Sore knee.

Part of me can never root for the Red Sox, but the playoffs are more interesting when they are playing in them. Part of me would relish seeing them miss the postseason, but the majority of my being wants to see the Yankees sweep them in a 7 game series. Or at least beat them in the 7th game.

Besides, I would fear a Rays team that is streaking like they are. I know the Yanks don't have their pedal to the medal right now, but the Rays are some plucky guys.

Admittedly the Red Sox are still the most hated team of mine in sports, a close second is the Philadelphia Eagles. But ever since Pedro left the team, the Red Sox don't have that lightning rod guy that you just want to punch in the face. At least the Eagles have Mike Vick who is despised by fans in general, and moreso for me as an Eagles player and dog killer. I also hate the Cowboys. Seeing Jerry Jones surgically altered face (even more frozen after a loss), does warm my heart.

Let the chips fall where they may. I won't cry if the Sox lose or win. And I will be filled with all sorts of agita watching them if the Yanks and them square off. I guess I would choose the path of most resistance. You remember the playoffs when that happens.

I'm still hoping for double tiebreakers!

It's young Brandon Laird in at 3B. I saw him play a few games in Scranton. He had some pop. Looks like he's been struggling in the big leagues, though.

But ever since Pedro left the team, the Red Sox don't have that lightning rod guy that you just want to punch in the face.

Oh, I don't know, Paplebon and Lackey could use a good face punching ...

6 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:11 pm

[4] Totally, I'm rooting for 2 games tomorrow!

7 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:18 pm

Me too, rooting for tie-breakers. Now that is free baseball.

But I share some of Greg's feelings. Mainly, I dislike Papelbon but it's so hard to hate a guy as pathetic as Lackey. And Pedroia annoys me, but that's honestly more a matter of the media treatment of him than it is of him.

I wish they'd sign Schilling to pitch Game 163. Now that's an arch villain!

8 rbj   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:19 pm

Still not a sellout? Tampa doesn't deserve the team.

9 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:21 pm

Whoops!

10 rbj   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:21 pm

Thank you zobrist

11 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:26 pm

Let's see, rbj, me, cult, Greg, Randy.
There are actually fewer fans here than there are at the Trop!

12 randym77   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:26 pm

Atlanta down 1-0 already. Boy, are they pathetic.

13 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:27 pm

[11] I've got my cowbell in hand.

14 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:27 pm

[12] That's what they're saying about the Rays in Atlanta!

15 randym77   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:28 pm

[11] I seem to recall that they had trouble selling postseason tickets even that year they made the WS.

16 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:28 pm

[13] Well, okay, but I somehow don't think we're going to challenge the Trop for douch-iness, even with your cow bell.

I have my shofar.

17 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:30 pm

[7] Oh no, it's so easy, so very, VERY easy to hate that dull-eyed, slack-jawed, mouth-breathing, petulant, whiny, adultering sack of crap.

Him going to Boston is the perfect storm of getting to hate the player AND the team.

18 randym77   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:31 pm

[13] Columbus Clippers Ring Your Bell!

19 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:31 pm

[17] You did see that he's divorcing his wife ... of 3 years ... after she just completed her chemo ... for the cancer that forced her to undergo a double masectomy earlier this year?

20 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:32 pm

[16] I had to google that one. I learn something new every day at the BB.

21 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:33 pm

Uh, c'mon kid ... throw some fucking strikes.

22 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:33 pm

fuck. yanks are not on espn3...

23 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:33 pm

Hey Dellin! Throw throw the fucking ball over the plate for Mo's Sake! Cripes.

24 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:33 pm

[17] Okay, but I'm warning you that you have stiff competition in Red Sox Nation. In fact I will bet on average they hate him much more than you do.

25 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:34 pm

Its so weird to care so little about wther or not the Yankees win or lose.

26 randym77   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:34 pm

[19] What? Which player is that?

27 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:35 pm

[26] Lester.

28 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:35 pm

[26] [27] No! Lackey!
Lester is a cancer survivor himself, of course.

29 randym77   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:37 pm

[27] Really? Wasn't he the one who had testicular cancer?

30 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:39 pm

Hmmmm.
Not bad, kid!

