I didn't like it when Verlander got the MVP; a CY award is sufficient kudos for a pitcher. After all, he plays in 20% (or less) of the team's games (although one might argue that his impact is a bit larger when teams set their lineups knowing they have to face him tomorrow). (I'd make an exception for a great reliever who appears in 40-60 games!)

Not a knock on Kershaw in any way. I think the MVP discussion about him is due, in part, to the lack of a clear-cut standout posiion player, although McCutcheon certainly ought to be in the discussion.

Yeah, I don't mind Kershaw's candidacy, but I hope to see Andrew McCutchen get as much ink down the stretch here. I'd vote for Cutch today, but it's not over by a long shot.
