What's everyone else feeling right now? I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'd also really like the chance to see an ALCS rematch, so that last year's wrongs can be righted.

2 Raf   ~  Oct 4, 2011 7:56 pm

[1] I'm a bit tired. Whatever happens, happens. Would like to see AJ pull a nice start out of his ass.

Currently watching Phils-Cards. Bases loaded 1 out for the Cards in the 8th. Ryan Madson, Phils closer, is in.

3 Raf   ~  Oct 4, 2011 7:56 pm

Phillies up 3-1.

4 Raf   ~  Oct 4, 2011 7:58 pm

Madson out of the inning with a DP

5 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:04 pm

4) Man, Madson lucked out there.

6 Raf   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:06 pm

If they could only conference on balls and strikes...

7 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:07 pm

We got just where we want 'em.

Word to Diana!

[1] My heart is also cautiously optimistic, but my head says prepare for an ugly game. I just don't want it to be over. Seems like the team has been humming along for a few weeks, playoffs locked up, watching the Red Sox in free fall, everything falling in place. If it ends tonight, it just seems like an abrupt way to finish the season after the marathon this year, which felt much longer than other recent years.

9 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:14 pm

Man, that Albert guy is pretty good, huh?

10 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:14 pm

I'm strangely calm. I want AJ to do well, not just for the obvious reason, but also so he won't have to deal with all the crap for sucking.

11 Raf   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:15 pm

Guess Davis isn't the only blind ump...

12 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:19 pm

Everytime I hear Victorino I think of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer fed the horse Beef-a-rino. And on that note. GO YANKEES!

13 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:20 pm

For all their flaws, this *is* a got-damn professional baseball team. They'll play hard.. they know what they have to do.

LET'S GO YAN-KEES! (clap, clap, clap clap clap)

I'm at work, gonna listen to Sterling/Waldman and keep score.

14 Raf   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:21 pm

Phils win.

15 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:23 pm

[13] Dig it, man! Go YANKEES! Score early and often! PANIC IN DETROIT!

16 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:29 pm

LesssGO YANKS! Got a good feelin' about tonight!

17 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:36 pm

Let's GO!

18 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:42 pm

Fuck. Nice play. Bastard.

19 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:44 pm

Alright, predictions, Yankees win, Burnett goes 6 and allows no more than 3 and Alex gets at least 2 hits.

LET'S GO YANKEES!!!

20 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:44 pm

Throw strikes, MEAT!

21 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:46 pm

Oh, Christ.

22 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:46 pm

Take him out already

23 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:46 pm

How have the Yanks managed to walk Austin Jackson three times in two games? (Besides the obvious bad zone to CC.)

24 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:47 pm

Not a good start AJ.

25 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:47 pm

Walk the guy who has 2,000 strikeouts over the last 2 seasons.

26 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:48 pm

Careful there, guys.

27 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:48 pm

Sterling just said, "a very, very ignominius start by AJ Burnett". This college educated noob assumes that means "bad".

28 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:48 pm

Thanks, Tigers.

29 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:48 pm

Hooray for plays!

30 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:48 pm

Fuck.

31 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:50 pm

[27] Maybe he meant to say, "portentous" or "inauspicious."

32 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:50 pm

One more. Keep that shit at 3rd.

33 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:50 pm

Spring Training 2012 - "Well, we believe we've straightened out A.J.'s delivery problems and we look forward to his having a very productive season for us this year" - Brian Cashman

34 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:50 pm

These guys in the booth are killing me.

35 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:51 pm

[19] Really hope Alex whacks the ball today!

Mr. Spacely just told me we got a huge ACME meeting from 12:00, I'm going to miss the end of the game...困った!!

36 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:51 pm

This guy, him you can walk.

37 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:51 pm

AJ has a no-hitter going!

38 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:52 pm

Booooo.

Only the Tigers are allowed to use plays.

39 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:52 pm

[37] Don't jink it man....

