I'm not looking forward to these games anymore.

It shouldn't be that way.

2 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:12 pm

Henderson doesn't strike anyone out.

immediate strikeout. This team fucking sucks

3 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:14 pm

Edge of the outfield power.

4 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:20 pm

It's funny.
Before reading the thread's title and [1] my thought was
.... I'm actually scared to watch these next 4 games.

If we end up missing the PS by ONE game,
will we look back over the entire 162 and pick the worst loss that ending up costing the year?
Might it be one of those 'meaningess' April games?
We we have our own 'Fucking Bucky Dent' as in 'Fucking Ciriaco'?
Will we end up doing the ONLY thing that will give RSN just a little taste of pleasure?

.... I'm actually scared to watch these next 4 games.

5 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:23 pm

[4] Its just not fun. The team isn't playing well, and Joe's a good bet to interfere and usually make things worse. You watch the whole game waiting for the other shoe to drop.

6 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:23 pm

Come on Phil. Yeesh.

7 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:23 pm

And there it is.

Fucking Phil Hughes.

8 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:23 pm

Fucking Phil!
FORGET ABOUT THE RUNNERS WHERE THEIR BEST BATTER IS UP!!!!!!!!

9 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:26 pm

In the inevitable housecleaning that's going to come after this epic collapse, I really, really hope Chamberlain and Hughes find their way in it too.

10 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:33 pm

[9] There will not be a housecleaning. Maybe a few coaches, but firing Girardi would be a useless gesture. Who are we going to dump? ARod? Jeter? Teix? CC? Cano?

Frankly, while I like Granderson, he's is the only player I can see being let go.... and he will be difficult to replace. Martin maybe? Hughes maybe?

I just can't see any radical moves.
The blame game doesn't work.
It certainly didn't help the Re Sox this year.

11 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:34 pm

Chime in here rbj....

12 Bruce Markusen   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:38 pm

Things are going pretty well so far, don't you think?

Geez, when will this team start playing like the season is on the line?

13 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:42 pm

Ichiro's line as a Yankee: .330 / .352 / .469 /.821 WAR: 0.3
He had a 0.3 WAR his entire time with Seattle in 2012.
I know he is still NOT the Ichiro of old, but there is no doubt he was seriously depressed in Seattle, and couldn't get fired up fot the season.

Here's Montero's line: .259 / .295 / .387 /.682 WAR: 0.2
I still believe he will be an impact Hitter, but Seattle is killing him also.

I remember Kay mentioning that ARod got all over Montero for not showing up early to batting practice or putting in extra time. I think Montero had a bad attitude, and that may have been the straw that broke the camel's back, in terms of him being traded.

14 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:44 pm

Jesus, 3 home outs in and this game is as good as over.

Fuck this team.

15 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:45 pm

[10] Firing Joe Girardi would prevent Joe Girardi from being the manager of the New York Yankees. I don't see how that's useless.

Non-tender Chamberlain.

Trade Hughes to the NL West.

I think Martin is gone, but I don't thats necessary. As long as they don't do something stupid like promote Cervelli, it may not be so bad.

Blow up the bullpen so its not full of specialists. That was the worst mistake we made. Like giving a bottle of hooch to an alcoholic.

Figure out whose fault it is that this team can't develop major league starters and send him packing.

There's alot of things that can be done to improve a deeply flawed team.

16 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:47 pm

[12] Old habits are hard to break. Maybe it happened, but I think the FO/Staff should have gotten on Cano... to more more selective, and Granderson, to prioritise CONTACT with 2 strikes and with RISP, and maybe even tell Jones that swinging OUT OF HIS shoes every cut is NOT in the Yankees best interests... much earlier in the season. I know these guys are veterans, but I wonder if they were ever taken to task for their unproductive approaches.

17 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:47 pm

[13] I still don't think that was a bad trade. I think the Yankees clutching their pearls over his defense was absurd considering that we put Posada and Cervelli out there regularly, but trading him for (hopefully) equal value is totally fine.

18 mhoward120   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:49 pm

Someone please tell me why I shouldn't be convinced that the Orioles will clinch the division by Tuesday.

19 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:51 pm

[11] It's just too frustrating.

20 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:52 pm

Chavy has 16 HRs in only 273 AB. That's a it better then one every 18 AB, or about 1 every 4 games. His line is also quite a bit better then ARods.

And FUCK! O's already up 3-0.
I think the Sox are resting and getting ready for there series with us.

21 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:53 pm

16) I wish I could...Sox pitching well so far. 3-0 O's in the first.

