I'm thinking we all need to get together and pitch in for a new GPS navigation system for the Score Truck, it seems to get lost on the way to stadiums on the road:

Prior to the 14-inning affair, the Yanks exhibited some shocking home/road splits. While in the cozy confines of Yankee Stadium, the Bombers hit .316/.394/.515. That’s an entire lineup of Alex Rodriguez in a down season. On the road, though, the team ekes out just a .258/.341/.395 line, and that doesn’t include today’s 8-for-47 debacle. The numbers are subject to a small sample size warning, but right now, the Yanks are a team built for their home stadium.

I'm going to miss the game but will check in on the comments later. Hopefully, Javy won't be putting out the fire with gasoline. He does give up the long ball when he's not sharp, and uh, I guess the Jays can hit the long ball.

SCORE TRUCK INDEED!

Let's go BOYS

3 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 12:59 pm

All right, just finished mowing the lawn just in time for first pitch!

4 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:03 pm

Aside from their perennial whipping boys the Twins, the Yankees have one victory over a better than .500 team since April 21.

5 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:08 pm

[4] Seems a bit artificial, since (whipping boys or not) the Twins are a first place team with the same record as the Red Sox and Blue Jays.

6 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:10 pm

Nice to see the boys picking up where they left off yesterday.

7 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:11 pm

And the Jays outfield is too.

[5] Artifical or not, even 5 wins since April 21 isn't so hot.

8 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:11 pm

Gah. That was *well* struck.

9 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:12 pm

I assume this has already been covered, but what's up with Bob Lorenz doing play-by-play? Did Michael Kay have trouble crossing the border?

10 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:12 pm

Well, at least it wasn't a K ...

11 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:13 pm

[9] Kay never comes North. Not sure if it's ever been explained why that is ...

12 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:14 pm

Vazquez will either give up 4 HRs or strikeout 10+

13 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:20 pm

[3] Dang. I still have to do that.

Is it just me or are the cameras at whatever-the-name-is where the Blue Jays play sort of in odd locations.

14 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:23 pm

how bad does teixeira have to get before he's moved out of the 3 spot?

15 randym77   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:25 pm

WTF was that?

16 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:25 pm

Yay
Boo.

17 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:25 pm

Wtf was that horse shit?

18 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:25 pm

[7] I count eight wins:

April 24 @ Angels
May 7 @ Red Sox
May 8 @ Red Sox
May 14 vs Twins
May 15 vs Twins
May 17 vs Red Sox
May 25 @ Twins
May 26 @Twins

In 17 games played against better that are currently better than .500 teams since April 21.

And thanks to your cutoff (randomly in the middle of the Oakland series), the count conveniently leaves off five wins against the A's and Rangers, who are both above .500.

19 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:30 pm

[14] Full season's worth, I'm guessing.

20 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:32 pm

[18] The Angels and Red Sox were not over .500 at the time. Only the Twins.

21 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:33 pm

Awful baseball all weekend.

22 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:34 pm

[11] I like to think he killed a man--it's the romantic in me.

23 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:35 pm

[18] As for the random cut-off, that is the point of "since a date".

24 ms october   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:37 pm

[22] :}

ujst turned on the game - good to see no tor hrs yet

25 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:37 pm

[20] I would prefer to judge how impressive a victory over a certain team is based on the team's record after 55 games rather than the team's record after 14 games.

For example, which seems more reasonable: are the Rangers a .357 team (win percentage on April 21) or are they a .545 team (record today)?

26 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:37 pm

[22] Nah...it's the waters. I think Kay was misinformed though.

27 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:38 pm

[24] :)

28 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:38 pm

[25] A team's record at the time is often more indicative of how they are playing at that point.

29 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:43 pm

Over/Under on beer intake on the guy who keeps yelling random stuff just to hear his own echo?

30 ms october   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:43 pm

Good Lord, that man can run.

That thing stayed up so long I was sure it would be caught.

Are we going to see Score Truck this inning?

42 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:54 pm

Oh, sweet Jesus.

43 ms october   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:54 pm

god damnit a triple followed by 2 k's

44 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:55 pm

Triple with one out and can't get him home? yeesh.

Off to do some lawn mowing -- less excruciating than watching the so called Yankee "offense."

45 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:56 pm

Girardi must be watching enough of these games to realize his team is really struggling, right? So, for the second straight game he eschews a perfect opportunity for a squeeze play with an excellent bunter in Jeter.

Joe Maddon has already helped his team win 5 games with a successful squeeze, but Girardi can't be bothered.

