Oooooh.
Big one for Carl.

2 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:34 pm

why does TBS have NL guys (or guys who worked for NL clubs) covering the ALDS.

3 randym77   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:36 pm

Carlos Pena for POTG?

4 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:40 pm

Oh, man, I missed the first out, because I was so intent on the other game!

5 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:40 pm

Be phantastic.

6 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:42 pm

Hot damn.
A+ curve there.

7 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:43 pm

Nice easy inning.

8 felix holt   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:43 pm

Please, Phil.

Please.

9 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:44 pm

Hey, everyone. Glad the Rays fight to see another day...they had too good a season to just crap out in 3.

Nice first inning for Phil...good-looking curve.

10 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:44 pm

Jeez.
Rafael Soriano is no Mo.

(Obviously, but it's moments like these...)

11 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:45 pm

2 down in Texas.

12 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:46 pm

Good inning for Phil there. Let's go O

13 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:46 pm

Tamper Lives.

14 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:47 pm

I was really pullin for Texas. Oh well.

15 felix holt   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:47 pm

Pour it on, offense.

16 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:48 pm

Way the go Jeter! He's been hitting the ball hard lately.

17 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:48 pm

[14] They're still allowed to win. But they're required to use Cliff Lee in Game 5.

18 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:48 pm

[14] I just want that series to go five, while we end it here so our rotation is lined up and the other team's isn't.

19 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:49 pm

Greetings from a scout campout at oak mountain in Alabama. Between youse guys and john and suzyn I'll get through this.

20 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:50 pm

[19] That's awesome. You're on a Blackberry or iPhone or something?

21 randym77   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:51 pm

[18] Exactly. Can't make it too easy for 'em.

22 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:52 pm

I thought that was gone too being it was headed towards right field. Maybe the wind will start carrying the ball in the late innings for US!

23 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:53 pm

[20] yep blackberry.

24 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:54 pm

Jitters getting use to the pitcher and should see different results second time around:(

25 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:55 pm

Yanks don't want to score first. That would break the pattern.

26 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:58 pm

I agree that we do play better from behind. That's what she said! Ha! But being ahead at home would be nice too!

27 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:59 pm

[26] Yeah, just goofing. 10 or 15 runs now would be nice.

28 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:59 pm

[24] Oh, Jitters did fine. It was Swisher, Teix, and A-Rod who are still getting used to the pitcher.
[25] Good call. We can probably win by scoring first, but if the Twins score first, then it's a lock.

29 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 8:59 pm

Hughes bringing the heat!

30 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:01 pm

If Hughes can handle Thome, that will go a long way toward stifling the Twins attack.

31 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:01 pm

I hate that Hughes fastball is straight down the middle with little movement. Eventually somebody is going to catch up witit! Not now! Ha!

32 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:01 pm

looking philthy.

33 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:01 pm

Even better inning there for Phil. Kid seems to have it tonight, though drifting inside a bit to righties with the fastball.

34 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:01 pm

Dang.

35 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:02 pm

Only 6 outs into the game, but Hughes looks great early.

36 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:04 pm

He looks strong and he's well prepared to have a great outing today. Getting him some insurance runs early should elevate his sharpness!

37 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:05 pm

[34] shalom, sackbut!

38 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:05 pm

hey kids. At work. Listening/scoring game. :)

YANKS!

39 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:06 pm

Like you guys, I think Hughes has looked real sharp so far.

I don't know if I missed this in the other thread, but boy oh boy do I hope the Yanks play Texas in the ALCS if Washington's usual strategy is to go to Dustin Nippert after Feliz if Feliz gets into trouble.

40 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:06 pm

ROBBIE!!!

triples are cool.

41 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:06 pm

MVP!

Emma's distant cousin is not having the greatest series defensively.

42 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:06 pm

45 OsRavan   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:06 pm

nice cano! I thought that was going to get caught for a second there.

46 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:06 pm

Nothing like an inning-opening triple.

47 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:06 pm

[37] Gut Shabbos, rim shot.

48 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:07 pm

Rob doesn't triple! Must be a mistake.

49 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:07 pm

CANO!

50 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:07 pm

[38] hey, buddy! how's the new digs?

51 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:07 pm

[38] Bank error in your favor. Collect a triple.

52 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:08 pm

[47] "rim shot" - i like that!

robbie must score...

53 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:08 pm

Bah.

Bad, Marcus, Bad.

