I Got a Friend Shirley Bigger than You

I caught the highlights of the Cards-Brewers game yesterday. Fitting that it came a day before the 50th anniversary of the famous Harvey Haddix near pefecto.

Gerald Eskenazi covered the game and he wrote about his experience in the Times over the weekend.

I remember reading about this game when I was a kid and I still find it heartbreaking, don’t you?

I think it's the text book definition of "tough loss." What more could you ask from your starter than 12 perfect innings. I'll always consider it a perfect+ game, lost by the offense, not Harvey.

Very nice headline, Alex. Harvey. Slyly done.

Wow, that's impressive, weeping.

Speaking of big dudes: Big Papi's batting sixth tonight. I wonder if he's gonna be steamed. Him and Dusty, they'd make a nice pair o' bookends huh?

Mets DL Reyes and Church, acquire INF Valdez from Indians, and call up Fernando Martinez.

And from the AP:
TAMPA, Fla. -- New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada played three innings of defense during a simulated game Tuesday.

Outfielder Xavier Nady (right elbow ligament) and infielder Cody Ransom (right quadriceps) also batted.

Posada and Nady could play in a minor league game this week.

Everyone hear this one (as reported by Gammo):
"Boston wants to wait on David Ortiz and tabled a proposal of Johnson for Manny Delcarmen."

It that possible?!? The Nats would give up Nick the Stick for D'Carman?

[8] Nick would undoubtedly hurt his wrist picking up his suitcase at Logan's Baggage Claim!