22 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:55 pm

Maybe the Angels will lose twice today

23 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:55 pm

Amyone notice how the Sox have set up their rotation for us?
Lester, Laptops and Dice-K. Coincidence?

24 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:56 pm

Can't take advantage. Story of the season.

25 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:56 pm

FUCK!
Swish was 8 for his last 15 with RISP.

26 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:57 pm

[22] Does it even matter? We can't hit Ricky Romero.

27 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 12:59 pm

ICHI-GO!!!!!!

28 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:00 pm

Remember when Phil Hughes was gonna be Roger Clemens? And then Joba Chamberlain was gonna be Roger Clemens? We were gonna have two Roger Clemens? What the hell happened there?

29 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:01 pm

Damn! ICHIRO!!!!!!!!!!!!

30 monkeypants   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:01 pm

[13] I know he is still NOT the Ichiro of old, but there is no doubt he was seriously depressed not really trying very hard and mailing it in in Seattle, and couldn't get fired up for the season.

31 monkeypants   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:02 pm

[26] They are Roger Clemens...unfortunately, they are Roger Clemens *now* rather than the 1986 version.

32 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:04 pm

[26] Special rules.

33 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:04 pm

Grandy now 1 for 13 in this series.

34 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:05 pm

Crap ... 2 well hit balls ... 2 outs.

35 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:06 pm

[26] We traded for Ivan Rodriguez ...

36 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:08 pm

Getting completely shut down by and striking out like crazy against Henderson Alvarez.

37 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:17 pm

This team is too old. But how do we get younger? Infield isn't going to change. Blow up the outfield? New catcher?

38 monkeypants   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:24 pm

[35] Yeah. If only we had an MLB ready, young catcher in the system...

39 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:26 pm

[36] We do? Sweet! Who is it???

40 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:28 pm

Hello second place.

41 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:28 pm

Man, was that inevitable, or was it just me ...

42 mhoward120   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:28 pm

Derek Jeter does not deserve this pile of shit

43 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:28 pm

Well, so much for first place. Thanks Phil. Roger Clemens my ass.

44 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:29 pm

Ahhhhh, don't worry Phil, they're just saying BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-ughes, right?

45 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:30 pm

Just run it up there and put it on tee next time, Phil. For fuck's sake! He has no clue where any pitch out of his hand is going to go. Release and pray is no way to pitch.

46 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:31 pm

3-4 against Minnesota and Toronto. This team deserves all the scorn its gonna get.

47 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:33 pm

Oh Christ, Kay, the last thing I want is Joe trying to jumpstart anything. He sucks at it.

48 Jose Sarduy   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:35 pm

Wow, Lawire gave it that long look and flipped the bat for his whopping 11th of the season.

Meanwhile, in Baltimore the O's are beating up on the Sox again.
who said the schedule favored the Yanks?

You gotta beat the Jays to win

49 mhoward120   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:35 pm

No reason to take Hughes out - we have to save the bullpen for next season

50 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:35 pm

I'd go with my old standby, courtesy of that old Yankees fan Jack Nicholson ... this team needs an enema.

Fuck Girardi.

Fuck Cashman.

Fuck Hal.

51 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:37 pm

Oh, look, Joe Girardi is alive.

52 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:38 pm

This just keeps getting better and better.

53 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:38 pm

And ... fuck this game, I'm going to go watch the Orioles.

54 mhoward120   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:38 pm

Hey, at least hockey season starts soon

55 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:38 pm

It's not age. The 2 players that have been hurting us this last month (considering their talent and expectations) has been Cano and Granderson. Nova has disappoined. Phil has had a number of stinkers. For what we expect, can you complain about Jeter, ARod, Andy., Chavez and Raul?

Young is better then old, but Good old players are better then Fair young players.

Grandy's OPS is now .790.
Cano's OPS of .900ish is fine, but 84 RBI for a Yankee's Cleanup hitter is pathetic. Teix has 3 less RBI then Robbie, in 180 less AB.

Obviously these guys don't stink, but Grandy, Teix and Robbie are the heart of our offense. We need them to produce to Win.

56 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:39 pm

I have no problem with that being the last we see of Phil Hughes in a Yankee uniform.

57 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:41 pm

TB is up and LAA is down. The ONLY good news of the day.

58 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:41 pm

[54] Hey, now! He'd be totally cromulent as a 7th inning guy!

59 mhoward120   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:41 pm

I really have the feeling that since the Yankees were the first AL wild card, all along they wanted to be the first second wild card

60 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:42 pm

If Hal Steinbrenner actually gives a shit (which I have serious doubts), there's gonna be a bloodbath in Yankeeland in a few days.

