in a week or two I'm going to be sick of this, but I'll watch today

Play Ball!

Not on Yahoo's game channel? Or anywhere else? This is cruel.

it might not count, but hey here's to a good year

I miss Coney already ...

Ah Ross Ohlendorf. Remnants of the "Randy Johnson for whatever you can find in the couch cushions" trade.

Yeah, for me the worst part of spring training is being re-introduced to the announcers...the winter feels so much nicer without the hyperbole of Mr. Kay.

"There's a typical Gardner hit! But he's gunned down by Iwamura!"

Kay is really, really bad at his job.

[9]

He's channeling Sterling ...

(hey, did you have a good birthday yesterday Matt?)

11 Mattpat11   ~  Mar 3, 2010 2:01 pm

[10] Yes I did, thank you. The real festivities are actually later in the week though.

Hm, I'm at home today, but I'm not sure what's up. On YESHD I have Yankeeography (Elston Howard). I'm seeing the Yanks-Bucs on MLB Network.

Diving catch by Gardy!
(On a routine fly ball, but still.)

Currently teaching. Yes, at this moment. I've broken them into discussion groups and they're hardly discussing.

Oh well.

Here's to baseball!

[14] Fight the good fight!

A-Rod just broke up the no-hitter.

Staring blankly at students staring blankly, vs. listening to Michael Kay.
Pick'em.

King Kong Pena!

17 Diane Firstman   ~  Mar 3, 2010 2:42 pm

[16]

Pena drives the first Score Truck!

18 RIYank   ~  Mar 3, 2010 2:46 pm

[17] Okay, who had Pena in the First Run pool? That's a big payday.

19 Diane Firstman   ~  Mar 3, 2010 2:46 pm

and welcome back Nick Johnson .... who takes over the score truck driving ...

20 RIYank   ~  Mar 3, 2010 2:51 pm

[19] Nick was trying to follow in Pena's footsteps, but he just doesn't have the power.

I caught the first 3 innings on the MLB network while I was home for lunch. It is good to see baseball again, especially after getting a couple inches of snow yesterday (March snow in Alabama????).

Did Gardner decide to let his hair grow out this year? I only saw him with his hat on but he had sideburns and hair sticking out the back of his cap.

Also, I thought it was cool that CC said if Cervelli didn't get a full playoff share then he would pay it out of his own pocket (now, that's a teammate).

I caught the first 3 innings on the MLB network while I was home for lunch.

Wait, that was you??? You look exactly like Cervelli! Well, congrats, Bama, you've lived the dream.

Yeah, Gardner is no longer bald.

And that doesn't surprise me about CC.

Score truck?! Woo hoo!

Pity I can't even get a game channel version here at work.

24 RIYank   ~  Mar 3, 2010 3:08 pm

[23] You could consider shelling out for MLB.TV. I did it last year and it was totally worth it -- but last year I had no good way to get the games on television; this year I do. I still haven't decided how I'm going to do it this year. (One important fact is that if you buy MLB.TV you can watch on your television with a Roku box, which I have.)
I should say that some people were unhappy with MLB.TV, but for me it was great.

25 Mattpat11   ~  Mar 3, 2010 3:08 pm

Nick Johnson lost a ton of weight

26 rbj   ~  Mar 3, 2010 3:12 pm

[24] I'm going for the Extra Innings package. I now have a 32" HD TV. Can't wait for the games.

27 RIYank   ~  Mar 3, 2010 3:14 pm

[26] Yeah, that's probably my main alternative. I also got a big HD TV, plus FiOS (until December I had broadcast tv only). One reason I enjoyed the Olympics so much.

I'm guessing MLB.TV funneled through a Roku is not exactly HiDef.

Listening to Curtis Granderson now on YES ... he seems like a top-notch guy ... another one that it will be easy to root for.

29 rbj   ~  Mar 3, 2010 3:33 pm

[27] Oh yeah, Olympics were great in HD. Especially the Swedish women's curling team.

3-3? what happened?

30 Mattpat11   ~  Mar 3, 2010 3:34 pm

[29] Its reassuring to know that Jonathan Albaladejo sucks all year round.

31 Mattpat11   ~  Mar 3, 2010 3:45 pm

Yay!

32 RagingTartabull   ~  Mar 3, 2010 3:48 pm

#98 in your program, #1 in your heart

33 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Mar 3, 2010 3:50 pm

[15] Hah ah ha ha hah ah ah !!!
Indeed!

34 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Mar 3, 2010 3:51 pm

It's good to see you guys, thanks for the laughs!

35 Bama Yankee   ~  Mar 3, 2010 4:00 pm

[22] LOL. Yeah, I'm leaving the dream. You got me with that one...
(for the record, I doubt I would ever be mistaken for Cervelli...maybe Gardner now that he has hair)

36 Bama Yankee   ~  Mar 3, 2010 4:02 pm

[35] that would be "living" the dream.

37 Mattpat11   ~  Mar 3, 2010 6:09 pm

And yeah, after something like 47 hours of a baseball game that featured such epic matchups as Jack Taschner vs Reegie Corona, I'm probably done with full games until Opening Day.
