Flip ‘Em like Stacks of Flap Jacks

pancakes

Carl Pavano goes for the Indians today against Phil Hughes. As you may know, Pavano has pitched well of late. This is not an amusing development for Yankee fans–it’s revolting, actually. I hope the bats keep it up this afternoon and put a whuppin’ on Mr. Pavano. It would also be nice to see Mr. Hughes throw another good game, wouldn’t it?

Happy Sunday and Let’s Go Yan-Kees.

[15] yes, need to pound pavano, and also hope that michael kay will stop talking about pavano

Bleh!

Pressing a bit against the shitstain perhaps?

Feel free to cut that out guys!

22 Dimelo   ~  May 31, 2009 1:24 pm

Is it just me or when a pitcher sucks you can see it in his body language how uncomfortable he is, but when he's doing well, like Hughes is doing so far, then their body language looks different - like they are in total control?

Hughes just seems to have a different mound presence than last year, but these things center so much on emotion that I don't know if what I'm seeing has merit or not. That said, Pavano still looks like a big turd, pitching well or not, I want to see him get lit up, start to cry, and run off the mound throwing his glove into the stands. Eff Pavano! SERIOUSLY!

23 mehmattski   ~  May 31, 2009 1:27 pm

Man, I wish the Yankees' 2005 first round draft pick were in the majors ripping doubles down the line...

24 ms october   ~  May 31, 2009 1:28 pm

damn, why did their ball fall in?

[22] i agree - composure/mentality and execution seem very interwoven

25 rbj   ~  May 31, 2009 1:29 pm

Off to mow the lawn. But this time I'll actually be able to follow the game on the radio.

26 Chyll Will   ~  May 31, 2009 1:30 pm

It's just a matter of time; Pavano will be Pavano before this game is done. Wait for it...

36 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 1:42 pm

i hope this long inning ill affects pavano.

hughes is throwing an awful lot of pitches. i would expect to see CMW in this game.

37 cult of basebaal   ~  May 31, 2009 1:43 pm

crap!

ok, that was my fault, i left to go get coffee.

1st inning i've missed of hughes' in 2 games, 1st inning he gives up runs.

38 PJ   ~  May 31, 2009 1:44 pm

[22] Having the stuff to get into the majors is one thing. Having the confidence in your stuff to stay in the majors is quite another. Phil is exhibiting the confidence to stay up these days, where there was some doubt before. I think that's mostly attributed to his young age.

I'm troubled by what this AAAA ball lineup is did against him in that frame. The Indians are missing arguably their three best players today for Christ's sakes!

And the Yankees lineup simply must pound this asshat pitching against them! That's what first place teams are supposed to do...

39 ms october   ~  May 31, 2009 1:44 pm

[36] yeah already, 60 pitches, though i was surprised only 19 balls - lot of foul offs

40 seamus   ~  May 31, 2009 1:45 pm

I'm not sure why folks are surprised when Pavano pitches well. His issue with the Yankees wasn't how he pitched, but the fact that he never did. I was actually ok when he did pitch.

41 PJ   ~  May 31, 2009 1:46 pm

[36] They are holding CMW in case Pettitte's back either prevents him to start on his next turn, or they need a long man that day.

I don't think Wang gets into today's game...

Hughes can still squeeze a QS out of this one.

42 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 1:47 pm

i also hate that pavano wears #44. that might be irrational, but who cares...

43 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 1:48 pm

[37] damn you. ; )

44 ms october   ~  May 31, 2009 1:49 pm

46 cult of basebaal   ~  May 31, 2009 1:51 pm

[41] not according to Petey:

Andy Pettitte remains the starter for Wednesday assuming his back continues to improve. If CMW doesn’t pitch today, he’ll throw a lengthy bullpen after the game. …

47 ms october   ~  May 31, 2009 1:57 pm

48 cult of basebaal   ~  May 31, 2009 1:57 pm

An outfield of Damon, Gardner, and Swisher is the perfect trio to allow the first ever sac fly from second base.

70 PJ   ~  May 31, 2009 2:20 pm

Hughes is battling his ass off, which is a tremendous improvement from a month ago! He deserves infinitely more from this lineup today! Gardner and Swisher are playing with their heads up their asses, and that fourth run is on them...

152 Just Fair   ~  May 31, 2009 3:20 pm

153 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:21 pm

[156] mental problems?

