"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

All Together Now

It’s Phil Hughes vs. Joe Saunders. Someone is getting their tits lit tonight. Let’s hope it’s not Hughes. And if he falters early, Dave Phelps, and perhaps even Derek Lowe, could play big roles for the Yanks.

Derek Jeter DH
Ichiro Suzuki LF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Robinson Cano 2B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Nick Swisher RF
Russell Martin C
Curtis Granderson CF
Jayson Nix SS

Never mind the emotion (the Win is the Thing): Let’s Go Yank-ees!

The ol ARod-Teixeira switcharoo. Hope is sparks both their games.

I feel bad for Girardi. Having lost my dad only 3 months ago, I know how tough that is. He's gonna be a wreck after this game either way.

Oh, and another thing: NY sports radio is INSANE.

2 Chris   ~  Oct 11, 2012 3:54 pm

Let's win one for Joe tonight.

(And not hack at everything thrown up there.)

3 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 5:15 pm

Am SO up for this game. Hughes will come through, the O's are dead meat!

garydsimms, I saw your Q from the earlier post. If you are staying in a hotel you can get the game live on TV, channel is NHK-BS1 or BS2. With Ichiro on the team now they will be showing every game live for certain, 0830 start for the 1930 EST games. Morning baseball is nice, except when we lose..then you have all day to stew over it!

4 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 5:52 pm

Wow... Teix batting 3rd and running the bases should be a real adventure.

I must remember everything Jorge taught me...
I must remember everything Jorge taught me...
I must remember everything Jorge taught me...

5 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 5:56 pm

[4] He'll probably walk four times and just clog up the bases. He's such a liability!

6 rbj   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:05 pm

Heck of a game between Nats & Cards. Now a game 5.

7 mhoward120   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:28 pm

(7) Put all the year-long managerial hatred aside - lets all keep Joe Girardi in our good thoughts - the loss of a father puts everything in perspective.

8 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:37 pm

[7] +1
PLAY BALL!

9 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:39 pm

Hopefully this will be a high scoring game. I fully expect Phil to give up at least 3. Question is: Is the Score Truck around?

10 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:40 pm

Come on, Phil. Not one of those games, please.

I hope Fred warms up early.

11 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:40 pm

8 pitch lead off walk, Yayy!

Oh wait, the O's are batting..Booo!

12 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:42 pm

Just throw the fuck strikes. Fuck.

13 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:44 pm

Okay.
Now a nice GIDP, please. Although that's not exactly Phil's specialty.

14 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:45 pm

Scary at bat now. Wieters with two aboard against Homer Boy.

15 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:46 pm

1 more out, Meat!

16 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:46 pm

Exhale. : )

17 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:46 pm

Well, that's good. That's good.

But must be better, Phil.

18 bartap   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:47 pm

I would really appreciate if the Yanks would score 10 in the first so I can watch the debate in peace.

19 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:48 pm

Well... that was fun. Please pass the Maalox.

20 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:49 pm

Joe Saunders..the ball must be hit and it must be hit far.™

™Shout out to Al Davis, RIP.

21 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:50 pm

[18][20] Barry O and Moneybags are debating again already?

22 rbj   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:51 pm

[21] Undercard. Ryan vs. Biden.

23 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:53 pm

[22] Yikes..um, will stick to the game..
Time for Gameday though on the morning commute. Let's go Yankees!

24 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:53 pm

There he goes, clogging up the base paths!

25 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:54 pm
26 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:55 pm

Jesus, this asshole is throwing slop.

27 bartap   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:56 pm

That was not the debilitating offensive outburst I was hoping for.

28 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:56 pm

Goddammed canadian cable: the game is not being televised on the normal Rogers Sportnet regional channels, because all four of them have the stupid NFL thursday night game. Instead the Yankees-O's are on SportsnetOne, the specialty (i.e., costs more) channel that I don't get.

Looks like it's the ol' MLB.tv high-behind-home camera view for me.

29 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:57 pm

[26] And he can't even spot his breaking ball. They just have to sit on a "fast"ball. 87 mph.

30 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 6:58 pm

[28] At least there's no hockey.

31 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:01 pm

[30] True, but...the lockout does not stop endless replays of Canadian world youth hockey tournament victories from the past two decades, nor does it drive Hockey Tonight from the airwaves. It's torturous.

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:01 pm

Atta boy, Phil!

33 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:01 pm

Nice.
A swinging strike instead of eleven fouls!

34 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:01 pm

Well, done, Phillip.

35 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:01 pm

And two quick ball-in-play outs!

36 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:04 pm

Here we go, Alex. Little bingo.

37 garydsimms   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:05 pm

Happy so far that my nats won. Smebody is worth it
Now it's arod time.

38 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:05 pm

Did you all see Buck's postgame conference last night? He was pretty snippy with the press. Made me smile a little thinking about the old days.

39 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:05 pm

Swing or don't. Enough of this half ass shit! Though a walk is good.

40 garydsimms   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:06 pm

Way to work the BB

41 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:06 pm

It's a start.

42 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:06 pm

Or that!
Good work, A-Rod. Rally starter!

43 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:06 pm

Now, time for Swish to start feeling good.

44 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:06 pm

[37] Somebody is worth it?

Who?

45 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:07 pm

Off the end of the bat. Drat.

