Smell Ya Later Forever

Looks like Andy Pettitte’s playing days are over. Michael Kay’s got the scoop.

It’s been a wonderful career, Andy, and we’ve appreciated watching you pitch. Thank you, kindly.

Insult to injury: Pettitte retirement news, broken by Kay. :-(

I wonder if Brackman, Betances, et. al. get longer looks in Spring Training now.

[4] I think we all know this is somehow going to lead to the return of Sidney Ponson.

Cashman loves him some Fudgey the Whale.

Let's not forget he's scheduled to testify against Clemens this summer; unless they manage to get that pushed off once again, that would serve as a bit of a distraction, no?

Noooooooooooooo!

Seriously, thanks for all the games Andy. We'll miss you (and the Yankees will miss the playoffs this year.)

I wonder if they retire his # .... give him a day during 2011?

[5] Somewhere, Aaron Small is waiting by his phone.

Can't say this was unexpected, but man was I indulging in my fantasy that Big Game Andy wouldn't be able to resist one last run for # 28.

bummer, andy will be missed. i always thought he was a bit overrated the first time around as a yank (too many postseason ass-kickings for me), but his return and his gutty postseason games in 2007, 2009 and 2010 really turned me onto what most other always saw.

[10] and before andy fans get upset, i meant i realized i was wrong and that he was not overrated and just had some bad timing with some bad games. love the guy.

13 Mattpat11   ~  Feb 3, 2011 1:45 pm

Is it OK to say I shed an actual tear or two?

(stupid baseball ...)

15 vockins   ~  Feb 3, 2011 1:54 pm

[13] visualize fourth

16 thelarmis   ~  Feb 3, 2011 1:55 pm

[14] yes, it's fine & understandable. i would be more upset, 'cept for the fact that i have eleventy billion things going on right now and there's bollocks with all of them...

Alex - or Diane... i just posted a long comment on the 'Step to the Rear' thread about Maxell tapes and it's stupidly awaiting moderation. haven't a clue as to why. i think i wrote the word sh*t in there. arrest me!!! can one of you guys go and approve that for me, please? i don't think that thread has fully died yet... 'preciate it!

17 thelarmis   ~  Feb 3, 2011 2:05 pm

oh, and THANK YOU, Andy.

i miss you already...

13) Yanks will look MUCH different re: pitching come end of July, that's what happens. Just need to be patient.

My sentiments exactly, Diane! I did too.

Fare-thee-well Andrew!

Joey Salvia must be in tears.

My lasting memory of Andy will be either an "ah shucks" post game interview with that disarming self deprecating humor or the intense air punch after a classic 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. For such a mild mannered guy off the field, he was as intense as anyone on the mound.

Some might debate his HOF credentials, but nobody can debate that he was a damn good pitcher for a long time.

We'll miss ya, Andy. Good luck in whatever life brings your way from here on out. Stay away from that creep Roger Clemens.

Andy will be missed, good luck.

24 Shaun P.   ~  Feb 3, 2011 4:12 pm

Sigh.

Thanks Andy, and God Bless. I miss him already.

25 vockins   ~  Feb 3, 2011 7:12 pm

[18] Exactly. Anyone that was disappointed that the Yankees missed out on Barry Zito will finally get to see him in pinstripes.
