"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

The Tide Turns

Well, it wasn’t going to last forever, was it? The M’s had to win sometime. Phil Hughes didn’t pitch poorly. He went six innings and was trailing 2-1 when the bullpen took over, the Yankee defense stumbled, and the Mariners hopped, jumped and skipped to a 9-2 win.

Tomorrow gives a day of rest then four games against the O’s this weekend.

Does anyone know what's going on with Nova? He is starting game 2 on Sat? And going back in the rotation? Or...?

Really hard to swallow that we've split 6 gams with the Ms this year. I'm OK with losing one game per series but even if they're a 500 team we should be winning at least 4 of 6.

Good for the M's. Was painful to watch them lose like that. Yanks will be fine.
Woke up to a heavy dose of baseball news, no-no, trades, etc. WTF is wrong with Tony La Russa that he can't get along with a 24-yr old player? Is this not the managers MAIN responsibility, player management? But this guy fights with so many players (and he's a F$ckin drunk driver too)..hate the guy. Well done Blue Jays!

Tony LaRussa so loves the stars and scrubs formula, and Berkman made it one too many stars and made Rasmus expendable

[2] The problem is that he's a lawyer. It changes you, man. And not in a good way.

Had a 5 hour drive today and was trying to find the Yankee game. Fail. But I was lucky to catch the last 2 innings of Santan's no-no. That was pretty cool. But the Indians announcer said "no-hitted' at least 5 times. Am I wrong or is this bullshit? As in the Indians have not been no-hitted in ## years. Isn't it more normal to say "haven't been no-hit in ## years?" Drove me fucking nuts. Anyhow.......Did Hughes suck?

[5] No, but the rest of the squad did.

[5] I wonder if "not for nothing" would have sufficed?

Reminds me of the kids who wander up and down the train cars selling stale candy "nahfahno" school or basketball team, but just to put a little money in their pocket and stay out of trouble...

[5] "no-hitted"? That would have greatly distressed me too.
[7] Chyll, reminds of me a time years back, I scolded my friends younger brother for not pronouncing the "s" in "cents". As in "it only costs 25 cent". (I know you know what I'm talking about!) I told the kid "Look, people are going to call you '25cent", you want a lame nickname like that forever? You'll never get famous with that.." Few years later 50Cent broke out..I wonder if my friend's little brother is somewhere thinking "Mr. OK Jazz is an a##hole.." :)

[5] Suck? No. Pitch well? No to that as well.

His velo and command were good for about 2 innings, after which both declined. As per usual, he couldn't put guys away with 2 strikes.

He was better than his last start, but giving up 9 hits to that Mariner's offense isn't all that encouraging.

[5] The passive voice rears its ugly head again!