46 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:07 pm

A-Rod BB, great! They got to moider this Saunders chump..

47 garydsimms   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:07 pm

59 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:10 pm

Stinkeroo.

60 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:10 pm

No surprise there. Though I think Grandy's got a big hit in him tonightski.

61 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:14 pm

Garydsimms, sure no problem. Fire away

62 garydsimms   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:14 pm

Leadoff walks suck

63 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:14 pm

He'll be running.

Hey, Phillip. Strikes, man. Strikes.

64 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:15 pm

Dammit, Phil. Lead off walks always score. 99% of the time.

65 mhoward120   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:15 pm

Uh oh

66 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:15 pm

Problems.

67 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:15 pm

Get out of it down, 1-0 and they'll be ok.

68 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:16 pm

Sigh.

69 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:16 pm

Phil, you idiot, don't kill your catcher.

70 mhoward120   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:16 pm

Hughes is pitching for his future as a Yankee

71 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:17 pm

Good.

72 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:17 pm

Heh-heh. Now a ground ball, baby!

73 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:18 pm

Oh, nice.

Tightrope act tonight.

74 garydsimms   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:18 pm

Nice play phil

75 rbj   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:18 pm

Alright, now a double play.

76 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:18 pm

Oh, Davis had a good pass at that first pitch.

77 garydsimms   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:19 pm

Phil. Need a ground ball dp or a k

78 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:19 pm

Wow!

79 garydsimms   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:19 pm

K works

80 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:19 pm

That's some bullshit. Hughes got lucky.

Not convinced he'll get out of this.

81 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:20 pm

He has the K pitch, when he really needs it.

82 mhoward120   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:20 pm

Exhale

83 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:20 pm

Wow. Horseshit. And we'll take it!

84 rbj   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:20 pm

Or a k and a grounder.

85 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:20 pm

Huzzah! Now score some runs!

86 randym77   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:20 pm

Escapes the jam! Attaboy, Phil.

87 garydsimms   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:20 pm

Smolts: thats getting away with a bad pitch. A-hole.

88 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:22 pm

[87] He's right, but he is an A-hole.

89 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:23 pm

Evening All!

ATTABOY NIXIE!

90 randym77   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:23 pm

There goes the no-hitter.

91 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:23 pm

Of course! Nix is the man. Because he's right handed!

92 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:24 pm

[87] Yeah, he's becoming impossible to take. Even the Fox booth will be a relief.
Runs make for better moods. Nix knock, good.

93 mhoward120   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:24 pm

We need something

94 garydsimms   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:25 pm

Bunt time

95 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:26 pm

Hang in there, DJ. FUCK THIS CHUMP.

96 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:27 pm

Funny, hooking that one foul. LOL.

97 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:27 pm

[89] Evening, nickname king!

Hughes is doing alright. I've always had faith in the kid.

Could the Score Truck show up now, please?

98 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:28 pm

"Joe's got to be careful here..."

Because he sucks.

99 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:29 pm

Good, tough at bat.

This is kind of amazing.

102 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:30 pm

[99] As O'Neil and Sojo were on folks minds earlier, this reminds me of their respective epic ABs in the 2000 Serious.

103 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:30 pm

New bat might do the trick.

104 rbj   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:30 pm

Heck of an AB byJeter.

105 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:30 pm

Square one up, Derek.

106 rbj   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:30 pm

Damn.

107 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:30 pm

Or maybe not.

108 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:31 pm

Now, it's time for Ichiro to drive one.

109 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:31 pm

Right over Mark Reynolds.

110 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:32 pm

That was a little bit of a letdown.

[108] [109] I'd take that!

111 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:32 pm

I don't get how Ichiro bails out and looks so bad on good pitches.

112 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:32 pm

Sheeeeit, that looked like a pitch Ichi could go yard on.

113 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:32 pm

Welp, up to Mark to finally get a "big" hit.

114 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:32 pm

Joe Saunders FUCKING sucks. I just don't get it. Damn you rally killing lead off double.

115 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:33 pm

This is not ideal. Not what I was hoping for.

116 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:33 pm

Ball Fucking Saxbury.

Don't tell me we aren't even going to advance a lead off double.

Urge.

To.

119 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:34 pm

SO incredibly weak.

120 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:35 pm

Unreal. Seriously pathetic. Joe Saunders may haunt my nightmares.

121 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:36 pm

The offense picked a terrible time to go into a total funk (Leon and the 9th inning of Game 1 aside). Game 2 was bad enough - this series could have been over - but this is getting ridiculous. WAAAAYYYY too many strikeouts.

122 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:36 pm

Infuriating three innings for both offenses so far. LOL

123 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:37 pm

Saunders, strike out king? This team has been a challenge to love all year. The hitting philosophy just seems ad hoc. Who will finally get smart?

124 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:37 pm

Strikes, Phil.

125 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:37 pm

STRIKES.

126 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:38 pm

127 mhoward120   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:38 pm

128 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:38 pm

You goddamn Blockhead, Phil. This is going go bit you in the ass as some point.

129 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:38 pm

Deep as in high in the sky I mean.

132 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:39 pm

Good going Phil, just how many times do you expect to get away with walking the leadoff man?

133 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:39 pm

I could see Reynolds jacking one, though. Can't you?