54 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:08 pm

I have to admit the announcer really gets into it! He think he's on the set with Barkley and crew! I thought I recognize his voice.

55 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:09 pm

HIP-HIP!!!

56 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:09 pm

61 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:10 pm

[53] my drummer buddy who lives in LA now played here the other nite. i hadn't seen him for like 5 years, back in NY...

62 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:10 pm

I don't know fellas. This may be a bad omen scoring FIRST! Forget that! Let's put up as much runs being back home!

63 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:10 pm

ack. grandy hit it rather hard, though....

64 RIYank   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:10 pm

Folks, I'm gonna have to leave -- my kid is playing the saxophone out in public tonight. I'm just hoping the bar will have the game on. (It's a serious Red Sox bar, but there's nothing else on tonight, right?)

65 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:11 pm

[64] Enjoy, RIYank. Hope the kid blows 'em away.

66 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:12 pm

[54]

Ernie Johnson .... a white guy with a somewhat-black sounding name.

67 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:12 pm

Man go handle your business with your kid! The Yanks will handle theirs! Enjoy!

68 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:13 pm

That's right it's Ernie J! Thanks

69 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:13 pm

nice hook!

70 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:13 pm

[64] Enjoy -- there might be a Boston area college game on -- nope, doesn't look like it.

71 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:14 pm

[50] the house is great! Been gigging a lot lately, which is fine by me. We've been painting like maniacs. Here's my son's room (y'all will love it!): http://tinyurl.com/24rnnfj.

72 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:14 pm

Phil will NOT be denied!

73 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:14 pm

This is April/May version of Hughes so far

74 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:14 pm

HUUUUGHES!!!!

75 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:14 pm

Wow, Hughes is doing what kind of plagued him all season long: finishing off hitters in short order.

76 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:14 pm

Hughes is smoking. And with the bullpen rested and Sabbathia pitching tomorrow if need be, all Hughes has to do is get to the 6th with a lead.

77 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:15 pm

What I tell you! Hughes is bringing the HEAT right down the middle! He better start dropping that sweet breaking ball!

78 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:15 pm

[64] how cool! enjoy, man. i hope your boy has a great gig!!!

i also hope he likes hank mobley! : )

79 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:15 pm

81 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:16 pm

Wow. Phil is really on. Just wow.

82 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:17 pm

Dang, Hughes workin on a no-hitter! Ha! That would be sweet to match Philly wonderboy!

83 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:17 pm

[81] house money... nothing to lose.. kid's just relaxed and slamming. Everything we fans could hope for. He's pitching relaxed and confident.

84 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:19 pm

A few runs now to drive the Twins mentally right out of the game.

85 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:19 pm

I'm glad to see how other Yankee additions steppin up to be a part of winning the Whole Thang!

86 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:19 pm

[86] thanks, dude. He loves it. haha.

It was a lot of work, but well worth it.

Be patient, Jeet!

92 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:22 pm

I'm glad the Yanks didn't trade Hughes away, but knew he was going to be SPECIAL! Sometimes it does take time for some players to grow into something special. We as fans sometimes are not patient! The Swish man at it again! Boy, Swish does carry that NY swagger!

93 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:23 pm

Score Truck! Score Truck!

94 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:23 pm

tex smoked that!!!

95 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:23 pm

YEAH, TEX! I'm telling you, his 2010 postseason is going to kick ass.

96 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:24 pm

I don't think I'm going to a game 4 tomorrow night .... and that makes me a little sad.

97 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:24 pm

Cornflake scores!!!

98 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:24 pm

My bad:( Come on mannnnnnnnnn!

105 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:26 pm

[96] Its a shame they wouldn't give you tickets to Game 3 or 4 of the ALCS instead.

106 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:28 pm

that last pitch looked pretty damn good to me...

107 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:28 pm

[105]

well ... I think I'll still have a shot at those .... but I've never been to a playoff game in any sport

108 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:29 pm

Appropriate that it would be a Span, for Emma's sake.

109 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:30 pm

let's hope hughes is fine from the stretch...

110 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:30 pm

well, that kicked ass!

111 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:30 pm

[107] I was only at one, but it was a beauty: last game of the 2000 World Series.

112 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:30 pm

Cano turns that SOOOOOO well

113 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:30 pm

Damn, I'm glad I'm not a Twins fan right now. A shred of hope just knifed down violently on one pitch.

