Welcome to the bigs, kid.

4 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:14 pm

[3] Hah!

5 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:16 pm

The kid is throwing strikes.

6 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:19 pm

Indeed he is, Rosencrantz.

(Or am I Rosencrantz?)

7 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:22 pm

[6] I can be Gilderstern (or "The other guy who's name I can't spell."

8 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:26 pm

U can be Guildenstern if you want.

Look, Guildenstern -- our Prince is up. Now I feel like a danish.

9 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:28 pm

[8] That's funny, you don't look like a danish.

Now get that run back.

10 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:35 pm

Rosencrantz, this performance of The Murder of Gonzago is the strangest I have ever seen.

11 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:39 pm

Oh no, bases loaded, we are doomed.

12 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:43 pm

Come on, fucking Derek!

13 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:43 pm

(Oooh, are we speaking of Hamlet?)

Nice work, Derek.

14 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:44 pm

Now THAT was Grand!!!!

15 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:44 pm

OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

FUCK YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

16 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:45 pm

Curtis Granderslam!

17 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:45 pm

[13] I felt like one of the Stoppard characters because of comments 1-4...

18 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:46 pm

Nice of Kay to admit "my bad."

I, too, was fooled.

19 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:46 pm

[17] laughing

20 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:46 pm

[15] But four walks plus a homer is not really your aesthetic, is it?

21 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:48 pm

[17] Say, Rosencrantz, you would think that if I drop this feather and this bowling ball, the bowling ball would hit the ground first.

[He releases both items simultaneously]

And you'd be absolutely right.

22 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:50 pm

"And that ball is gone, foul!"

23 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:50 pm

[13] Heavens make our presence and our practices Pleasant and helpful to him.

(Ok, I pulled out my copy from 1984.)

24 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:51 pm

[22] I thought I heard him say that! Sheesh.

25 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 6:54 pm

I must be lucky because I only get the Tigers broadcast.

26 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:00 pm

[25] Lucky lucky lucky! Keep tossing that coin, Rosencrantz.

27 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:02 pm

No, CC.

We can't have this.

We can't have this.

28 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:04 pm

Omg, is that true? We're worst in the majors in homeruns surrendered?

Really?

That's incredible, there's a lot of teams in the majors.

29 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:06 pm

Shit.

Come on, Bigman, keep this shit together.

30 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:06 pm

Half the cycle.

31 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:11 pm

Oh yes he did! Nice job, CC.

32 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:14 pm

We shoulda killed that Prince, Guildenstern. Like we were supposed to.

33 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:19 pm

Geez, I step away for a few minutes and the game falls apart.

34 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:20 pm

Whew.

35 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:20 pm

Phew!

36 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:29 pm

Sweet! Infield-in base hit. Easy out if Nix were still on second.

37 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:32 pm

We done chased an URP out of the game early.

38 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:41 pm

Cat-like!

39 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:48 pm

Man, it's like Alex can't even hit mistakes anymore.

40 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:57 pm

How 'bout that Robinson Cano?

41 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:57 pm

To Quote The Detroit announcer:
"Man, is he SMOOTH".

42 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 7:59 pm

[39] Really. Swining Strike 3 in his second AB had 500' written all over it. It was a meatball, and he couldn't even foul it off.

43 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:05 pm

Good game in Queens.

44 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:07 pm

Baltimore is in freefall, as they are looking to lose their 6th in a row, and fall into 2nd place, (hopefully) only a 1/2 game in front of the Yanks.

45 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:09 pm

And replay shows he was out.

46 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:12 pm

Love that smile.

47 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:13 pm

Nix has played on 6 teams in 6 years, and has never done much of anything. But he been excellent for us considering he is a no-name sub.

48 Shaun P.   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:30 pm

[43] Indeed.

CC looks in charge tonight, though I'm a little worried about his Ks being down (last 3 games before tonight: 4, 6, 6).

49 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:32 pm

Three more outs for Supernatural and the Mets will lose a certain distinction...

50 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:32 pm

CC done for the night?

51 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:32 pm

Santana with the No-No thru 8.

52 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:34 pm

[49] Thanks for the heads up.

53 Shaun P.   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:36 pm

[50] Gotta think so, right? 7 innings, 113 pitches, fully rested bullpen . . .

[49] My best friend is a huge Mets fan, and he and his wife just had twins 11 days ago. He'd be pretty psyched if Johan does it.

Only problem for Johan is he's already at 122 pitches. Hope he takes care of business quickly in the 9th . . .

54 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:39 pm

[49] Indeed, cheers!

55 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:39 pm

[53] And he has to bat, too!

56 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:40 pm

Back from enemy territory. [51] No flak from the captain.
Santana will go out for the 9th I think. I just flipped over the the mets channel. The Cardinals got a close call hit over the third base line ruled foul. Replays showed to be just fair. Hey now!
Don't know which inning it happened.

57 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:41 pm

[55] "Santana has no interest in swinging the bat, he has no interest in getting on base."