134 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:40 pm

The announcers are trying to get them to hit a dinger. LOL

135 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:40 pm

137 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:40 pm

Oh, baby, he got away with one on the 1-1 pitch, didn't he?

138 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:41 pm

Jeez, got away with THAT one, too. Phew.

139 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:41 pm

151 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:46 pm

Well, so far, Hughes has been slipperier than a greased pig.

Getting in range of the bullpen as well, which is nice.

HEY OFFENSE!

HOW ABOUT SOME FUCKING RUNS FOR ONCE???

152 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:46 pm

Cal just says the opposite of truth. Sounds familiar. cough-cough.
Phil has trouble getting two strikes. But not getting the third one. Sure, Cal.

153 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:46 pm

I think the string of 8+IP starts is not going to extend. I'll sign up for a win by committee here.

154 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:47 pm

Can't tell who is most horseshit--Hughes, Saunders, the O's offense or the Yankees' offense.

155 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:48 pm

[150] In the end, the W is the thing. Hughes has gone 4 scoreless, in just 63 pitches, regardless of how ugly it might have been (3 hits, 3 BB, 3K).

Now we need RUNS!

156 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:48 pm

How do the Orioles only have three hits? Seems like they have 12.

157 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:48 pm

[152] Maybe it's an accurate description of Phil's perphormance tonight? I know it's the opposite of his m.o.

158 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:48 pm

[154] E. All of the above. ;)

170 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:53 pm

Couple of decent swings so far for Swish. Nothing to show for it though.

171 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:54 pm

168) I think Phil should be on a VERY short leash. I'd have Phelps up as soon as this inning.

172 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:55 pm

[171] Yes.
Or Freddy.
Plenty of arms available, for sure -- maybe not D-Rob because he pitched two innings last night?

173 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:57 pm

[171] I'm not sure I'd be that hasty, but I'm "watching" via ScoreCenter on my phone, so I'm probably less worked up than you all.

A-Rod's been the offense tonight.

Keep up the outs, Phil!

174 rbj   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:57 pm

That's Phil. Grrrrr.

175 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:57 pm

Too late.

On an 0-2 pitch too.

WTF. Who is this, and what has he done with Nate McLouth?

179 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:57 pm

Well, it wasn't a leadoff walk

180 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:57 pm

Tell me again how Hughsie doesn't have trouble getting strike 3???

Eh, Smoltzie?

Fucking Hughes.

FUCKING BATS.

181 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:57 pm

[172] I don't Freddy is on the Yankee ALDS roster.
Time for Phelps.

182 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:57 pm

Well, it was a solo. Which is all I ask for at the outset.

183 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:58 pm

RI, yeah, I have to think Robertson is unavailable, though I'd hope Sori could go if necessary.

184 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:58 pm

Rare hit with two strikes? Clearly he doesn't know Hughes very well.

185 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 7:59 pm

[181] Hm, you're right. I thought I saw him in the dugout yesterday.

186 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:00 pm

Gosh, Hughes is really missing location.

187 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:00 pm

That's a nice pitch, though.

188 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:00 pm

Okay, so, more sliders, please.

189 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:01 pm

This game is shaping up very much like last night's. I hope Raul is in the cage getting ready. He may have to pinch hit for Cano tonight.

190 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:02 pm

Let's all be honest here, Hughes has been shaky and is lucky to be down 1-0, but he's only down 1-0.

This is all on the bats.

Again.

191 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:02 pm

Despite my bitching and moaning, 1 run over 5 innings is good work so far.

192 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:02 pm

Wow.
Okay, maybe let Phil pitch the sixth, huh?

193 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:03 pm

"One mistake" has been the standard epitaph of LPs in this series. Here's hoping Phil doesn't join the ranks.

194 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:04 pm

If told that Hughes would go five and only give up one run, we all would take that in a second.

If told Saunders goes four and pitches zero runs, we would not believe it.

Our hitters are as tight as __________ (fill in the blank).

195 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:05 pm

219 randym77   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:12 pm

Unreal. I can't believe this is the same Nate McLouth. He was DFA'd. By the Pirates. And signed a minor league deal with the Orioles.

220 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:13 pm

Yanks get a bad break on the good catch and Russell compounds it with a bad base running play.

221 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:13 pm

I can't believe it. I thought that ball was gone. Unreal.

And what was up with Granderson trying to bunt? Who's bright idea was that?!

227 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:14 pm

That ball has three potential outcomes from Martin's POV:

HR that lets him jog home
XBH on which he is at best 50-50 to score
Catch that forces him back to first

He should have been standing on 2B, not rounding it.

228 rbj   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:16 pm

229 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:16 pm

230 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:17 pm

[223] Then cult is right [191] (I think). This is on the bats. The Yanks' pitchers have given up 8 runs over 3 and a half games. What more can the pitchers do?

Hughes: 6IP, 4H, 1R, 1HR, 3BB, 7K, 90 pitches. That's a brilliant performance. GET HIM SOME RUNS, DAMMIT!

[273] Respectively differ, might have been a zero with out it.

This Balto pitching is not that good, the hitters are just too anxious and nervous and undisciplined?
Is Arod even seeing the ball, he seems to be cheating on every swing.

What will happen when if the Yankees face the aces on Detroit, or SF or DC or St. Lou?

