If you're a chef and you serve me a burger that's taller than my mouth can open to accommodate, you aren't feeding me. You're indulging your artistic vanity.

Looking at you, Minetta Tavern. Looking at you, Telepan. Christ. Get over yourselves.

1) Ha! I'm with you on this. Although I have to say, I had a burger at the Minetta Tavern and it wasn't enormous. It was amazingly expensive--and I'm happy to say I didn't pay for it--but it wasn't too big. And it was really damn good.

From the slideshow linked to that piece, gimme the Joe Jr.'s or the J.G. Mellon's any day, and keep 'em coming. Extra pickles please.

Next peeve: bread ratios. Some of those give you a lot of brioche to work through on the way home.

I've had the J.G. Mellon burger--unpretentious and satisfying.