40 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:52 pm

He doesn't know where the baseball is going.

41 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:52 pm

[39] Jink?

42 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:54 pm

[39] New addition to the Banter glossary!

43 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:54 pm

Darling just said V-Mart is batting .343 so he comes through "most of the time" batting behind Cabrera. That's not even close to logical.

44 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:54 pm

1st hit's gonna be a salami

45 jeaner   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:54 pm

I'm having trouble actually watching. I'm afraid.....

46 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:55 pm

Brutal.

47 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:55 pm

I can't take this.

48 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:55 pm

[42] Are you feeling toooptimistic right now?

49 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:55 pm

Nothing like watching a scary AJ Burnett performance to get ready for Halloween. This is brutal.

50 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:55 pm

Ohhhhhh, maybe that's why IBBs aren't so smart. Starting to catch on...

51 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:55 pm

Yay, the troll is back!

52 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:55 pm

Nostra, got a sixer of Alaskan Amber.

C'mon AJ, IT'S REDEMPTION TIME!

You've *got* this, brah.

53 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:56 pm

Thanks Smoltzie. We all know about putting stroke yips. Huh?

54 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:56 pm

Not making it out of the first.

55 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:56 pm

Still a no-hitter

56 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:56 pm

Jesus, a strike. Please. FUcking God Almighty.

57 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:57 pm

Just crapped my pants a little.

58 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:57 pm

WIthout a great play by Curtis.

59 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:57 pm

Grandy saves the bacon

60 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:57 pm

HOLY FUCK!

Jesus, what a heart attack.

61 jeaner   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:57 pm

Oh Grandy!

62 Raf   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:57 pm

*plop*

63 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:57 pm

Yes! A miracle.

64 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:57 pm

Oof. Thank you Grandy.

65 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:57 pm

Well, that was easy enough.

Next inning!

66 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:58 pm

One inning down.

God, I'm a nervous wreck. My heart leap from my chest when Curtis did that little dance out there.

Jesus, I'm getting too old for this.

67 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:58 pm

Told ya he had it.

68 jeaner   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:58 pm

[55] All due respect, STFU!

69 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:58 pm

Gotta give Smoltzie credit with the "atom" ball comment. Now AJ settles in.

70 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:58 pm

leapt

71 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:58 pm

Phew. Ok, now pull AJ.

72 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:58 pm

fuck, I just threw up in my mouth a lil.

73 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:58 pm

I wish TBS had been able to sell more than these same three ads we keep seeing over and over.

74 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:59 pm

How close to the edge does this have to get. Bases loaded on walks, then a line drive nearly over the head of Granderson. Poor Martin is already a sack of bruises.

One inning down. How does the team relax enough to hit after being in the field for this garbage?

75 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 8:59 pm

[70] Lept.

76 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:00 pm

One pitch, one out.

77 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:00 pm

Are we even trying?

78 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:00 pm

Yum, luvs me sum first pitch swingin'.

79 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:00 pm

Maybe they have a tee time early tomorrow morning

80 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:00 pm

[75] lept, leapt, wept, weapt.

81 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:00 pm

Make him work, boys!

82 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:01 pm

[77] I'm not.
I'm a fatalist.

83 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:01 pm

Fucking shift.
God, Teix is pissing me off.

84 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:01 pm

This is looking like a 1000 comment game, easily.
Got Gameday here, how were those line outs? Are they hitting it well off of Porcello?

85 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:01 pm

JESUS CHRIST! Three pitches?

86 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:01 pm

1 for his last 28 in the playoffs, atta boy Tex.

87 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:02 pm

[80] Empedokles lept; Empedokles leapt.

88 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:02 pm

Fucking pathetic.

89 Raf   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:02 pm

Hey, Teix hit it hard. That's what we want

90 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:02 pm

That was a quick inning.

91 Marek   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:02 pm

I hope A.J. had time to sit down.