291 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:36 pm

295 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:38 pm

290) I think he's seeing the ball well tonight but he guessed wrong in that Hunter AB. Sitting on the heater gets the 81 mph change to start and then outthinks himself and looks at the next pitch, a fastball. That was the best pitch to hit.

296 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:38 pm

He's been our best player tonight ... with all that implies.

Sigh.

Jayson Nix, good man.

Can we let Nix bat again? The Yanks might score another run!

336 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:54 pm

[330] One (some?) had autographed baseball(s) inside, IIRC.

The more of their relievers that Showalter uses, the more I like the Yanks' chances.

337 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 8:55 pm

I am all for re-signing Nix as or UINF.

That was one long strike zone, Jeter was as hot as I've ever seen.

350 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:03 pm

two called strikes Jeter didn't like. What did they look like from the CF camera?

So much for Joba.

352 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:03 pm

Oooh.

Yeah, I like this! Good call!

355 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:04 pm

350) The first one was low, pitch tracker had it as a strike. But it's been a consistently called strike all night. But it was low. The strike three call was clearly a strike but it was up, so I think Jeter was saying you can't have it both ways.

356 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:04 pm

C'mon Hammer.

Everyone's a nail.

392 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:15 pm

[378] Yes, absolutely. Let the threat of a double steal rattle Matusz.

Bring Swish in to play 1st and put Leon in RF.

390) it ALWAYS comes to Alex...it's amazing really

396 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:16 pm

[374] Interesting. I had thought of that---then Gardner goes into the OF and Swish goes to 1B. If you PR, you almost have to steal. Or bunt.

397 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:16 pm

[390] If Cano hits a three-run bomb, it's not.

398 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:16 pm

393) I was just trolling...

399 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:17 pm

Then again, bunting with Cano is maybe not optimal.

400 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:17 pm

[396] That would work too - Ichiro in RF, Gardner in LF.

AFAIC, the threat of a double steal makes it all worthwhile.

Sheesh, Cano.

OK, A-Rod, let me say it again: redemption time!!!

413 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:20 pm

A pitching change. Just to make us sweat.

This is Alex's biggest at bat of the year. And the funny thing is he doesn't even need to get a hit, just a deep fly ball.

414 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:20 pm

Although, I'd pinch hit.

Right here, right now.

He is obviously not right in the lower body, and maybe will work it out in the off season. But for the rest of this year (and hopefully that is beyond tomorrow), he must be throttled.

502 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:38 pm

Letting Grandy bat here?!?

503 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:39 pm

0-2. We know what's coming next.

504 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:39 pm

I think Girardi is playing a hunch.

505 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:39 pm

Grander son down 0-2? I'm shocked

506 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:39 pm

0-2 I might still send Raul up for him.

507 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:40 pm

Boy, he WANTED to swing at those two pitches though. LOL

508 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:40 pm

Hang one O'day

509 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:40 pm

ONE TIME CURTIS! PLEASE!

510 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:40 pm

Walk him!

511 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:41 pm

Got it, but didn't quite get it.

512 Capital Yank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:41 pm

Fuck Smoltz saying frisbee anymore

513 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:41 pm

This is just asking too much. But I'm asking anyway.

514 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:41 pm

Except this time Ibanez isn't going yard. And this game is going to extras. And the O's are going to win.

515 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:41 pm

Well, at least not a strike out...

516 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:41 pm

Love to see him but he's PHing for the wrong guy IMHO.

517 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:42 pm

ugh.

cant say this is where id use leon.

518 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:42 pm

I'm just not a fan of PH with two outs and no one on, and PH for the one guy who's had a decent night with the stick.

Then again, if he hits another HR, my complaints will be "mute."

519 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:42 pm

0-2 and he's going to whiff, too.

520 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:42 pm

This feels greedy to me

521 mr whirly   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:44 pm

well, that was premature

522 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:44 pm

Now, who? I'd go with Phelps.

523 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:44 pm

Argh.

So, hm, any way to double switch so Ibanez can stay in the game??

524 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:44 pm

Assuming no HR here, would you pull a double switch with Ibanez, so that he stays in the game for another potential AB? For example, pull Granderson or Swisher and leave Ibanez in the OF, moving Nunez to SS?

525 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:45 pm

[522] Damn you.

526 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:45 pm

The Yankees performance against Hammel, Chen, Gonzalez and Saunders is the mark of a team that doesn't deserve to advance. Just absolutely putrid against incredibly mediocre pitching.

527 mr whirly   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:45 pm

it's like '01

528 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:45 pm

[523] The flaw in your plan is someone might hit the ball to Nunez or Ibanez.

529 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:46 pm

Yeah, not the move I would have made.

Meh.

530 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:46 pm

[526] 2001 had Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling.

This is not like 2001.

531 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:46 pm

[525] Thing is, I don't care whether they deserve it. I want them to advance whether they deserve it or not.

Desert is overrated in baseball.

532 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:46 pm

Oh, the sure handed Eduardo Nunez now at short.

533 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:46 pm

Besides, Nune5 at SS, what could possibly go wrong???

534 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:47 pm

[530] Depends if we're talking about cheesecake or not. Cheesecake is NEVER overrated.

535 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:47 pm

[532] Perhaps that will be the key to the game!

The beer I'm drinking now is helping me almost believe that.

536 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:47 pm

The ball will find Nunez this inning......