46 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 1:58 pm

Nice lead off walk of Molina. That bodes well for the inning.

47 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:01 pm

[45] you would have had jeter bunt with 1 out and a runner on 3rd? just because the yankees have lost 2 games in a row?

48 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:03 pm

[47] How about just because the Yankees offense has struggled in Toronto, Jeter is a great bunter, the Jays have an outfielder playing 3B, Gardner has tremendous speed at 3B, Morrow has looked very strong and Jeter seemed over matched in his first AB.

49 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:06 pm

[48] it was the 3rd inning. you're gonna give up an out when you have a great chance of getting the run in no matter what? i think that's rash.

50 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:08 pm

[49] Who says anything about giving up an out. In 4 of the Rays 5 squeezes, the batter reached safely.

Besides, after watching Jeter's first AB, there was good reason to think he could have another tough go at Morrow. Strategy has to be dictated by context, not theory.

51 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:08 pm

Great job Tex....don't bother running.

52 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:10 pm

[51] so the context is that jeter struck out once. not that it's the 3rd inning and almost any out would have gotten gardner in?

53 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:11 pm

[52] Now you've got it.

54 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:19 pm

Cervelli's been decoying all series. I wonder if the Yankees think the Jays are stealing signs?

55 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:24 pm

is this umpire going to give morrow any pitch that's remotely close?

56 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:26 pm

[55] Looks that way on TV, but I just checked the FX plot and only four balls out of the zone have been called strikes, and three were very close.

57 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:27 pm

Are they trying to have good ABs?

58 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:29 pm

oy canada!

59 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:41 pm

Saying the Yankees have been pathetic this weekend is an insult to the word.

60 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:43 pm

Nothing like the 3-0 pop out.

61 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:43 pm

lame.

62 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:43 pm

whats the point of giving him the green light there?

63 JeremyM   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:46 pm

If he walked, it's not like Tex would've done anything. The only thing is it's always nice to turn over the lineup on the pitcher's....first baseman's spot in the lineup.

64 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:47 pm

whew.

65 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:48 pm

Gardner has to give that ball to Granderson.

66 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:51 pm

and there it is.

that was pretty easy to call.

FUCK!!!

67 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:52 pm

That's the ballgame. Shame for Javy that the Yankees offense didn't bother to show up this weekend.

68 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:53 pm

Pretty sad that the Blue Jays fans can't even get their tired, cliched jeers in the right cadence. Get your games on, Jays fans!

69 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:53 pm

Well, *that* was predictable ...

70 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:53 pm

Guess the Yankees can go back to beating on the Orioles and feeling good about themselves. Too bad that each time they are asked to step up in class they come up small.

71 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:54 pm

[67] Shame for Andy, too ...

What a lost weekend ... and it's not like they're in Montreal, where frankly the food and women *are* an overpowering distraction ... it's fucking Toronto ... meh.

72 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:55 pm

[69] Predictable that Javy's first hit surrendered might be a home run, I suppose. But in the sixth inning? Hardly.

Three innings left.

73 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:56 pm

[71] I blame Girardi for yesterday because I thought Jeter should have squeezed yesterday too, but I am apparently in the minority when it comes to getting runs home with the bunt.

74 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:57 pm

Maybe Tex needs a day off.

75 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:58 pm

[73] yesterday was a completely different situation, and i wouldn't have complained about a bunt.

76 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 2:59 pm

If you're going to blame someone for the lack of run production so far this game, I'd have to go no further than A-Rod's dumb idea to take second in the second. No, Robbie might not have hit a double, but took away a lot of run expectancy.

77 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:03 pm

Good at bat, Cletus ...

78 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:03 pm

[76] That was a big mistake because he had come to a full stop before starting again.

79 randym77   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:04 pm

Teixeira's five strikeouts are already immortalized at Wikipedia. The feat is called a "platinum sombrero" or "olympic rings."

80 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:04 pm

With an off day on Monday, I'd think 2 innings of Mo is in order today ...

81 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:04 pm

[79] So, Wikipedia's chief source of info is Susan Waldman?

82 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:04 pm

god fucking damnit

83 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:05 pm

Disgusting...takes a hanging breakball for strike three. Yankees might as well just go home now so they can enjoy their fourth straight day off in Baltimore.

84 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:05 pm

[79] "olympic rings". that's clever!

85 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:05 pm

[79] I'm not sold on the "Platinum Sombrero" ... "Olympic Rings" is clever ... I'm going to vote for "Cuervo Sombrero", because, frankly, after that kind of performance, heavy drinking is definetely in order ...