31 randym77   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:39 pm

[28] Jeez. Does she still get health insurance if he divorces her?

I remember when Andy Phillips' wife had cancer. He wanted to quit baseball to be with her, but she pointed out that if he did, she would lose her health insurance.

32 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:40 pm

Oh Shit. My big mistake. I knew it was Lackey but stupidly typed Lester. Duh. My apologies.
They can both go screw.

33 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:41 pm

[11] i'm here!

[13] i've got my cowbell (2 of them, actually), mounted on a post - LP236C

[14] stop putting words in my mouth!

[16] t'qiah gidola!!!

34 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:43 pm

[22] Really? The game is on for me ... though I turned them off after I found out Kruk was announcing the game. Blacking that out would be a weird thing in ATL.

[24] It would be a good bet, but you'd lose. Since the SF Giants are my NL team, I've hated him since 2002, which was a double helping of hate, since he was part of the Angels team that knocked that Yankees out and ... of course, the winner of game 7 of the WS against the Giants.

Then, since I live in LA and follow and watch the teams here, I had to watch that mouth-breathing douche for years as a member of the Angels.

Then, he went to Boston, where I got to double down on my despise for him. And, frankly, all signs point to the fact he's a giant piece of crap as a human being, beyond the fact that he's a member of the Red Sox.

Nope, I don't think my loathing for Lackey takes a back seat to anyone's, well, except for his soon to be ex-wife, of course ...

35 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:43 pm

[33] Ummm. Okay, you got me. I have no idea what that means.

36 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:44 pm

[18] Thanks for that ear worm in my brain. I have to admit, though, it is rather catchy!

37 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:46 pm

I'm unusually nervous for four teams I have no rooting interest in.

38 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:46 pm

[34] yeah man, i'm not getting the yanks on espn3. they're offering the shit sox and the braves. i get each on regular tv.

nothing for the janks. : (

39 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:47 pm

c'mon cap, more hits for you!!!

40 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:48 pm

[38] Do you know how to log into a proxy site?
There's a special Vidalia browser you can use (it looks like a dumb version of Firefox) that automatically routes you through distant servers, but I'm afraid it might end up being too slow to watch video.

41 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:48 pm

dammit. c'mon oreos! : /

1-0 Boston.

45 randym77   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:49 pm

[36] I have fond memories of the Clippers from when they were the Yanks AAA affiliate. They used to play that song whenever a Clipper hit a home run, and everyone would ring their cowbells.

I think that's what prompted Deion Sanders to call Columbus a cowtown.

46 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:50 pm

[40] of course i know how to log into a proxy site! what's a proxy site?

vidalia browsers make my eyes tear.

58 rbj   ~  Sep 28, 2011 7:57 pm

93 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 8:45 pm

So Kay obviously thinks today's relievers are not on the p-s roster. I wonder whether he actually knows this or is just speculating.

150 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 28, 2011 9:37 pm

[149] You just cracked me up, big time. What he say?

151 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 9:37 pm

Heh, NESN is showing tweets from Sox fans rooting on the Yankees, thanking Teixeira, etc.

152 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 9:39 pm

[150] ah, something about fastballs and veteran batters. well, whenever he's not talking about the 40 man roster. really, anything he says; anytime he opens his mouth to speak, instead of eat...

168 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 9:52 pm

WHO IS THAT GUY?

169 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 9:53 pm

Brackman! That's who.

170 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 9:53 pm

171 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 9:53 pm

Damn, these guys are buffoons. I see what you mean about Kruk, thelarmis.

172 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 28, 2011 9:54 pm

[168] He's a lone wolf. A man without a name. He has no family, he has no friends. He seeks only one thing: the strike zone.

Thank god for Mo.

178 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 9:59 pm

179 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:01 pm

[177] Seriously, year after year there's another hot new closer but they just ain't Mo.

180 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:01 pm

ooh, bringin' in medlen. wow. he's been injured all year. just got back. huh...

181 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:04 pm

shut up, kruk. there's NO decision needed to be made about lester. he's at almost 100 pitches on short rest. no, he hasn't been "sooo good" in this game. he was wild and laboring. he got lucky and lucky defense.

stfu you fat fuck...

182 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:04 pm

[184] That means Detroit, right?