537 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:47 pm

[527] That's not the flaw in my plan, it's the flaw in Girardi's plan for PH for Nix. In any case Nunez will be in the field.

538 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:48 pm

[525] A win is a win. I'll take it however ugly they might be.

539 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:48 pm

Can't walk him, man. Please, don't walk him.

540 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:49 pm

Gotta get Babe Flaherty here

541 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:49 pm

I completely missed this implication of that pinch hit at the time. Terrible decision.

542 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:49 pm

Good job.

543 mr whirly   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:50 pm

[529] I meant the general anemic offense. You're right, opposing pitchers better in 01

544 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:50 pm

Machado scares me to death...not sure if its his first name or Andrew jones flashbacks

545 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:50 pm

Raul PH for Grandy and the D change is so much less dangerous.

546 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:51 pm

[543] Yikes! Both terrifying thoughts.

547 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:51 pm

C'mon Sori, put him away now.

548 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:52 pm

That 2-2 fastball was just elevated enough not to be dangerous. Phew.

549 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:52 pm

That's two. One more. The motherfucker McClouth.

550 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:52 pm

548) trademark that

551 JeremyM   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:53 pm

So last night when he said he was playing a gut feeling pinch-hitting for A-Rod, I thought he was just being diplomatic. But based on NOT hitting for him tonight, he really must have been managing by gut because there was no reason to think A-Rod would get the run home there. Unreal. I'm not picking on A-Rod but he has looked awful against O'Day.

552 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:53 pm

[548] McClouth is Trot Nixon level annoying at this point.

553 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:53 pm

No, Cal. Don't be careful with him. Douche.

554 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:53 pm

Beautiful. Now Let's Earn that MONEY BOYS!

555 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:54 pm

McClouth's hair should get its own AB

556 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:54 pm

[542] Oh, I get what you mean. But not hitting Johnson and Schilling at their terrifying peaks is so much different than getting shut down by Joe Saunders.

557 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:54 pm

Soriano has been great this season. All is forgiven to RandyHankHal for that signing.

558 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:55 pm

[554] He looks like Paula Poundstone.

559 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:55 pm

God damn this is fun! Get it done this inning! My job performance can't suffer any more

560 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:56 pm

Of course, there's an excellent chance we won't get to the Nix/Ibanez/Nunez slot again in this game, so maybe the point is mute.

561 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:56 pm

Enough of this O'Day character, really.

562 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:56 pm

Time to end this series, boys.

563 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:57 pm

Feck!

564 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:57 pm

Check swing? Really? Ugh.

565 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:57 pm

Got to be kidding me.

566 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:57 pm

Getting a Wakefield 03 vibe.

567 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:57 pm

What is this first pitch swinging shit?

568 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:57 pm

Two pitches, two outs. Good job boys.

569 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:57 pm

Oh come on.
Two pitches!

570 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:58 pm

God fucking dammit. 2 pitches. Bollocks!

571 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:58 pm

If Joba comes in, it's over for us, man.

572 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:58 pm

OH MY GOD, SCORE BEFORE JOBA GETS IN THERE

573 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:58 pm

Joba, really???

574 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:58 pm

Joba in the pen. Ho, boy.

575 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:58 pm

Uh oh. We better score now

576 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:58 pm

Hey! He didn't swing at the first pitch!

577 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:59 pm

I bet Teix walks.

578 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 9:59 pm

Jo Saunders. Yankee Killer.

579 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:00 pm

That's the only inside pitch he'll see...

580 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:00 pm

They should walk Robbie to get to Alex.

581 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:00 pm

Hey - its not an out!

582 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:00 pm

Knew it.

583 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:00 pm

Gardner?

584 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:00 pm

[577] the 09 team pounded him to clinch a series.

585 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:01 pm

[579] Serious?
That's what Cal thinks too!

586 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:01 pm

Okay, Cano. Hero time

587 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:01 pm

Rip one in the seats, Robbie!

588 JeremyM   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:01 pm

[579] Bring in Chavez then.

Cano hasn't done much either. Come on Robby.

589 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:01 pm

PR for Teix? I wouldn't, but I'd be tempted.

590 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:02 pm

What are you hacking at?

591 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:02 pm

Cano has done dick

592 JeremyM   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:02 pm

Terrible series by Cano. That was awful.

593 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:02 pm

Dear Buck,

Please bring in Strop.

Thanks.

594 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:02 pm

Weak sauce.

595 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:02 pm

This team needs to be beaten with a hobo.

Pathetic.

596 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:03 pm

Enter: Hell.

597 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:03 pm

Bring forth the JOBA.

598 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:03 pm

What's the over/under on number of XBHs Joba allows here?

599 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:04 pm

Joba....nightmare

600 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:05 pm

This won't end pretty.

Show/Hide Comments 601-700
601 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:05 pm

[597] 3.

I'll take the under.

602 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:05 pm

Yeah, I feel like our chance right now is lower than it's been all game! Is that ridiculous? It really seems that way. Yeesh.

603 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:05 pm

2 hits, 1 walk, 3 runs.

604 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:05 pm

Ichiro's hitting .211
Cano's hitting .116
Swisher's hitting .143
Rodriguez is hitting .133
Granderson's hitting .067 (!)

Again, Hammel, Chen, Gonzalez and Saunders.