92 joe   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:02 pm

Nice 6 pitch half-minute inning

93 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:02 pm

Was that a five pitch inning. WTF!?!

94 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:03 pm

[84] Teix hit it hard but into the shift. Alex hit a lazy fly ball and Nick, a lazy tapper.

95 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:03 pm

Nice, a 5 pitch inning for Porcello...ugh.

96 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:03 pm

Well, the Yankees are in a hurry. I guess they don't want to break AJ's rhythm.

97 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:03 pm

Can a guy even take a leak before we make 3 outs???

98 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:03 pm

Fuck. 17 pitches through 2 for Poorfello. AJ threw 21 in the foist alone.

99 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:04 pm

[93] Don't worry. We are killing them in Time of Possession. That has to be an advantage late in the game. Well, it works on Sundays.

100 Marek   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:04 pm

The commercial break is lasting longer than the Yanks' half-inning.

Anyone remember what Emma's charm was? She needs to work that shit. Was it a Bernie Williams bobblehead, maybe?

102 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:04 pm

Tigers are going to have to have Porcello throw a few sim innings in the pen when the game's over. You know, to get the work in.

103 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:05 pm

Strike 1!

That's a first!

104 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:05 pm

I feel like they should play the Friday the 13th theme music when they come back to action with AJ on the hill.

105 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:06 pm

Darling finally has th balls to talk about the strike zone. More aggressive means not a complete sack of suck.

106 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:06 pm

[101] RAT SHIT BAT SHIT DIRTY OLD TWAT SIXTY-NINE ASSHOLES TIED IN A KNOT. YAY! LIZARD SHIT!! FUCK!!!

107 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:07 pm

Jazz,

Is NHK intentionally trying to piss us off? They are playing the fucking Rays and the Rangers right now. WTF? I am so glad I never paid for that shit.

108 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:07 pm

Pitching in the stretch seems to mess AJ up. He can't let runners on.

109 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:07 pm

OK, Burnett's stuff is not that electric. He has a straight fastball and a hit-or-miss curve. New narrative.

110 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:07 pm

2 curveballs in a row for strikes. CHEERS!

111 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:08 pm

[106] Well, that was witchy. Charming, maybe not.

112 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:08 pm

[109] One of them suggested his stuff was second only to Verlander's.

113 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:09 pm

[107] Really? I'm at work with mlb.com so no tv. But that makes no sense..

114 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:09 pm

AJ pitched the 2nd nice and easy ---- like he used to pitch against the Yankees.

Seriously, we can't lose to a team with Betemit can we?

115 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:09 pm

That's the ticket!

116 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:09 pm

Bravo, AJ!

Keep it up!

Now come on, fucking sticks!

117 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:09 pm

Wow-zer

118 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:09 pm

OK, well, that was better.

A-Rod has been pretty good in the field. Like the best I've seen him. Odd.

119 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:09 pm

[112] HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!

120 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:09 pm

Great slide.

"Posada scores easily" is an oxymoron.

180 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:21 pm

Wow for a second I had a flashback to the 80s when both Bobby Meacham and another Yankee (help me someone) got gunned out at home for 2 outs on 1 throw to Fisk

181 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:21 pm

[179] I honestly thought they were both going to get thrown out Posada was going so slow. He's a mudder I guess.

Come on, Robbie, nice and easy, up the middle. Bigass run out there...

185 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:22 pm

[172] i prefer his given middle name, minus the "-on". if you also subtract the "d" in his first name, he basically becomes:

Eric Sanders Jeter.

i think i should get some of his salary and any sloppy seconds (preferably one of the jessica's)

186 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:22 pm

Dale Berra! Thanks Raf!!!!

Walking Delmon Young?

214 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:29 pm

Oy.

But I do think almost every one of those pitches was in the strike zone.