114 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:31 pm

[107] Really? Wow. I'm surprised, Diane. I figured you had to have gone to one of these over the years. Your sadness at possibly Game 4 is even more understandable than before.

Every year I say, geez, I ought to finally go see a postseason game. I know I'll regret it if I miss seeing Mo in the Stadium in the postseason.

Baserunner? What baserunner? ;)

115 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:31 pm

Goddamn Hughes! That was an amazing 3 innings. let's gidp this bitch!

YES!

116 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:31 pm

1st pitch there looked pretty damn good...

117 felix holt   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:31 pm

First pitch of this AB was the plainest fucking strike I've ever seen in my life, and it's called a ball. WTF?

118 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:32 pm

40 pitches thru 4

119 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:32 pm

There goes the no hitter. Oh well he's still pitchin great!

120 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:34 pm

[118] 40? dammit to hell. Everytime I score a game, I figure I'll be a badass and keep track of the pitch counts. I have him at 39. ugh.

121 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:35 pm

Yanks looks like the first team to SWEEP before Philly-cheeseheads!

122 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:35 pm

The best part is that Hughes' ground ball to fly ball ratio so far is 4:3. He's been a flyball pitcher primarily in the bigs, but in the minors, he was very much a ground ball pitcher. If he could get back to that . . .

123 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:35 pm

[120] espn has the pitch by pitch so youo can fill in your mistake.

124 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:36 pm

Am I a bad person for breathing a sigh of relief when I saw the ball hit Kelleher and not Cano? (Seriously, glad he's OK.)

125 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:36 pm

Come on man getter outta the way mannnnnn!

126 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:36 pm

142 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:39 pm

151 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:44 pm

172 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:53 pm

I'm glad Jeter not hitting into double plays!

173 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:54 pm

What are they chanting?

174 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:54 pm

Come on Swish how bout a swisher shot over the right field wall?

175 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:55 pm

[173] Sounds like asshole, maybe let's go?

176 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:55 pm

STOP TELLING STORIES AND TELL ME BALL OR STRIKE!

177 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:55 pm

[175] That's what I hear, but I wonder who it's directed to?

178 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:55 pm

i really hope this long frame doesn't ill affect hughes...

179 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:56 pm

If they Yankees sweep, they will have FIVE off days before playing in Texas. That will be 7 off days for Phil, and 8 for CC and Andy.

That's not a good thing, is it?

180 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:56 pm

Now that was some Bull!

181 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:56 pm

[170] Nope, looks like some tennis court complex in Cali . . . Indian Wells I think was the name?

Is the crowd chanting "Yankees Suck"?!?!?!

182 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:57 pm

[176] How did Sterling ever get to be an announcer?

183 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:57 pm

Here's where Teixera should launch one into the Atlantic ocean.

184 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:57 pm

[177] Well the Banter is a lovefest tonight, so Yankees need some hate energy somewhere.

185 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:58 pm

Nice eye from Cornflake!

186 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:58 pm

[179] I'm not sure it matters, OYF. I'm also not sure I care who wins that series, so long as Games 4 and 5 both go into extreme extra innings (16+) and they are absolutely exhausted.

187 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:58 pm

Sweep the leg!

188 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:58 pm

[178] I was just thinking that. He was in such a good rhythm, you'd have to think it's been disrupted a little. Fortunately, he's got (at least) 5 runs to play with.

189 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:58 pm

[181] What is going on with these chants? I hear that too. So confused....

190 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:59 pm

179. I agree having too many days off can be bad for our pitchers! Or maybe not! Or if we lose, then we have an excuse then huh? Forget that! I don't care. They suppose to win PERIOD! We are not called he evil empire for nuttin!

191 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 9:59 pm

[185] why did swish all of a sudden become "cornflake"?

192 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:00 pm

[189] Could it be Carl Crawford bought 20,000 tickets to tonight's game and paid them to chant "Yankees suck"?

193 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:00 pm

[191] I was wondering that too . . .

[184] At least one of Mattpat and william - maybe both? - are at the game tonight, aren't they?

194 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:01 pm

bollocks.

195 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:01 pm

No EJ, I'm pretty sure Teix was just called out on a ball . . . but then again, I might not be in the best place to see it.

196 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:02 pm

OK Hughes, don't miss a beat here.

197 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:02 pm

[193] Confirmation!

198 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:03 pm

[157] Sorta kinda true, but 2 for 10 is a TINY sample size... and 9 of those ABs were again LH Pitchers CC and Andy.