605 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:05 pm

I don't know what the alternatives are....phelps? Garcia? Lowe? We are at the point where nothing is ideal but this is not gonna end well

606 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:05 pm

Oh shit, it's Mr. Creosote ...

607 Sliced Bread   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:06 pm

Fuck these midges. Yanks will win this.

608 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:06 pm

[601] Noted mediocre middle reliever Joba Chamberlain is in the game. Its not ridiculous

609 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:06 pm

1-1 count, 1-1 score in the 11th

610 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:06 pm

Tex!

611 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:06 pm

Nice play Tex!

612 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:06 pm

No fielding errors on your ledger here Alex. Yikes.

613 Sliced Bread   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:06 pm

Galloping Centaur!

614 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:07 pm

Wow, Teix!

Monkeypants, good thing no PR for him, huh?

615 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:07 pm

Ooopha. That's a big cut.

616 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:07 pm

Funky looking play.

617 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:07 pm

That's a crazy cut. Now go fastball outside. Not another slider, please.

618 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:07 pm

A-Rod at least still has some D.

619 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:07 pm

[613] Perhaps so. But Swisher might have made that play too, bro.

C'mon Joba, put 'em away!

620 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:07 pm

[607] And for the record, I don't blame Joe for this. You need to put in who you can. Someone on the team needed to hit Joe Saunders.

621 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:07 pm

[613] Hey, Swish would have made that play too!

622 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:07 pm

Like I said, bury another slider in the dirt.

623 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:08 pm

[604] Garcia and Lowe were left off the roster. But Phelps is our best guy left.

Still, no complaints so far!

624 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:08 pm

Can Joba go 2?

625 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:08 pm

[617] Other than the throw, I suppose.

626 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:08 pm

630 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:09 pm

Joba and Nuney say, "Eat shit, Banter!" " : )

631 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:09 pm

Nune5 made a clean play! Joba allowed no extra base hits - no hits at all!

Either this is the apocalypse, or the Yanks are winning this game!

632 randym77   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:09 pm

Nunez ain't so bad.

633 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:09 pm

7 pitches for Joba. We should see him again.

634 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:09 pm

635 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:09 pm

638 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:10 pm

Holy shit, that just brought back memories of Soriano (Alfonso) in the '03 playoffs. You called that one, AB. [668]

675 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:16 pm

I've taken to rocking and muttering the name "Joe Saunders."

676 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:16 pm

Well, that was hopeless. Joba for 2?

677 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:16 pm

That commercial was the best part of this entire game.

678 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:17 pm

shit.

c'mon Joba.. roll these bitches.

679 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:18 pm

Just get these guys, Joba. Nunez is going to be the hero.

680 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:18 pm

An exercise in futility, the best of the AL East?

681 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:18 pm

we need a thelarmis infusion to fire up the goddamn score truck.

'LARMIS! WTF ARE YOU??

682 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:18 pm

685 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:19 pm

Welp, here comes the good/bad luck. Oh shit, Joba got hit.

686 JeremyM   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:19 pm

Aw crap.

687 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:20 pm

Joba's a bit cursed this year.

691 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:20 pm

Don't be stupid. Take him out.

692 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:20 pm

This can no way be good. He cant' stay in and be effective.

693 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:21 pm

No control.

694 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:21 pm

Poor fucking Joba. The Midges was his good day,

695 JeremyM   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:21 pm

Guess the midges were busy tonight and sent the bat in their place.

696 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:21 pm

Hit the shower Joba.

697 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:21 pm

Yeah, he's tough, but he's not smart. Girardi's biggest move of the night.

698 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:22 pm

Definitely take him out, definitely.

699 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:22 pm

I'm not sure how we'd tell if Joba is pitching injured or pitching like Joba.

Derek Lowe, I guess?

Who comes in now? Phelps?

705 randym77   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:23 pm

I'm suddenly reminded of Jaret Wright, and his tendency to attract flying objects. I haven't thought of him in years.

706 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:23 pm

On the bright side: it's Lew Ford, not Jim Thome.

707 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:23 pm

Seriously, the sharp end of that bat could have pierced his body. These skinny handled maple bats should be banned.

708 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:24 pm

[705] I'd wager that terrible players have beat us more than Hall of Famers this year

709 Sliced Bread   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:24 pm

703) CC

710 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:24 pm

[705] shhh!

711 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:24 pm

[707] Could be, but I'd rather face terrible players anyway.

712 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:25 pm

[706] I've made the argument for years, and I stole it from my brother, the league should seriously look at more tightly regulating bats: get rid of the skinny handle-hollow end bats. It would be safer and fewer broken bats might even speed the game up a tad.

713 JeremyM   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:25 pm

[706] Pretty sure someone did get pierced by one a few years back.

714 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:25 pm

Who goes against CC tomorrow?
Meanwhile, Verlander has a 2 hitter against the A's. 2-0 after 6.

715 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:25 pm

[707] Given that there are far more terrible players in MLB than Hall of Famers right now, I'd say you'd win that wager.

716 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:25 pm

[706] Aren't maple bats darker in color?

717 randym77   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:26 pm

So, if Joba's out for a week...who replaces him on the roster?

718 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:26 pm

[713] Nobody.

719 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:26 pm

720 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:26 pm

721 randym77   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:27 pm

[712] Yes. Tyler Colvin.

