I'm thinking we all need to get together and pitch in for a new GPS navigation system for the Score Truck, it seems to get lost on the way to stadiums on the road:
Prior to the 14-inning affair, the Yanks exhibited some shocking home/road splits. While in the cozy confines of Yankee Stadium, the Bombers hit .316/.394/.515. That’s an entire lineup of Alex Rodriguez in a down season. On the road, though, the team ekes out just a .258/.341/.395 line, and that doesn’t include today’s 8-for-47 debacle. The numbers are subject to a small sample size warning, but right now, the Yanks are a team built for their home stadium.
I'm going to miss the game but will check in on the comments later. Hopefully, Javy won't be putting out the fire with gasoline. He does give up the long ball when he's not sharp, and uh, I guess the Jays can hit the long ball.
April 24 @ Angels
May 7 @ Red Sox
May 8 @ Red Sox
May 14 vs Twins
May 15 vs Twins
May 17 vs Red Sox
May 25 @ Twins
May 26 @Twins
In 17 games played against better that are currently better than .500 teams since April 21.
And thanks to your cutoff (randomly in the middle of the Oakland series), the count conveniently leaves off five wins against the A's and Rangers, who are both above .500.
[20] I would prefer to judge how impressive a victory over a certain team is based on the team's record after 55 games rather than the team's record after 14 games.
For example, which seems more reasonable: are the Rangers a .357 team (win percentage on April 21) or are they a .545 team (record today)?
if po shows he can catch i hope cashman thinks about getting a real dh that can play ofut field a bit, as i think frankie b has turned back into a pumpkin.
Girardi must be watching enough of these games to realize his team is really struggling, right? So, for the second straight game he eschews a perfect opportunity for a squeeze play with an excellent bunter in Jeter.
Joe Maddon has already helped his team win 5 games with a successful squeeze, but Girardi can't be bothered.
[47] How about just because the Yankees offense has struggled in Toronto, Jeter is a great bunter, the Jays have an outfielder playing 3B, Gardner has tremendous speed at 3B, Morrow has looked very strong and Jeter seemed over matched in his first AB.
[49] Who says anything about giving up an out. In 4 of the Rays 5 squeezes, the batter reached safely.
Besides, after watching Jeter's first AB, there was good reason to think he could have another tough go at Morrow. Strategy has to be dictated by context, not theory.
If he walked, it's not like Tex would've done anything. The only thing is it's always nice to turn over the lineup on the pitcher's....first baseman's spot in the lineup.
Guess the Yankees can go back to beating on the Orioles and feeling good about themselves. Too bad that each time they are asked to step up in class they come up small.
What a lost weekend ... and it's not like they're in Montreal, where frankly the food and women *are* an overpowering distraction ... it's fucking Toronto ... meh.
[71] I blame Girardi for yesterday because I thought Jeter should have squeezed yesterday too, but I am apparently in the minority when it comes to getting runs home with the bunt.
If you're going to blame someone for the lack of run production so far this game, I'd have to go no further than A-Rod's dumb idea to take second in the second. No, Robbie might not have hit a double, but took away a lot of run expectancy.
Disgusting...takes a hanging breakball for strike three. Yankees might as well just go home now so they can enjoy their fourth straight day off in Baltimore.
[79] I'm not sold on the "Platinum Sombrero" ... "Olympic Rings" is clever ... I'm going to vote for "Cuervo Sombrero", because, frankly, after that kind of performance, heavy drinking is definetely in order ...
I'd love to see Gardner try a bunt here, especially with Bautista only playing half his games at 3B. Sometimes the small plays are the ones that get neglected when a player isn't dedicated to a position.
[225] Gardner usually takes a while to read the pitcher. If he could get better at that, he'd be lethal. Right now, he really steals bases using just his speed.
lewis should not be able to go to 1st with his delivery. he starts with his front foot behind his back leg. how can he possible not cross the plane of his back leg?
