It’s September. The Yankees just took two of three up in Fenway. They’re in first place thanks to a brisk 3-2 victory over Toronto. And they control their own destiny from here on in. The weather in New York City was piped in straight from Heaven (or San Diego, depending on your definition of Heaven). The season can go anywhere from here, but man, summer’s ending in a perfect convergence of elements. Step back, drink deep, and smile. The Yankees are back on top. Even if it’s just for one night, it’s my kind of night.

All is right with the world for at least tonight. As some of the old guard start to fade it's beautiful to see Nunez, Gardner, and especilly Nova step up to say we got this one.
[4] yeah, no offense to hoffman, who was a great reliever, but i think even he knew he had no business holding that record. he was just keeping it warm. i wonder how it feels to be so good at something, like hoffman was at closing, and then to look to your right and see someone leaps and bounds better than you.

maybe i'll look at it from this perspective. nova is huge for this team. he has meant so much to the rotation. like and MVP for rookies....translation, ROY trophy is his. oh you want numbers too?....we'll say 16 wins and an ERA under 4. give it to him.
re:cano and the HALL.
too early....but, if you were building a team would cano be your first choice?.....yes. for me, yes. young and awesome. someone said to me that his swing reminds them of griffey jr. i'll take it. i love this dude. fucking savage. who's a more exciting hitter?....yeah, that's what i thought.

[8] For ROY, I like Pineda slightly over Hellickson, Nova and Ackley. But Nova can still win it with a good September. Pineda strikes out a guy an inning andd lets up a lot fewer baserunners. Nova does it in a hitter's park. Close, but I give Pineda an edge for the extra innings.
Cano is half-way through his career. He's got comps w/ HOFers. He's trailing Utley for the best 2B of the era, so that hurts a bit, and Pedroia isn't going anywhere either. He probably won't have the peak of Alomar, so he'll have to keep contributing in his mid-30s. But if he is great until 31, and then good until 34, and then avg til 37, i think he's got a good chance.
