When I think back on being a little kid, I think of West End Avenue and 103rd street and I see sneakers hanging from a telephone wire.

Lots of hanging sneakers from telephone wire when I was growing up in the Bronx in the 60's. Funny, I never thought to try to get a pair up there myself. Maybe because my mom would've killed me if she found out.
Yeah, I never tried either. I saw this pair on my way to work this morning.
i've never understood this phenomenon. can someone please explain?!?!
can't be easy to get them up there. i've never even seen people try. but i always saw them in new york, growing up.
plus, why would anyone waste a good pair of sneakers???
4) You waste old sneakers, that's the pernt. I think it tough neighborhoods it's a gang-thing marking your territory.
My Cali nephew said it indicates that drugs are sold in the area.