[270] LOL no, I'm in Vancouver. Blue Jays games are covered nationally here. I might try to catch the Yanks when the play the Ms in a month, but not sure.
[273] It does have it's high points. I just wish they understood how to make bagels (especially salt bagels), pizza and pickles. They have no understanding of beer either, sigh. Stella is not good Belgian beer.
That said, there's a great Vietnamese Pho place down my street...
[276] yeah, i mean it's not terribly far from montauk, i guess. i'm really terrible with geography. but i did just buy a nice, new atlas a few weeks back! : )
That discussion about whether A Rod was waiving him in the whole way?
Hell NO.
As usual, A Rod had his hand raised in the "stop" position (as he ALWAYS does) and *then* started waiving the runner in who was already - thankfully - on the move.
Seriously, the Yankees need to instruct all runners at 3rd to *ignore* A Rod when he is at the plate. If there's something to utterly suck at, I mean, it's not the worst thing, but A Rod has the absolute worst reads of pretty much any player I've ever seen in terms of reading a pitch in the dirt when he's at bat.
He *always* signals "stop," and he's usually wrong.
Second thing? The idea that Flaherty and Leiter are anything but searingly painful to listen to is mindboggling to me.
Leiter is stunningly inarticulate and tends to make ludicrous statements because he's desperately trying to keep his mouth moving. He also goes after a bunch of words that are way outside his range.
Flaherty is Johnny Sunshine, and it's maddening. He should also be called "jinx mouth."
I wanted to throttle him after his mention of "no hits" predictably led to the Wells HR.
Paulie is by FAR the best booth partner. I think he is consistently insightful and he's fun as hell to listen to. Also one hell of a gentleman in real life.
I went outside for the eighth. I'll be accepting thank you's right here.
[282] By your Canadian standards, it's pretty close to Montauk, true. You could go straight south from Westerly, RI to Montauk.
Isn't it odd that Westerly, the westernmost town in an east coast state, is on the ocean? Can't predict geography. It's like baseball.
[281] With the way he has been swinging all season, it probably helped the O's avoid a double play. It's kind of an adaptation of Earl Weaver's old strategy: if you think you are going to hit into a double play, just strike out.
On another topic, I hated not trying to go with Mo for two innings last night as many around here probably did - particularly knowing that Javy was going against the Homering Jays (but look how that worked out) - but I really wonder if Girardi is worried about using Mo for two.
I still don't know where his health is.
His velocity is strange, though, and I have no idea what to make of it. Where are these 93-95's coming from???
[285] Well, it caused Scott Moore to hit a double, so it worked. Sox' pen looks like garbage these days, except for Bard. (I saw Bard throw a 91 mph change-up yesterday.)
[286] I think we looked a little silly on that one.
If the Red Sox are simply trying to look good here, they've really gone out of their way to do it, what with having Beckett DL'd for that long. Think I'm going to have to give them the benefit of the doubt on that one, lol.
Hey, thelarmis, I just read through the thread and I'm very pleased that you thought of me when Cito decided to IBB Teixeira. I was laughing out loud at my television.
[294] Credit for Olympic Rings belongs to Eric Nadel, who texted the phrase to Susan Waldman during yesterday's game. Before that, I'd never heard of it.
[308] yeah, a coupla days ago. juan samuel, the bench coach, is in the interim manager. he's been there for the whole weekend series against the shit sox. hopefully, he'll experience a walk-off win today! any minute now...
Got off a plane in the 8th inning, started listening to the game when Cano came up to bat.
I also just read William's comment [12] about Javy either giving up a slew of homeruns or striking out 12, I'm glad it was the latter. Big win, great job by Javy too.
[321] But you only need one hit. In general, that's about a 50-50 move. With Lugo batting, the bunt is good move, I think. (He's very bad at the hitting part of baseball, and he's actually good at the bunting part.)
[331] Hey thelarmis, am foggy in the mornings so don't remember if I told you this already but..pulled out of the cd rack my copy of McCoy Tyner's "Sahara" with Sonny Fortune on reeds and the one and only Alphonse Mouzon on drums! Ever heard this one? Acoustic set from the early 70s, totally brilliant.