61 mhoward120   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:43 pm

(56) Cromulent? I think Cleveland Steamer is more appropriate

62 Bruce Markusen   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:43 pm

I'm going to stop watching now. The Yankees seem to play better when I don't watch. So I'm letting my wife turn on the "Murder She Wrote" marathon. See ya later, guys!

63 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:43 pm

[56] I think that's Joba's job. Or is he the sixth inning guy?

I want them both gone.

64 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:43 pm

The ChiSox never had a huge lead, but they are 2-9 over their last 11, and Price might be about to all but eliminate them. That's a pretty big choke.

65 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:44 pm

[61] Ooh, what channel?

66 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:44 pm

A great bases empty hitter there.....

67 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:45 pm

[63]I see what you're trying to do, but no.

This is leagues worse. When the Yankees complete this collapse, no one is going to remember the White Sox.

68 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:45 pm

[58] He's going to commit seppuku???

69 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:47 pm

[53] After that 14 inning game, they were just flat the next day, as if they were just tired, unlike a young team. And playing flat yesterday after winning big the night before, I just think they seem tired at the end of the season. Only thing I can attribute it to is age.

70 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:47 pm

[66]There will be major changes.

71 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:48 pm

1st and 3rd. No out. Can't wait to see the shitshow that happens next.

72 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:49 pm

2 men on, no out.
com'mon Curtis. SWING AS HARD AS YOU CAN!

73 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:50 pm

Walloped that one Curtis.

74 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:50 pm

CHRIST!
Why is he swinging at that pitch???

75 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:51 pm

So, anyway, got myself some tickets to see Aerosmith in MSG. That should be a blast

76 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:53 pm

[68] I say take off and nuke the entire team from orbit. It's the only way to be sure ...

77 mhoward120   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:54 pm

I have come to the conclusion that what we have here are bookends - this current Yankee era began with their winning the wild card in 1995 and is about to end with their winning the second wild card in 2012. As far as next year is concerned, I shudder.

78 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:54 pm

One run out of that.

79 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:54 pm

Yup. Thanks goodness for wild pitches.

80 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:55 pm

[74] I don't consider myself an overly vindictive man.

I want blood. I wasted way too much time, money and energy on this team to see this disaster.

81 Bruce Markusen   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:56 pm

Matt, it's the Hallmark Moviechannel. Good stuff!

82 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 30, 2012 1:58 pm

[78] Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man!

83 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 2:05 pm

Well.... we had 1st and 3rd, no out, and managed to score ONE run (on a WP). Is that GOOD for this team?

84 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 2:07 pm

2nd & 3rd, no outs, heart of the order. This will be interesting to see how they screw this up.

85 Matt Blankman   ~  Sep 30, 2012 2:09 pm

ARISE YANKEE BATS! ARISE FROM YOUR SLUMBER!

86 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 2:09 pm

I swear, after 18 years, and ARod still has no pitch recognition.

87 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 2:10 pm

Oh God, the Angels are catching up

88 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 2:12 pm

When was Alex's last home run?

89 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 30, 2012 2:13 pm

[87] I think its been ten games since he drove a run in, so start there.

90 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 2:13 pm

Good AB from ARod.
R(bi-less)obbie up!

So, if we manage to hold onto the WC, we probably play Oakland in California, yes?
And if we Win that, it's Texas?

I guess it's time for Soriano to torture us...

145 mhoward120   ~  Sep 30, 2012 3:28 pm

1st and 3d, no outs, 4 run lead - if we lose this one, we deserve to be fucked.

146 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 3:28 pm

Hamina hamina hamina . . .
Sori, it is a save situation -- you're trying to save a tie for first place.

OK.....
We are tied with Baltimore.
We have 3 games at Home against the Sox.
They have 3 games Away against TB.
We REALLY should win this thing... shouldn't we?

157 rbj   ~  Sep 30, 2012 3:34 pm

[150] Thanks.

158 mhoward120   ~  Sep 30, 2012 3:35 pm

(151) Anytime - remember its Bensonhurst, not Boston

159 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 3:40 pm

I hadn't even been looking at it, but we are now tied for Wins with Texas (although 1 behind in the Loss column).

160 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 30, 2012 3:59 pm

Texas plays their last 3 at Oakland, who has some serious motivation.
If we sweep the Sox, we could take best record.

I just looked up our record against Texas, and I counted it as 4-3 in our favor. Is it possible we only played 7 games against Texas? I checked the schedules on ESPN for both Texas and us, twice, and only found 7 games.

Anyway, we have A LOT to play for these next 3 games.
