I suppose it's way too early to fret about stuff like this. A couple more turns through the rotation and we'll see where we are. Like Hank said, this has happened before and things turned out alright then (1998).

That said, please don't let the games get uglier than they've already been. Please. It's almost like if you need coffee in the morning to get going and the only coffee in the vicinity is just bad (from what I've witnessed)...

2 Chris in Sydney   ~  Apr 8, 2012 11:00 am

That's a great analogy. Watching those last two games was like drinking shitty, weak-ass diner coffee. I'm mainlining the good stuff right now (Stumptown). Probably will have me yelling at the TV later....

3 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 11:13 am

Damn, Will, you've gotten downright philosophical in your old age.

4 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 11:15 am

[2] Isn't it like 4AM? You got up at 4AM to watch the Yankees? Or you stayed up?

5 monkeypants   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:03 pm

Just poking my head in the door to ask one of my regular questions: what is Eduardo Nuñez good at?

6 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:10 pm

5) The young man swings hard.

7 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:31 pm

Dear Phil.
Please get through the first 2 innings under 60 pitches and no runs. That is all.
-me

8 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:34 pm

Oh, man.
Laptop not off to a great start.
Peralta just hit an 0-2 pitch to deep center with the bases loaded and Ellsbury had it in his glove... nope. Double. 4-0 Tiggers.

9 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:45 pm

Cano's really taking ever first pitch fastball he sees.

What does this portend?

10 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:46 pm

every

11 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:47 pm

Portend?
I think it means he's decided to be patient.

12 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:47 pm

[5] He's got good batspeed.

13 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:48 pm

[11] It sure looks that way. I wonder if it'll work...

14 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:48 pm

Red Sox rallying.

15 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:52 pm

This shift is something so far.

16 rbj   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:52 pm

Went to the Mud Hens - Indy game last night. Ugh. Brutal. The first two innings produced a grand total of 4 runs, and took an hour to play. Watching paint dry was more fun. Game was three minutes shy of 4 hours. Even the Hens radio guys thought they were seeing a Yankees - Red Sox game. Final score was 8-7 Indy. But in the mid-innings Phil Nevin (Hens manager) pulled a Girardi. 2 out double, so the next guy (who was 0-season, granted only second game) was intentionally walked, despite the Hens being down 7-3. Of course the next guy, who was 1-7 on the year, hit a one run double. Which was the margin between extra innings and a loss.

Two games this year that I've seen, two IBBs, both of which have bitten the teams in the ass. Not that I'm still fuming about issuing an IBB in the first inning of the first game, with your ace on the mound. No, not still bitter about that at all.

17 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:54 pm

Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuughes.

18 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 12:55 pm

Caballito strikes out with the sacks juiced and the Boston rally ends. 4-2 Tiggers going to the bottom of the second.

19 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:01 pm

Oh, ffs.

20 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:01 pm

Oy.

21 rbj   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:01 pm

Oy, figured it was going to be a hit anyway.

22 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:02 pm

Who could have predicted?

23 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:02 pm

Swish would catch that, right?

24 monkeypants   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:03 pm

Is that the same Ibañez whom the Yankees signed because he could "play a little outfield"?

25 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:03 pm

[24] Yeah, that's the one. Unfortunately this is a big outfield.

26 monkeypants   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:04 pm

And somehow Sir Phil is still using a million pitches to get through the first inning.

27 monkeypants   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:06 pm

Kay: "So Girardi is doing the right thing by resting people but two days in a row it's sort of backfired on him..."

It's the third fucking game of the season and we are already in resting mode?!?

28 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:08 pm

Nice hit, Swish.

29 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:08 pm

Bang. Nice drive.

30 seamus   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:09 pm

swish!

31 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:09 pm

Ibanez reminds me of John Olerud.

32 rbj   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:09 pm

[27] Hey, this is the guy who issues intentional walks in the first inning of the first game.

33 monkeypants   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:10 pm

Productive out.

34 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:19 pm

Huuuuuuuughes.

35 rbj   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:20 pm

No, you can't strike out Sean Rodriguez, it's early in the game, you're supposed to intentionally walk him.

36 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:21 pm

Gosh, I loved him as a player, enjoyed him as a manager but goddamn Sweet Lou is a horrid announcer. Never mind that his voice isn't compelling, all he does is spew cliche after cliche. Enough already.

37 briang   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:24 pm

yeah, i agree. i didn't like hearing pinella during the spring though i was excited about him being there. backfire.

how did he test?....who hired him?..how do these guys get jobs doing this. they should give the barber a job. a barber would be a good guy to hear talk baseball.

these are solely the opinions of a barber.

p.s.
when is texeira gonna hit something hard?...ever again?

38 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:24 pm

BoSox tie the game on a weakish throw by A-Jax to home (shallow Punto fly with one out).

39 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:24 pm

[36] Yes.

Seems like every hard hit ball is right at the motherfuckers.

40 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:25 pm

How come the Rays are allowed to use 12 infielders? Another ball on the button for an out. Shite!

41 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:25 pm

Damn, they're clocking the ball but no results.

42 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:26 pm

41) That's going to change, luck wise. Good thing is they are at least hitting the ball well.

43 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:27 pm

Ouch, two more for the Red Sox. They lead 7-5.

44 briang   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:28 pm

i'm watching the rays feed though. these guys are way more tolerable to me than michael kay and his sensationalist bull shit. i hate him. love everyone else....kay actually is becoming unlistenable for me....

47 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:36 pm

Freaking Carlos Peña.

48 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:37 pm

2 more runs for the Rays and the good guys can start scoring. sigh....

49 briang   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:43 pm

if montero or cervelli fuck that up like that people get on their case hard.....this guys is the defensive whiz i thought!.....i want cervelli....he earned it!

50 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:49 pm

Shift that.

51 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:50 pm

Good work, Teix.

52 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:50 pm

Shoot. I called "home run" right before the pitch, thought I had the power there for a sec.

53 briang   ~  Apr 8, 2012 1:51 pm

70 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:17 pm

Hughes and Stewart. A Supreme battery.

71 rbj   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:18 pm

74 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:19 pm

"Yeah, hi, didja see that? I think I just cost our team a run! And now watch me get ejected from the Trop!"

75 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:19 pm

[69] He has GOT to learn how to get through starts averaging less than 20 pitches per inning.

76 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:19 pm

A-Gon gives his team a 9-7 lead.

77 briang   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:20 pm

85 mph fastball. hughes is back!

78 briang   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:21 pm

79 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:22 pm

Intentional walk! So there's a force at any bag!

80 RIYank   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:22 pm

Potter out to have a word with Charles Evans.

81 seamus   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:24 pm

looked like the same Hughes to me. he's gotta right the ship or he'll be bullpen bound when andy/pineda come back.

82 rbj   ~  Apr 8, 2012 2:25 pm

Lead off double for Minnesota ends the no hitter bid.