I'm thinking we all need to get together and pitch in for a new GPS navigation system for the Score Truck, it seems to get lost on the way to stadiums on the road:
from RAB
I'm going to miss the game but will check in on the comments later. Hopefully, Javy won't be putting out the fire with gasoline. He does give up the long ball when he's not sharp, and uh, I guess the Jays can hit the long ball.
SCORE TRUCK INDEED!
Let's go BOYS
All right, just finished mowing the lawn just in time for first pitch!
Aside from their perennial whipping boys the Twins, the Yankees have one victory over a better than .500 team since April 21.
[4] Seems a bit artificial, since (whipping boys or not) the Twins are a first place team with the same record as the Red Sox and Blue Jays.
Nice to see the boys picking up where they left off yesterday.
And the Jays outfield is too.
[5] Artifical or not, even 5 wins since April 21 isn't so hot.
Gah. That was *well* struck.
I assume this has already been covered, but what's up with Bob Lorenz doing play-by-play? Did Michael Kay have trouble crossing the border?
Well, at least it wasn't a K ...
[9] Kay never comes North. Not sure if it's ever been explained why that is ...
Vazquez will either give up 4 HRs or strikeout 10+
[3] Dang. I still have to do that.
Is it just me or are the cameras at whatever-the-name-is where the Blue Jays play sort of in odd locations.
how bad does teixeira have to get before he's moved out of the 3 spot?
WTF was that?
Yay
Boo.
Wtf was that horse shit?
[7] I count eight wins:
April 24 @ Angels
May 7 @ Red Sox
May 8 @ Red Sox
May 14 vs Twins
May 15 vs Twins
May 17 vs Red Sox
May 25 @ Twins
May 26 @Twins
In 17 games played against better that are currently better than .500 teams since April 21.
And thanks to your cutoff (randomly in the middle of the Oakland series), the count conveniently leaves off five wins against the A's and Rangers, who are both above .500.
[14] Full season's worth, I'm guessing.
[18] The Angels and Red Sox were not over .500 at the time. Only the Twins.
Awful baseball all weekend.
[11] I like to think he killed a man--it's the romantic in me.
[18] As for the random cut-off, that is the point of "since a date".
[22] :}
ujst turned on the game - good to see no tor hrs yet
[20] I would prefer to judge how impressive a victory over a certain team is based on the team's record after 55 games rather than the team's record after 14 games.
For example, which seems more reasonable: are the Rangers a .357 team (win percentage on April 21) or are they a .545 team (record today)?
[22] Nah...it's the waters. I think Kay was misinformed though.
[24] :)
[25] A team's record at the time is often more indicative of how they are playing at that point.
Over/Under on beer intake on the guy who keeps yelling random stuff just to hear his own echo?
that was pretty good work javy.
the score truck isn't this god damn ford edge is it?
if po shows he can catch i hope cashman thinks about getting a real dh that can play ofut field a bit, as i think frankie b has turned back into a pumpkin.
Good Lord, that man can run.
That thing stayed up so long I was sure it would be caught.
Gritner on turf is a menace!
nice slash gritner.
Sweet.
Are we going to see Score Truck this inning?
ooh an old friend there with molina and the snap throw.
Yay unnecessary slide!
I remember when Joba threw this hard as a starter ... sigh.
Jesus.
Ghastly.
That's our lost weekend, encapsulated in a single sad, sad swing
[38] oh lord cult, it is too early for joba talk today :}
Oh, sweet Jesus.
god damnit a triple followed by 2 k's
Triple with one out and can't get him home? yeesh.
Off to do some lawn mowing -- less excruciating than watching the so called Yankee "offense."
Nice lead off walk of Molina. That bodes well for the inning.
[45] you would have had jeter bunt with 1 out and a runner on 3rd? just because the yankees have lost 2 games in a row?
