As a kid I never understood this sign. Saw it all over the city but it made no sense. Why would anyone want to post dollar bills? And how do you post something anyway?

Hm, I always considered it to be a ban on handbills. Maybe I got lucky and saw a cartoon with a handbill reference early on.

took me a while to understand that bills referred to handbills.
I knew from playbills not handbills.
I still don't get why or how people get sneakers to hang from telephone wires..
