Great AB for Jeter.

2 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:20 pm

Terrible base running for Jeter.

3 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:28 pm

Don't you just hate the baseball players who hate to play baseball.

4 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:37 pm

I'll take that.

5 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:43 pm

Good Curtis.

6 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:44 pm

Hell yeah.
Eat it, laptop.

7 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:45 pm

Just you and me vs. Red Sox Nation, rbj.

8 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:47 pm

[7] It's an unfair fight RIYank, we'll crush them.

9 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:48 pm

Tim McCarver giving baserunning instructions to Curtis Granderson. Now I've heard everything.

10 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:50 pm

[9] He was going to be out whether he looked back or not, it was all about the great throw by Youk there. Great at-bats by Cano and Chavez, sounds almost like a new dictatorship duo taking over.

11 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:59 pm

Oh yeah!

12 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 1:59 pm

I'll be. You don't see that often.

13 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:00 pm

Nice play, Jeet, but I'm still seething about that f'ing bunt yesterday. Stop that shit.

14 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:03 pm

Well, he's plainly out, it's obvious.

15 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:09 pm

Buck and McCarver. Brutal. I swear I miss Joe Morgan.

Just checked to see if I could get a NESN feed, but they have hockey.

16 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:12 pm

16) Miss Joe? Say it ain't so...hey, you could always put on John and Suyzan.

17 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:13 pm

[16] Not for those of us outside the greater NY area.

18 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:14 pm

Can I join in?
Gotta say [9] I think Timmy was right.
He would have been out anyway, but if the play was closer, turning his head twice definitely cost a few fractions of a second.
(Yes, even a broken asshole is right twice a day).

Leaving a bunch of opportunities on the bases so far.

19 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:17 pm

I can get John and Suzyn, but it's out of sync with the vid so I never do that.

20 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:18 pm

WE CARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!

21 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:18 pm

This Pedroia slurping is getting annoying.

22 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:21 pm

Nova is a pretty good pitcher. He's not going to be great, but he has good control and he doesn't make many big mistakes.

23 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:24 pm

Youk is swinging like shit right now.

24 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:24 pm

22) He has pretty good poise, and no lack of confidence.

25 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:26 pm

way to hang in there, Curtis.

26 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:26 pm

Nice ab for CG.

27 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:32 pm

Great ab for Chavez.

28 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:34 pm

Yeah, DOG

29 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:34 pm

Pig n a poke, BITCH

30 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:34 pm

Yay!!!

31 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:34 pm

I'm really liking this Martin guy.
Smart move, Cashman.

32 RIYank   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:34 pm

F. yes. Russell Martin and Eric Chavez, who would have guessed?

33 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:35 pm

Listening to the radio, watching gameday, reading your comments...things look pretty good.

34 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:38 pm

the old man with a hard single!

35 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:38 pm

I love that the RS only have one pitching outing where their starter actually pitched well.

36 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:38 pm

I haven't seen every AB, but I've only seen ONE ball that Jeter has hit it the air.... the liner to RF that was caught. He looks like shit. It's gonna be a long 4 years.

37 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:40 pm

[36] Jesus H. Christ he just got a hit, even that's bad?

38 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:41 pm

Argh, Alex tied up on a 2-0 cutter.

39 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:41 pm

I'm calling double here.

40 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:42 pm

then looks at a fastball over the plate, 2-2. Then takes a breaking ball high, 3-2...

41 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:42 pm

Ok, off by one.

42 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:42 pm

Ripped it, to the right of the SS, Lowrie. Man, he's locked in.

43 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:42 pm

EFF YOU, CLAY!!!!

44 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:43 pm

Aw, you should have left Clay in.

45 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:43 pm

Gee... I feel badly for Laptops.

46 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:46 pm

Com'on Cano.

47 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:46 pm

[37] Dude.... even a broken clock....
He's got 5 groundball singles and 1 groundball double this year, and slugging .269. Have you seen anything that would indicate he will even OPS .700?

48 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:49 pm

Afternoon all, back from a stuffing of dim sum, glad to see the score at 5-1.

Now, if Nova can just get through his usual mid-innings nexus of suck, we ought to win this going away ...

49 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:51 pm

[47] And how much would that change if he was two hit two doubles off the wall? It's such a small sample size that it's too hard to make any kind of confirmation that he's toast, but I'll leave you to speculate.

If he ends up sucking then I expect the "brain-trust" has a backup plan, I doubt they do.

50 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 9, 2011 2:59 pm

Jeter should have taken that himself... it's a much easier throw to 1st.

51 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:01 pm

C'mon Nova, wiggle off the hook here.

52 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:02 pm

Fugh.

53 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:02 pm

Mother fucking fucker.

54 The Hawk   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:04 pm

All that cause Robbie couldn't throw to first

55 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:08 pm

Not a great inning, dammit.