Let's keep the 80's karma truck going with Dan Pasqua

[245] [253] IIRC, Andre got into a car accident late one night, was never the same after and wound up working in a factory. One of the NY papers had a "where is he now" profiles.

Different from Brien Taylor.

[263] Looking.

270 joe   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:43 pm

This strike zone business is a little irritating, but not as bad as last night. Burnett isn't getting squeezed like CC was, and Yanks are winning!

271 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:43 pm

[267] Didn't Andre Robertson break his neck in that crash?

272 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:43 pm

This is pissing me off. Porcello is getting outside strikes, and AJ can't get a strike call on a strike.

273 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 4, 2011 9:44 pm

[269] thanks. That's what I figgured. 4 Ks by Porcello, all looking.

349 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:00 pm

stfu, smoltz.

350 Chyll Will   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:00 pm

Why? Why does it HAVE to be a bunt?

351 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:00 pm

What the fuck was that?!

352 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:00 pm

354 Marek   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:00 pm

Can we stop bunting now, please?

355 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:00 pm

FUCK YOU JOE.

FUCK YOU DEREK.

DISGRACEFUL.

356 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:00 pm

Derek Jeter has 3000+ hits in his career. He should NEVER be bunting with men on base.

357 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:01 pm

Well, not as good as a perfect bunt, but NOT BAD, CURTIS!

358 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:01 pm

Another one out of the zone. Dick umps...

417 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:07 pm

I think it's time to have all cf camera shots be directly behind the pitcher. Either the umps are crazy, the blue box is defective, or I am going blind.
Good work, Teix. You the man.

418 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:07 pm

[410] Hahahah! No kidding!

That's a strike? Fine time to bring back the high strike.

421 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:07 pm

451 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:12 pm

TERRIFIC, AJ!!!

poor tbs, that made them so sad...

452 Marek   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:12 pm

The 3d strike to Tex was lower than other pitches called strikes tonight. I do want him to foul off pitches that he can't do anything useful with. Other teams seem to do this a lot.

453 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:12 pm

More runs, More runs, MORE RUNS.

Where the Score Truck at?

454 TheGreenMan   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:12 pm

That was huge!

455 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:12 pm

Alex turned away on a belt high fastball 6 inches in and it was a strike. AJ's first ptich to Young was a knee high curve ball that caught half the corner. Ball. ugh.
Was that AJ's best inning of the year?

456 monkeypants   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:13 pm

It's crazy late here, but I feel compelled to watch some more. A big delivery from the Score Truck would let me get a few hours sleep.

457 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:13 pm

[445] yeah, that 1st pitch curve woulda been called a strike for portabello.

458 Marek   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:13 pm

[455] And yet somehow, it's still a better strike zone than last night!

459 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:14 pm

Go o Go TEAM!! I fully expect Mo to close this one out!

[462] to me Porcello reminds me of Ponticello, which to a musician means play with the bow close to the bridge (making a scratchy sound).

476 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:19 pm

[470] Now I am getting hungry.

CURTIS MOTHERFUCKING GRANDERSON, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Praise him with GREAT PRAISE.

531 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:32 pm

[516] it's actually spelled: violoncello

532 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:32 pm

Thanks for following the game when Curtis might be hurt - asswipes

533 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:32 pm

Wow. That was amazing.

viol da gamba

537 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:32 pm

Hope he's OK, might have had the wind knocked out of him. That was balls to the wall there. Great catch.

538 rbj   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:32 pm

[514] Cool. Good move to get AJ out. At the very least it's a positive for next year.
Hope I just didn't jink the season.

539 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:33 pm

[516] In older texts you'll even see it written: 'cello.

540 Chyll Will   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:33 pm

MVP!!! And I actually thought Girardi was being reasonable, ha...

541 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:33 pm

[510] i was late to the Todd Drew post today. here's what i wrote hours after it ended:

todd WILL be watching tonight. and both AJ and Tex will come through for him. he was real high on us signing Tex.

let's bring this home to the bronx so todd can watch from the comfort of his own seat! i'm sure marsha will appreciate the company : )

542 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:33 pm

Definitely knocked the wind out of him. Full lay out. Didn't land awkwardly. Perfect catch.