186 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:08 pm

[183] I Love "professional hitters"! Trying to think who was the uber-professional hitter of our youth..

187 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:08 pm

1 out.

heyward up. he's had a sophomore slump and a tough go all the way around. chipper had to publicly call him out...

they better pinch hit for wilson after this...

188 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:10 pm

awful ab for heyward. he's looked terrible all year.

holy crap, jack wilson to bat for himself. i wonder if gonzalez is hurt. there's the defense, but wilson already booted one...

this is ridiculous.

i bet ayala wasn't even supposed to pitch today. this is just dumb.

ya know what pisses me off. these goddamn fucking asshole announcers. it's always what the OTHER team needs to do to get back in a game, esp the shit sox. it's NEVER what needs to go right for the Yanks. never.

fuck everyone.

GO YANKS!!! after tonight, this one goes to ELEVEN!!!

204 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:21 pm

haha! sorry kruk. there's goes your 'biggest at-bat of the season'...

206 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:22 pm

Yo, relax, man. This is a meaningless game for the Yankees. If we lose, life becomes more fun, not less!

Imagine Red Sox Nation flipping over to ESPN while their game is in rain delay...

207 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:22 pm

The Sac Fly rally killer!

[206] noted. but understand, i'm either getting kruk or chip "fister" caray and this has been going on for hours. i'm losin' it man. haha!

215 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:24 pm

[209] Who needs Proctor? We have Ayala!

216 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:24 pm

OMG!

great, now Mo is gonna have to pitch...

217 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:24 pm

That's a comforting sight, though. D-Rob chatting seriously with Mo.

218 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:25 pm

Is anyone really upset about this? Put the fear of god into Boston. Make them both have to play the one game playoff/

219 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:25 pm

[216] Why? I don't get it. Why would Mo pitch?

220 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:25 pm

[218] Exactly.
But you know how drummers are. Excitable.

221 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:25 pm

[214] Jaysus, that is migraine inducing..remember when they had those guys AND Steve Phillips too?

Proctor in the 9th to seal the deal!

222 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:26 pm

oh, what's with that "SAFE" call?

puh-leeze

223 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:26 pm

Oh, Maddon. You are such a genius. Smarter than LaRussa and Scioscia combined.

224 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:26 pm

God, Kruk is such an idiot! It's just dazzling. He should be paired with Tim McCarver.

225 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:27 pm

well, let's just hope jesus and a-rod are ok...

226 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:27 pm

At the same time, I don't like rooting for the Yankees to lose. bad voodoo. The only reasonable thing is to root for Boston to lose in Baltimore.

227 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:28 pm

[224] see?!

now, switch over to caray. do this for hours. i must be nuts. shoulda gone on that date... ; )

228 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:29 pm

[226] i am doing that. definitely.

see, RI - i'm reasonable! : )

229 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:31 pm

ATL must win or go home.

I WANT 163!!!

230 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:31 pm

[224] Wouldn't that be kind of like having a shofar being blown into each ear at the same time? : )

231 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:32 pm

c'mon chipper!

232 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:34 pm

233 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:34 pm

Wow, you're right, the other ESPN crew is also ear-bleedingly bad.

Wow, what a catch!!!

234 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:34 pm

hey RI: this Schwimmer dude on the Phils - Jewish?!

[230] i always *loved* the shofar blowing as a kid. sooo cool! my favorite, of course, was T'qiah GIDOLAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! i would light up with my grandpa. : )

ooh, nice catch by the phils CFer. chipper gave it a ride to the gap...

236 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:36 pm

241 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:38 pm

[236] yeah, i actually knew that. accidentally typed it the way i'm used to seeing that name. i guess 'coz of david schwimmer...

um, that didn't really just happen. did it?!

that's...i dunno. fucked up.

i mean, it's cool for the shit sox. but, this doesn't bode well for our postseason...

264 Marek   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:49 pm

ROTFLMAO, as the kids say!

265 randym77   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:49 pm

Bringing in Scott Proctor? Ummm....

I'm afraid we're going to regret not stomping on the Rays when we had the chance.

266 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:49 pm

We get the Tigers, BTW

267 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:49 pm

Did it hit that dude in the cubes?

268 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:49 pm

imagine we run outta pitchers???

