Batter Up

Here’s an Sunday open thread. Nats, Cards and then A’s, Tigers this afternoon before the Yanks play against the Orioles down in Baltimore this evening. We’ll have a Yankee post up before game time.

Meanwhile, playoffs and football and all that other good shit.

How the FUCK is it fair to have the better team play the 1st two games of a 5 game series on the road?

Seriously, WTF isn't this a 2-2-1 series with the BETTER team getting the 1st two games at home??

Oh, right ... Bud Selig's a FUCKING IDIOT.

1) Add to that, this is only a one-year thing, apparently just to appease the TV gods - "best interests of baseball", my ass

[1] It's mind blowingly stupid.

[1],[2] And parity... Don't forget about parity. Even bite-sized market teams in West Bumbafcuk should share in the glory roulette of World Series win once a decade; if nothing else, give the illusion that they are perennial contenders for a five year period (until their stud pitchers are traded, badly injured or hit free agency, ssshhh!).

[1] This just doesn't bother me too much. It eliminates a travel day, and the better gets to finish with three in a row (if necessary). Home field advantage in baseball is generally not as important as it is in other sports. All the better team needs to do is take one of two, and it's downhill from there.

[1] I think it's only for this year, so they could save a travel day and squeeze the Play-In game in. In the future, it will be back to the 2-2-1.

Just stupid! He didn't need the basket catch there. He could have caught that normally, chest high.

8 Chyll Will   ~  Oct 7, 2012 1:32 pm

[7] Sounds like you're watching the Giants-Browns game...

9 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 7, 2012 1:39 pm

WOW!

10 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2012 1:48 pm

JJ!

11 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:02 pm

Been out doing some yard work, listening to the Tigers broadcast. Hell of a last couple of inning.

12 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:06 pm

Crazy.

13 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:08 pm

Oh, man. Pennington missed it by THIS much.

14 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:17 pm

First and third, two out for the A's. Yow.

15 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:29 pm

Here's Miggy in the bottom of the 9th. Man on first, one out, game tied, 4-4.

16 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:31 pm

[5] I'm surprised you've decided to check in, after the Yankees went 0-293 and the entire coaching staff committed hara-kiri on the 1st base line after the season's last out; that's mighty white of you ...

17 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:31 pm

Bloops a hanging 1-2 breaking ball for a single. First and third.

18 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:32 pm

16) Easy now. Let's keep it cordial, okay?

19 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:33 pm

I'd squeeze right here.

20 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:36 pm

Tiggers win.

21 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:37 pm

So, the lesser team is guaranteed 2 paydays while the better team only gets one. That's some smart thinking there, baseball ...

22 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:44 pm

Ahem. All I have to say about this Nats v Cardinals announcing crew is, there's a very fine line between "I love *that*, Dick!" and "I love that dick!!!"

Just sayin' ...

23 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:56 pm

Damn, if a *Molina* can score on a wild pitch, that's a WILD pitch ...

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:57 pm

Wow ... what a meltdown by Gonzales.

25 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2012 2:58 pm

[24] Rich Ankiel feels his pain.

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 3:02 pm

[24] And yet, only 2 runs out of it ...

[25] I still feel bad about that. I wonder what might have been. Would the meltdown still have happened at some later date, or would he have gone on to be an all-star pitcher ...

27 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 7, 2012 3:08 pm

[26] Yeah, how can you not feel bad about it? it was one of the most surreal things I have ever watched. A professional pitcher just completely losing it. Made a nice comeback story at least, as an outfielder.

28 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 4:32 pm

Uh oh, report for NYS says, "tarp on the field, raining hard".

Meh.

29 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2012 4:40 pm

[28] Weather maps don't look good either.

30 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 7, 2012 4:42 pm

from IIATMS:
The Game is scheduled for 6:00 and the Cardinals – Nationals game is only in the sixth inning, so the game might start on TNT instead of TBS.

Rain now in Baltimore. Tarp on the field.

31 garydsimms   ~  Oct 7, 2012 4:43 pm

They'll play unless it's pouring , thanks to this stupid schedule
Great for playoff B B.

32 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 4:50 pm

[30] Doh! I totally brain farted and forgot the game was in Baltimore, because hey, why would anyone start a playoff series in the lesser team's home park???

Oh right, it's baseball ...

33 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 5:00 pm

Well, that was nicely done, Nats.

34 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 5:06 pm

LET'S GO NATS!!!

35 rbj   ~  Oct 7, 2012 5:16 pm

Base hit. Nats take the lead!

36 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 5:17 pm

YAY!!!

37 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 5:23 pm

BOO!!!

38 mhoward120   ~  Oct 7, 2012 5:26 pm

A strange game - National League baseball.

39 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 5:49 pm

GO NATS!!!

40 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 5:51 pm

OH YEAH, RAIN DELAY!!!

41 mhoward120   ~  Oct 7, 2012 5:57 pm

I know it ain't baseball, but did anyone take note of the Browns' Jason Schwartz earlier today?

42 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 7, 2012 7:13 pm

8:40, if rumor is right ...