86 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:06 pm

[80] Didn't you hear, Mo is 40 and that's not how you use a closer.

87 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:06 pm

[84] Hah!

88 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:08 pm

[87] great minds drink alike! : )

89 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:09 pm

I sure hope we get a chance to see Chad Gaudin pitch again today.

90 randym77   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:10 pm

[86] What's really interesting is six strikeouts. That's a "titanium sombrero," or "horn" (after Sam Horn, who did it in 1991).

91 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:11 pm

javy really does look good

92 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:11 pm

You know, usually when I'm doing yard work on a Sunday afternoon is when the Yankees score.

Not today. I guess score truck is in the shop. Stalled engine?

93 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:13 pm

[91] Excellent in fact. I think you can throw out the game against the Twins because they have so many lefties who hit the breaking ball.

94 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:14 pm

Cervelli better be taking pitches.

95 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:14 pm

That first strike was ball 2.

96 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:15 pm

I'd love to see Gardner try a bunt here, especially with Bautista only playing half his games at 3B. Sometimes the small plays are the ones that get neglected when a player isn't dedicated to a position.

103 randym77   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:20 pm

Yikes. I hope Frankie's okay. We're running a bit short on catchers.

[115] Heh. In this instance, I don't mind being proven wrong.

117 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:24 pm

The irony there is if the ump calls the previous pitch a ball, Jeter probably takes that one for ball 3.

118 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:25 pm

Also surprised the Jays weren't guarding the line there.

119 randym77   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:25 pm

156 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:34 pm

It's a good thing games don't end after six innings.

157 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:34 pm

Ribbies for Robbie! Huge hit and another awful decision by Gaston.

158 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:35 pm

Wait, what's this? A hit with RISP? Is that even legal?

159 RagingTartabull   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:35 pm

Robbie when all this is over I think you and I should get an apartment together

160 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:35 pm

[153] yes, more of a slash than a rip!

long layoff for javy.

joba-mo?

161 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:35 pm

Thank you, Robbie!

162 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:35 pm

[158] in canada, it is. different laws up 'ere...

163 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:36 pm

Four hits in the inning: two for the Yankkes and two for the Jays.

164 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:36 pm

why did frasor look so bewildered there?

165 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:36 pm

[160] When he pulls it RF, he's the RIPPER ... when he goes the other way, he's the SLASHER.

When he's in a funk, he's ROTTEN ROBBIE ...

166 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:36 pm

I'd really like to see Javy pitch the eighth, but I guess he isn't an "eighth inning guy".

167 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:37 pm

joba-mo?

Likely.

I'd be fine with just Mo, though ...

168 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:37 pm

[167] That's not how you use a closer!!

169 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:38 pm

[165] i can dig it!

ri simply calls him "rob"

170 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:39 pm

171 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:39 pm

that's his real, full name, too. rommie lee lewis. huh.

172 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:40 pm

Balk on Molina!

173 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:40 pm

[171] Goodness gracious.

174 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:41 pm

what a weird delivery. look where his front foot starts (on the rubber).

175 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:41 pm

our hitters have been late on everything.

176 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:41 pm

So, which sportswriter will credit the Yankees' rally to Girardi "firing up the team" by getting thrown out?

177 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:42 pm

[175] All series...so many strikeouts for both teams that is makes you wonder if something is odd in the dome...maybe the lighting?

178 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:42 pm

Damn it...could have used some insurance for Joba.

179 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:43 pm

[176] all of them.

180 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:43 pm

[174] i wonder if he ever throws to first. it should be an automatic balk.

181 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:43 pm

186 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:46 pm

I feel like I cringe on every pitch Joba throws.

187 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:47 pm

191 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:47 pm

Gulp.

192 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:47 pm

Incredible, yet predictable.

At some point, Girardi has to realize Joba is not an 8th inning guy. He is a middle reliever or a 5th starter.

193 randym77   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:47 pm

Maybe we shoulda kept Kennedy and traded Joba.

194 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:48 pm

we'll lose 7-4

(i hope not)

195 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:49 pm

[201] Girardi didn't have to make Joba an 8th inning guy though.

Oh great, it's Marte.

207 randym77   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:52 pm

Ack. No. It's Marte. Some confusion in the pen, apparently.

208 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:53 pm

The Yankees lose nothing when Pena replaces Girardi!

Sadly, they gain nothing either.

209 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:53 pm

Is Gaston really arguing for Mo? Did he watch Lind's AB against Marte in yesterday's game?