543 joe   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:34 pm

Can't believe he caught that. Holy shit

544 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:34 pm

Grandy for POTG, so far.

546 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:34 pm

[531] That's what I said, dodn't I?

547 mhoward120   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:35 pm

For better or worse, AJ is with us for another season for sure

548 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:35 pm

Cliche time:

What a laying out, body sacrifice, no regard for self, 5 star play by Curtis Granderson. Thanks.

And AJ is still a bitch to watch pitch, but he was good. Thanks.

Now let's get some more runs, and take this back to NY.

549 JeremyM   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:36 pm

[547] Now that the Angels are looking for a new GM, I don't know where he'd go anyway. Reagins seemed to like taking on worthless deals.

550 Raf   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:37 pm

[547] They can't move him, he has a NTC

551 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:37 pm

[546] no, you wrote violIncello. with an "i," like a regular violin. but the full name of the cello has an "o" in the middle - violOncello.

don't know why, but that's how it's spelled...

552 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:37 pm

"He's able to utilize that great arm of his."

553 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:37 pm

What an unbelievable play.

Two in one game.

Fuck, talk about clutch. Teix, too, with the glove was clutch.

Defensive is very important.

Very important.

554 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:38 pm

[551] D'oh. But you missed my joke. Dodn't you?

555 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:38 pm

[553] Man, is it ever. Is it ever.

556 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:38 pm

[551] From the French or probably Italian. In French it's "violon." Presumably Italian, too.

557 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:39 pm

[554] i guess i dod!

558 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:39 pm

561 TheGreenMan   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:40 pm

[552] Because he couldn't as a starter, right? Terrible announcing.

562 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:40 pm

I'd like to see Gardner shorten up at the plate. He tastes just enough power to take him out of what his real game should be. I wish Scooter were here to give him a talk. What a thorn he'd be if he were to take a pesky David Fuckstein approach.

563 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:40 pm

[556] No, a violon and a violin are different. The 'in' is a little one, the 'one' is a big one.

564 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:40 pm

You think Brett could have caught that had Granderson not been going for it?

He was certainly right there in the picture.

565 Marek   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:40 pm

568 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:41 pm

[563] Really? Are you sure?

569 Just Fair   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:41 pm

As so often happens, a great defensive inning ending play is made and then bats third after a one out walk.

570 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:42 pm

[567] :) What a good girl.

571 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:42 pm

This is Sori we like.

579 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:48 pm

[568] yeah, RI's right. no need to look it up.

violin is always spelled with an "i"

violoncello is always spell with an "o"

the other name for kettle drums, however, can be spelled with different combinations of "i's" and "y's", like:

timpani
tympani

580 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 4, 2011 10:48 pm

[571] violon is the French name for a violin. But I *want* to say that there was a violon in the early music Collegium at my university. I know there was a viol de gamba. Hells yeah!

BASEBALL!

Those 2-3 throws on the dropped K are always an adventure. I'm a frequent 1B and it feels like a miracle every time we avoid drilling the guy in the back.

In one of my rare C stints, I was all set to nail one guy. Right up until I stepped on the bat.

Whew thelarmis. I wouldn't care to have done that.

708 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 11:15 pm

Hm, the official rules don't make it clear. It's 10.4. There's a bunch about how you do get an RBI, and a bunch about what doesn't count, but balks are not mentioned.

709 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 4, 2011 11:15 pm

Ouch.

713 randym77   ~  Oct 4, 2011 11:17 pm

FWIW, Montero did not get a RBI for the balk. According to Gameday, he only has one. Which has to be for the hit.