158 mehmattski   ~  May 31, 2009 3:24 pm

Please no Jose Veras. Please no Jose Veras. Please?

159 cult of basebaal   ~  May 31, 2009 3:25 pm

crappy game at the plate for Cano.

well, we'll see if Girardi has the same irresistable urge to manage for the sake of managing that Wedge had.

160 51cq24   ~  May 31, 2009 3:26 pm

sometimes it seems like robbie is trying to foul off ball 4

161 seamus   ~  May 31, 2009 3:26 pm

[158] is veras up or are you just trying to give us all heart attacks?

162 PJ   ~  May 31, 2009 3:26 pm

That's great that they got the kid off the hook!

LOL @ Pavano's ND!

: )

163 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:28 pm

it's still Wang!

164 cult of basebaal   ~  May 31, 2009 3:28 pm

[159] well, Wang is still in there, which is what I would have done.

165 mehmattski   ~  May 31, 2009 3:28 pm

[161] I didn't see him warming, but even so, his appearance in tie games is like committing seppuku.

166 cult of basebaal   ~  May 31, 2009 3:29 pm

c'mon Doodles, strikes and ground balls!

167 alittleblackegg   ~  May 31, 2009 3:29 pm

I like seeing Wang throw high and inside every now and then.

168 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:29 pm

me no likey leadoff walks.

169 51cq24   ~  May 31, 2009 3:30 pm

why do i hate garko so much?

170 cult of basebaal   ~  May 31, 2009 3:30 pm

[165] not even, there is honor in seppuku.

man, when Garko wears those shades, he looks like he should be an extra in an 80's movie ... like Cobra, or Scarface ... or on an episode of Miami Vice.

171 51cq24   ~  May 31, 2009 3:31 pm

i mean that seriously- did he do something unforgivable against us?

172 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:31 pm

should the yankees be wearing the new stadium patch on their hats on the road? i'm thinking...no.

173 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:32 pm

hell yeah!

nice work.

177 cult of basebaal   ~  May 31, 2009 3:34 pm

nice recovery, CMW ... that inning was a little more shaky, location wise, but no lasting damage done ...

c'mon boys, let's hand it over to Mo

178 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:35 pm

wow - jeter, damon & tex have all hit their 12th doubles of the season today.

179 seamus   ~  May 31, 2009 3:35 pm

Wang looks good overall. Hope to see him starting again soon.

180 ms october   ~  May 31, 2009 3:39 pm

swisher bunting is going to be an adventure

181 ms october   ~  May 31, 2009 3:40 pm

[180] wow, maybe not - nice bunt -

182 Just Fair   ~  May 31, 2009 3:41 pm

Who was that dude last year or so who made his first appearance as a pinch runner and promptly got picked off? That was rough. : /

183 rbj   ~  May 31, 2009 3:41 pm

I'm back. Lawn planted, tomato plants mowed. Er, something like that. Soooo. . . .
1) Wang back to the rotation, Hughes down to AAA?
2) That Pavano guy, he's sure pitched well against the Yankees. Should NY sign him for next year? I mean, it looks like all the other Indians are going down with injuries but him, so he should be durable, right?

184 cult of basebaal   ~  May 31, 2009 3:41 pm

aaaah, Gritner refusing to hit the low inside fastball drives me crazy.

185 ms october   ~  May 31, 2009 3:42 pm

nice slappiness brett

186 seamus   ~  May 31, 2009 3:42 pm

gardner deserved a hit. glad he got it.

187 rbj   ~  May 31, 2009 3:43 pm

Let's go Jorge. Sac fly is all I'm asking for.

188 Just Fair   ~  May 31, 2009 3:43 pm

189 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:43 pm

score.

190 seamus   ~  May 31, 2009 3:43 pm

[183] it is kind of liked Pavano passed off his disease on the rest of the cleveland team.

191 alittleblackegg   ~  May 31, 2009 3:43 pm

Nice! First lucky bounce our way comes in the 9th.

192 51cq24   ~  May 31, 2009 3:44 pm

why isn't gardner running?

193 rbj   ~  May 31, 2009 3:45 pm

[188] - they should have sent gardner, this is where girardi frustrtaes me some

197 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:46 pm

i hate word press.

wow, espn gamecast had the 2nd strike low and on the corner. tbs had it middle of the plate, high, as a ball...