210 mehmattski   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:53 pm

Just kidding!

At least Mo got some exercise, since the Jays will tie the game and despite going 21 innings, Mo won't pitch.

211 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:53 pm

[208] It's still Girardi making the call I'm sure.

212 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 3:54 pm

Pena knows that it's important for Marte to come in and walk the lefty.

And that's that.

Good lesson in not giving up on a game in the sixth inning.

Good afternoon, all!

Dunno know what's up with A-Rod. No one seems to know.

But as soon as there's an explanation of A-Rod, someone post it please. TBS is clueless. I'll watch LoHud.

266 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:12 pm

[262] No word yet...he was in the dugout, so it can't be that serious, I hope.

267 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:12 pm

[265] yes. chad's unsure still, too...

268 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:12 pm

270 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:17 pm

[269] cool. did you catch any of the games, in person?!

271 tommyl   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:18 pm

[270] LOL no, I'm in Vancouver. Blue Jays games are covered nationally here. I might try to catch the Yanks when the play the Ms in a month, but not sure.

272 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:21 pm

[271] Vancouver, okay. Still, Canada. You should have gone.

273 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:21 pm

A-rod: tight groin.

279 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:30 pm

Arod's right groin felt a little tight. Not painful, but just a little tight. Girardi expects he'll be fine.

280 randym77   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:31 pm

Girardi thinks it's just three days playing on turf. He expects A-Rod to play Tuesday.

281 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:34 pm

[278] [279] Thanks.

Adam Jones just bunted straight back to the pitcher in a 2-2 game, runner out at second.

282 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:34 pm

[275] i've been called worse!

[276] yeah, i mean it's not terribly far from montauk, i guess. i'm really terrible with geography. but i did just buy a nice, new atlas a few weeks back! : )

[278] ah. hope he's fine.

283 jjmerlock   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:37 pm

That discussion about whether A Rod was waiving him in the whole way?

Hell NO.

As usual, A Rod had his hand raised in the "stop" position (as he ALWAYS does) and *then* started waiving the runner in who was already - thankfully - on the move.

Seriously, the Yankees need to instruct all runners at 3rd to *ignore* A Rod when he is at the plate. If there's something to utterly suck at, I mean, it's not the worst thing, but A Rod has the absolute worst reads of pretty much any player I've ever seen in terms of reading a pitch in the dirt when he's at bat.

He *always* signals "stop," and he's usually wrong.

Second thing? The idea that Flaherty and Leiter are anything but searingly painful to listen to is mindboggling to me.

Leiter is stunningly inarticulate and tends to make ludicrous statements because he's desperately trying to keep his mouth moving. He also goes after a bunch of words that are way outside his range.

Flaherty is Johnny Sunshine, and it's maddening. He should also be called "jinx mouth."

I wanted to throttle him after his mention of "no hits" predictably led to the Wells HR.

Paulie is by FAR the best booth partner. I think he is consistently insightful and he's fun as hell to listen to. Also one hell of a gentleman in real life.

I went outside for the eighth. I'll be accepting thank you's right here.

284 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:37 pm

[282] By your Canadian standards, it's pretty close to Montauk, true. You could go straight south from Westerly, RI to Montauk.
Isn't it odd that Westerly, the westernmost town in an east coast state, is on the ocean? Can't predict geography. It's like baseball.

285 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:40 pm

[281] With the way he has been swinging all season, it probably helped the O's avoid a double play. It's kind of an adaptation of Earl Weaver's old strategy: if you think you are going to hit into a double play, just strike out.

286 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:42 pm

Looks like the Red Sox have pulled their patented injury removal of a struggling pitcher.

287 jjmerlock   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:43 pm

On another topic, I hated not trying to go with Mo for two innings last night as many around here probably did - particularly knowing that Javy was going against the Homering Jays (but look how that worked out) - but I really wonder if Girardi is worried about using Mo for two.

I still don't know where his health is.

His velocity is strange, though, and I have no idea what to make of it. Where are these 93-95's coming from???

288 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:43 pm

[285] Well, it caused Scott Moore to hit a double, so it worked. Sox' pen looks like garbage these days, except for Bard. (I saw Bard throw a 91 mph change-up yesterday.)

289 jjmerlock   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:45 pm

[286] I think we looked a little silly on that one.

If the Red Sox are simply trying to look good here, they've really gone out of their way to do it, what with having Beckett DL'd for that long. Think I'm going to have to give them the benefit of the doubt on that one, lol.