Up until this game, only 3 Yankees were doing well.

26 pitches from Guerrrerrrerrrie + 19 from Deunsing = 45 pitches seen by 8 Yankees in the 4th. Good jorb kids.

C'mon Hughes...

202 felix holt   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:06 pm

I hope that long sit didn't fuck with Hughes's stuff.

203 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:06 pm

[201] yeah, i really don't like that guys' surname...

atta boy, phil.

204 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:07 pm

[201] very good jorb. Now do your jorb, Phil.

205 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:08 pm

What a weekend having to beat my supervisor twinkees and my Jets finishing off the Vikes on Monday night! I will be the most hated guy come Tuesday back at work! Loving it!

206 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:08 pm

i always get confused - which one is dmitri's brother: delMON or delWYN? i think it's delwyn...

207 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:08 pm

I'm getting ahead of myself, but if Andy is back to being Andy and Hughes is going to pitch like this, that more than matches up with Philly's big 3.

208 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:09 pm

[204] "jorb" - i see you're taking over for monkeypants tonight!

; )

209 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:09 pm

[206] no Delmon is Dmitri's brother. He threw the bat at the ump, too.

210 felix holt   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:09 pm

I'm hoping for a certain play here, one involving two outs.

211 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:10 pm

[208] jorb should be for [201] - that's all you, jay!

212 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:10 pm

[200] Good for AB. I bet he's enjoying himself.

william, I'm sure, is still nervous. ;)

[209] acha. thanks!

Hughes definitely overpowering thome

221 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:13 pm

That pitch was perfect! That's bullshit umpiring!

222 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:13 pm

phil getting squeezed...

223 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:14 pm

either it's affected him some, or the Twinks are getting really patient, or both.

Hughes inning-by-inning (with a missed pitch somewhere): 10, 14, 7, 8, 21 so far. (radio delay)

224 felix holt   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:14 pm

Fucking bullshit call. That was strike three.

225 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:15 pm

nice, phil! one more...

226 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:15 pm

Whether or not that was strike 3, he's definitely not as crisp as he was: two 3-ball counts already; he had none in first 4 innings.

227 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:15 pm

[223] The walk ran up the count, but that's Thome. He walks a lot.

228 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:16 pm

Hughes still throwing the HEAT! Dang! I'm impress!

229 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:16 pm

[224] I'm not that one was a strike, but ball four was DEFINITELY strike 3.

230 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:16 pm

[223] yeah, he's at 65 pitches.

66 now...

231 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:16 pm

Hughes is really getting squeezed here.

232 Chyll Will   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:16 pm

233 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:17 pm

236 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:18 pm

241 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:19 pm

[227] OK, you're right. His control is off a bit this inning.

That was a ball. Too close not having to load the bases:(

243 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:20 pm

5 innings, no runs. The rest is gravy.

244 OsRavan   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:20 pm

i never heard "cornflake" before either, but just because it is swisher I am going to guess it has to do with him being something of a "flake"

i.e its sort of people fondly calling him "you flake, you"

245 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:20 pm

[232] still no idea. but i *just* got a text from Cult. it read:
Huuuuuuughes!!!!!!

: )

246 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:21 pm

[239] Sanity? What's that?

247 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:22 pm

That's why no lead is safe! We got to get more runs and then go to the pen! Don't need to over extend Hughes. 110 pitches will be enough.

248 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:22 pm

OK, now that cheer I get: "Huuuuuughhhhesss"!

249 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:23 pm

278 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:51 pm

But let us not dwell on that now >;)

287 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 10:58 pm

296 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:01 pm

I just turned to MLBN, and caught a minute of Washington's presser.

Yay, a Swish Swat!

Anyway, Ron was saying he still had arms in the bullpen if it went extra, including Cliff Lee. Um, he's your game 5 starter, you want him for an inning 2-3 days beforehand?

297 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:01 pm

Ok Yanks call the dawgs off. Minn better throw out the white towel:(

298 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:02 pm

303 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:04 pm

Swish! How do you not love the 'tude of a
guy who puts his batting gloves on as he
jogs in from the field? Kid-like, infectious,
all in the good way.

305 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:04 pm

[300] Maybe, but I thought Ron was too clever by half throughout the game, mixing in matching too much. Yes it's a clinching game, but once you're down you still have two more tries.

306 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:06 pm

So Joba for the 8th, Kerry for the 9th, and give the 40 y.o. the night off?