[47] How about just because the Yankees offense has struggled in Toronto, Jeter is a great bunter, the Jays have an outfielder playing 3B, Gardner has tremendous speed at 3B, Morrow has looked very strong and Jeter seemed over matched in his first AB.
[48] it was the 3rd inning. you're gonna give up an out when you have a great chance of getting the run in no matter what? i think that's rash.
[49] Who says anything about giving up an out. In 4 of the Rays 5 squeezes, the batter reached safely.
Besides, after watching Jeter's first AB, there was good reason to think he could have another tough go at Morrow. Strategy has to be dictated by context, not theory.
Great job Tex....don't bother running.
[51] so the context is that jeter struck out once. not that it's the 3rd inning and almost any out would have gotten gardner in?
[52] Now you've got it.
Cervelli's been decoying all series. I wonder if the Yankees think the Jays are stealing signs?
is this umpire going to give morrow any pitch that's remotely close?
[55] Looks that way on TV, but I just checked the FX plot and only four balls out of the zone have been called strikes, and three were very close.
Are they trying to have good ABs?
oy canada!
Saying the Yankees have been pathetic this weekend is an insult to the word.
Nothing like the 3-0 pop out.
lame.
whats the point of giving him the green light there?
If he walked, it's not like Tex would've done anything. The only thing is it's always nice to turn over the lineup on the pitcher's....first baseman's spot in the lineup.
whew.
Gardner has to give that ball to Granderson.
and there it is.
that was pretty easy to call.
FUCK!!!
That's the ballgame. Shame for Javy that the Yankees offense didn't bother to show up this weekend.
Pretty sad that the Blue Jays fans can't even get their tired, cliched jeers in the right cadence. Get your games on, Jays fans!
Well, *that* was predictable ...
Guess the Yankees can go back to beating on the Orioles and feeling good about themselves. Too bad that each time they are asked to step up in class they come up small.
[67] Shame for Andy, too ...
What a lost weekend ... and it's not like they're in Montreal, where frankly the food and women *are* an overpowering distraction ... it's fucking Toronto ... meh.
[69] Predictable that Javy's first hit surrendered might be a home run, I suppose. But in the sixth inning? Hardly.
Three innings left.
[71] I blame Girardi for yesterday because I thought Jeter should have squeezed yesterday too, but I am apparently in the minority when it comes to getting runs home with the bunt.
Maybe Tex needs a day off.
[73] yesterday was a completely different situation, and i wouldn't have complained about a bunt.
If you're going to blame someone for the lack of run production so far this game, I'd have to go no further than A-Rod's dumb idea to take second in the second. No, Robbie might not have hit a double, but took away a lot of run expectancy.
Good at bat, Cletus ...
[76] That was a big mistake because he had come to a full stop before starting again.
Teixeira's five strikeouts are already immortalized at Wikipedia. The feat is called a "platinum sombrero" or "olympic rings."
With an off day on Monday, I'd think 2 innings of Mo is in order today ...
[79] So, Wikipedia's chief source of info is Susan Waldman?
god fucking damnit
Disgusting...takes a hanging breakball for strike three. Yankees might as well just go home now so they can enjoy their fourth straight day off in Baltimore.
[79] "olympic rings". that's clever!
[79] I'm not sold on the "Platinum Sombrero" ... "Olympic Rings" is clever ... I'm going to vote for "Cuervo Sombrero", because, frankly, after that kind of performance, heavy drinking is definetely in order ...
[80] Didn't you hear, Mo is 40 and that's not how you use a closer.
[84] Hah!
[87] great minds drink alike! : )
I sure hope we get a chance to see Chad Gaudin pitch again today.
[86] What's really interesting is six strikeouts. That's a "titanium sombrero," or "horn" (after Sam Horn, who did it in 1991).
javy really does look good
You know, usually when I'm doing yard work on a Sunday afternoon is when the Yankees score.
Not today. I guess score truck is in the shop. Stalled engine?
[91] Excellent in fact. I think you can throw out the game against the Twins because they have so many lefties who hit the breaking ball.