716 thelarmis   ~  Oct 4, 2011 11:18 pm

[708] there's 1 rbi on montero's ledger in the box score, so i imagine that's from the single and he got nuthin' for the balk. it's not considered an error. shouldn't be an "unearned" run, since it was the pitcher's fault. what if the runner was inherited? who's line does it go on then?

and now, something similar with the wild pitch. certainly not an rbi for curtis...

base hit for double digits!

718 RIYank   ~  Oct 4, 2011 11:19 pm

[713] Thanks.

Now that I look more carefully at the rules, that makes sense. The list of ways you can get an RBI is supposed to be exhaustive. The list of ways you can't are either exceptions to the first list, or clarifications.

820 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 4, 2011 11:55 pm

Surely worried about having to go back to the well -

Nova was great, but they see him again,

Pfister (dunno why I do it that way, but I'm sticking with it) was showing great stuff

Temperature check?

Cautiously hopeful?

Thrilled to be going back to New York, that's for damn sure.

823 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 5, 2011 12:03 am

I can't believe that just happened.

I can't believe AJ was that good, minus the first inning scariness.

The umps zone seemed to have issues again tonight, but at least it was balanced. I almost lost my mind when we took a punch out on a clearly high pitch, but then we got the same call later.

AJ! Whuh? How? Really??!!!

Sterling has some kind of homily about this sort of thing, I think...

827 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 5, 2011 12:16 am

[825] Lend away, just let COB be right!!!

Pfister really scares me, but man, it feels good to be taking those bastages back to the Stadium.

Now that Stadium crowd better be FEROCIOUS.

I always mention it, but I've never seen a pitcher get shook by a crowd the way we did Andy Ashby back in the day.

If the obscenely rich need seat fillers, let's put the program in place. Heck, how about letting local youths watch somewhere and have them on standby?

They'd get the job done - YS needs to be opponents' hell on Thursday night.

Such a good temperature for CC, btw - too bad he didn't pitch the second game...

828 RagingTartabull   ~  Oct 5, 2011 12:23 am

I was at the Stadium for Game 1 (BOTH Game 1's!) and I gotta say the crowd was HYPED...especially on Saturday night with Nova on the mound.

Nothing will ever be like the old place, but in 3 years of playoffs there that might have been the loudest the place has been outside of Game 6 vs Philly.

I definitely think the crowd will show up on Thursday, but its up to the Yanks to give them something to get loud about

829 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 5, 2011 12:30 am

[828] I *hate* that it's even a consideration - back in the day, before they divided us with the moat - we would sit through ANYTHING. I mean SCREAM through anything.

I told Andy Ashby we were going to kill anyone who even fessed up to ever knowing him.

We were one terrifying slavering bellowing have a look in the face of hell type maw back then -

long ass rambling between the dashes, but I hate that it's even a consideration, but good weather bodes well for an amped up crowd.

Nova needs to control his emotions (he can let pitches ride high at times), because I think things may be at a whole 'nother level on Thursday night.

830 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 5, 2011 12:31 am

[826] bah. realized I jacked that up cause Dickerson PR for Swisher, not PH. Therefore Swisher went 1-4 and Dickerson went 0-1.

YEAAAAHHHHHH! Finally back, so happy to see an easy win. Thursday is a lock.

832 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 5, 2011 2:25 am

The Granderson catches, amazing! How does he rate so low in all the advanced metrics..is he generally poor but just makes the occasional circus catch?

833 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 5, 2011 2:30 am

Well, even tonight, he made 1 fantastic catch ... and 1 very fortunate recovery on a misread.

Mostly, though, I think his overall numbers are affected by Gardner to his left, since Curtis often defers to Gardner on balls hit into the gap that both can reach.

834 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 5, 2011 2:53 am

[833] Hmm..but then you're kind of penalized in the metrics for playing next an All-Universe defender like Gardner..anyways, what a catch!

I'm so happy for AJ, he does seem like a goofy, likeable cat..just infuriating to watch pitch most of the time.
