Uh-oh, URP alert.

3 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 12:29 pm

Boom. That was a long line drive.

4 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 12:39 pm

"He's a baseball player. He's a solid little player. He knows how to play the game."

Definitely. Hard to argue with any of those.

(YES crew effusing praise on Nix.)

5 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 12:39 pm

On my way to Charleston, for a few days...

Go CC!!! Go Yanks!!!

6 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 12:42 pm

That Nixy. He sure is a baseball player.

Kai Winding is a sackbut player. He knows how to play the trombone.

7 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 22, 2013 12:43 pm

[5] Great food in Charleston.

Damn, great fucking play by Longoria ...

8 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 12:43 pm

[36] I hope he plays it the right way. Because if you blow in the wrong end it doesn't make any sound.

9 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 12:43 pm

Please take the square root of my comment number reference above.

10 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 12:49 pm

Cult - yeah man. I used to play there all the time in the mid-late 90's. I'm sitting in on an old buddy's gig tonight... Unfortunately, it's supposed to rain almost the whole time we're gonna be there...

RI - there's a definite joke in there! Oh, and school's out for me, as of yesterday, so no math for me! ; )

11 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 12:57 pm

[10] Oh, sorry. Okay, class dismissed.

12 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:02 pm

Hang in there, Lyle...He's going to give you a change up, here.

13 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:03 pm

Ugh.

14 rbj   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:05 pm

Zoilo!

15 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:06 pm

The KID!

16 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:06 pm

Oh no, Zoilo is in big trouble.
Didn't anyone tell him you're not allowed to get a base hit with the bases loaded and two out???

17 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:06 pm

ZOILO!!!

18 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:07 pm

Zoily earnin his pinstripes!

19 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:09 pm

I brought my pencil. Gimme somethin to write on!

(I can't see comment #'s on my iPhone...)

20 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:10 pm

Monkeypants will be pissed at this development, we all know how much he loves watching Vernon Wells ...

21 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:11 pm

I do wish his name was Zolio and not Zoilo. I might just refer to him as Zolio...

22 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:12 pm

Yeah, Ichi and Vern in the outfield was doing a number on mp!

23 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:14 pm

[20] We'll think of some goading comforting words for him.

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:31 pm

[19] In Russia, teacher is hot for you!

25 rbj   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:33 pm

Ichirobbed!

26 Chyll Will   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:37 pm

[23] Gorn... Very woody sort of word... Gorrrrn...

27 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:38 pm

Need to take advantage of the error, boys.

28 rbj   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:39 pm

shift that.

29 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:42 pm

[26] I prefer 'murmur'.

(It has the advantage of being an actual word, too.)

30 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:44 pm

Turn him loose! Turn loose The Z on 3-0!

31 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:45 pm

Nope, taking all the way.
Okay, damage pitch...
By him, nice pitch.

Here we go, Z, this is the moment...

32 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:45 pm

Spoiled.

Here we go, try again bro...

33 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:45 pm

Nice job fouling that pitch off.

34 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:45 pm

And GREAT take, wow. ONIONS.

35 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:46 pm

Oh, very, very nice.

In a way that was more impressive than a hit.

Love this kid. Love.

36 rbj   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:47 pm

I'll take that. Good. Eye and patience.

37 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:47 pm

One from Column B, and 4.1 from Colome.

38 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:48 pm

Zoleo the walking dude!

39 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:55 pm

Nixy - unprofessional hitter. Perhaps he's an auto mechanic.

40 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:55 pm

Frickin' Torres.

41 rbj   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:55 pm

Rats.

42 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 1:56 pm

[39] He doesn't know how to play, is the problem. And, he's a liquid.

43 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:00 pm

Uh oh. Lead in jeopardy.

44 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:01 pm

Hm, I think I'd play the infield in here.

45 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:02 pm

Huge K for Huge CC.

46 rbj   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:04 pm

pop foul.

47 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:04 pm

Overbay
Makes the play
And CC's just an out away...

48 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:04 pm

Hmmmmmm.
I dunno. I don't know about this.
I guess CC doesn't walk many guys, but I don't like it.

49 rbj   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:07 pm

Shit!

50 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:07 pm

Yeah.

IBBs suck.

51 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:09 pm

Fuck. Dammit, CC.

52 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:10 pm

I was fairly neutral on Sam Fuld for a long time. He was just kinda a run of the mill bad player.

Then he showed up to the all star game and joined the little kids trying to catch balls during the home run derby and he became the most infuriatingly pathetic baseball player I've ever seen. And now he's in the middle of every motherfucking rally the Rays have against the Yankees. HE'S A TERRIBLE BASEBALL PLAYER. GET HIM OUT.

53 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:17 pm

What a pile of shit. I have little faith the Yanks can score three more runs in this game.

54 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:18 pm

I'm guessing our offense will go fast asleep from here on out...

55 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:33 pm

Hafner missed a cookie, man. Jesus.

56 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:37 pm

Z Trip...c'mon, kid, we need runs.

57 monkeypants   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:39 pm

[20][23] i'm just happy it only took like $13 million and half a season for the Yankees to figure out that Vernon Wells is cooked. Of course, the first bad game by almonte and I'm sure Verny and his veteran goodness will be back out there, anchoring the lineup.