56 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:11 pm

The Grandy Man can.

57 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:11 pm

Curtis!

58 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:11 pm

GRANDYMAN, BITCHES!

59 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:11 pm

Omg, now Sterling "sings" "The Grandy Man can, ohh, the Grandy Man can."

Speechless.

60 earl   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:14 pm

Chavez is three for three - Cashman know how to shop a garage sale.

61 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:20 pm

[60] Cashman know how to shop a garage sale.

Kei Igawa agrees.

62 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:22 pm

[59] You chose to listen to the Wald-ling, you get what deserve ...

I'm listening to the game on WEEI (fucking FOX games, I can't watch the game even though I'm on the West Coast and the FOX game won't start for another hour out here).

63 earl   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:23 pm

[61] They can't all be gems... Igawa was a little pricey for a garage sale.

64 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:31 pm

[62] What choice do I have???

65 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:32 pm

Dr Dave,

THROW STRIKES.

66 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:32 pm

Terrible start by Nova.

67 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:33 pm

Heyman just tweeted that the Yanks have signed Carlos Silva. Who is next? Rudy May?

68 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:35 pm

What was Lowrie looking for?

69 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:38 pm

[67] THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN OF SNACKS PONTOON!!!

Man, Mattpat11 would totally Cronenberg when he got *that* news ...

70 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:39 pm

What a play by Dusty.

71 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:42 pm

Damn, just got under it.

72 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:43 pm

RIPPER!

73 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:43 pm

Just once in my life I would like to hit a ball that well that far.

74 inOhio   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:52 pm

Sounds like McCarver will join in the Manny lovesfest. Not.

75 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:56 pm

Russ!

76 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:56 pm

Yup, excellent call Brian.

77 earl   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:56 pm

Wow, Martin is something else!

78 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:58 pm

If you hate voting for the HoF, stop voting for the HoF. Douchebag!!!

79 earl   ~  Apr 9, 2011 3:59 pm

Anyone warming up for bottom of seventh?

80 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:00 pm

[79] Joba

81 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:01 pm

Heh, Red Sox fans over at BBTF are bitching about why Epstein didn't sign Martin in the off season, which is pretty amusing. But someone posted this, which I thought was pretty cool.

Russell Martin did the most impressive thing I've ever seen last year at Fenway. He threw a ball from the track in front of the Pesky Pole, flat footed, to 2 people in the front row of the Monster seats who were yelling for a ball, during BP. I was shocked at how much arm strength he had. Completely insane.

82 inOhio   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:02 pm

Jeter looks even more lost this year than last. Doesn't bode well.

83 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:06 pm

Like Joba being aggressive. Don't walk Youk, now...

84 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:06 pm

Man, Youk is in a slump.

85 earl   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:06 pm

Joba's first pitch to Youklis - 96mph.

86 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:10 pm

Nice job, Joba!

87 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:10 pm

Pair of mean 3-2 sliders from Joba there. Nice job, bro.

88 earl   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:14 pm

No hits for Sox since Nova, yes?

89 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:16 pm

[88] Yup, goose eggs from David & Joba

90 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:20 pm

But, but ... Soriano's TEH 8TH INNING GUY!!!

91 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:25 pm

[90] Oh, good, Soriano's up now.

92 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:25 pm

Yankees need to dump this guy fast. What's the story on Feliciano?

93 Dimelo   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:27 pm

[92] He got out of it.

94 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:28 pm

[92] Doctors pushed the start of his return to throwing back. At least a couple of weeks out.

95 earl   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:29 pm

2 hits over four innings of scoreless relief... the 'pen is mightier than the Sox.

96 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:38 pm

Nova's going to have to go more than 4+ innings if he's going to move up in the rotation.

97 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:40 pm

Nova’s going to have to go more than 4+ innings if he’s going to move up in the rotation.

98 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:40 pm

err, that should read ... stay ... in the rotation.

99 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:41 pm

Anyways, nice game, other than Nova's start.

100 rbj   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:41 pm

Sweet!

1-7 baby!

Laila tov to all, nice to hit the sack after a win.

102 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:50 pm

A nice 'break':
"The good news for him [Tsuyoshi Nishioka] and his new team was that their heralded acquisition and Japanese batting champion doesn't need a cast or surgery on the fibula he fractured in New York from a double-play takeout slide by Yankees slugger Nick Swisher."

Nova is still young (24) and I suspect his later innings fade to due to fatigue. I don't think his stamia is where it needs to be. But everything else looks pretty good.

103 mhoward120   ~  Apr 9, 2011 4:52 pm

Magic number is 151 to eliminate the Red Sux.

104 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 9, 2011 7:57 pm

[102] Wow, Swish is a "slugger?"

105 Raf   ~  Apr 9, 2011 8:35 pm

[81] One thing I enjoy about getting to games early is watching the players long toss.
