"Making love and breaking hearts is a game for youth." Hope it's not too late for the Big Guy.

2 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 6:16 pm

Man, that was some shot.

3 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 6:16 pm

Yay-Rob!
Always nice to see a Yankee first inning lead.

4 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 6:16 pm

If we win, our record will be 21-12

I can think of another pretty good record by the same name...

2112 should bring dianagram back!

5 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 6:18 pm

Weeping - from the earlier thread, were you thinking of Jose Contreras?

6 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 6:20 pm

Dagnab it, I missed an A-Bomb!

7 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 6:20 pm

[5] Jesus, duh! Thank you. :)

8 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 6:20 pm

I'll only be able to catch the last few innings...

Did Alex hit 662?!

9 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 6:20 pm

It's amazing how things start to blur together.

10 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 6:21 pm

[8] And how.

11 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 6:23 pm

Not sure if you guys saw this. It's kind of awesome. I got it from MLB trade rumors last week...

Another long-time big league right-hander, Kyle Farnsworth, has other athletic endeavors in mind. As Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports, the 39-year-old former reliever is now suiting up on the defensive line for the Orlando Phantoms — and is credited with 11 sacks, the second-highest tally in the Florida Football Alliance. (Attentive fans will recall that Farnsworth showed some gridiron promise at times on the diamond.)

12 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 6:23 pm

Oh, CC.

This is painful.

13 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2015 6:24 pm

I love CC and he's a great guy but, man, how long can this go on?.
And he's ALWAYS thisclose to putting it together (supposedly).

14 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 6:24 pm

Come on big guy, keep it together.

15 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 6:24 pm

[11] For real?

16 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 6:24 pm

Uuuuuuugly.

17 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 6:26 pm

Interesting not swinging strategy by the Rays. I bet Maddon would be proud.

18 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 6:26 pm

Should have thrown to second.

19 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 6:27 pm

Oops! Shoulda stuck with the not swinging strategy.

20 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 6:29 pm

I hate saying this, but is CC just plain done?

God knows I want him to succeed but he just seems to have nothing.

21 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 6:29 pm

Hm. Sometimes swinging works, too.

22 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 6:31 pm

Out of challenges now.

23 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 6:45 pm

Keep that up, CC!

24 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 6:45 pm

Can't predict baseball.

25 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2015 6:46 pm

I would truly love for this team to be good enough to allow CC a long leash - he deserves it. And, if they do, I have a feeling that the Big Fells could be a great late-seldom pitcher.

26 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2015 6:46 pm

Season, not seldom. Fuckng autocorrect

27 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 6:58 pm

Sounds like Tanaka's prognosis is good (knock on wood).

28 coleman42   ~  May 11, 2015 6:58 pm

[25] I like your optimistic view!

29 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 7:00 pm

[27] Kind of a crap shoot though, I always think.

Remember how many people thought Pineda was all done? That kind of labrum surgery you can't really come back from, blah blah blah.
And now, suddenly, you could mention him in the same breath with the most promising pitchers in baseball.

30 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 7:05 pm

Yes.

Who knows what will be.

31 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2015 7:09 pm

Me likey.

32 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 7:09 pm

I was just reading (boston.com) about "pitcher's counts" and "batters counts". Here's what really surprised me.
When the count is 2-1, batters hit .820 OPS when they put the ball in play. For 1-1 counts, it's very similar. For 1-2 counts, it's about half the OPS: .407.
I knew it mattered, but damn. You really, really want to get ahead of batters.
(The Red Sox staff is even worst in 2-1 counts, is why they published the article. Something like .920 against.)

33 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 7:09 pm

But Chase likes the 0-0 count!

34 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 7:10 pm

That's Headley!

35 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2015 7:13 pm

I don't know where the rest of you live, but is anyone interested in taking in a random weekday home game either in the bleachers or the grandstand behind the plate?