58 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:40 pm

Nice patience. Again, bases loaded 1 out for Nix. Let's see if they can, you know, score this time.

59 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:41 pm

57) Remind me to never get on your bad side. You sure know how to get after something that irks you. LOL

60 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:46 pm

Oh, are you kidding? Foul by an inch.

61 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:46 pm

Sigh.

62 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:47 pm

Same pitch he struck out on last time.

63 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:47 pm

Fucking Adams has to looking to drive that fucking pitch, man.

64 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:48 pm

Stoopid fuck! That's twice.

What's YES saying now about the knowledgeable baseball player?

65 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:48 pm

Down, 1-2, I have ZERO confidence in Adams here. ZERO.

66 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:49 pm

He got lucky on the 2-2 pitch. And now he'll come inside and get him. Or even further away.

67 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:50 pm

Yep, go to that cross, McGee, you need it...

Abandoned by Jesus!

68 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:50 pm

What do I know? Second walk of his career, both today. WTF?

69 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:50 pm

[66] Further away was right. Adams showed stones though. (Or just froze, I dunno.)

70 rbj   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:51 pm

I'll take that BB.

Oh no, Joe.

71 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:51 pm

Monkey, where you at? Here's your chance to shine!

72 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:51 pm

Ah, monkeypants will be so happy! Perfect opportunity!

73 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:51 pm

Time to get the monkey off your back, Vern!

74 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:51 pm

VW for MP!!!

75 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:52 pm

This should be quick.

76 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:53 pm

Hey Vern!!!!

77 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:53 pm

Do you believe in miracles??!?!?!?!

78 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:54 pm

Oh, crap, bad break. Dammit. Need that other run, man.

79 rbj   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:54 pm

Wells how about that. Stupid fan.

80 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:54 pm

Fans are dopes; and the schmuck dropped the ball to boot.

81 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:55 pm

Wow, they're giving us the run! I always forget about that rule. Good call.

82 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:55 pm

Wha happened?!

83 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:56 pm

Huh, I think Michael is right, it's actually good for us that the fan touched it.

84 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:57 pm

Yay Vernon!

85 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:57 pm

[82] Oh, the ball bounced high off the wall and actually went into a fan's glove, apparently while still over the field of play. The umps saw it and sent the runners back, but then they conferred and decided that Adams would have scored.

86 rbj   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:57 pm

O.k. That is way weird. Fan doesn't touch it, it goes into the stands and guy has to go back to third.

87 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:58 pm

There are strange things done in the midnight sun,
by the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that day on the field of YSII
We cremated Jake McGee.

88 monkeypants   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:58 pm

That Vernon Wells should pinch hit for anyone is bizarre, but he rewards Girardi with the rarest play in baseball: a base clearing ground rule double.

89 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:59 pm

(I always think of that poem when McGee takes the mound, but I don't think the Yankees ever cremated him before.)

90 monkeypants   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:59 pm

[81] If only they made that same call back in 2004...

91 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:59 pm

88) That's baseball for you Suzyn, you just can't predict it.

92 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:59 pm

[88] I think he's earned himself another forty starts, don't you?

93 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 2:59 pm

Thanks RI!!!

Vern baby Vern!!!

94 monkeypants   ~  Jun 22, 2013 3:06 pm

[92] Oh you know it. I imagine he's back to "shortening his stroke" and "hitting the ball the other way," just like April. All he needed was a little incentive, watching Almonte from the bench. They don't call Girardi a Chessmaster for nothing.

95 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 3:07 pm

NAILED.
The Alabama Hamma is back.

96 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 3:08 pm

Hamma!!!

97 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 3:10 pm

[94] You know, he is a Professional Hitter. He and Nix can go into business together: both Professionals.

And, don't forget, they know how to play the game, so that's a huge plus.

98 thelarmis   ~  Jun 22, 2013 3:11 pm

Well they are baseball players, ya know.

99 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 3:12 pm

Jeez, the shot of the dugout looks like it's father-and-son day.

100 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 3:14 pm

OMG.

Is this Rob's first 4-walk game???

103 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 3:24 pm

Holy Mo-ly.
No cutters!

104 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 3:26 pm

Ah, Mo.

106 RIYank   ~  Jun 22, 2013 3:31 pm

Thanks be to Mo.

107 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 22, 2013 6:56 pm

Morning cup O' joe here and the game thread. You guys are the best, always so entertaining and informative. I even learned that Nix was a baseball player! :)

108 Chyll Will   ~  Jun 22, 2013 8:26 pm

So um, how about a recap, Jazz? >;)

109 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 22, 2013 10:29 pm

[107] And he plays the game the "right" way. You know how some guys are always trying play the wrong way, like running to third when they hit the ball instead of to first. Well, Nixy doesn't do that. Why? Because he's solid. A very solid citizen. A ball player. Did I mention that he's a professional? No amateur, that Nixy. He gets paid to play...the right way.

110 Sliced Bread   ~  Jun 23, 2013 6:40 am

it's a little too early in the morning for this, but sing it with me anyway, monkeypants:

Vern out the day,
Vern out the night,
there ain't no reason to put up a fight.
I'm Vernon, I'm Vernon, I'm Vernon for you!

111 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 23, 2013 6:43 am
