    Very interesting piece. It shows the weight of the principal subject and has several evocative features, including the face, the surface the figure is seated on, and some suggestions of other figures in the background. The play of light and shadow shows elite skill, and in effect rules the composition.

    Man, I can’t find a cylinder you’re missing on, Alex! Such coolness.

    I love Diebenkorn. He’s an absolute God to me. This was during his representational phase–he started out as an abstract painter, moved to representation and then back to abstraction. I really like his drawings, which are always wonderfully composed. He was very influenced by Matisse, and Mondrain, but Diebs brought something special to those models–a terrific sense of light that is very Californian.