722 JeremyM   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:27 pm

724 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:27 pm

[716] Ummm . . . I have no idea. If Aardsma had gotten more pitching in the bigs, I'd say him. Eppley, maybe?

725 DC   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:28 pm

Nice move- no nerves at all

726 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:28 pm

A 6-4-3 would be in order..but..Nunez?

727 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:28 pm

No bunt, interesting. Probably right.

728 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:30 pm

[714] I'd venture that the Lew Ford level atrocious player still in the bigs is pretty close to as rare as the truly great players.

729 randym77   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:30 pm

[715] I don't think so. Maple is one of the lightest colored woods. They are also painted many different colors. IIRC, MLB did a study and found that two-toned bats are the least likely to shatter. They were considering requiring maple bats to be two-toned. Dunno if they did it or not.

730 JeremyM   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:30 pm

Um, he's been calling that a strike ALL NIGHT!

731 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:30 pm

And even if we do fucking trip into a god damned win tomorrow, this total disgrace of a game has shot our pitching staff to shit for the LCS

850 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:58 pm

I really, really, really dislike TBS. Intensely. Someone said earlier that FOX will be a relief. I didn't agree then, but I do now.

851 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:58 pm

Bullpen Rouxlette! Exciting!

852 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:58 pm

[829] Well put. I always wondered what the "H" was for. Anyone know?

853 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:59 pm

I guess it's the time to get all tactical and shit, but the pitching changes are killing me.

854 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 10:59 pm

[832] that dude is one ugly motherfucker and he spells his last name WRONG (which *really* pisses me off). plus, he sucks at pitching. i watched the first 4 or 5 innings at work (during a performance clinic); he was throwing a bunch of bullshit and our bats were fast asleep.

855 Sliced Bread   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:00 pm

Douchebag Orioles

856 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:00 pm

And by the way, decline Granderson's option. I want him nowhere near this fucking team next year.

857 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:01 pm

I have the sound off. Do we know why those dorks are shaking their gatorade?

858 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:01 pm

Okay Yankees - shit on Jim Johnson already

859 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:01 pm

will it be Mystique or Aura that wins the game for us?

860 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:02 pm

I wonder if Swisher had as much fun rolling around the outfield as we did watching him.

861 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:02 pm

[857] Why not? Its been one of the constants of this ALDS.

862 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:03 pm

[848] I don't think the pitching staff is too badly damaged, the starters went deep, and the relievers have not been worked hard, except for Robertson.

I'd be more concerned that the entire offense is in the shitter.

863 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:03 pm

Now what we need is for the Yankees to tie so the game can continue. What fun!

864 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:05 pm

[861] Who starts Game Two?

865 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:05 pm

[862] I figure D-Lowe has about three innings in him.

866 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:06 pm

Goddamn was Tex fooled

867 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:06 pm

Great job Tex! Swing at strike four!

868 JeremyM   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:06 pm

God, it always comes down to A-Rod.

869 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:06 pm

Looking grim.

870 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:06 pm

Aiiiieeeee, Robbie! Why not take a pitch or two?!?!

And its not up to Alex at all.

871 JeremyM   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:07 pm

NOW HE PINCH HITS FOR HIM!

872 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:07 pm

it always comes down to Alex...

but, wait!

c'mon Eric!!!

873 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:07 pm

Piss on this shitty game. The offense owes the pitching staff dinner for the entire off-season.

874 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:08 pm

If Chavez walks, or otherwise gets on, Swish gets a shot at redemption.

Or not. Fucking a.

875 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:09 pm

There's maybe like two or three hitters on this team I want back next year.

876 RIYank   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:09 pm

Good try, Eric!

CC you tomorrow, gentlemen.

877 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:09 pm

what a bunch o' fuckin' bollocks.

: (

878 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:09 pm

Maybe we should root for Baltimore tomorrow - I don't know that I want to watch this Yankee team anymore.

879 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:09 pm

Its over.

Maybe next year we can face the Twins again. We can beat them!

880 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:10 pm

Cocksucking Motherfucking Horseshit on a shingle!

881 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:10 pm

[875] And now to bed, 'cuz the game, she starts early tomorrow.

882 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:12 pm

Eh, all my crabbiness aside, I think Yankees win tomorrow.

883 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:13 pm

[863] Kuroda, no? And he was the best pitcher for the team this season. Pettitte in Game 1. And CCis still lined up for two possible starts (3 and 6 or 7).

884 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:13 pm

[876] Never mind the Bollocks, here's the Sex Pistols!

885 Bobtaco   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:15 pm

It was right there.

No outs, second and third. And Joe should have pinch hit for Arod again in the 8th. It would have been way more insulting than yesterday, but I would bet Chavez would have put the ball in play and they score the run.

Bad bad mojo.

886 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:16 pm

[877] i don't think you'll have to root for ball tumor - then win anyway...

887 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:17 pm

[883] "bollocks" is probably my favorite word. sex pistols are easily one of my *least* favorite bands...

888 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:17 pm

[884] It was second and third, one out. But the larger point still stands.

889 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:19 pm

[886] They made a pretty great album. "Pretty Vacant" still rocks.