307 Chyll Will   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:06 pm

[296] (Shhhh...) Yeah Ron, great idea! Go for two with Lee next chance you get...

[257] Glad to see you, weeping! Hope you've seen some of Hughes's most nasty pitches.

[271] Lots of folks from MA like to duck up across the border too for cheaper alcohol, , particularly on Sundays, as not all towns in MA allow liquor sales on Sundays.

310 PickNY   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:09 pm

It was nice hollering atcha all, but gotta go gotta go till next time. Have a bless one gents!

[310] G'night.

Gulp. I wanna shutout.

312 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:10 pm

Wood's been pitching so well, I'm happy to see him - but I do hope if circumstances demand it, Girardi won't hesitate to make a move. Not necessarily to Mo, but to Robertson or Joba or Logan or whomever.

313 Just Fair   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:11 pm

So has an official word come out on a Joba innjury? Or did he look at Girardi's wife wrong?

314 randym77   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:11 pm

I remember Danny Valencia when he was in the minors. He was a good sport, at least.

315 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:11 pm

Mo has to come in for the 9th. Just wouldn't feel right without him- if they can get out of the 8th anyway! Besides, he gets rusty without work.

316 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:12 pm

328 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:17 pm

Yeah, bring in Boone.

Never thought I'd ask for Boone Logan to come in....

329 mjpucci   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:18 pm

Why is Boone Logan warming up if he's not coming in here to face Mauer?

330 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:18 pm

Why is Kerry Wood still in this game?

331 Just Fair   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:18 pm

I hate when 5 run leads look small.

332 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:18 pm

[322] dude. nice! don cherry is all kindsa kool. 'symphony for improvisers' is terrific!

333 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:18 pm

bullshit pitch.

334 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:18 pm

That one looked good.

335 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:19 pm

d-rob dry humped.

no loogy for the lefty.

huh.

336 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:19 pm

I sense the hate is returning.

Excellent!

337 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:19 pm

I never thought I'd want to see Coffee Joe come out - WTF is going on?!

Wood was damn lucky the ump called that one a strike. Bases loaded, one out, is NOT the situation I want to see.

338 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:19 pm

NOW, he goes for the lefty?!?!?!

: o

339 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:19 pm

Godfuckingdamnit!

340 randym77   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:20 pm

Uh, boy. Boone Logan to the rescue?

341 Just Fair   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:20 pm

He was as bad tonight as he was good the other night. OY! You just...

342 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:20 pm

at least morneau isn't playing...

343 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:20 pm

I had a weird feeling Wood wasn't going to be sharp.

344 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:20 pm

[337] FUCK. One batter too late, Girardi!

Let's hope that's doesn't come back to bite us. At least Gardenhire kindly left his lefties all in a row, so Logan could be most useful.

345 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:21 pm

Kerry Wood=Kyle Farnsworth 2.0?

346 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:21 pm

[341] [343] Other numbers aside, he walked way too many guys during his time in NY. He was bound to run into trouble.

347 mhoward120   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:22 pm

Girardi, you dumb fuck - get your ass out to Chicago right now

348 Just Fair   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:22 pm

Throw fucking strikes! Whatever you do!

349 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:22 pm

[343] me too. i was fully expecting to see d-rob, then joba...

*beautiful* boone!!!!

una mas.

350 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:22 pm

YES! Good job Boone.

351 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:22 pm

BOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEE!

That's one - one more to go!

352 randym77   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:23 pm

Farnsy pitched pretty well yesterday.

353 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:23 pm

Mo. Bring in Mo, Now. Right fucking now.

354 Just Fair   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:23 pm

The Twin City banter just exploded. One more.

355 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:23 pm

roulette.

356 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:23 pm

Nice job Boone. Now who's in? Robertson? Please don't be wild tonight.

357 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:24 pm

[352] It is the NL, after all.

358 mhoward120   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:24 pm

I still hate you, Girardi

359 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:24 pm

Bases loaded, this should be Mo. If you win here, he has what, 6 days to rest?

360 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:24 pm

[352] He did, but not before hitting a batter on the hand and giving up a hit to load the bases. :) Still can't believe they were able to turn that DP, that was RISKY.

361 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:25 pm

let's go, d-rob. you did it one year ago. do it again tonite!!!

362 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:25 pm

Given Young's tendancy to strike out, and not walk, I'm comfortable with Robertson here.

363 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:25 pm

Come on kid...you can do this. 2 more strikes.

