 pm

I'm really beginning to hate the shift

44 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 9:07 pm

That beer thing is pretty cool.

45 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 9:08 pm

[44] I think they have it in Citi Field

46 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 9:08 pm

[42] Strikeout, pop out, Sox do not score.

47 rbj   ~  May 20, 2014 9:10 pm

I've got a bad feeling. And a re-fi in the morning. Night all.

48 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 20, 2014 9:11 pm

[46] Brock Holt! (A.Development reference in case you were wondering..)

49 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 9:11 pm

Oh, fun, I love a circus.

50 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 20, 2014 9:11 pm

[13] A Milli Vanilli reference? We know Tanaka can't be undefeated for the year, but the string she should not be broken tonight. Now the Yankees playing little league in the field. Ugh

51 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 9:11 pm

Really, the Yankees needed to sweep an awful Cubs team. This is a disappointment.

52 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 9:12 pm

Mr OK, have you seen the YouTube on Jimmy Page plagiarism?

53 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 20, 2014 9:16 pm

[50] kenboyer, you know it's true!
[52] No, what is it? About the Willie Dixon case from years back?

54 MSM35   ~  May 20, 2014 9:16 pm

Cubs aren't good but the Yanks are very average. Don't expect any long winning streaks.

55 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 20, 2014 9:19 pm

[52] I grew up listening to that Spirit album, and of course couldn't avoid Led Zep. We knew the riff was taken directly by Page, but thought it was almost an homage to the hippie milieu, and permission was granted. So now, 45 years later Randy California (or his family) wants to be paid?

56 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 20, 2014 9:22 pm

[54] Very average with peaking in the post season might be good enough this crazy season.

57 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 9:25 pm

[52] That among other things. Some Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, a whole lot of Zep songs. Actually it's in two parts.

Yeah, the Randy California thing is in the news, but the YouTube videos make a compelling case that Page plagiarized a big chunk of that album, and a lot of other songs too.

58 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 9:26 pm

Preston Claiborne is really kinda awful

59 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 9:27 pm

Hm, I couldn't get my reply to [53] and [55] through moderation. Maybe because of my YouTube links? Without the links:

[53] I'm kinda "proud" to admit that I worked directly with Rob and Fab and endured many an embarrassment beyond their inability to sing. But, the songs and productions were smashes that hold up even today.

61 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 9:27 pm

Yeah, it was the links -- well, easy to google them.

62 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 20, 2014 9:29 pm

We'll this sucks. And like the non YES Yankees game at Miller Park that looked like it was played in a cloud of cheese dust, this game is dark like half the lights at Wrigley failed to operate. Wtf!

63 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 20, 2014 9:32 pm

Tanaka taking a loss to the awful Cubs is just...awful.

[59] You worked with Milli Vanilli??!??! Please provide a detailed blog post with the whole story!

64 RIYank   ~  May 20, 2014 9:36 pm

Well, that's that.
I have to get up at 5:30 (that's seven hours from now, Mr. OK), so think I'll skip the Matt Thornton Experience.

65 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 20, 2014 9:38 pm

[62] nearly 20 years with Arista Records. Maybe some stories another time.

66 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 20, 2014 9:40 pm

Tanaka had to lose, better against a non-league opponent

67 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 20, 2014 9:40 pm

[63] I'm out too, NBA hoops is calling.

[64] Please do! Have a kajillion questions any time you'd like to share.

68 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 9:41 pm

I don't remember Al Leiter being "big, heavy and fat"

69 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 20, 2014 9:47 pm

[67] just the ego part of his anatomy is.

70 kenboyer made me cry   ~  May 20, 2014 9:48 pm

Did al Leiter just say "corn hole ya" or am I hearing things?

71 Mattpat11   ~  May 20, 2014 9:49 pm

Its time for a bloodletting in the Yankees bullpen. If absolutely no one else, Thornton has to go.

72 MSM35   ~  May 20, 2014 9:54 pm

Before we all leave. Check out the articles, when you get a chance, in the Daily News about A-Rod, ROC Nation and Robbie Cano. This is the kind of story that The News does well.

I went- just ran home (soaked).
The game sucked. Yanks hit a ton of pop flies.
My seats were underneath so we stayed dry.

The 4th where Tanaka gunned 2 guys down at home was fun for the away fans.
Conditions were pretty terrible- I give our guy a bit of a pass.

I'm going again tomorrow!