58 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:42 pm

(I'm sorry, but the NL is just so much cooler.)

59 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:42 pm

Santana taking his AB in the 8th. Stay tuned.

60 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:43 pm

Damn, FIVE walks?

That almost shouldn't even count.

61 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:44 pm

Matt Holiday leads off in the 9th.
Sanatana warmed.
Here we go.

62 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:44 pm

Whoo hoo. Andrew has been real helpful.

63 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:44 pm

Short, soft liner to CF. Caught. ONE Out.

64 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:45 pm

One.

65 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:45 pm

Alan Craig up. 1-0.

66 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:46 pm

I hope he coughs it up with 2 outs but that's just me.

67 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:46 pm

2-2 count.

68 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:46 pm

Soft fly to LF. Caught! TWO out.

69 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:46 pm

Oooh, that was close!

Two out!

70 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:47 pm

[59] Hmm, intentional strikeout. Is that strictly Kosher? It's the right thing to do, but is trying to make an out by a batter an attack on the integrity of the game?

71 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:47 pm

Two.

72 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:47 pm

David Freeze up. 1-0.

73 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:47 pm

[66] Why does that crack me up?

74 mhoward120   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:47 pm

I can't believe that I want him to get it

75 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:47 pm

131 pitches so far. 3-0.

76 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:48 pm

Very tired.

77 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:48 pm

This is exciting...

78 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:48 pm

Full count.

79 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:48 pm

He got it!

80 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:48 pm

It's a No-Noooooooooooooooooooooo!

81 mhoward120   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:48 pm

YES

82 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:49 pm

Awwwww, good for the Metsies and their fans!

83 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:49 pm

Oh, well. Good for Santana

84 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:49 pm

Wow!

85 rbj   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:49 pm

Congratulations Johann!

86 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:51 pm

Is that Santana's first no-hitter? I should know. But I don't.

87 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 1, 2012 8:59 pm

St. Louis leads the NL is OPS, RS and HRs.
Santana really earned that one.

88 Shaun P.   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:01 pm

[86] I believe so, though you'd think he'd have thrown one by now.

Congrats to the Mets and their long-waiting fans!

Meanwhile, back in Motown . . . CC out, Eppley in.

89 Shaun P.   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:02 pm

[88] Err . . . Logan in . . .

Girardi is in matchup heaven, clearly.

90 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:05 pm

I love chess.

[88] Yeah, it was his first, I checked.

91 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:10 pm

Is Kay going to mention every 8th inning the formulaic bullpen the Yanks used to have before Mo's season ended and Robertson went down? Oi!

92 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:14 pm

I've never rooted for the Mets more openly and honestly than I did in the 9th inning tonight.

93 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:15 pm

[92] Hear, hear.

94 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:21 pm

How's that for no power, Michael Kay. Bite me. 8 homers. Exactly as many as Prince Fielder.

95 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:21 pm

Hang 'em and bang 'em.

96 Shaun P.   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:21 pm

[92] Yes. That's just an incredible moment for them. And at home, too!

97 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:22 pm

[94] And, Michael thought it was a long fly out, too. Douche.

98 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:26 pm

Thank god we have another lefty pitcher. What on earth would we do now otherwise???

99 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:30 pm

"I apologize if people took that literally."

Keep it up, Michael, you could run for office!

100 Shaun P.   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:30 pm

[97] He really has to go. . . .

though in fairness Alex [94], A-Rod has but 5 doubles and a sub-.150 isolated slugging (ISO), which is a better measure of power than SLG. It would be the lowest ISO of his career, by far - even if you include 1995, when he hit .232/.264/.408 over 48 games. Its probably gone up with the HR, though.

Fielder has 11 doubles and so his ISO is .190. Admittedly that's pretty low for Prince, but still ahead of A-Rod.

However, I'd also bet a lot that Michael Kay has no idea with isolated slugging is, so - yeah.

101 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:31 pm

Ahh.
So good to have that lefty available. Excellent.

102 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:31 pm

For fuck's sake, Rapada. Don't walk the lead off lefty!

103 Shaun P.   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:32 pm

[98] Perish the thought. This team can't win anything without two lefty relievers in the bullpen.

On a side note - doesn't mentioning two lefty relievers in the bullpen make Mattpat11 appear, a la saying Beetlejuice made him appear?

104 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:36 pm

God almighty. Five run lead. Just THROW STRIKES.
Jesus.

105 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:36 pm

What a worthless fucking outing from Alpaca Yard. Bollocks!

106 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:39 pm

Nice!

107 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:39 pm

Well done, Sori.

108 RIYank   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:39 pm

Well that might have been the easiest Save anyone has ever got.

109 Shaun P.   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:40 pm

Worst part was it was the bottom of the order. Not anymore . . .

110 Shaun P.   ~  Jun 1, 2012 9:41 pm

[108] Funny thing is that Soriano still doesn't have a 1-2-3 save. Good that he took care of business quickly.