890 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:19 pm

[884] holy crap, i didn't realize that scenario! did a-rod hit into a dp or strikeout? either way, that makes this loss all the worse.

i can't believe we can't beat this bullshit ballclub. we don't deserve to advance...

891 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:20 pm

[888] You think so? Always felt that album was terrible, the band completely talentless, though do like Ludon's early PiL albums.

892 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:20 pm

[888] just not my style of music. i can't get into it. i'm sure their stuff is good for the genre.

893 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:20 pm

[889] See [887]

894 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:21 pm

[890] iirc, guys like steve vai and ginger baker play on a PiL album. i agree with you wholeheartedly on the pistols. (and generally that whole style of music...)

895 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:22 pm

I can't believe Cano's actually been worse than Alex. I'd say sit Alex but what do you do about Granderson? And Swisher? You can't sit them all.

896 Bruce Markusen   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:23 pm

Listening to Jack Curry on the postgame, he says Girardi needs to find spots for Ibanez and Chavez in the Game Five lineup against Hammel. I think he's right.

A-Rod to the bench? Swisher to the bench? Granderson to the bench? Two of them might have to sit.

897 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:23 pm

i just looked at the play-by-play for the 8th.

a-rod can be the lead guitarist for a band like the sex pistols! ; )

898 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:25 pm

[894] sure you can. i say they send out a "Bronx Banter" lineup. i think we'd score at least 2 runs in 13 innings. (keep the yankees' pitchers)

899 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:26 pm

895) Can you sit Cano, too? I mean, for as hot as he was, he's been awful. I think Swisher had some good swings tonight. Alex had that hit but I think he's really out of it now, and Granderson just looks helpless. That said, Ichiro has been almost as bad.

900 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:27 pm

[890] I think Cook-Jones-Matlock had a great sound, despite the whole Malcolm McLaren circus surrounding the band. There were better punk bands, to be sure, but the Pistols were necessary and have a handful of great tracks. Don't forget the soul-sucking, glib, corporate nature of popular rock'n'roll at the time. Those vampires had plenty of "talent"

[898] I have a hunch Girardi's M.O. is just going to be "Lets hope CC is great and someone hits a 3 run homer."

902 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:28 pm

[898] What can you do but play the %'s? Got to assume that A-Rod, Cano and Ichiro, three of the best hitters we've ever seen, can make some good contact...eventually...

903 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:30 pm

[901] It's true - you have to think something's gotta give.

904 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:30 pm

can't sit cano. too good on D. bats must awaken tomorrow. or there will be no tomorrow...

905 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:30 pm

[899] Hey, you're telling me Boston/Journey/Kansa/Styx were not bringing the true Rock to arenas around the Greater US region at that time?

906 monkeypants   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:31 pm

[898] Some depends on where jeter plays. If he can play the field, then you can open the DH for Ibanez and sit A-Rod for Chavez at 3B. I'd be willing to start Gardner over Granderson. Hell, you can also start Nix for Cano, if you wanted to go balls to the walls.

907 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:31 pm

[904] people might not dig those bands too much, but there's no denying the high level of musical talent there.

btw, still waiting on 3 BN titles to arrive...from taiwan.

908 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:34 pm

On top of all this shite (one of my British favs), I broke my toe today. That's gonna set my running back.

909 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:34 pm

how was the reception for willie throwing the 1st pitch?

is he coaching somewhere?

910 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:35 pm

[904] Sure, that was the big problem with rock in the 70s though. Awesomely talented musicians making some of the worst albums ever. Yes, ELP, etc..individually brilliant but man, try listening to "Taled From Topographic Oceans" now...

911 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:35 pm

[907] hope you heal quickly, man! make sure it's healed thoroughly before running again. toes/feet/ankles can be tricky...

912 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:36 pm

[907] funny - i LOVE the word bollocks, but hate "shite" and the "c-word" is not in my vocabulary. (neither is the "n" word...)

913 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:39 pm

[909] i did listen to Tales recently. i have a good 30 YES cd's! that was a transition period for them and an ill-advised effort. it happens. the 3 studio records before that were ungodly and most of the 3 after it were also really great.

914 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:45 pm

[912] Wow! Really?? I don't think I could get 10mins into that record. A lot of pointless noodling from what I remember (then again, a lot of prog rock AND jazz can be pointles noodling!)

915 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:46 pm

[907] Ouch, Boat! One of those Ginza-stilleto ladies step on your foot outside your office? :)

916 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:47 pm

[904] [906] Welcome to the Grand Illusion....which is more than a feeling, even though it's only dust in the wind. But don't stop believing!

917 thelarmis   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:49 pm

[913] yeah...i don't dig Tales, at all! i hear ya on that one. not a good example to represent Yes. that album was too forced and unfocused. the albums released on either side of it are really great!

918 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:49 pm

[914] Stubbing my toe on our cock ass WC. You know the ones where the door frame is 5 inches above floor level for some reason.

I have stubbed my toes dozens of times in this house and this is probably my second break. You just don't think to lift your foot up like a goose stepper when you are entering the goddamn loo.

919 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:49 pm

[915] Oh be quiet-O, Mr. Roboto.

Guess we won't make it to 1000 on this thread..

920 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:52 pm

[916] Was listening to Yes with my Sachi yesterday and explaining the chess references.

921 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 11, 2012 11:54 pm

Boys, I gotta go....remember, don't surround yourself with yourself.