Cervelli better be taking pitches.
That first strike was ball 2.
Geez...did he get hit in the face?
Nope...the shoulder.
ouchie!
Shoulder.
Don't be braining Frankie.
Left shoulder. Way to duck and cover, big guy.
[94] yeah, he took it right in the shoulder!
I'd love to see Gardner try a bunt here, especially with Bautista only playing half his games at 3B. Sometimes the small plays are the ones that get neglected when a player isn't dedicated to a position.
Yikes. I hope Frankie's okay. We're running a bit short on catchers.
Ow. FUCK. Ow.
That hit bone...I hope Gardner is ok.
jesus friggin' christ.
god, i hope his hand's okay!
double steal!
[105] Ditto.
Please Jeter, don't hit into a double play.
Well outside...awful call.
2 on, no outs. Why do I think the Yankees won't score.
capitan!
Huge hit by the Captain.
YES!
FINALLY!!!
[111] go mow your lawn again! ; )
[115] Heh. In this instance, I don't mind being proven wrong.
The irony there is if the ump calls the previous pitch a ball, Jeter probably takes that one for ball 3.
Also surprised the Jays weren't guarding the line there.
And goodbye, Scott Downs.
C'mon, Swish. Make 'em pay for both those HBPs.
Swish has to get this done because if it falls into Tex' lap, he might explode.
don't bunt, Swish!
How could you take that pitch!!!
There's your squeeze, William!
What he is looking for? Two pitches down the damn middle.
horseshit!
Run damn it! With a man on third you have to run. That's in excusable. Absolutely fucking inexcusable.
And goodbye Girardi.
GET. THROWN. OUT.
ahhhh, thank you.
[123] It would have been a good play. We've seen Swisher have countless awful ABs in these situations.
not even fucking close.
FUCK YOU, BLUE!!!
we best win this frickin' game.
Have the Jays been watching?
ooh, RI is gonna LOVE this - walking the bases loaded to face A-Rod.
this should bite cito in the butt. (i hope!)
Wow. Another AWFUL call from an umpire ... like *that's* an unusual occurrence ...
Awful call.
IBB to Teix?
This is a terrible move by Gaston. Make em pay, A-Rod!
terrible call.
why the fuck would they not pitch to teixeira here?
Walking Tex to get to A-Rod?
I don't think I'd do this if I were them.
i do hope that dumb ump watches the replay of that and realizes what a fool he is.
This is such a bad decision, it will probably work. That's how things have gone.
[136] Hoping for a DP. I think it's dumb, though.
Yes Gardner!
sad panda
Thank. You. Brett.
beautiful!
i'm glad gritner ignored a-rod. dumb to stop him...
oh wait - first alex said stop, then waved him in.
base hit, please!
[144] Huh? Alex was waving him home all the way ...
FUCK!
HA!!! : /
Apparently the Yankees don't swing at pitches down the middle. Both Swisher and Arod flat out choked in this inning.
Oh well, no bases loaded, no big hit from Alex ...
[148] i agree. they each missed broadway pitches.
If not for the Jays help (two HBPs and a wild pitch), the Yankees probably still wouldn't have any runs. What a disgrace.
robbie is so psyched to bat with risp. i love it!
rip one, ripper!
I call SLASHER here ...
[151] i was thinkin' that...
ROBBIE!!!!
[153] YUP.
It's a good thing games don't end after six innings.
Ribbies for Robbie! Huge hit and another awful decision by Gaston.
Wait, what's this? A hit with RISP? Is that even legal?
Robbie when all this is over I think you and I should get an apartment together
[153] yes, more of a slash than a rip!
long layoff for javy.
joba-mo?
Thank you, Robbie!
[158] in canada, it is. different laws up 'ere...
Four hits in the inning: two for the Yankkes and two for the Jays.
why did frasor look so bewildered there?
[160] When he pulls it RF, he's the RIPPER ... when he goes the other way, he's the SLASHER.