269 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:49 pm

[263] None of these guys will be in the post-season, thelarmis.

270 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:50 pm

wait. "it MIGHT have been the biggest at-bat of the season?" then, "no question." okay, kruk. thanks, man.

271 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:51 pm

Uh-oh, does the Proctologist mean that Girardi has decided that Boston is getting it up the ass?

272 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:51 pm

[269] They all will. Especially when we start playing matchuops.

273 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:51 pm

uggla up for the bravos.

274 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:51 pm

Johnson "Cool." Thwack.

Enter Proctor.
Girardi's binder knows no bounds.

275 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:52 pm

[265] Hey, I thought you were rooting for the tie! Fickle.

276 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:52 pm

uggla's not up anymore.

277 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:54 pm

lotsa free baseball...

278 T. Hawk   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:54 pm

I can't root AGAINST the Yanks - I mean you don't want to get into the habit of losing - but on the other hand, this is fun for the Rays. Unless they eliminate the Yanks I am all for putting the screws to Red Sox Nation. I think it's worth a garbage time loss or three.

279 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:54 pm

More free baseball tonight, with decent chances for more tomorrow!

280 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:54 pm

This is one of the most fun single nights of baseball I've ever seen.

281 T. Hawk   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:55 pm

Yeah if I were a Red Sox fan, I'd think there was something fishy about this. And in fact it might not be a bad idea: Not to influence who gets in but to do what you can to force an extra game which will put either team at a disadvantage.

282 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:55 pm

i really want the orioles to come back and win their game.

that would be soooo awesome!!!

283 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:55 pm

[278] Sort of where I am. I can't root against the Yanks, but I'm not torn up.

284 randym77   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:57 pm

[275] I am, but the Rays are starting to scare me.

Freakin' zombies keep rising from the dead.

285 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:57 pm

Oddly, John Sterling predicted that exactly this was going to happen.

286 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:57 pm

ugh. leadoff man on for the phils. chipper a little banged up on the dive...

287 RIYank   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:58 pm

Oh, man, Kyle Farnsworth against Scott Proctor! Wow. It's like a dream matchup. It's like a home run derby.

288 Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:59 pm

289 thelarmis   ~  Sep 28, 2011 10:59 pm

holy ridiculously HOT blonde!!!!

did you see that?!?!?! : o

453 jjmerlock   ~  Sep 29, 2011 12:15 am

Wow.

1) I surprisingly found this series no fun at all. Possibly the weirdest series I've ever been a fan during in my lifetime.

2) Hate that some of our parts we need/may need were the Rays' path to victory. Another HR from Wade? Ugh.

3) FUCK BOSTON.

The Rays are ridiculously dangerous, with the last two nights of important BP pieces of ours getting nicked I'm even less happy to be facing the Tigers in a 5 game series, but FUCK BOSTON.

Turmoil for them. Doucheface completing the collapse?

And here's what I've been holding back. Those ASSHOLES - those chuffed up, transparent, disgraceful fanboys at BSPN - THIS IS KARMA, BITCHES, FOR YOUR DISGRACEFUL ESPN THE MAG COVER.

Sorry, that one did it. I couldn't do anything but want your death with a hot, fiery passion. BSPN dropped the last piece of negligee covering the charade? Well, enjoy the shit sandwich. Everyone else is Loser City? NO, no massholes. You guys still choke with the styliest style of all. HA HA HA HA HA!

Just a reminder folks: Bud Selig wants to make sure we never see another night like this again.

The Yankees let a seven run lead slip away. More BILE for Boston fans to chew on for Yankee hating.

But the Sox deserve to lose after this month of stink. Papelbon's great season will be remembered as shitty. So sad. Tee-hee.

[454] yeah, i hate this idea of a 2nd wild card team...

457 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2011 12:20 am

Holy fuck.

So I'm looking through the box score and do you have any idea how many errors Nunes has?

Just guess.

460 thelarmis   ~  Sep 29, 2011 12:25 am

461 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2011 12:26 am

[460] He didn't say.

462 thelarmis   ~  Sep 29, 2011 12:31 am

our run diff is +210

amazingly, espn is still giving the shit sox a 27.2% chance to reach the postseason, on their standings page.

unfuckingbelievable!