290 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:50 pm

Hey, thelarmis, I just read through the thread and I'm very pleased that you thought of me when Cito decided to IBB Teixeira. I was laughing out loud at my television.

292 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:54 pm

293 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 4:55 pm

Great catch by Cameron...Orioles can't buy a win.

308 seamus   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:30 pm

btw, i missed it. was trembley fired?

309 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:32 pm

[308] Yes, right after our series.
As you can see by their play against the Red Sox, Trembley was the only thing holding back the Orioles.

310 seamus   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:32 pm

[309] ok thanks. i was kind of busy for a couple of days there and somehow missed it. yeah, i see it's made a huge difference.

311 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:33 pm

[308] yeah, a coupla days ago. juan samuel, the bench coach, is in the interim manager. he's been there for the whole weekend series against the shit sox. hopefully, he'll experience a walk-off win today! any minute now...

312 seamus   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:34 pm

okajima sporting the joba-like ERA this year.

313 seamus   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:34 pm

[311] yeah thanks to you too! and frack yeah. that'd be nice.

314 seamus   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:35 pm

or maybe not

315 Dimelo   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:38 pm

Got off a plane in the 8th inning, started listening to the game when Cano came up to bat.

I also just read William's comment [12] about Javy either giving up a slew of homeruns or striking out 12, I'm glad it was the latter. Big win, great job by Javy too.

316 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:43 pm

matsui just hit his 9th homerun

317 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:49 pm

[316] Just in that one game???

Oh, the Grit Combo has failed to score McDonald.
EIEIO!

318 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:49 pm

oh good. pony fucker ended the inning. i'd love for the oreo's to somehow win here, so they don't have to face the heart of lineup next frame...

319 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:51 pm

[317] yes. and that's just in 5 innings. they make 'em very special in japan.

good game - cox vs. torre

320 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:53 pm

ooh, the leadoff walk!

321 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:55 pm

i don't like the national league move 'em to second deal. yeah, he's in scoring position, but there's an out and the oreo's don't hit well...

now, the IBB.

c'mon Markakis. win it!

322 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:58 pm

Ballgame!

Love Nick Markakis.

323 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:58 pm

CAKE!!!

get that man a pie!

324 seamus   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:59 pm

there we go

325 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:59 pm

Juan Samuel!

he always reminded me of Ivan DeJesus, as a kid, for some reason...

326 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 5:59 pm

[321] But you only need one hit. In general, that's about a 50-50 move. With Lugo batting, the bunt is good move, I think. (He's very bad at the hitting part of baseball, and he's actually good at the bunting part.)

327 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:00 pm

O's Win! Nice way to wake up with some coffee on a Monday morning. Didn't the Sox beat them like 67,000-2 over the first two games?

328 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:00 pm

you know, it's always a really wonderfully beauteous thing when the shit sox lose. it really is.

329 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:01 pm

[327] you and RI are both in the future today! oh, and matsui has hit 9 homers in today's game. so far...

330 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:03 pm

[329] RIYank left sunny Rhode Island for this part of the world?

Off to the Immigration Bureau this morning, always a thrilling and enjoyable excursion...Yankees win makes it much better! Go Lakers!!

331 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:04 pm

[330] neh. he just linked to a futuristic post earlier, by accident! ; )

manuelito pinch hitting. tie game, man on keystone.

332 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:07 pm

manny's just not nearly as scary since he's given birth. i chalk it up to postpartum depression.

333 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:07 pm

[331] Hey thelarmis, am foggy in the mornings so don't remember if I told you this already but..pulled out of the cd rack my copy of McCoy Tyner's "Sahara" with Sonny Fortune on reeds and the one and only Alphonse Mouzon on drums! Ever heard this one? Acoustic set from the early 70s, totally brilliant.

334 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:09 pm

You forget, Mr OK, our friend thelarmis speaks always in metaphors.

335 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:12 pm

[334] Hah, it's drummer speak, poly-rhythmic!

Off to plead my case to the man at Immigration, hope to catch you guys on a game thread some time again this season if we have any more night games!

336 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:16 pm

[333] i believe i've heard of that title, but no, i've never heard it and didn't know the personnel. i'm sure it's smokin'

good luck, illegal alien! : )

337 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:20 pm

Okay, OK, sayonara.
Ciao, thelarmis. Three against two, baby.

338 thelarmis   ~  Jun 6, 2010 6:27 pm

the way to remember 4:3 (4-over-3), is to say: "pass the goddamn butter!" : )

[say that as you tap out the rhythm with both hands]