When he's in a funk, he's ROTTEN ROBBIE ...
I'd really like to see Javy pitch the eighth, but I guess he isn't an "eighth inning guy".
joba-mo?
Likely.
I'd be fine with just Mo, though ...
[167] That's not how you use a closer!!
[165] i can dig it!
ri simply calls him "rob"
rommie? that's an unfortunate name...
that's his real, full name, too. rommie lee lewis. huh.
Balk on Molina!
[171] Goodness gracious.
what a weird delivery. look where his front foot starts (on the rubber).
our hitters have been late on everything.
So, which sportswriter will credit the Yankees' rally to Girardi "firing up the team" by getting thrown out?
[175] All series...so many strikeouts for both teams that is makes you wonder if something is odd in the dome...maybe the lighting?
Damn it...could have used some insurance for Joba.
[176] all of them.
[174] i wonder if he ever throws to first. it should be an automatic balk.
[178] geico is closed on sundays.
Yo guys.
Can't believe they walked Teixeira.
That was a strike.
christ almighty.
Have to make that play.
I feel like I cringe on every pitch Joba throws.
Well, at least now we have the "my hat" defense employed ... how can we lose?
jesus fucking h. christ
Yeesh. That sucked!
Like I said, 2 innings of Mo ...
Gulp.
Incredible, yet predictable.
At some point, Girardi has to realize Joba is not an 8th inning guy. He is a middle reliever or a 5th starter.
Maybe we shoulda kept Kennedy and traded Joba.
we'll lose 7-4
(i hope not)
wow, that was gorgeous!
what a powerful shovel throw that was from robbie. my god!
Awesome.
Whoa. It's Mo!
4-out save for our Moliness!
Hey, Mo for the 4-out save!
Girardi is hilarious.
[192] Not really Girardi's call.
thanks to tbs for enabling me to watch Mr. Mo! : )
[202] Same here!
Is everyone else watching YES?
No way.
wait. wtf?
[201] Girardi didn't have to make Joba an 8th inning guy though.
Oh great, it's Marte.
Ack. No. It's Marte. Some confusion in the pen, apparently.
The Yankees lose nothing when Pena replaces Girardi!
Sadly, they gain nothing either.
Is Gaston really arguing for Mo? Did he watch Lind's AB against Marte in yesterday's game?
Just kidding!
At least Mo got some exercise, since the Jays will tie the game and despite going 21 innings, Mo won't pitch.
[208] It's still Girardi making the call I'm sure.
Pena knows that it's important for Marte to come in and walk the lefty.
whew! thankfully, that worked!
shake it off, Mo!
World Series vintage Marte!
Wow!
Made him look just stoopid.
Bravo, Damaso!
and now Mo in the 9th, right? RIGHT?!?!
instead of...
HA!
it's...
PSYCH!
Marte gets the job done!
Must be opposite day.
[216] I don't know...Chan Ho looked awfully good yesterday.
[218] Pena is sometimes able to flip the Opposite Switch.
Frankie and Robbie sure are close
steal
NOW!
Absolute gift...two of those were clear strikes.
[222] Molina does make you think twice.
Gardner was leaning back to first base as Lewis was dealing to the plate there.
steal third.
NOW!
[233] Yep, no doubt about it.
The crappy ump giveth, the crappy ump taketh away.
But dammit if Brett had stolen...
STEAL 3RD.
.
.!!
.!!!
Advance the runner. Good job.
[224] don't think twice, it's alright! : )
[227] does your tbs have a future feed?!
[231] Yep.
Maybe another time around the league. It seems like something you could learn.
Swisher!! He had third base stolen.
No. NOT a hit and run.
STEAL 3RD.
[233] [227] Awesome.
Frug.
[233] Huh? I wrote that right after Gardne advanced to second on Jeter's chop.
what in the goddamn FUCK, blue?!
assface.
Above the belt ... nice time to start calling that ...
Damn it...need more HBPs to score.
Oh, now I get it! I meant [223].