198 51cq24   ~  May 31, 2009 3:47 pm

what the fuck? that's total bullshit. the guy is throwing balls all over the place, fastest runner on the team on 1st, gidp monster at the plate, go ahead run at 3rd. how is gardner staying put?

199 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:48 pm

i think Wang could've gone 1 more...

we better win this goddamn game.

203 Just Fair   ~  May 31, 2009 3:49 pm

I try to lay off Girardi, but I don't want to hear whatever bullshit excuse he offers up for not having Brett run. Bollocks, indeed.

204 51cq24   ~  May 31, 2009 3:50 pm

well if we can survive to the 10th we get to face luis vizcaino

no. leadoff. walks.

damnit!!!

maybe in a situation where the batter is obviously bunting the catcher should always stand

KC in old school powder blue uni's...

210 51cq24   ~  May 31, 2009 3:55 pm

i'm glad he's going to robertson here but why not just let him start the inning against the switch hitters?

211 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:57 pm

i've played in Tuscaloosa. it's a long way from Queens...

212 Just Fair   ~  May 31, 2009 3:58 pm

Here's to you Mr. Robertson. A few outs is all ya' need.

213 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:59 pm

don't lose him.

214 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 3:59 pm

215 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 4:00 pm

it's lookin' like Wang - or Mo - shoulda started this inning.

216 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 4:01 pm

Indians PA just played "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, during that visit.

217 51cq24   ~  May 31, 2009 4:01 pm

i think wang was done. i just don't understand why you go to coke without any real lefties coming up.

218 OldYanksFan   ~  May 31, 2009 4:02 pm

Gotta bring in Mo if Coke loads the bases.......

219 Just Fair   ~  May 31, 2009 4:02 pm

If Girardi had little faith in Dave before....Ugh. We may not seem him again until July. What an effin' lame loss.

220 OldYanksFan   ~  May 31, 2009 4:03 pm

221 51cq24   ~  May 31, 2009 4:03 pm

game over. total bollocks.

223 PJ   ~  May 31, 2009 4:03 pm

What a terrible game by the team, really.

Teixeira 4 - Indians 5

Terrible job by most everyone else, particularly Cano and his lazy ass!

Hughes and Wang deserved better than this against a team with their three best players on the shelf...

224 The Hawk   ~  May 31, 2009 4:03 pm

I really think the Yanks need to decide, Hughes or Chamberlain in the rotation. Two bullpen abusers - especially in a row - is no good.

225 cult of basebaal   ~  May 31, 2009 4:03 pm

well, that sure felt inevitable after the debacle in the top of the 9th.

226 ms october   ~  May 31, 2009 4:04 pm

should have and could have won this game - blah

227 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 4:04 pm

if that call against Jeter was correct, we would've had a 5-4 lead and Mo would've started the 9th. we win. complete and utter bollocks.

228 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 4:05 pm

[223] Tex should've had 5, Indians 4.

229 seamus   ~  May 31, 2009 4:05 pm

damn

230 The Hawk   ~  May 31, 2009 4:06 pm

Not having Gardner steal second was really idiotic.

231 51cq24   ~  May 31, 2009 4:06 pm

it would have been interesting to see who would have pitched against the lefty choo with the bases loaded had robertson walked peralta.

232 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 4:06 pm

at least we didn't make an error. well, it was a somewhat generous call for gardner...

233 OldYanksFan   ~  May 31, 2009 4:06 pm

Did Coke give up that hit or Robertson?

234 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 4:07 pm

robertson.

235 ms october   ~  May 31, 2009 4:07 pm

[224] they need to split them up since neither is that efficient and both are on restrictions

236 thelarmis   ~  May 31, 2009 4:08 pm

let's hope we win the series tomorrow night. Joba needs to throw at least 6 effective innings. i'm sure we'll see Ace manana...

237 PJ   ~  May 31, 2009 4:08 pm

[228] True, but with this team, he shouldn't have to do it all himself.

Swisher is a cheap imitation of a MLB player, and when Cano mails it in, he's practically as bad!

Po should have kept his day off intact.

Too many things wrong with this game, and they let this team of schlubs back in the series...

Bleh!

238 OldYanksFan   ~  May 31, 2009 4:08 pm

2 Relievers, 2 walks. Not a good way to save a ballgame.

239 rbj   ~  May 31, 2009 4:11 pm

Grrr, grumble grumble grumble.

Oh well, at least Wang's looking better.
