The Yanks lost again. And they are frustrated.

Jeter went 0-3 with a sacrifice. He’s only got 12 games, maybe less if he takes a day off. Never been a guy who really needs anything from the fans but now we’ll be rooting him on more than ever, even if it is just window dressing on his great career. Be nice to see him go out with a few more hits, score a couple of runs, smile that famous smile.

Turned the game off after it was 6-1 so I missed the whole kerfuffle. First Rays batter needs to wear seams tonight. And in the ensuing scrum, punch Maddon in the head.

The last time the playoffs happened two years in a row without the Yankees involved...

- Nolan Ryan, Carlton Fisk, George Brett, Steve Balboni, Tim Teufel and Frank Tanana were coming off their last seasons as active players.
- Billy Joel's "River of Dreams" album was in heavy rotation.
- Lennox Lewis was taking on Frank Bruno.
- Pete Sampras was your U.S. Open Champion.
- Gas cost $1.16.
- Derek Jeter batted .295 for the A-ball Greensboro Hornets.
- Rodney King, Boris Yeltsin and the Branch Davidians were in the headlines.
- I was already a working college graduate and, in consequence, feel extra old writing this.

Am I just wallowing in it now? Yes. Yes I am. But I'll be there Sunday to wave goodbye to Jeter and hope I'm the lucky fan who catches Tanaka's arm when it flies off into the stands.