[239] your [227] referenced [233] before it existed!
you meant [223] and i was just being silly. of course, i ended up with [233].
perfect!
Okay, well, one more Pena Shuffle to confuse the Blue Jay hitters, and we'll be in great shape.
Great, Arod had to leave the game.
Key batter here...Wells has an OPS of 1.127 vs. Mo.
wow. nice play el nino!
Pena pays some dividends...very, very nice play.
when & why did alex leave the game?
I will give Teix this, he doesn't take the at bats out into the field with his gloves ...
The TBS guys didn't know A-Rod was out of the game. I think they're still confused.
Now they notice it was Pena.
Wow...great positioning.
perfect positioning robbie!
that ball was roped.
is a-rod hurt???
Hmmm, Mo's got some velocity the last couple of appearances ...
pena wanted pena.
yay, we WON!!! : )
Thanks be to Mo!
Mo.
5 pitches.
thank you, mo!!!
That's the outcome we should have seen in the 2003 World Series.
Nice job Mo...big win for the Yanks.
And that's that.
Good lesson in not giving up on a game in the sixth inning.
Good afternoon, all!
Dunno know what's up with A-Rod. No one seems to know.
nobody on the announcing team stood out as great, but nobody sucked, either. it was pleasant.
[261] Don't think anyone here really needs to learn the lesson...we are still watching after all :)
But as soon as there's an explanation of A-Rod, someone post it please. TBS is clueless. I'll watch LoHud.
[262] No word yet...he was in the dugout, so it can't be that serious, I hope.
[265] yes. chad's unsure still, too...
yeah, hopefully it was just a defensive replacement 'coz of the turf...
No word yet on LoHud. I'm in Canada, so watching Rogers, nothing on there.
[269] cool. did you catch any of the games, in person?!
[270] LOL no, I'm in Vancouver. Blue Jays games are covered nationally here. I might try to catch the Yanks when the play the Ms in a month, but not sure.
[271] Vancouver, okay. Still, Canada. You should have gone.
[271] ah. yeah, that's a little far away!
i hear vancouver is a pretty *awesome* city!
[272] rhode island is practically canada. you should have been there.
[274] You're so parochial.
Actually, I've had more than one person ask me if Rhode Island is part of New York. Maybe thinking of Long Island?
[273] It does have it's high points. I just wish they understood how to make bagels (especially salt bagels), pizza and pickles. They have no understanding of beer either, sigh. Stella is not good Belgian beer.
That said, there's a great Vietnamese Pho place down my street...
A-rod: tight groin.
Arod's right groin felt a little tight. Not painful, but just a little tight. Girardi expects he'll be fine.
Girardi thinks it's just three days playing on turf. He expects A-Rod to play Tuesday.
[278] [279] Thanks.
Adam Jones just bunted straight back to the pitcher in a 2-2 game, runner out at second.
[275] i've been called worse!
[276] yeah, i mean it's not terribly far from montauk, i guess. i'm really terrible with geography. but i did just buy a nice, new atlas a few weeks back! : )
[278] ah. hope he's fine.
Looks like the Red Sox have pulled their patented injury removal of a struggling pitcher.
[290] Speaking of Tex, I think "Olympic Rings" is kind of genius.
The Orioles are just absolutely awful. Just an awful bad baseball team. I hope they stay that way for the next three games.
The O's are trying to give it back.
[291] It is, only this is the first I've heard of it. Where did you get it?
[290] : )
[291] yeah, olympic rings is all kindsa awesome.
c'mon will ohman!
[293] there was a link earlier in the thread to the wiki page on strikeouts in a game. olympic rings is there....
fuck will ohman.
and fuck that little pony fucker.
[294] Credit for Olympic Rings belongs to Eric Nadel, who texted the phrase to Susan Waldman during yesterday's game. Before that, I'd never heard of it.
another bad call on a stolen base for the dodgers vs. the braves...
melky broke an 0-12 w/ a single before...
Well, Ohman got Big Popup.