364 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:26 pm

YES so happy to be wrong!

365 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:26 pm

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

366 Just Fair   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:26 pm

Fucking Beautiful.

367 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:26 pm

Nice, nice, NICE!

And the Twins get but one.

368 randym77   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:26 pm

And they clean up Wood's mess.

369 OsRavan   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:26 pm

wheh. ::can start breathing again::

370 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:27 pm

and kerry grabs a whole lotta d-rob's ass. yikes!

371 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:27 pm

[369] exhale!

372 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:27 pm

I can't wait to hear william and Mattpat's reactions to the 8th!

Now, some more runs, please. And then I imagine we see Robertson out to start the 9th.

373 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:28 pm

goddamn. KW: 22 pitches for 1 out. BL: 1 for 1. DR: 2 for 1.

374 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:29 pm

I wouldn't mind a grand slam here in the bottom of the 8th.

375 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:30 pm

[374] You have been asking for double digits most of the night . . . it seems only fair that the Yanks should accomdate you, rbj. ;)

Thames booked pretty hard down to first. Color me impressed.

376 JeremyM   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:31 pm

I was having flashbacks to the 2000 World Series, game two. 6-0 to 6-5 in a heartbeat as I recall, with Clay Bellinger making a big catch to take back a homer.

377 mhoward120   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:33 pm

is Joba still alive?

378 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:34 pm

joba should pitch the first 2 outs, then Mo to close it.

nice, grandy! great series for him.

379 OsRavan   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:36 pm

.....am i hearing things or were they just chanting "yankees suck" at the stadium? I'm assuming im hearing things (being serious there)

380 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:36 pm

[379] i keep hearing that, too. but i'm kinda deaf, so you can't go by me...

gritner the only guy w/out a hit. get one...

381 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:38 pm

And here we go. Lead, 3 outs to go and the opening bars of Enter Sandman. I love October.

382 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:40 pm

who's this skinny guy on the mound?

383 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:41 pm

[382] Rookie, needs to get some innings in in the postseason. Taste of what it's like.

384 Just Fair   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:41 pm

Nice season, Thome. Happy Hunting!

385 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:41 pm

G-d that's just beautiful.

386 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:41 pm

MA-RI-A-NO!!!

387 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:41 pm

That's one.

388 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:42 pm

Two to go...

389 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:42 pm

I'm still not sure I would have done it, but I'd say with all the potential off days coming up, Girardi is not effing around. Good for him.

390 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:42 pm

[383] ah, i see. seems pretty good, thus far...

391 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:43 pm

One to go...

392 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:43 pm

one more!

gitchya brooms!!!

393 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:43 pm

That's two.

394 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:43 pm

[390] Low pressure with that big a lead. We'll see how he does when it counts.

395 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:44 pm

no PH for Valencia? wow.

396 rbj   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:44 pm

Sweep sweep sweep
Sweep sweep sweep

397 tommyl   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:44 pm

So that pitch was....? too perfect?

398 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:44 pm

407 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:47 pm

Diane, I'm sorry you won't be able to go to Game 4 tomorrow - but I hope you can make it to Game 4 of the ALCS!!

Sager's salmon colored suit is pretty sweet.

That purple, green, and yellow hankerchief, and whatever floral pattern are on that tie though . . . someone get this guy a wardrobe coordinator. Fugly.

408 thelarmis   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:47 pm

8 more wins...

409 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:49 pm

Well.... aside from a shitty start by CC, our rotation hasn't been too bad. Maybe we'll get lucky and win a few more games.
:-)

410 Just Fair   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:55 pm

Phil's eyes are getting crushed by champagne and he's still trying to sound collected. lol. Atta boy, Phil.

411 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 9, 2010 11:59 pm

Well folks, looks like we get some rest too, and for that I'm grateful. Good night to all!

412 Just Fair   ~  Oct 10, 2010 12:01 am

Jeter poured champagne on Kim Jones. Did that just happen? Is there anybody.........out there?

413 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 10, 2010 12:02 am

Awesome!

It's time for the ALCS ... see y'all FRIDAY!!!!

414 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 10, 2010 12:13 am
415 Chyll Will   ~  Oct 10, 2010 1:05 am

Totally unrelated, but funny nonetheless. I think they keep doing it because he always gets mad when they do it, but it's odd and amusing at any rate.

416 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 10, 2010 7:27 am

[412] Yep, I saw it too, though I had shut off the computer by that point.