36 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2015 7:14 pm

[4] Dates this week. 5-10-15, 5-11-15, 5-12-15, 5-13-15, 5-14-15, 5-15-15, 5-16-15.

37 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 7:20 pm

There's life left in the old fatty yet.

38 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2015 7:27 pm

Sweeeet! Atta boy, Carlos! Rocket shot!

39 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 7:27 pm

Beltran is heating up.

I heartily approve of the Yankees hitting homers.

40 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 7:35 pm

Statues don't move very well.

41 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 7:38 pm

I badly want to see CC do well, so this is making me happy.

42 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2015 7:41 pm

I keep going back to 2007 when the whole world thought Mussina was cooked. It took him a bit to figure out how to get by with his stuff. And then he won 20 games the next year. No way am I giving up on CC any time soon.

43 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2015 7:42 pm

Is the next Rays pitcher named Column B?

44 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 11, 2015 7:43 pm

I missed some extra large taters?

[35] Join you in spirit, if not in presence!

45 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 7:46 pm

That was odd.

46 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 7:47 pm

Contrary to Mattpat Law, Just Standing There has a lot to be said for it.

47 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 7:48 pm

[43] Dammit, you stole my pun
[35] in Toledo, so have to wait for SWB.

48 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 7:50 pm

[46] Yes. Especially when you run like me.

49 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 7:52 pm

Yay!

50 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 7:52 pm

Holy fuck!

Brett with the POWER!

51 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 7:53 pm

Okay, if Sabathia can't win this game he should give up.

52 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 7:53 pm

Brett would be my favorite Yankee if he had any personality at all.

53 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 7:56 pm

[52] Hahaha! So true!

54 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 11, 2015 7:57 pm

The team is playing so well..I'd like to write a trollarticle on how getting team-player A-Rod back and losing selfish Captain Jete worked wonders for the chemistry... :)

55 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 7:57 pm

Curtis was the best. He was such a joy to root for.

56 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 7:58 pm

[54] Hahahah!

57 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 7:58 pm

Shoot, had to let the Chihuahua out, missed Brett's tater.

58 coleman42   ~  May 11, 2015 8:00 pm

CC's back!

59 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 8:04 pm

Large and in charge!

60 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 8:10 pm

SPEED ON THE BASES!

61 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 8:10 pm

Next up, double digits

62 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 8:12 pm

Good run there, Wheels.

63 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 8:17 pm

Huh.
Two pitches.

64 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 8:18 pm

Come on, CC...

65 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 8:18 pm

Oh for God's sake.

66 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 8:18 pm

CC looks a little like Deputy Dog, doesn't he?

67 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 8:19 pm

No, that's not who I'm thinking of, not Deputy Dog. But who...?

68 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 8:23 pm

Ok.

For the love of God, that's it.

No save situation, please. I'd as soon keep this one a laugher and spare our pen, yes?

69 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 8:25 pm

[67] I would suggest Magilla Gorilla, but I do not want to go there. Just going by size and period cartoons.

AB, feel free to delete if you think it's inappropriate.

27 Ks in the last two games. More, even.

70 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 8:26 pm

Still a laugher?
Just not quite as funny as it was fifteen minutes ago.

71 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 8:26 pm

[69] "More, even": Snagglepuss! Right?

72 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:27 pm

finally home. i love the 9 runs, but CC kinda lost it.

looking forward to catching up on the fireworks!

73 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2015 8:27 pm

Don't you just hate it when YES runs that same annoying commercial back-to-back?

74 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 8:30 pm

Not Droopy Dog, right?

75 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:35 pm

don't do that carp!

76 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 8:35 pm

I think I'm ready for the Carpenter Epoch to be over.

77 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 8:36 pm

Oy.

78 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2015 8:36 pm

Oh ferfuck's sake!

79 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:38 pm

oopsie!

80 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 8:39 pm

Oh, whew.
Good hustle, Young Chris.

81 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 8:40 pm

laughing, all.

I think maybe it's Droopy Dog, yes.