Oh, MAN!
It would be cool if the Orioles won in 17 innings, wrecking every arm in their bullpen for us.
[299] No!! Keep those arms healthy...they are the only pitchers the Yankees have been able to hit lately (along with the Indians bullpen).
c'mon tejada!
Hm, Papelbon in the bottom of the ninth, tie game.
Doesn't Tito know anything? Closers are for when you're winning. Moron.
[302] papelbitch isn't 40.
lohud has a post on a-rod.
he'll gladly play tuesday, for a hamburger today...
[304] Never knew Alex was so Wimpy.
I do like the turn of phrase, "There would have gone my groin."
Wow, a little further and Papelbon would have worn an L at the hands of Lou Montanez!
Great catch by Cameron...Orioles can't buy a win.
btw, i missed it. was trembley fired?
[308] Yes, right after our series.
As you can see by their play against the Red Sox, Trembley was the only thing holding back the Orioles.
[309] ok thanks. i was kind of busy for a couple of days there and somehow missed it. yeah, i see it's made a huge difference.
[308] yeah, a coupla days ago. juan samuel, the bench coach, is in the interim manager. he's been there for the whole weekend series against the shit sox. hopefully, he'll experience a walk-off win today! any minute now...
okajima sporting the joba-like ERA this year.
[311] yeah thanks to you too! and frack yeah. that'd be nice.
or maybe not
Got off a plane in the 8th inning, started listening to the game when Cano came up to bat.
I also just read William's comment [12] about Javy either giving up a slew of homeruns or striking out 12, I'm glad it was the latter. Big win, great job by Javy too.
matsui just hit his 9th homerun
[316] Just in that one game???
Oh, the Grit Combo has failed to score McDonald.
EIEIO!
oh good. pony fucker ended the inning. i'd love for the oreo's to somehow win here, so they don't have to face the heart of lineup next frame...
[317] yes. and that's just in 5 innings. they make 'em very special in japan.
good game - cox vs. torre
ooh, the leadoff walk!
i don't like the national league move 'em to second deal. yeah, he's in scoring position, but there's an out and the oreo's don't hit well...
now, the IBB.
c'mon Markakis. win it!
Ballgame!
Love Nick Markakis.
CAKE!!!
get that man a pie!
there we go
Juan Samuel!
he always reminded me of Ivan DeJesus, as a kid, for some reason...
[321] But you only need one hit. In general, that's about a 50-50 move. With Lugo batting, the bunt is good move, I think. (He's very bad at the hitting part of baseball, and he's actually good at the bunting part.)
O's Win! Nice way to wake up with some coffee on a Monday morning. Didn't the Sox beat them like 67,000-2 over the first two games?
you know, it's always a really wonderfully beauteous thing when the shit sox lose. it really is.
[327] you and RI are both in the future today! oh, and matsui has hit 9 homers in today's game. so far...
[329] RIYank left sunny Rhode Island for this part of the world?
Off to the Immigration Bureau this morning, always a thrilling and enjoyable excursion...Yankees win makes it much better! Go Lakers!!
[330] neh. he just linked to a futuristic post earlier, by accident! ; )
manuelito pinch hitting. tie game, man on keystone.
and, yes - Go Lakers!
manny's just not nearly as scary since he's given birth. i chalk it up to postpartum depression.
You forget, Mr OK, our friend thelarmis speaks always in metaphors.
[334] Hah, it's drummer speak, poly-rhythmic!
Off to plead my case to the man at Immigration, hope to catch you guys on a game thread some time again this season if we have any more night games!
[333] i believe i've heard of that title, but no, i've never heard it and didn't know the personnel. i'm sure it's smokin'
good luck, illegal alien! : )
Okay, OK, sayonara.
Ciao, thelarmis. Three against two, baby.
[337] i'm out too, but just in case you get this...
the way to remember 4:3 (4-over-3), is to say: "pass the goddamn butter!" : )
[say that as you tap out the rhythm with both hands]