It's a certain jowly, hangdog, droopy eye look that suddenly made me think of a cartoon dog. I think it's Droopy.

(And as to [69], I think it's perfectly appropriate for the context.)

82 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2015 8:40 pm

Where does it say that we can never have a laugher?

83 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:41 pm

[55] Grandy? yeah, i've been a fan for ages. he used to write a blog at the 4-letter network. is he getting regular press in NY?

84 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:42 pm

i like chris young. always have...

85 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:43 pm

ooh, that was *really* low. we lucked out on that call...

86 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 8:43 pm

[83] Wasn't he just the bee's knees?

I haven't noticed any press he's been getting if he has.

87 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:45 pm

pasta diving didi.

crap.

88 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 8:45 pm

9-1 becoming a save situation?
Grrrrr.

89 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 8:45 pm

I've grown tired of the David Carpenter experiment

90 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:46 pm

i'm in Atlanta and recently purchased tickets to see the Yanks against the Braves this August. got tix for the first game, Friday night. i plan on going again Sat. night too.

we might be in NY end of June / beg. of July. not sure if the Yanks will be in town. if so, i'll try to make it to the Stadium.

91 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:46 pm

shawn kelley > david carepenter

92 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 8:46 pm

[89] see [76].

(Little did I know this half inning was going to take an epoch.)

93 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 8:47 pm

Nice catch, Chris Young.

94 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 8:47 pm

Chris Young, star of the game.

95 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:48 pm

[81] he has been looking dog-like lately!

96 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 8:48 pm

Phew!

97 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 8:48 pm

I nominate Chris Young to pitch the ninth.

98 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:49 pm

[76] more like the Carpenter Error

99 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 8:49 pm

[90} Ohhhhh, ohhhhh, ohhhh ohhh! Ohhhhh, ohhhh ohhhh ohhhh!

(Name that tune.)

100 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 11, 2015 8:49 pm

[97] Seconded.

Ah. So, FUCK YOU, is the correct response to HBP.

107 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 8:52 pm

Well that's better

Holy god.

Beyond words.

Them lip lovin' fuzzy caterpillars are working their magic.

112 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:55 pm

113 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 11, 2015 8:56 pm

thelarmis, Van Halen just came on the radio here at ACME,INC Tokyo offices. You would approve?

[99] tomahawk chop. stolen from the florida state semen holes.

115 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:57 pm

[113] yes, i would. i even approve of the Van Hagar era!

accidentally saw Night Ranger on Saturday! : )

116 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 8:58 pm

Wow, Didi really has great range.

117 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 8:58 pm

118 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 11, 2015 8:58 pm

[115] Sure..'accidentally'.. :)

I can't believe I'm starting to really like this team..winning is fun!

119 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 9:00 pm

[112] More like no one was paying attention.
Defensive indifference? That should be a good morning debate.

120 rbj   ~  May 11, 2015 9:01 pm

Three down! Night all.

121 Mattpat11   ~  May 11, 2015 9:01 pm

122 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2015 9:01 pm

And THAT was the highlight of the night

123 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 9:01 pm

Uh.
Didi was just born to play in this place.
He does have amazing range, though.

124 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 9:02 pm

I'm very pleased that Erasmo Ramirez gets two ER tacked on to his pathetic record. And do you know why?
Because you beaned someone, deliberately, because you're an asshole. That's why. Think about that as you sink back into your quagmire of perfectly deserved obscurity.

125 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 9:02 pm

i'm gonna have to pull the game up on roku and watch some highlights.

126 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 9:03 pm

wait, how'd it end? my computer blacked out! argh.

127 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 9:03 pm

[119] can we reschedule for mid-afternoon?! ; )

128 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2015 9:04 pm

ah, i read about the catwalk (and figured it had something to do with that). i'll try to watch later...

129 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2015 9:05 pm

[128] Yeah, this year the ball is in play after it hits a catwalk. Didi caught it.
